TracMap Releases Groundbreaking TML-A Guidance Unit 2021 has been a big year for Agtech company TracMap with the release of their groundbreaking TML-A aviation guidance unit. TracMap isn’t what you’d call a newcomer to the industry – their Flight3 units having long been an integral part of operations for aerial agricultural operators around the globe – but, at the risk of resorting to cliché, the TML-A is a game-changer both for the company and the ag aviation industry. Incorporating satellite and topographic imagery, enhanced safety features, and a slick touch screen interface that can also be operated entirely off the stick, TracMap knew they had succeeded in creating a product that represented a massive leap forward in technology for aerial ag pilots. It quickly became apparent that, in order to succeed, the design process needed to be customer-driven. According to TML-A Technical Product Owner Tim Neumegen “Our pilots had some great ideas for what they wanted to see in their GPS guidance. With our Flight3 units, we had reached the technical limits of what was achievable - now with the TML-A, we have a platform where we can bring those ideas to life. It represents a huge jump in power over our previous platform, which lets us do more in real-time, like warning about wires and showing the whole guidance pattern.” During the development phase, it became clear that the TML-A TracMap had a product that could deliver genuine advances on the currently available systems, was powered by some extraordinarily clever software, yet remained intuitive and straightforward to operate.
operation was vital, as was safety. In the TML-A, one of the most significant enhancements in terms of safety is the ability to mark and identify hazards, and other aircraft using the system will be able to recognize these hazards. Additionally, the TML-A addresses wire strikes, one of the leading causes of accidents in the industry, by having the ability to display the location of wires and warn pilots when they are approaching. Enhanced mapping means more accurate proof of placement for your customers and greater onthe-job efficiency – the ability to overlay satellite or topographic imagery on the display offers another dimension to the pilot’s experience, being able to identify geographic features off the display. Shared pilot profiles mean less time spent dialing in your preferred settings, and the ability to operate the device entirely off the stick means you’re focused on the job at all times. The TML-A is advanced enough to meet the needs of the most demanding pilots but, at the same time, is easily used by both tech-heads and old-school industry veterans. It’s been 15 years since TracMap introduced its first GPS Guidance system in New Zealand – now, in 2021, the future of Agricultural Aviation Guidance is here.
Getting ready for production was nearly a yearlong journey. TracMap went straight to the endusers, pilots in the agricultural aviation industry from the U.S, New Zealand and Australia, to see what would be most valuable to them in their next-generation aviation unit. The simplicity of

It’s that time of year again! I would like to welcome you to the second edition of The Navigator, presented by AgAir Update. The Navigator is an offshoot of what was called the AgAir Update Show Guide. However, The Navigator still follows the basic theme of the Show Guide, just a little updated to reflect current conditions. The purpose of The Navigator is to present a comprehensive printed and digital platform for AgAir Update advertisers and readers for the upcoming NAAA Ag Expo to be held in Savannah, Georgia December 5-9. The digital space, posted on agairupdate.com, includes more in-depth articles, photos and videos for each advertiser appearing on the printed pages of The Navigator. This two-step approach is especially important during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. This brings The Navigator to the forefront of information for existing and emerging ag-aviation vendors. As in the past, The Navigator will provide readers with information that will undoubtedly make ag-flying safer and more profitable. It also will help with business decisions to be made at the Ag Aviation Expo. Because COVID-19 has affected all businesses in one way or another, it becomes more critical than ever for suppliers to the ag-aviation industry to continue to send their message advising

Air Tractor: “We’re rocketing ahead.” In 2021, Air Tractor aircraft production surged past 4,000.
On track to build 165+ aircraft in 2021, Air Tractor is ready for an even stronger 2022. Air Tractor is set to produce more than 165 aircraft in 2021 — a 40 percent increase from 2020. This is a remarkable accomplishment in a year in which the production sector at large was plagued by supply chain challenges and Covidrelated production delays. “Even in a very challenging environment with Covid-19 and serious worldwide supply chain problems, we’ve met the challenge and continue to meet it and do more as shown by our 40 percent increase in airplane production during 2021,” said Air Tractor President Jim Hirsch. “Nobody else in aviation has done that in the past year. No U.S. airplane manufacturer has increased production over the previous year,” Hirsch added. “We’re fortunate to be in a market that has such a high demand and has opportunities.” Hirsch explained that Air Tractor accomplished the production increase on top of additional, independent projects. “Even though we’ve got a demand signal for the 802U, and we’re in the middle of planning to build some airplanes for the military market, what we’ve really done is focus on ag and firefighting—our core business—and made sure we’ve done everything we can to meet that demand first,” he said. With aerial application still being the most efficient way to protect crops, and Air Tractor’s firefighting series of aircraft continuously proving their effectiveness in fire prevention and initial attack firefighting scenarios, the demand for purpose-built airplanes to get the job done is growing worldwide. “The demand is unbelievable for next year,” Hirsch said. “Air Tractor dealers have sold everything we could build this 6 | agairupdate.com
year. And if the global supply chain holds up, we’ve got a robust 2022 build schedule.” Meanwhile, the company continues making their aircraft even more productive and dependable. For the past several years, Air Tractor has put strong focus on making the best possible use of its resources in order to improve competitiveness. The goals are to eliminate waste and find new manufacturing efficiencies, improving processes and techniques for each step involved in building airplanes. “Production, engineering, quality, and computer systems departments are collaborating to make sure we are delivering the best quality product efficiently. All of us are working on this to ensure that we stay on solid ground during these disruptive, changing times,” says Hirsch. The effort involves continuous improvement, striving for simplicity, eliminating time-wasting activities, and increasing the company’s manufacturing flexibility to streamline the flow of raw materials and subassemblies through the factory. “By more effectively utilizing our available resources, we will be able to increase our production and control the cost of production while building better quality products.” Hirsch says. Air Tractor is stronger than ever, Hirsch underscored as the company celebrated delivering its 4,000th aircraft this year, along with several other milestones, including well over 100 502XP aircraft built, and the delivery of the 900th AT-802 in the ag and firefighting series. Air Tractor currently has about 330 employees to meet customer demands for more aircraft. “We’ve gone a long way through this Covid storm, and the company still is strong and viable — perhaps more so than ever. We’re going into 2022 strong, healthy, and we’re more than just forging ahead. We’re rocketing ahead,” Hirsch said.

Join NAAA at the 2021 Ag Aviation Expo in Savannah for a Centennial Celebration! On behalf of the National Agricultural Aviation Association, we would like to invite all AgAir Update readers to the 2021 Ag Aviation Expo in historic Savannah. This year’s show takes on extra meaning because it coincides with the aerial application industry’s 100th anniversary!
the 2021 Ag Aviation Expo is the place for you! Make the most of the enriching education sessions, valuable networking opportunities and a world-class trade show that will showcase striking stateof-the-art and antique ag aircraft— including the Snow Aeronautical S2A, Ag-Cat Serial No. 1 and a Stearman.
In addition to our great speakers and programming, world-class NAAA Trade Show and enjoyable atmosphere, we are celebrating 100 years of aiding farmers in producing a safe, affordable and abundant supply of food, fiber and bioenergy, as well as protecting forestry and controlling health-threatening pests across our great nation.
You can expect to experience the same robust, informative and interactive atmosphere as always at the 2021 Ag Aviation Expo, but with additional safeguards established for the health and wellness of our attendees, exhibitors and staff.
This is the sixth time since 2010 the Hostess City of the South has hosted the world’s largest agricultural aviation expo. The reason is simple: They treat us right, and our attendees love it here. The citizens of Savannah bent over backward to make NAAA attendees and exhibitors feel safe and welcome us last year at our 2020 convention, and you can expect no less at this year’s show. We can’t wait to enjoy the city’s great restaurants, bars and amazing Southern hospitality. We have sessions for new pilots, experienced pilots, spouses and support staff. If you are looking to grow your business, find a job or sell a product or service in the aerial application industry, 8 | agairupdate.com
The festivities begin at the Kickoff Breakfast Monday morning, where you’ll hear from 19-time Emmy winner John Stossel, hailed by The Dallas Morning News as “the most consistently thought-provoking TV reporter of our time.” Stossel began his career as a consumer reporter calling for government regulation. But when he saw that regulations could cause new problems, he started reporting on the benefits that free markets create. After 28 years on ABC’s 20/20, Stossel joined Fox Business Network to host his own show. In 2017, he gave that up to start Stossel TV, which makes internet videos that educate young people about the benefits of limited government. This event is expected to sell out. Pre-register ahead of time to avoid missing out!
Several educational sessions are on tap throughout the week, including the Aerial Application Technology Research Session and programming focused on FAA matters and lowlevel obstacles, insurance, precision agriculture, crop protection products, engine performance and maintenance, helicopters, airframe and company sessions. Some states offer CEUs for education sessions. Visit AgAviation. org/ceu for a full list of CEU opportunities at the expo. NAAA’s General Session on Tuesday, Dec. 7, will feature history and content centered around the last 100 years of the aerial application industry. We’ll debut the new documentary “Aerial Applicators’ Growing Role: 100 Years of Agricultural Aviation,” followed by a panel looking back at the industry’s origins and advancements over the past 100 years. Steve Powell of Solum Consulting will moderate the session. Invited panelists include Dennie Stokes, of Mid-Continent Aircraft Corp. and Air Aids Inc./Stokes Flying Service in Earle, Arkansas; AgAir Update’s very own Bill Lavender; Jim Hirsch, Air Tractor’s president; Terry Humphrey of Thrush, and Grant Lane of Lane Aviation—all ag aviation veterans and leaders. For the final portion of the General Session, we’ll hear from experts who will forecast what’s on the horizon between now and the industry’s

bicentennial in 2021. Speakers include Air Tractor’s Jim Hirsch, Mark McDonald, president and CEO of Thrush Aircraft, and Jay Vroom, chief information officer for his family business, Vroom•Leigh•Agriculture LLC, and a strategic advisor for D.C. Legislative and Regulatory Services. Vroom retired from CropLife America in 2018 after 30 years as the organization’s president and CEO. Also speaking is Ofir Schlam, founder and president of Taranis, the cutting-edge company developing groundbreaking aerial imaging and see-and-spray technology. This year’s career-development programs are frontloaded to give new and low-time ag pilots increased opportunities to interact with experienced operators and pilots after the sessions. The Compaass Rose Session is being offered Sunday, Dec. 5, and NAAREF’s “Ask the Expert” Speed Mentoring Session will take place Monday, Dec. 6. Compaass Rose is an information-sharing session geared toward low-time and prospective ag pilots. It is led by the PAASS presenters, our roving safety instructors. Speed Mentoring is a fast-paced orientation session for new and prospective ag pilots where experienced industry experts meet with small groups of attendees in short mentoring rounds to answer questions in a more personal setting. The experts may represent operators, pilots and ag insurance representatives. The Athena presenters and PAASS presenters are coming together for the NAAREF Relationship Drift Session, which will look at how personal relationships affect pilot decisionmaking and safety. Men and women should attend this session together, including couples and office crew. Relationship Drift is similar in format to the popular Compaass Rose program, but instead of facilitating better
relations between inexperienced pilots and more experienced operators, the new session is designed to foster ties between operators/pilots and their spouses or significant others and office crew. The NAAREF Safety Session on Thursday, Dec. 9, will feature a brand-new video on how to “turn smart,” educating aerial applicators on how to make safe, coordinated turns while conducting aerial applications. The session will be valuable to both inexperienced and experienced pilots. For specific solutions for your business, look no further than the NAAA Trade Show Dec. 7–8. The world’s largest agricultural aviation trade show will feature nearly 140 exhibitors, showcasing crop protection products, parts and supplies, aircraft and engine manufacturers, maintenance, insurance services, GPS units and more. View Air Tractor and Thrush airplanes, helicopters and vintage ag aircraft, including Ag-Cat #1, a Cub, Stearman and Grumman Ag-Cat.
nine distinguished awardees for their impressive contributions to the industry.
New Non-Member Registration Fees Please be aware that registration fees for non-members to attend the Ag Aviation Expo have increased. NAAA leadership established a policy that raises the non-member attendee rates for the Ag Aviation Expo. The non-member registration fee is $1,005 for pre-registration by Nov. 5 and $1,080 for regular registration beginning Nov. 6. To avoid the higher attendee fee, NAAA recommends NAAA membership to attend the show and save money. If you plan to attend this year’s Ag Aviation Expo, please join NAAA in advance to obtain the cheaper convention registration rate (membership runs Jan. 1–Dec. 31; membership is not pro-rated). Register for the 2021 Ag Aviation Expo using the registration form found in the AAU Navigator or go to AgAviation.org/ convention. Register by Nov. 5 for the prices listed on the registration form.
Don’t miss the fun of the Live Auction, which also happens to be our biggest fundraiser. Along with a new PT6A34AG engine from Pratt & Whitney Canada, a two-seat, open-cockpit Grumman Ag-Cat G-164 A plane and many other great items are up for bid. Visit AgAviation.org/auctions for a list of all the auction items. The action gets underway Dec. 7 at 5:30 p.m. on the trade show floor.
Finally, if you plan to come in early, we encourage you to swing by Perry, Georgia, on Dec. 3 for AgAir Update’s Open House and Hangar Party. We appreciate Bill and Graham’s willingness to roll out the welcome mat for NAAA and our guests. Their pre-convention soirée epitomizes the Southern hospitality that will be on display all week long in Savannah. If you make it to Perry, don’t forget to gobble up a couple of handfuls of boiled peanuts while you’re there.
Throughout the week, there will be no shortage of opportunities to network and make new acquaintances. From Monday’s Welcome Reception to Thursday’s Farewell Reception, you’ll be able to attend a different reception nearly every night. Finally, we encourage you to make plans to attend the Excellence in Ag Aviation Banquet Dec. 9, where we will honor
That’s just a small taste of what you will find at the 2021 Ag Aviation Expo. There is much more information within these pages and on NAAA’s website at AgAviation.org/convention. Please join us for an epic centennial celebration at what promises to be an unforgettable week!

AERIAL APPLICATORS ARE ESSENTIAL TO AGRICULTURE NAAA IS ESSENTIAL TO THE INDUSTRY
In Times of Crisis, You Need NAAA in Your Corner. When a crisis strikes, the National Agricultural Aviation Association rises to meet it head-on. When other industries were shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic, NAAA made sure the aerial application industry was deemed an “essential” business, clearing the way for you to conduct your needed and necessary services without delay. Not only did NAAA make sure that crop input services like the ones aerial applicators provide were listed as essential, your national association successfully petitioned to extend expiration dates for flight medical, commercial pesticide applicator, and numerous other needed licenses to conduct aerial application services so the industry could keep running when government agency offices were shuttered. What is AgPilotX? AgPilotX is a GPS/GNSS Guidance System that was designed by Insero with two goals: 1) simple installation 2) ease of use. With only 3 components – Lightbar, Hub and iPad, it can be installed in a few hours.
A few facts about AgPilotX: • Only 3 components • GPS/GNSS Antenna integrated into the Lightbar • Wireless – uses both Bluetooth 5.0 and Wi-Fi technology • Cables can be cut for custom fit – no excess/looped wiring • GNSS receiver uses GLONASS which doubles the number of satellites and reduces/ eliminates Lightbar jumping • Features integrated background imagery of the entire planet • Total system weight is under 12 lbs (including cables) • Lightweight Helicopter Lightbar reduces system weight to under 8 lbs • Email logs directly from the aircraft • All software updates done over the air • Entire system driven by any Apple device – iPad or iPhone – free App available on the Apple App store • To add Flow Control to AgPilotX, simply plug any meter and valve directly into the Hub.
AgPilotX’s Calling Card – Ease of Use One of the most appealing features of AgPilotX is the ease at which a pilot can learn to use it. Running as an Apple App makes it extremely user friendly. And with all the features accessible with simple screen taps, it can be learned in a matter of minutes. Most pilots, young and old, say they learned to use the system on the way to the field. And with 14 | agairupdate.com
background imagery a standard part of the system, the situational awareness that the AgPilotX app offers makes the guidance system second to none. Insero introduced the AgPilotX Guidance System in the 2018 season. There are now over 600 systems in the field. 2022 will be season number 5 for the product, which has been steadily adding features over the years.
AgPilotX in 2021 and What’s Coming for 2022? In 2021, Insero introduced its cloud API, allowing the AgPilotX to communicate directly with partners such as AgSync (from Raven). As a result, work orders can be created in AgSync and sent directly to the AgPilotX on-the-fly. In turn, the logs are automatically sent back to AgSync instantaneously upon completion of the Job. This feature allows the office and the pilot to save time by automatically moving data back and forth without using external devices (such as USB sticks) or using confusing processes that require additional equipment (like USB modems). And because the Apple device is already connected to the cloud, there are no complicated setup processes – just a simple login – to get connected and automatically move work orders and jobs back and forth. Insero also introduced Real-time tracking in 2021. All data can now be passed to the cloud as the aircraft is flying with a simple onetime login on the AgPilotX app. The office and ground crew can know the whereabouts of any aircraft by simply logging into Insero’s site at www. AgHippo.com. Insero will be displaying its variable rate capability for both the Air Repair Dry Gate and the Reabe Gate at the show in Savannah, GA in Dec 2021. There will also be additional helicopter
features for its specialized helicopter app, HeliX, which was created to serve the growing helicopter market. In 2022, AgPilotX will be working closely with third party groups such as Reabe Air and ChemMan. The Reabe Gate now interfaces with AgPilotX and Reabe Air continues to work towards unique solutions for the ag market. ChemMan will be adding their API next year and interfacing directly with the AgPilotX for instant and automatic data exchange of work orders and logs.
AgPilotX Technical Support Insero continues to focus on great technical support as a key to its success in the aerial application business. Insero has some of the most experienced individuals in the business with regard to GPS and Guidance Systems. The AgPilotX hotline at 602-610-1299 has allowed pilots to get quick answers to questions, and has allowed Insero’s customers to address their concerns directly with Insero employees. With the hotline, all calls are tracked and followed up on. Existing and potential customers should add this number to their phone, and rely on Insero to answer questions about AgPilotX or any GPS and guidance systems in general. AgPilotX will be at Booth 727 at the upcoming 2021 NAAA Convention in Savannah, GA. Insero has a product session at the show so check your guide and plan to attend. Insero will continue to develop AgPilotX with customer input as the driving force for the product’s evolution. Share your thoughts and ideas about AgPilotX with Insero at the booth or online at www.agpilotx.com. Anyone interested in onsite demos or webinars/tutorials on the software, contact the hotline listed above.

Simplicity at its Best Our customers have discovered the real DynaNav Secret: Our products have advanced technology that is simple to operate, yet having highly productive solutions for the Aerial Applicator. “Simple by Design – Flexible in Application” – this corporate statement sets the path for Dynanav systems unique capabilities, making operations for the pilots simple, easy and reliable. Simplicity = Productivity. Starting with the basic design of the Vektor MAX that has only 2 components: the HMI – Touchscreen computer with built in Flow Control Electronics, WiFi & Skynet communications, etc., and the field proven robust Vektor Lightbar. This design makes for an extremely easy installation, and for flow control you only need to add the Flow Valve and Flow Meter. Next, the DynaFlight 3 system drives DynaNav’s unique DynaViz display that sits up on the dash, in the field of view of the outside the cockpit. With its “Roadway” guidance display, the pilot intuitively follows the “Roadway” for an accurate and even application of his products. There are many advantages to the DynaViz display, such as; 1/ All controls for the input of his jobs are done through the TopHat and Enter buttons on his pilot control grip or cyclic/collective in a helicopter. 2/ in stand alone mode, the DynaViz display has a live moving map for spraying Headlands, and curved lines. 3/ The “Roadway” gives true “Free Form” navigation along with an as applied Score Bar so the pilot can accomplish any pattern or non-pattern as the pilot needs to complete his application, without touching any button. Just as important as GPS Systems that have superior guidance solutions, DynaNav also has a suite of products and technology for Flow Control of both Liquids and Dry Materials. As above, the Vektor MAX includes the Flow Control electronics to drive Flow Valves, Electric and Hydraulic Driven Pumps. Then there are DynaNav’s DynaFlow flow control systems. For the DynaFlight 3 system, we add the DynaFlow ECU (Electronic Control Unit) to control Electric Valves, Electric and Hydraulic Driven Pumps. Further to this, our DynaFlow systems include a Boom Pressure sensor so we can digitally 18 | agairupdate.com
display the Boom pressure, as well as use the digital Boom Pressure to activate GPS Marking output, just simply set the pressure you want the GPS to start and stop marking. Using the DynaFlow ECU, we also manufacture standalone Flow Control Systems with integrated GPS receiver. Just as important, these standalone Flow Control Systems can be controlled by any other GPS Manufacturer, as we have an open architecture Communications Protocol they can use. The original system is the DynaFlow Flow Control has a compact HMI-Touchscreen for full pilot interface. This system also has many options of Flow Valves and Flow Meters to suit the need of any aircraft or helicopter. It also includes the digital Boom Pressure Sensor, including a relay switch output for marking of spray on any GPS system. More recently, DynaNav has released the DynaFlow 2 system that also controls Hydraulic and Electric Motor driven Pumpers. It has a little larger HMI- Touchscreen for more information and control inputs for its wide range of controls. Go to www.dynanav.com to learn about our products as well as SHOP online.

Over 75 Years of Flying Excellence Lane Aviation, Inc. is excited to be celebrating its 76th year in business. Our company prides itself on maintaining ethical business practices that translate into integrity for every facet of Lane Aviation. We believe this honesty is what has gained the trust of so many valued customers and allowed us to become the leading Air Tractor distributor for sales, service and support. Without you, the customers, we would not be here today. For that, we want to say “Thank you” to everyone here! Lane Aviation’s association with agricultural aircraft sales began with George Lane and Leland Snow in College Station, Texas in 1957; Leland was demonstrating the S-2A. George gave Leland a deposit on one of the first five built! Shortly thereafter, Lane Aviation became a dealer for Snow Aircraft. Therefore, when Leland Snow developed Air Tractor, Lane Aviation’s business relationship with Snow was already well established. In 1974, Lane Aviation was selected as the first Air Tractor dealer and has since sold more than anyone else in the world. Lane Aviation has always been a family-run company. George’s sons are both still actively involved in the company. Grant Lane serves as president of Lane Aviation and Mark Lane as a pilot, both repositioning aircraft and as a relief pilot during the season for nearby operators. Grant’s son and Vice President, Logan Lane, represents the third generation in this family business. In 2013, Logan graduated from Texas A&M University and began learning the ropes at Lane Aviation. In addition to being an Instrument and Multi-engine, Commercially-rated pilot, with experience ranging from Air Tractors to cabin-class aircraft, Logan manages much of the daily operations at the airport. While Logan’s fresh perspective lends itself to innovation, he is also continuously learning from Grant’s life-long experience in the agricultural aviation business. In particular, Grant’s highly personalized customer service has become a cornerstone that customers count on and value. Whether an operator is making a transition to Air Tractors, moving from radials to turbine-powered aircraft, or updating their current fleet, Grant and Logan will be there to offer help and advice along the way. Lane Aviation operates from its airport in Rosenberg, Texas (T54), Lane Air Park. The maintenance facility is capable of handling nearly every type of Air Tractor maintenance. This 22 | agairupdate.com
includes annual and periodic inspections, major airframe repairs and engine exchanges. The ability to perform up to and including hot section inspections, as well as great business relationships with dedicated engine shops, keeps the customer well taken care of. With Air Tractor factory training and multiple FAA-certified A&P and IA mechanics, the highest quality work can always be expected. Also located at Lane Air Park is the fully stocked parts department of Lane Aviation, the largest stock of Air Tractor spares outside of the factory. Not only is it essential to have parts on hand to facilitate repairs made in the maintenance shop, but it’s paramount to have an extensive inventory readily available to ship to our customers. Lane Aviation maintained a Part 137 aerial application operation for 70 years. That taught us how to best respond to ag operators’ needs, it also helped us understand what it means to be AOG. Lane Aviation works diligently to make sure our customers get their required parts as quickly as possible. Whether a customer is two towns over or on another continent, Lane Aviation has the experience and expertise to get them back in the air.

Low Volume Revolutionized Great ~ Flat Fan Spray Tips, Better Yet ~ Rotary Atomizers, Even Better ~ Electrostatic With Flat Fan Spray Tips
For low volume application (1-2 gallons per acre) having the most even coverage of the plant target.
droplets without changing the chemistry of the product being applied.
Take charge with your favorite spray tips, 80and 40-degree flat fans or disc/core with the power of electrostatics. Various independent research studies by USDA ARS Aerial Application Research Center at College Station, Texas demonstrate that electrostatic charged droplets produce positive results. The new nozzle body has excellent insulation qualities and easily replaceable electrodes for the different spray tips. Now at one to five gallons or more per acre you can improve coverage and reduce drift by adding a charge to the droplets in the spray cloud. The smaller the droplet the greater the charge the greater the attraction to the plant canopy.
In order for the droplets to be charged, they have to be released from a neutral body (which is the aircraft). If it was a positive charge only, the whole aircraft would be positively charged so the spray droplets would not be charged by the electrode. By adding the negative charge, the aircraft then becomes neutral. Both positive and negative charged droplets are then attracted to the earth which is a neutral body. The plants are grounded to the earth so they attract the droplets first.
How it works: The aircraft is equipped with two small control boxes drawing less than five amps total. One induces a positive charge on the right side of the aircraft and the other induces a negative charge on the left side with up to 10,000 volts on spray 24 | agairupdate.com
Why positive and negative?
There is also a Coriolis wrap-around effect that places a number of small droplets on, around, and under the leaves. Another benefit is that droplets with the same charge repel each other so there is less coalesce of smaller droplets joining two together to make larger ones in flight and also fewer droplets stacking on top of one another on the leaf surface, greatly improving the area covered.

Our customers and business partners become family and are treated accordingly.
There is always something new at Turbine Conversions, Ltd and 2021 was no different.
2021Agricultural Aviation Industry celebrates 100 years of feeding the world. TCL is proud to have been an active participant along with our Ag business, Hatfield Spraying Service, for over 50 years! TCL founder Bill Hatfield knows the challenges you face and wants to bring you solutions that increase profitability and safety for your business. There is always something new at TCL and 2021 was no different. TCL received STC SA04485CH for a header tank modification to solve problems Thrush aircraft owners were facing. TCL also received its second ANAC approved STC in Brazil for the Hatfield Hydraulic Fire Gate. Our fire gate will be an essential tool in supporting the emerging firefighting program in Brazil. Approved for all models of Air Tractors makes it unique. Our partners Aeroglobo Aeronaves are available in Brazil to provide quality sales, installation, and parts support on TCL’s behalf. Finally, Custom Air’s Air Tractor Tailwheel STC found its new home at TLC. We are currently supporting current owners with parts and service. Application has been made with the FAA so we can begin to build new tailwheels for interested customers. In January TCL traveled to the University of Nebraska Testing Lab to run tests on the Zanoni Atomizer. The results were great. The feedback from customers using the Zanoni atomizers on forestry and mosquito contracts in the US &

Canada has also been positive. TCL will host agronomist Dr. Henrique Campos who will share the benefits of atomizer use on row crop applications. We hope that you will join the educational session on Wednesday 8th and see how it could benefit your operation. We are proud to offer a worldwide network of Single Point Fueling Systems dealers. This network has been instrumental in making our SPF the #1 fueling system. TCL wants to welcome two new dealers; Beckman Aircraft Maintenance in Nebraska and Seal Aviation in the Philippines. Drew Beckman offers highquality installations and is right in heart of the US ready to serve and our newest international dealer, SEAL Aviation is eager to serve the Philippine market and is representing our entire line of STCs. TCL continues to find ways to support our turbine conversion customers. Owners of TCL’s Walter/GE Ag/Fat Cat STC can now convert to Pratt & Whitney PT6A-34AG or -42AG with our approved ring modification. Owners of our other STC conversions can take advantage of our Field Approval Program for a transition from GE to P&WC power. We never stop thinking about our customers and what we can do to benefit them and their businesses! With TCL’s current portfolio offering 40+ STCs for the agricultural aviation market and the full line of Zanoni Equipment, we know we have something that can propel your business forward. Stor-Loc Modular Drawer System Built to Last STOR-LOC, Originally designed in 1982, the initial design was a composite of all the best features available in the market at that time. They built their product to last! Today, Stor-Loc is the only manufacturer that adheres to its original design characteristics such as mig-welded corners and full-with, 11 gauge fork channels. Stor-Loc is one of a few companies that do not use nylon rollers in their support system, rather steel ball bearings and heattreated steel rollers that provide consistent, lifetime drawer performance. Our product line consists of workstations, cabinets, and complete systems for keeping your tools organized. You can find Stor-Loc at dozens of trade shows all over the U.S. and Canada. Along with their display of the most popular drawers, cabinets and workstations, they also feature new products.

Innovation at Your Fingertips Spidertracks and their latest Virtual FDR™ release, ‘Insights,’ enables the visibility of key flight information that can be used for proactive safety improvements in operations, and delivers tangible value for fixed and rotarywing aviators around the world. Insights is made possible through Spidertracks’ latest innovative hardware, the Spider X. The device collects critical data such as roll, pitch, yaw, speed and altitude, and delivers this wirelessly to the Spidertracks platform. Virtual FDR™ Insights feeds both operational and safety insights into an operator’s FOQA program, giving teams the ability to not only see where their aircraft are flying — but more importantly — know how they’re flying. With Insights, operators can define and set specific parameters about an aircraft that they want to measure, such as excessive roll, a high rate of descent, maximum altitude, and/or a heading change, to name a few. Insights also come with powerful reporting tools, so teams can analyze, measure, and interpret information, including the
location of safety events, percentage of flights with safety events, or trends of safety events by type of event. “We’ve got a key position in the market where we’re monitoring thousands and thousands of aircraft performing critical missions,” said Steve Whitaker, Spidertracks Chief Operating Officer. “We looked at how we can build on what we’ve got to help provide our customers with a proactive safety system to enable a FOQA/FDM program.” Spidertracks is leveraging more than 14 years of expertise to offer aircraft owners and operators an easy entry into FDM. They are helping operators improve the safety of their operations in nearly every sector, from aerial firefighting and agriculture to wildlife rescue and flight schools. Their goal is to make it simple for the operator, both from an install perspective and getting immediate value from the data, resulting in increased safety, and operational efficiencies.
Equip your team, equip your aircraft, and get home safely every day. Enjoy the benefits of real-time flight tracking, SOS alerts, and live weather information. Be safer tomorrow than you were today with Spidertracks.

Most of us know how expensive the PT6A engines can be when it comes to maintenance, overhauls, etc; especially the older or higher-time engines that are used on aircraft that no longer have an appraisal value to justify the expense of the required overhaul at 3600 hours (or 4100 hours on some engines). Many of these engines are still in great condition, making it even harder to justify the expense of an overhaul. Since 1993, MORE Company, Inc. has more than 2500 engines using the FAA-approved MORE Supplemental Type Certificates (STCs) in the US and over 50 foreign countries. Commonly known as the “MORE Program”, the MORE Instructions For Continued Airworthiness are a set of directions for maintaining the engine by using an aggressive inspection system; periodic borescope 4/10/13 12:21 PM 4/10/13 12:21 PM of the hot section, inspection of the compressor inspection and exhaust duct areas, Power Plant-Adjustment Test, spectrometric oil and filter debris analysis, engine vibrational analysis and preventative maintenance. The purpose of this system is to find problems in their early stages and then having found those problems to correct them, promptly. 4/10/13 12:21 PM For all of you that know MORE, thank you for your recognition, support and continued efforts in keeping the PT6A engines alive!

Soaring Installations of the LoadMaster 4-Blade Propeller Since the release of the LoadMaster propeller in 2015, more than 110 have been installed.
Aero Innovations is soaring with the installations of its LoadMaster 4-blade propeller. Since the release of the LoadMaster propeller in 2015, more than 110 have been installed. The customer feedback has been impressive. The propeller provides an additional increase of up to 233.6 equivalent shaft horsepower, an increase in thrust, shorter takeoff distance, and increased climb rate. “After working with PT6 engines for more than five decades, I thought there had to be a way to carry heavier loads but still have good turn capabilities. I went to work designing a solution and we now have a highly efficient prop with many satisfied customers,” Aero Innovations Founder and Innovator Jim Mills said.
RECORD INTAKE OWNERS
Our 4-blade LoadMaster propellers are proudly flying in New Zealand, South Africa, Australia, and Guatemala. However, the majority are flying in the United States. The LoadMaster is also approved in Canada and Brazil. Additionally, Aero Innovations has an STC for the Record Intake for Thrush PT6A installation. Furthermore, Aero Innovations has developed a filter system that makes changing and cleaning the filter as easy as changing a furnace filter at home. Turbines Inc. - Flexibility in Products, Repairs and Pricing Turbines Inc is the independent PT6A overhaul/repair shop in business since 1981. The FAA applies the same rigorous requirements to independent shops, like Turbines Inc., that they do to Pratt & Whitney “approved” shops. In fact, independent shops, like Turbines Inc., work from the same required manuals that “approved” Pratt & Whitney overhaul/repair shops do. Independent overhaul/repair shops have more flexibility in products, repairs and pricing. Our customers get the same quality overhaul from our independent shop as you would from an “approved” Pratt & Whitney shop, for significantly less money. Products – Independent shops can use PMA parts (Parts Manufacturer Approval) A PMA part is a replacement part that has undergone an extensive review process and received approval from the FAA. Often times the FAA subjects these parts to even more rigorous scrutiny than the OEM parts. PMA parts offer significant cost savings vs. OEM products. Of course, the customer will be consulted as to their preference to use OEM or PMA parts. Pricing – Independent shops have greater flexibility in pricing. The same overhauled parts that are used by a Pratt & Whitney shop and an independent shop normally are priced very differently. Pratt & Whitney approved shop usually charges list less a percentage. We normally charge cost plus. This can be a large difference in pricing for the same part resulting in savings from the independent shop. Service Bulletins can selectively be incorporated by an independent shop versus mandated installation in a Pratt & Whitney shop. Thrush Grows Stronger
Looking into 2022, we’re excited about what the new year will bring.
2021 was a tough year. Despite the chaos, we grew stronger as a business and as a team. The strategy we launched two years ago hasn’t changed. Bring stability to the company and the market. Significantly improve both products and services to give customers what they want. Continue improving safety performance in products, training, and in the industry in general. Work with our dealers to provide exceptional service. Focus on our core product lines and don’t get distracted. COVID-19 created all sorts of challenges for Thrush, its customers, and its supply chain. We lost an employee and several of our team’s family members to COVID. The pandemic impacted some of our aircraft deliveries and our product development programs. Supply chain disruptions were common, as were inflationary pressures. Hiring personnel was more difficult than at any time in recent memory, but we’re grateful for the way our employees, dealers, and suppliers all pulled together to overcome the difficult circumstances.
50 | agairupdate.com
Looking into 2022, we’re excited about what the new year will bring. We expect our customers will be just as excited with our new products and service offerings. The 510-P2 and 510P2+ will bring a new level of performance to the 500-gallon market. 510G owners will have options they didn’t have in the past. Tennessee Aircraft Co., Inc. We process all the PT6A simplex fuel nozzles and TPE3311 through -12 fuel nozzles to the overhaul standard at competitive prices to shops that work the nozzles to just the maintenance manual standards. For example on competitive prices, the overhaul of a set of PT6A Simplex Nozzles is a true flat rate price on “as removed” nozzles, which includes tip replacements. Now, if you send in the shields, the replacement would be additional along with gaskets and o-rings. We feel the overhaul standard gives you the smallest fuel droplets you can attain versus working a nozzle to the lesser maintenance manual standards, which leave minor streaking and voids in the spray pattern. What you want is the most complete burn of the fuel droplets prior to entering the turbine section, which actually produces the least amount of sooting and carbon. It is this Carbon traveling through the turbine section at near the speed of sound that erodes the stators and wheels, which are the big ticket items in the turbine engine maintenance.

Speaker: Jim Hirsch 1:15 - 2:45 p.m. NAAREF Safety Session The 2021 NAAREF Safety Session will feature a brand-new video on how to turn smart, educating aerial applicators how to make safe, coordinated turns while conducting aerial applications. The video includes a segment featuring former NASA Astronaut Mike Mullane talking about normalization of deviance and how it can lead an ag pilot to begin and then continue to make unsafe turns. Those of you who attended the 2016 Ag Aviation Expo in Long Beach, California will remember Mike as the kickoff breakfast speaker. The new video also includes a discussion between Mike Rhodes, chief pilot at Air Tractor, and Steve Gustafson a veteran ag pilot from Tallulah Louisiana. The two pilots talk about how to make safe ag turns and the dangers of turning and flying aggressively. To help visualize the various topics Mike and Steve cover, there is in-air footage of Steve in his T-6 demonstrating improper turns and what happens to the aircraft. The video will be followed by a discussion among members of the audience and PAASS presenters about the material presented. Don’t miss the 2021 NAAREF safety session – it’s a great opportunity to improve your ag turning skills and fly safe. Sponsored by AssuredPartners Aerospace 3 - 4:30 p.m. Perfect Flight App Session

Live and Silent Auctions The Live Auction at the NAAA Ag Aviation Expo continues to be one of the most popular and successful fundraisers for the Association. When it comes to high-stakes entertainment, the intrigue, drama and excitement of NAAA’s Live Auction is hard to beat, which is why it has become one of the signature events at each convention. The Live Auction on “Convention Tuesday” is very important to NAAA from a fundraising standpoint, so enjoy the reception food and beverages and bring your checkbooks. NAAA also holds a Silent Auction each year. Bidding opens on Tuesday and closes on Wednesday afternoon. The Live Auction continues to be one of the most popular and financially successful fundraisers for the Association. But NAAA could not accomplish this without the support of our many friends and allies. We are grateful to our Allied Industry, State Associations and aerial applicator supporters. All auction donations, big or small, are greatly appreciated, and NAAA recognizes all donations in Association publications and on the NAAA website. The earlier you come forward, the more exposure you’ll get.

Perfect Flight Focuses On Safety And Sustainability - Each Drop Counts Perfect Flight was born to bring aerial application traceability and management to the next level by breathing agriculture, sustainability, environment, safety and technology. We are the world’s first and most complete aerial spray management and traceability platform. The objective of the Perfect Flight App system is to generate simultaneous spray analysis reports through the LOG files of the aircraft DGPS devices. The use of crop protection products, despite being indispensable for the global production of food on a large scale, is often questioned if not applied correctly. It is useless to have the correct product if the applications are not well done. It is necessary to respect the following: • Reliable Product • Correct Application • Timeliness of Application Perfect Flight comes to the market with cloud technology to alleviate several problems related to aerial applications such as: • Lack of visibility of the application. • Poor route planning (excessive fuel costs). • Lack of management of unapplied areas (Infestation gateway for pests and diseases, in addition to decreased productivity) • The occurrence and control of off-target applications (drift, waste, contamination). • Overlapping applications (Obsolescence of molecules). • Lack of visibility of restricted areas (Beehives, animal 66 | agairupdate.com
breeding, permanent preservation area, etc.). • Lack of weather data and information on the best time for the application. The Perfect Flight app is the world’s most comprehensive aerial spray management system. The app is compatible with all DGPS on the market (GPS onboard the plane). Being a single management platform, Perfect Flight centralizes the information of the operation in a single and robust database. It allows the farmer to make a bold decision from what was planned to what was done. Knowing where, when, and how the application was made is extremely important for the producer, and with the Perfect Flight application that becomes easier, sharper and more assertive. Today, the company operates with the SAAS model. Whether producer or operator, the customer subscribes to the app for a usage license, paid monthly, and may be charged per aircraft used or per acre processed. The Perfect Flight app allows for increased productivity by analyzing success rates, uniformity, failures, and losses within each application performed on crops and improving sustainable control through the proper planning of each flight and application window performed. Since the company was founded, it has already supported the industry, working on 42 millions+ acres at this writing. The company has offices in the U.S. and Brazil, the two countries with the largest ag aviation fleet in the world.

The All-New Satloc Products The next generation is here. Uncompromised quality. Withstands more rugged conditions. Advanced GPS and flow control technologies. Say hello to the future.
IntelliFlow 3™ Satloc engineers spent more than two years in research and development to improve the IntelliFlow 2™. Next, the team created countless prototypes to meet customers’ requests to make the IntelliFlow 3™ more rugged, easier and cleaner to install and reduce the footprint. Then, experienced pilots tested the IntelliFlow 3™ in flight. With the IntllieFlow 3™ (IF3) control system onboard, users are capable of 1) meeting and surpassing farmers’ needs and 2) increasing the profit per acre for the precision applicator and farmer.
L8 Take one look at the L8, and you’ll see the classic design with a few updates to make it more aerodynamic. Dig a little deeper, and you’ll see why it’s another milestone in the Satloc legacy.
Next-generation differences include: L8 uses new LED lights to indicate height above canopy correction from AgLaser input with the Satloc Falcon™ GPS, allowing the pilot the ability to easily meet elevation requirements instantaneously In conjunction with the new Satloc Falcon™, the L8 communication is smarter and 2x faster, the pilot’s response time to ensure better precision application Communicating with the Satloc Falcon™ GPS, the L8 visually alerts pilots of obstacles (planes, towers, powerlines, etc.) as indicated through ADSB and obstacle files, raising the safety bar for ag pilots
Satloc Falcon™ GPS Guidance System Similar to its namesake, the Satloc Falcon™ brings many benefits to the applicator and grower. Falcon’s vision is unparalleled by its competitors. The Satloc Falcon™ allows the pilot stick, boom, dash, spray system, and many other applications and aircraft inputs to connect, allowing the “vision” of the Falcon to communicate data from the pilot’s will and the aircraft. 70 | agairupdate.com
Falcons are fast. Really fast. From the processors to memory to communications to system architecture, the Satloc Falconô speeds are unprecedented. Falcon’s speed empowers pilots to accelerate decision-making. Falcons are straightforward. The streamlined user interface clearly presents information (such as a drop-down menu), giving the pilot easier navigation in flight and on the ground. Falcons endure miles of rough flying. Durability in flight through rugged conditions is a trademark of Satloc GPS systems. The Satloc Falconô does not disappoint when it comes to reliability for pilots in miles flown in the plane and rough conditions outside the plane. Falcons never drop their prey. Unique to the industry, the new Satloc Falcon™ GPS keeps steady track of the aircraft’s location, no matter the flight parameters or conditions. Falcons represent a long legacy of tradition. UNPARALLELED is the word by many industry leaders when describing Satloc GPS systems. No other GPS matches the intelligence of Satloc Falcon™ —it does not disappoint. Visit us at Booth 715 to learn more about the next generation of Satloc products.
Satloc Technology with Transland Quality We believe every Pilot and Grower deserves great dispersal rate systems, so our seasoned Transland engineers work on a daily basis with Satloc engineers to create products that are the best in the industry. Many classic and new Transland products are integrated with Satloc GPS systems. Our company’s family of products can provide any of your agricultural spray needs from loader valves, booms, nozzles, wet systems, spreaders, and much more! Many of these products communicate seamlessly with Satloc GPS systems to give you precision applications for precision farming. Join us for the annual Transland Breakfast Seminar Tuesday, December 7th, at 7 am at the Savannah Convention Center Chatham Ballroom A. Dennis R. Dorothy Smith Kimmel — 19322021 Dorothy Mae Smith Kimmel was born on October 15, 1932 in the community of Skuna Bottom, Mississippi, near the town of Houlka, and passed away quietly in her sleep on March 30, 2021. She is survived by her beloved sister Ethelene Keck of Gastonia, NC; 4 sons, William L. Kimmel (Edra) of Flowood, MS; Richard L. Kimmel (Terri), Greenwood, MS; Mark A. Kimmel (Kay) Greenwood, MS; and Frank S. Kimmel III (Courtney) Greenwood, MS; along with 11 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents Loyd Smith and Annie Mae Smith (McKnight) and one son Stephen Claude Spratlin. During her life, Dorothy was beloved by all who knew her and was respected by everyone who did business with her. She treated everyone with grace and respect and never met a stranger. One of Dorothy’s friends once said that when she died, they would need “one casket for her body and another one for her heart”. No truer words were ever spoken for a woman that loved her family, friends and customers all the days of her life. After living for a period of time in Georgia, she moved back to her hometown of Houlka, MS, and in 1966 married the late, F. Stewart Kimmel, Jr., and settled in Houston, MS. In 1972 she started Kimmel Aviation Underwriters to place insurance coverage for Agricultural Aircraft. In 1977 the family moved to Greenwood, MS where the business continues operating to this day. The company was later incorporated in 1979 as Kimmel Aviation Insurance Agency, Inc. and grew to be known worldwide as the leader in Ag Aviation Insurance, in large part due to Dorothy’s work ethic, love of people, love of flying and the desire to “take care of” everyone she knew. During her 43 years in the industry, Dorothy served as president of the Women of the

Cascade Receives Thrush “Beast” Certification Cascade Aircraft Conversions has received the FAA STC certifications to install Pratt & Whitney’s 867 SHP PT6140AG on both the Thrush 510P and 510G model aircraft. As an owner of a Thrush 510P or 510G model, this STC upgrade increases your acres per hour and the profitability of your business. For owner/operators operating AG aircraft at higher elevations or higher temperatures, this upgrade substantially increases productivity. The Cascade Aircraft Conversion’s “BEAST” STC complete includes the following: firewall-forward bolt-on kit, zero-time PT6-140AG (w/full warranty), zero-time Avia 108” 3-blade prop, new engine mount and Cascade Pressure Cowl system - providing longer service life for the new turbine. Also, included is the engine Boost Start System that provides 1400-degree, cooler starts in under 15 seconds with no maintenance batteries. The conversion features the industry-leading Cascade Pressure Cowl - proven to deliver more clean air to protect the turbine in all environments. The pressure cowl performs
exceptionally in dusty/sooty, dry/arid, and FOD-heavy locations while reducing ITT temps and fuel consumption. While maintaining a no-FOD history, this critical system really delivers on maintenance allowing easy access to service both the air-filtration system and fuel nozzles. A higher volume of clean air maximizes the longevity of heatcritical components and the engine. The 4000-hour TBO P&W 140AG turbine produces 867SHP up to 111 degrees OAT. The integrated Cascade Pressure Cowl will make your Thrush 510P or 510G a true 500-gallon aircraft every day of the year at TRUE 10,500 gross weight. At higher altitudes or rising OAT, the Cascade conversion eliminates the need to download which in turn maximizes your efficiency and profitability all day long while extending powerplant lifetime and minimizing maintenance overhead. Call Cascade to secure your 140AG “Beast” STC Kit or other performance products and power up your business. Visit us at booth #835 in Savannah.

field boundaries into your guidance system. Our Mobile View lets pilots open batches on the fly, select a job, and automatically record completion information. Surety® Mapping Adds Weather Data Integration AgriData, Inc. is excited to introduce weather information into both their Surety® and Surety® Pro software subscriptions. This weather information is seamlessly integrated within the popular application reports used by applicators across the country. “One of the biggest requests we have is for weather information to automatically populate into the application forms” states AgriData, Inc’s Project Manager, Chad Ringenberg. “Being able to bring in accurate weather data from a trusted provider, such as DTN, adds a ton of value to our software and is extremely convenient for applicators to add weather information to their records.” Using this weather data is easy. Applicators can simply click on the Get Weather button on their application forms to have the Temperature, Wind Speed, Wind Direction, and Cloud Cover populate automatically. Ringenberg adds, “This dataset opens up many possibilities including adding forecasts to help determine spray window dates. We can’t wait to hear feedback from our amazing customers regarding these features.” Access a free 7-day trial at www.agridatainc.com. Call 701-746-8580 for more information!

The Low Down on Drift Reduction Agents Drift-fiant™ is hybrid technology with a patented twist.
Drift Reduction Agents (DRAs) come as polymers, invert emulsions, vegetable polymers, and emulsifiers. Polymer types are thickeners and are susceptible to pump shear. Invert emulsions are tricky and can be unreliable. Vegetable polymers are thickeners but not as thick as other polymers, and are more resistant to pump shear. Emulsion types are the newest technology and function over the broadest range of applications. Drift-fiant™ is hybrid technology with a patented twist—a vegetable polymer that is synergized with an emulsification system. The results are a supreme drift-reduction agent that reduces fines without increasing large “bounce off” droplets, which increases deposition on the leaf by about 15% over the best competitor. AgraSyst has combined Driftfiant’s™ technology with other products for increased convenience including:
*AgraSyst Lo-Drift 90™: Our blended NIS, with Drift-fiant™ inside the formulation. *Full Load Complete™: Our do everything adjuvant—Premium surfactants, water conditioning, Drift reduction and Volatility reduction. “Full Load Complete™ has been our one-stop shop for our spray adjuvants. It is convenient and easy to use. It’s nice to have everything in one jug. We can really see the difference in drift reduction out of the back of the plane”. Fred Meise North West Ag Moses Lake, WA

Endorsed or Not Endorsed? Know What Comms to Install in Your Helmet For five years now, Lightspeed Aviation has delivered ANR systems for helmets with the Zulu H-Mod, responding to overwhelming customer demand for active noise reduction for helmets. Using the award winning ANR technology found in Lightspeed’s Zulu ANR headset series as a template, this purpose-built ANR system designed specifically for aviation helmets focuses on the comfort and clarity fixed wing pilots and Heli pilots have come to expect. The LSA 56 ANR system was developed specifically with Gentex for the HGU-56/P helmet, and a growing army of pilots rely on this trusted technology in both applications. Lightspeed endorses every one of it’s ANR systems in helmets. Beyond the technology, getting the installation just right is a key to ensuring the system has the performance and longevity you expect. global team of skilled technicians and helmet experts and certified them to install and service the systems we sell, and provide the after sales service you expect. One of the most important features unique to the helmet application is the need for an emergency egress. Lightspeed engineers developed an integrated “quick disconnect” that will automatically break free ensuring that you and your helmet exit the aircraft with no noticeable drag from the connection to the panel. There still remains a temptation to install deconstructed aviation headsets into a helmet. This creates a series of problems including poor fit and comfort as well as nonoptimized ANR. A deconstructed headset from any manufacturer “installed” into a helmet not only voids the warranty of the original

ASU Equips AgriFlite for Night-time Aerial Applications One of the best reasons for flying at night is increasing operating hours.
Wakarusa, Indiana-based AgriFlite is a familyowned business that has been in operation since 1973. They provide aerial application services for customers in Indiana, Illinois, and Michigan. The company adopted the use of Night Vision Imaging System (NVIS) in the last two years on their fleet of Air Tractor 802 and 602 aircraft with the help of Aviation Specialties Unlimited (ASU). Garrett Eby serves as AgriFlite’s chief pilot and has flown for more than 20 years. He has flown aerial applicator missions for more than ten years. “I hated flying in the dark,” said Eby. “Flying with night vision goggles is a game-changer and a huge stress reliever. We were forced to fly back
if it was getting dark before NVGs. This wasted our time and money. Now, we can finish our job before flying home.” One of the best reasons for flying at night is increasing operating hours also. NVIS allows AgriFlite to have one pilot flying during the day and one at night, which significantly increases productivity and utilization of their equipment. AgriFlite’s two Air Tractor 802s and two 602s are equipped for night vision operations. ASU, night vision innovators with more than 25 years of experience, installed AgriFlite’s NVIS lighting, provided military-grade goggles, and trained their pilots. Conditions are ideal for flying at night. The winds typically die down, which protects the pollinators nestled safely in their hives. Spraying

ASU’s superior night vision goggles let you clearly see buildings, terrain, trees, wires, towers, and even distinct crop rows while ensuring aerial spray accuracy. at night also protects ground crews who safely return to the fields during the day. Being able to complete their flights and deliver their applications after sundown accelerates the return on their investments. “The NVGs increase our situational awareness and safety. I have had to take a load back before because of low-light situations before NVGs. Now it is like night and day. We often fly hours away from our base of operations, and spray in remote areas. The NVGs allow us to get the payload delivered and get home safe. There was so much we were missing out on by not having NVIS. In our industry there is not another tool that changed so much. This really allows us to fly eight more hours if we need to.”AgriFlite uses their aircraft for spraying mosquitoes and crops.

AGS is the One Stop Shop for Your GPS Needs Before he got his wings, Kameron Gradert was a farmboy from northwest Iowa learning the values of hard work and honesty. Kam took those values with him in the air as co-owner and aerial applicator for Crop Dusters LLC, where he has accrued thousands of hours in Air Tractors, Thrushes, and Turbine Dromaders. Until then, here is a little insight into our company.
About Us Forest Protection Limited (FPL) is a global leader in full spectrum forest health management and a centre of excellence in aerial work. We champion strong, healthy forests and climate change mitigation through fire fighting, research and development, and pest management. When our forests are healthy, they play a vital role in sustaining our ecosystems, our communities, and our economies. As a result, our stakeholders trust us to preserve and promote the sustainability of this important natural resource.
FPL has a rich history. Over 69 years FPL has demonstrated excellence in aerial application and forest fire response and quick attack while being a Transport Canada licensed 702 Aerial Work Operator and Approved Maintenance Organization.
FPL is a pioneer in the use of offset spraying. Using precision GPS tracking with aircraft-based meteorology and an advanced predictive AG-NAV® guidance system, FPL’s Accuair® Aerial Management System (AMS) automatically determines flight path offset to ensure a minimal off-target spray drift. The Accuair® system is designed to exceed aerial application guidance and control requirements. FPL provides turnkey aerial application services. Since our inception we have been a leader in aerial forest pest management leveraging technology that we helped pioneer. Our team collaborates with customers in project planning, and we manage large-scale operations from multiple bases. In the air, our fleet of eight AT802s can be configured for ultra-low volume applications while using drift reduction technology to ensure cost-effectiveness and accuracy. We can provide Aerial Firefighting services to jurisdictions across North America. Our Air Tractor AT-802s can be used for a variety of forest firefighting requirements. Our aerial fire teams consisting of tankers and support aircraft carry loading staff, equipment, and licensed maintenance staff to minimize downtime. About Turbine Training Center For over 20 years, Turbine Training Center has offered a turbine transition training course for ag pilots moving from piston and into turbine-powered aircraft. In addition to our classroom curriculum, we offer an added training dimension with the 502/802 Air Tractor simulator. By incorporating Air Tractor simulator time with the classroom familiarization of the PT6 and its operation, we are able to significantly enhance the knowledge and skills gained through the course. We can give the pilot repetition with normal, operating procedures of the turbine engine, but also have the ability to cover any and all emergency procedures which would not be possible in the actual aircraft in a controlled environment. Whether you are pursuing a career in agricultural aviation or a seasoned, high-time pilot, you can benefit from the safety and knowledge that is gained through initial or recurrent training.
