VOLUME 23 > ISSUE 11 > MARCH 17

A Christian who says that he loves God will always be led to love those people whom God loves especially those that need the salvation of their souls. People may be attracted to our church because of our program. They may attend because of curiosity or they may try to be religious just for the sake of necessity, but there must always be a soulwinner who will show them God’s simple plan of salvation. We, therefore, have a very important responsibility. The past two Sundays when I was in Taiwan was indeed a blessing as I saw many souls saved through their Anniversary Sundays and regular soulwinning activities. To reach more, we are now praying to open another work in Tainan. That is and should be the main thing why we start churches. It is indeed for the salvation of the lost and for helping the new converts grow to love God more. Thus, we must desire to walk closer to God, because that will motivate us to win more souls for His glory! May God give us more compassion to reach more souls. Have a blessed Sunday!

College Ladies' Retreat APRIL 9

I

n the other years, in Northwestern University, a group of students organized themselves into a life-saving organization, whose purpose was to go to the rescue of drowning people on Lake Michigan. Early one bleak November morning, urgent word came to the life-saving group that the Lady Elgin, with its human cargo, had been caught in the jaws of a violent storm, and was rapidly going to pieces. The college youths hurried to the scene of the wreck. In the life-saving group was a clean-cut, athletic youth by the name of Ed Spencer. Hurriedly, Ed threw off superfluous garments, tied a rope about his waist, and threw himself into the choppy, chilly waters of Lake Michigan! Swimming out to the wrecked vessel, he signaled to be pulled to shore, until he had rescued a seventh, an eighth, a ninth, and a tenth person! Utterly exhausted, he went and stood by the fire of logs that cold bleak morning, blue, pinched, trembling, and hardly able to stand. As he stood there, he lifted his eyes again toward the scene of the Lady Elgin. There he saw men, women, and children struggling in the water. Said he, "Boys, I'm going in again!" "No, no, Ed," they implored, "it is utterly vain to try; you have used up all your strength; you could not save anybody. For you to try again in your spent condition would be suicidal!" Said Ed, "But they are going down—perishing—and I will try again!" Into those bleak, blue waters he leapt, and brought to safety an eleventh, a twelfth, a thirteenth, a fourteenth, and a fifteenth person. He could

scarcely get to the fire on the beach. As he stood there, he saw a spar rising and falling upon the waves. Seeing a man's head above the spar, he said, "Boys, there's a man trying to save himself. He watched the spar as it drifted toward the point. He knew that to drift around that point meant certain death. Said he, "Boys, I'm going to help that man!" "No, no, Ed, you can't help him. Your strength is gone." "But, I'll try anyway," said he. Into the waters he sprang. He rescued his man, and was then carried to his room in a delirious condition. As the delirium lifted from his mind intermittently, he would ask, "Did I do my best, my dead level best?" "Why, Ed," came the reply, "you saved sixteen!" Replied Ed wearily, "Yes, I know that, but did I do my best, my dead level best?" Though he rescued so many his only thought was of the men, women, and children who perished that bleak November morning. Throughout that night, he would mumble but one thing: "Oh, if I could only have saved just one more!" Friends, in this momentous, fateful hour, let the ruling passion of each one be to do his best, his dead level best for God, for country, and for others. It was His best, His dead level best, which the Saviour did for you and me when He gave willingly His life upon His cruel cross that we, through faith in His name, should have life eternal: "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends" (John 15:13). - Dr. R. A. Torrey

ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

MARK 16:15

DAVID LIVINGSTONE "If a commission by an earthly king is considered a honor, how can a commission by a Heavenly King be considered a sacrifice?"

Philip Paul Bliss was directing the singing for a series of services being conducted by the well-known preacher Dwight L. Moody. As he closed his message, Moody told the story of a captain who was attempting to bring his boat to the Cleveland harbor one very dark and stormy night. The waves rolled like mountains, Moody said, and not a star was to be seen in the clouded sky. He pictured the boat rocking on the violent waves as the captain peered through the darkness for the sight of a signal light by means of which to guide his vessel to safety. He turned to the sailor and asked: “Are you sure this is Cleveland harbor?” “Quite sure, sir,” the sailor replied. “Then where are the lower lights?” the captain continued. “Gone out, sir,” the other man answered. “Can you make the harbor?” the captain asked anxiously. “We must, or perish, sir,” the sailor replied. But despite his strong heart and brave hand, in the darkness he missed the channel. With a resounding crash the boat piled up on the rocks and then settled slowly to a watery grave. As the congregation listened intently, Moody concluded with this admonition to the Christians: “Brethren, let us keep the lower lights burning.” That was all Bliss needed to pen one of his most popular hymns, “Let the Lower Lights Be Burning.”

Are you seeking out the lost ones whom the Saviour died to win? AFRICA

Are you showing them the fountain that can wash away their sin? Are you looking by the wayside for the weary ones who fall? Do you win them to the Master Who has promised rest to all! - copied

Good Example

LEADING OTHERS TO CHRIST Beata B. Agustin

"He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ" (John 1:41).

Leading others to Christ is God’s command For us saved who are secured in His hand Ever constraining us thru His urgent demand To share with sinners His everlasting life so grand For them to enjoy blessings in His promised land! Leading others to Christ is God’s mandate For us saints who are assured of His heaven’s gate Ever enforcing us His order that we should not be late To usher the lost to His illuminating trait For them to receive pardon of His righteousness’ state! Leading others to Christ is God’s directive For us stewards who are revived thru His Word to be active Ever prodding us by His missionary objective To win the unbelievers toward His truth, spiritually effective For them to trust His Gospel that’s always redemptive! Leading others to Christ is God’s instruction For us servants who are committed to His ministering function Ever teaching us the fulfillment of His Great Commission To bring the hopeless into His power of regeneration For them to find joy in His peace-filled justification! Leading others to Christ is God’s way For us sowers who are guided to His work as we pray Ever directing us by His biblical ray To scatter among the heathen His salvation seeds without delay For them to possess the right faith and in His will, grow and stay! Leading others to Christ is God’s calling For us sanctified who are fired-up by His Spirit’s fueling Ever moving in us in His gracious dealing To warn the hell-bound against His wrath, causing ceaseless wailing For them to own His gift of eternal sealing! Leading others to Christ is God’s design For us soulwinners who are brightened in His light to shine Ever compelling us to declare His mercy that will never resign To help the religious choose what His Scriptures did assign For them to seek His kingdom of sovereign victory-ensign!

The story is related of a gentleman who laid a piece of sweetmeat on the table, and then picked up an ant and placed it on the sweetmeat. He was astonished to see the little creature rapidly descend by one of the legs of the table and seek his fellows. They appeared to understand the news. He then at once turned back, followed by a long train of his fellow citizens, and conducted them to the prize. Are there not many who know the sweetness of the Gospel, who might learn a lesson from this ant? If we have tasted and seen that the Lord is good let us do what we can to lead others into like blessing. - Selected

"What did you preach about on Sunday?" was the question asked of a city pastor one day. "I preached about Andrew," was the reply, "and, do you know, I found him a most interesting character!" "What was there about him that was remarkable?" "Well, I do not suppose you would call him a great man, but the significant thing about him was that every time he is mentioned in Scripture he was introducing someone to Jesus." This was certainly a beautiful occupation, and yet it does not call for any wonderful talents. It is work that any one of us can do. - Selected

4. Ibahagi sa iba si Kristo Hesus.
