Message From Your LTG Hi everyone! I hope school is going great for all of you! I’m so glad I’ve had the chance to meet so many of you and will be meeting more of you in the coming weeks. I also cam excited to see you all at fall rally! Let me know if you are coming and I’ll see you all soon!
District Questions What is the AARF, why is it important, and what can our Key Club do to achieve recognition?
AARF stands for Annual Achievement Re-
port Form and is important because it is used to apply for DCON and ICON awards. There are awards ranging from Big Ten to scrapbook, to Kiwanis family Relations. Each has its own criteria on what your club should have done over the year to qualify so check out the packet and
see what your club can do. Also, there’s no harm in applying for awards. In fact, sometimes we have categories that have no winners because of lack of applications! So check out the AARF packet and apply!
Make sure you guys are asking me any questions if you have them so I can help you however I can!
Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF Raise some funds and have fun this Halloween by participating in Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF. It’s a great opportunity to collect donations instead of candy or to bring club members together for a fabulous event. All money collected by Kiwanis-family members through Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF will support The Eliminate Project and help save moms and babies from maternal and neonatal tetanus. So how can you take part in Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF? Well, the process is easy! You can participate in five simple steps: 1. Decide with your club what kind of fundraiser you’ll do. 2. Order your collection boxes. 3. Collect donations. 4. Fill out the gift form and submit it with your club’s donations. 5. Celebrate! You’re helping save moms and babies. Once you’ve collected all of your donations, send a check or money order (made payable to the Kiwanis Children's Fund) and your completed gift form to: The Eliminate Project: Campaign Office Kiwanis Children's Fund P.O. Box 6457 - Dept #286 Indianapolis, IN 46206 USA ATTN: Trick-or-Treat A proud participant in Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF since 1994, Key Club has raised more than 7 million dollars for child survival and development programs around the world — from efforts to eliminate iodine deficiency disorder to HIV/AIDS initiatives in Kenya and Swaziland. Starting in 2012, Key Club joined other Kiwanis Service Leadership Programs to Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF to raise money for The Eliminate Project.
HALO Movement Key Club International has partnered with Nickelodeon for the HALO movement! HALO (helping and leading others) is an organization that inspires kids to take action. This is a great chance to do more service and get more involved. If your club wants to do a service project but are not in a position to fully fund it, your club can apply for the opportunity to receive a HALO grant funding for your service project online at Key Club's Facebook page. Applications are now available as of September 1, 2017 and are due by November 30, 2017. Grant recipients with extraordinary service projects get an opportunity to be featured on TV! So join the movement and use the hashtags #WeHALO and #KeyClub on social media. A second funding cycle will open next year from February 1, 2018 to May 1, 2018 as well. For more information, check out WeHalo.com! If you’ve read up to here please text me your favorite animal!
Youth Opportunities Fund The Youth Opportunities Fund (YOF) is an opportunity to take action and establish great change throughout our communities. Applicants can request anywhere from $100-$2,000 and must include a detailed description of the service project and explain it’s purpose, budget, timeline and impact on the community in their application. The due date is October 15, 2017 at 11:59 P.M. Applications must be submitted through Reviewr through keyclub.org/yof and are reviewed by members of the Key Club International YOF committee at their November meeting. Grant notification will be emailed to all grant applicants the second week of January. It was also announced that $77,000 will be given out this year. In 2017, 87/200 clubs were funded and a total of $71,651.57 was rewarded. Examples of some of their incredible service projects include planting gardens and building libraries. Everyone is encouraged to consider submitting an application and helping make a difference! Apply for a grant here! http://www.keyclub.org/service/fund/yof.aspx
Key Leader Key Leader is a Kiwanis sponsored program that teaches leadership skills to students in grades 9-12 and is open to both key clubbers and non-key clubbers alike. This weekend retreat is a great chance to meet everyone from all over the district, learn what it means to be a servant leader and participate in team building activities all while having fun! This year, Key Leader will be held at Baptist Camp Lebanon in Lebanon, NJ from December 1st to 3rd. This also happens to be on my birthday and I cannot think of any better way to celebrate than to be with my fellow Key Clubbers! The weekend will cost $215 which includes all expenses and Key
Clubbers can receive a discount on this price for early registration. Those who have attended in the past can apply to be student facilitators, and will receive a further discount, as well as the privilege of leading their peers. Registration is open at Key-Leader.org and be sure to select Baptist Camp Lebanon. We encourage everyone to consider attending this beautifully orchestrated event. We hope to see you in December!
