Being Comfortable with Discomfort It is a fact of life that there are times when we all need to cope with discomfort. It might not be what we want but we put up with it. When it comes to physical discomfort, for example slightly sore feet or legs, or tiredness at the end of a long walk, there is sometimes an almost enjoyable side to it as we have achieved something. Obviously I’m not suggesting we ignore all physical discomfort as it can be one way the body tells us it needs some kind of attention or something is going wrong and we’d do well to listen to it.

But the type of discomfort I’m talking about here is emotional discomfort – like when we do things that are outside of our comfort zone, learning a new skill, doing things differently, perhaps doing things we’ve never done before which might scare us a bit – and let’s be honest if we want to continue to grow and develop there will be times when we must do this.

Why we need to be comfortable with discomfort In times gone by discomfort was often a part of everyday life it wasn’t unusual for many people to be hungry or cold or be under threat – those were aspects of life that most people got used to but in recent decades we seem to have become very used to comfort and often will not be accepting at all of discomfort. Many of us have grown used to the easy road to being comfortable to perhaps avoiding change or challenge because we know we don’t find those things comfortable. But in today’s world, we all need to get comfortable with change and uncertainty. We also know that effective learning often means stepping outside of our comfort zone so if we want to continue to grow and develop, we need to be comfortable with a bit of feeling uncomfortable. Wouldn’t it be great if we could just download an app and learn a language overnight, or learn to play a musical instrument without practice? But that is not reality. We need to put in the effort and cope with the discomfort if we want to learn, whether that is the frustration of making mistakes when learning a language or the sore fingertips that come with learning to play the guitar.

If we get used to being uncomfortable perhaps even embracing that discomfort then often it can open doors to our growth and success and it can help us cope with things that aren’t under our control – one of the things that many people find a particular challenge.

How do I master discomfort? For most of us this will be a lengthy journey but here are a few tips that can help you to get started:

1 - Don’t be afraid of discomfort. Remind yourself that we aren’t talking about agony usually we are talking about discomfort – feelings like worry, anxiety, a degree of fear. But actually, as humans we are designed to be able to cope with those. If we constantly run-away from anything that causes discomfort then we restrict ourselves to staying in our comfort zone – and that isn’t the place where growth usually happens. 2 - Take small steps Let’s imagine taking on a challenge like learning to run. Well, there’s nothing to stop you going from being a nonrunner to doing a marathon. But most people start with a 5k run then 10k then maybe a half marathon. Chances are if you take on a challenge that is too big, you’ll completely put yourself off and retire back to the comfort of the couch.

3 - Do it regularly Get used to putting yourself in situations of discomfort. Give yourself challenges do things that make you just a little bit afraid so that you can get used to mastering the feelings. Try learning a new skill, or maybe doing something that gets your adrenaline going, anything from karaoke to a physical challenge. It doesn’t matter and obviously it will be a very individual choice but if you know it’s a challenge for you then that is a good thing to do. 4 - Say yes to new opportunities Have you ever seen an opportunity – maybe something like a new job, a promotion the chance of some sort of collaboration or new venture but ruled out the opportunity because you realised maybe you were short on a few skills or lacking in confidence. Saying no to things often keeps us in our place of comfort but that’s not the place of growth. So next time you find yourself about to say ‘no’ just take a moment to think and consider saying yes and maybe learning the new things you need to learn or embracing the discomfort that being out of your comfort zone might bring. 5 - Pat yourself on the back If you take on a challenge and nail it and manage to cope with your feelings of discomfort then give yourself a good pat on the back and be prepared to do it again soon, things we fear often quickly become comfortable when we practice them. Midlife Madness

For a while now we have been considering getting a dog. Now I must confess I’m not really a fan of our canine friends. I suppose if I’m honest, I’m a little bit afraid of them. I‘ve never been hurt by one but I have had many instances of feeling quite intimidated or afraid, or downright terrified. I’m somehow convinced that every time I come across a dog, they actually want to eat me. Yes, I know its irrational, my husband says I need to speak ‘dog’ because usually what they’re saying with their bark is ‘hi shall we play?’ As a child I never had a dog whereas my husband came from a family a bit like the Durrells, with cats, dogs, horses and numerous other ‘pets’ so in my head it’s obvious he’s more comfortable with animals. So, while it might seem strange for us to get a dog, part of the plan is for me to get more comfortable with our furry friends. After we’d had our initial discussion, we actually ruled out getting a rescue dog as I felt I needed a dog that was small to start with to reduce my fear ‘factor’. So, we started our search for a puppy. Well, it has been an education. We started off wanting a Heinz 57 variety, but quickly realised that there were none to be had it seemed. In fact, there wasn’t a Primark equivalent when it came to dogs it was all Armani, or at least Ted Baker.

I couldn’t believe that dogs seemed to have become ‘designer’ literally the cockapoos and cavapoos managing to be hyper allergenic and non-moulting. But of course, you pay heavily for such desirable features – literally thousands. Then there are Bernedoodles, (St Bernards and poodles) Labradoodles Labrador and poodle but also a Saint Weiler, (rottweiler and St Bernard) a Puggle (Pugg and Beagle) and even a Chiweenie (Chihuahua and Dachshund) – I can see you are getting the hang of it now! Trust me it is a very long list.

So, we had a bit of a back to the drawing board moment and thought we’d look at a non-mixed dog– a huge array of different breeds as maybe they’d be a bit cheaper, you know a Beagle or Spaniel but no they all seemed to cost thousands.

Essentially a mongrel is a mixed breed but the mixed breed puppies we came across all seemed to cost thousands yet pure breeds also seem to cost thousands in fact the notion of an economy dog was fast disappearing and we’d ruled out a rescue dog so it was all becoming a bit tough. Then of course we had to agree on the puppy we wanted. I wanted a small dog, he wanted large, I wanted a furry longhaired pooch he wanted a shorthaired dog. Oh dear

It needs to be remembered too that buying the wee pooch was just the start of the financial commitment – there’d be food, vaccinations, kit, (the list they suggest on dog buying sites is huge) and of course insurance. Maybe it was a luxury we couldn’t afford – but we knew it would do us good, the companionship the having to go for a walk even when it was raining, even training would be like a new hobby. One evening when we bored with Netflix – we set about designing our own dogs, mine was a jackabeaglecavadoodle and hubby chose a Bernieweillerlabrasation.

When we go out on walks, we play a game where we guess the breed combinations of dogs we come across while I try to NOT show that I’m a bit afraid, or absolutely terrified depending on the breed, how quickly it runs towards me and how responsive it is to its owners commands. As we haven’t got thousands to spare, we’ve had to have a change of heart - we’ve decided that a cat might actually be the way to go!

Ten Years Younger The treatment began with a thorough make-up cleanse, followed by the application (using a very fine brush) of glycolic acid to my skin, this works by speeding up natural cell renewal by removing the outermost layer of dermis (skin). Which effectively means I am left with a new layer of skin, one which looks fresher and more youthful. As the glycolic acid is applied I can feel my skin tingling and Jo is quick to reassure and check that the tingling doesn’t become unbearable, after a minute a neutralising solution is added and massaged into the skin.

N

ow and again, a beauty treatment causes a stir – for all the right reasons. So much so, I can’t stop shouting about the ‘Chemical Skin Peel’ from Jo at The Harmony Clinic in Bedfordshire. I’ve had treatments from The Harmony Clinic before and Jo always goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome and relaxed and this time it was no different.

This is then removed before an Esthemax Hydro Jelly Mask is applied, these masks are a firm favourite with celebrities and loved by the aesthetics industry for their extremely nourishing hydration. They have a jelly like feel, that once on the face feels cool and refreshing.

Not only is this treatment amazing for your skin, it’s also amazing for your wellbeing – for the next 20 minutes whilst the mask works its magic, Jo worked her magic performing some complementary Reiki, a Japanese healing treatment, which helps to calm the mind, promoting healing for both body and spirit, which left me feeling refreshed, invigorated and replenished.

I’d opted for a course of 3 chemical peels, (a week apart) to rejuvenate and add a little life into my lack lustre skin. I also added extras in the form of a Hydro Jelly Mask and Reiki. Before the facial even begins Jo takes time to get to know you and your skin, and talks you through the best options available, she personalises everything so the treatment is exclusive to you.

After the mask is removed, my skin felt amazing, the chemical peels are miracles – they definitely do what they say on the tin, after only one treatment I had people commenting on what I’d had done as I looked glowing and years younger. Skin peels offer a revolutionary way to effectively treat aging skin, acne, reduce sun damage and hyperpigmentation. I can guarantee you won’t be disappointed with the results, this is now a must have for me each month. Ready for a New Chapter: Refine your Morning Ritual this Spring As we gradually emerge from a year of COVID and lockdowns, experts at Marley Coffee share their guide to creating a morning ritual that leaves you energised and ready to take on the day, no matter what the coming months might throw at us

Spring is the ideal season to hit ‘refresh’ on our health habits and introduce daily rituals to help achieve optimal physical, mental and spiritual health. And with a life less restricted now in sight, it is more important than ever to revaluate and readjust, as the next chapter unfolds.

Bad habits, stresses of modern life or worries about health or family can quickly creep up on us, hugely affecting energy levels, mood and outlook. Having an established routine that helps set you up for the day can make all the difference, enabling us to feel more positive, alert and productive. “Taking the time to set up a morning ritual that is personalised to your needs and goals is paramount, as a routine that works for one person might not work for another. Setting dedicated time aside in the morning enables you to focus wholly on yourself and your own needs before tackling the day ahead. The experts at Marley Coffee, (global gourmet organic coffee brand from the family of Bob Marle), share their tips for the perfect morning ritual. Set your wake-up time, and stick to it Having a set time to wake up each morning will help your body get into a good sleep-wake cycle. To help reinforce this cycle, avoid hitting snooze, as this can confuse the body about whether it is meant to be asleep or awake and can make you feel groggier when it is finally time to get up. Get into the habit of hearing your alarm, putting both feet on the floor and sitting up (play the ‘Get Up, Stand Up’ Marley mantra in your head to help), taking a stretch, and then making the bed straight away - so you’re less inclined to jump back in!

This will also ensure that you have enough time each morning to fully commit to your morning ritual and aren’t left feeling rushed or flustered at the start of the day.

To ensure a gentle wake up, we suggest using a sunrise alarm clock or lightbox. These work by simulating sunrise and when the light reaches its highest intensity, rather than being woken by a harsh beeping sound, you can listen to the gentle and soothing sounds of the natural world – a much more peaceful and stress-free way of starting the day. Play some feel-good tunes Playing music helps set the tone for the day, so once the bed has been made, pop on some tunes and don’t be afraid to have a little sing along and boogie. Science has proven that music helps improve brain function and health in many

ways, with studies showing that it activates every part of the brain, leading to increased happiness and productivity. It can also help reduce levels of the stress hormone, cortisol. To incorporate this easily into your morning routine, create a dedicated feelgood morning music playlist on your phone or device that you can play as soon as you get out of bed. The Marley Coffee team suggests a mix of uplifting reggae music for the most soulful start to the morning of course.

Pour yourself a coffee, and take your time to enjoy it It’s no secret that a good caffeine hit can make or break the start of the day. Coffee has a plethora of benefits to support healthy brain function; specifically memory, mood, energy levels, and reaction times. But don’t rush this part of the morning – it’s important to take the time to enjoy the process and savour the flavour.

Whether you brew your coffee in a Moka pot, French press, Aero press, Chemex or other method, be sure to choose a coffee brand that not only creates delicious blends, but also considers sustainability and the environment. 4. Make a list Carving out 10-15 minutes each morning to practice gratitude and plan your day will help you keep on top of tasks and commitments and set you up for a productive day. A simple way to start is to write down three things that you are grateful for and three goals for the day. Ensure the list of goals is feasible (don’t set unreachable expectations to only end up letting yourself down!) and visualise what your day needs to look like in order to achieve them.

Getting into the habit of doing this each and every day will help you to live a more purposeful and intentional life, as well as helping you to feel in control. Get moving! Get those endorphins pumping with some morning exercise. It doesn’t need to be strenuous – even some light stretching or yoga can have huge benefits. Studies have shown that morning exercise kick starts the metabolism and helps promote better quality sleep come bedtime. Setting time aside for physical activity in the morning means that you’re less likely to run into scheduling conflicts later in the day, such as working late, or make excuses not to do it after a tiring day at work.

It’s important to note that whatever your morning ritual might be, it must work for you to have the ultimate impact. Don’t force it or you won’t follow it. It might take some time to really refine your routine and form solid habits, so take your time, experiment a little, and figure out what works best for you.

Mindfulness Mondays: Top Tips to Reducing Anxiety about Returning to Work

For the 24 million Brits currently working from home, many would be forgiven for thinking that they are actually living at work. With the British home being transformed from our own personal castles to permanent office spaces, this latest national lockdown has made it far more difficult for Brits to clock off and escape the pressures of work in peace, with 37% of Brits say that working from home has made them the most lethargic and tired they have ever been. Research highlights the dramatic negative impact this past year has had on our energy levels. COVID induced lockdowns have caused millions across the country to remain confined to their homes, limiting opportunities to be active. As the nation heads back to the office, it is more important than ever for us to find ways to perk up and stay positive during these tough times. In light of this, John Nolan-Neylan, CEO and Co-Founder of

high-performance nutrition brand Revvies, offers his top tips to help brits combat anxiety and avoid burning out as we return to work: 1. Have some 'mindful' me time, and meditate Practicing mindfulness, and particularly engaging in a simple meditation practice, has been linked to a host of cognitive benefits. Allowing yourself some time to relax, quiet the mind, and focus on regular, smooth breathing can boost the brain's executive functions, reduce impulsive and emotional behaviour, improve mood, and leave you feeling energised. This is an especially effective technique after a draining workday to achieve a productive, feel-good evening.

2. Get up early and exercise outdoors The right amount of exercise and sleep will bring the most benefits to your energy levels. According to a study conducted by Appalachian State University, the best time

may21.qxp_Jan 2014 Aff 27/04/2021 20:36 Page 17

to exercise for weight management and better sleep is at 7 am. Exercising and sleeping well can make yourself more alert, reduce stress, and improve cognitive functioning which is sure to make you more energised to get through the day.

3. Rest & self-care It is important to use your free time in the evenings and weekends to rest and care for yourself. For some this is chilling out and watching a movie, having a bath with a glass of wine or going for a nice brisk walk with your family. It is so important to be able to use the spare time you have to rest and recharge in order to avoid burning out mid-week. Resting allows you to replenish your energy levels, whilst also taking your mind off work or any worries and anxieties you may have of the week ahead. 4. Organise your time to make the most out of your day The benefits of organising your day are simple - being more organised and achieving your goals gives you a great

sense of satisfaction, and gives you more time to reap the rewards of the other tips on this list! Being able to effectively plan your day will help you to boost your productivity - both at work and at home - and enable you to take the ‘me time’, nap time and exercise time needed to live a happy and energy-filled life. 5. Use caffeine to your advantage Revvies Energy Strips contain either 40mg or 100mg of caffeine in each serving – which is roughly equivalent to either a cup of tea or coffee respectively. Dissolving on the tongue in seconds they provide a faster pick me up to help you perform at your peak. Used by professional sports teams and Olympic athletes, you can take them without any water for a convenient and rapid boost of energy. Taking a Revvies sugar-free strip in a moment of fatigue, or just at the end of the working day, will give you the alertness and energy you need to help you make the most of your day.

Chicken, Leek & Pea Pasta Bake

Ingredients

A delicious pasta bake for the whole family to enjoy. Great for using up leftover chicken.

1 tablespoon butter , plus extra for greasing 350g conchiglie pasta Olive oil 2 leeks 2 cloves of garlic 100ml chicken stock 100ml white wine 150g frozen peas 200g cooked chicken 225ml milk 250gricotta cheese 60g Parmesan cheese

Method

Preheat the oven to 180°C/350°F/gas 4. Grease a 30cm x 25cm baking dish. Cook the pasta in a large pan of boiling salted water, for slightly less time than given on the packet so it’s just undercooked. Drain and run under cold water to stop it from cooking further. Return to the saucepan and coat with a drizzle of olive oil. Meanwhile, roughly chop the leeks. Put the butter in a frying pan and gently fry the leeks for 10 minutes or until they’re soft. Peel, mince and add the garlic and cook for 1 minute. Add the stock and wine, then cook for 8 to 10 minutes, or until almost all the liquid has evaporated. Add the peas, stir and cook for 30 seconds. Dice the cooked chicken. To the drained pasta, add the leek mixture, chicken, milk and two-thirds of the ricotta. Mix gently to combine and season with salt and pepper. Spoon the pasta mixture into the baking dish. Top with the remaining ricotta, grate over the Parmesan and drizzle with olive oil, if you like. Bake in the oven for 25 minutes or until piping hot and starting to crisp up on top. Recipe: Jamie Oliver

Pear, Gorgonzola and Butternut Risotto Pears add a delicious flavour to this vegetarian risotto.

Ingredients

2tbsp olive oil 300g risotto rice 300g prepared butternut squash, chopped into small chunks 100ml dry white wine 1 litre vegetable stock 1tbsp chopped fresh sage or thyme 1 South African pear, cored and thinly sliced Finely grated zest of 1 lemon 40g finely grated Parmesan cheese 250g Gorgonzola South African pear slices and a few sage or thyme leaves, for garnish

Method

Heat the oil in a large saucepan or deepsided frying pan. Add the rice and butternut squash and cook over a low heat for 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly. Take care that the rice doesn’t burn! Pour in the wine and allow it to bubble up and evaporate. Pour about one third of the stock into the pan and cook the risotto over a low heat, stirring often, until the liquid has almost been absorbed. Gradually add the remaining stock and continue to cook gently until it has all been absorbed, and the rice is swollen and tender. This will take about 25-30 minutes. Add the sage or thyme, South African pear slices, lemon zest and Parmesan. Cook, stirring, for another 2-3 minutes. Serve each portion topped with a generous slice of Gorgonzola, garnished with pear slices and sage or thyme. Top Tip: Risotto has to be cooked slowly so that the rice gradually absorbs the liquid to become creamy and delicious – choose Italian arborio or carnaroli rice for the best result.

Peach and Amaretto Tiramisu This luscious dessert is perfect for an alfresco garden party and can be made a day ahead.

Ingredients

300ml strong black coffee, cooled 6tbsp Amaretto liqueur or Marsala 200g pack sponge fingers 4 South African peaches, pitted and thinly sliced 2 x 250g tubs mascarpone cheese 400ml double cream Finely grated zest of 1 orange 30g caster sugar 2-3tbsp pomegranate seeds

Put the coffee into a shallow bowl and add the Amaretto liqueur or Marsala. One at a time, dip in half the sponge fingers, allowing a couple of seconds for the liquid to soak in, transferring them to a large trifle bowl as you go along. Beat the mascarpone cheese in a bowl to soften it. Whip the cream in a large chilled bowl until floppy, then fold it into the mascarpone with the orange zest and sugar. Pile half on top of the sponge fingers and spread out evenly. Arrange half the peach slices over the top in an even layer. Repeat the layers of soaked sponge fingers, mascarpone mixture and peaches. Cover and chill until ready to serve, sprinkled with the pomegranate seeds. Top Tip: You could use trifle sponges instead of sponge fingers – and raid the drinks cabinet if you don’t have Amaretto liqueur or Marsala – try Tia Maria or sweet sherry instead. If you like, sprinkle the top with 3-4 roughly crushed Amaretto biscuits.

Fry’s Footie Corner

Tuesday 27th April. My wife Kirstine is 66 on this day, it reminds me of the one of the greatest days in football, 1966 when Bobby Moore picked up the Jules Rimet trophy from our beloved Queen in winning the World Cup.

On leaving home on this particular day in 2021, all my wife said she wanted as a present for her birthday was for Posh for to get promoted back into the Championship from our game with Doncaster, but sometimes in life you don’t get what you want.

The manager Darren Ferguson has achieved so much in his career already, he has four promotions on his CV and hopefully he can make it number five as well as the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy success. This year has been incredibly challenging due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The management, players and backroom staff have provided an invaluable contribution and our fans have been absolutely marvellous, helping where they can whilst watching from afar.

This year is my 60th year in football. From my playing days at Manchester United, to my 32 years in management and my recent term as a Director of Football, I have now spent 25 years at Peterborough United Football Club.

The three co-owners have been amazing to carry the club forward. Off the pitch, they have purchased the current stadium from the council, we are in the process of moving up to Category 2 within our Academy and they deserve enormous praise for getting us into this position.

For the last three years, Darragh has brought in partners and Jason Neale and Stewart Thompson and these three gentlemen have taken the club to heights that I could only dream of.

A replacement for Ivan Toney and Sammie Szmodics, who was superb in a loan spell last season. They’ve got 50 goals between them, without those two players we wouldn’t be in the position we currently are.

Of course, I have also been the owner and Darragh MacAnthony literally saved my life by buying the football club. The strain and responsibility of paying everybody’s wages was putting me in an early grave. I could only dream of the progress the Posh have made under the leadership of DMAC.

We are on the cusp of achieving what we set out to achieve, promotion back to the Championship and how lucky would I be if that all worked out when I am celebrating these marvellous and miraculous milestones.

I must say, without DMACs determination, will to win and relentless nature, the summer could have been very different. He was so determined to ensure we got the players in that we required. He wanted to reward the fans and everybody for the way last season ended. I thought the deals were dead.

Up The POSH!

Barry Fry

Il Sereno Lake Como Launches

New Penthouse Suite

l Sereno is delighted to announce the evolution of what has become a contemporary icon of Lake Como and one of the most celebrated hotel launches of the 21st century so far. Winning coveted awards across the globe since it launched four years ago, as well as a Michelin Star in its first year, this is a game changing hotel for a previously neo-classically dominated region.

The interiors are inspired by classic post-war Italian glamour, ‘La Dolce Vita’, modernist Italian designers, the much-loved Como silks, for which the region is famous, and the design icon of Il Sereno itself.

Design Concept While the design language is inspired by Il Sereno, with the same materials, artisans and proportions, the concept is totally unique. The existing Penthouse has been rated consistently amongst the best in the world, ranked as one of the best suites in Italy by The Times and one of the best in the world by Elite Traveler. However, the duo decided that this was not enough, they wanted to surpass it with their new vision.

Like Il Sereno, the design will be timeless, with a strong sense of place and use of natural materials from the region. For Urquiola, it was particularly important that everything was locally sourced. The Penthouse will showcase innovative use of rich materials, including fantastic Canaletto walnut ceilings, Verde Alpi stone walls and Ceppo di Gre local stone floors. Since the opening of the hotel, with Ceppo di Gre façade and use throughout the hotel, brands from Oliver’s People to Valextra to Valentino have also been

I

Patricia Urquiola and hotelier Luis Contreras, named the ‘super-duo’ by Wallpaper*, are back to design a stand-out new Penthouse Suite in a building adjacent to the hotel, launching in June this year. This project aims to top their creations to date, by making what local mainstay La Provincia di Como has referenced to be the best Penthouse in the world.

The choice of furniture is a tribute to the emblematic pieces of Italian design, the tradition of their local production and the architecture of the post-war years. This will be a mixture of new bespoke pieces by Patricia Urquiola, as well as some of her latest design projects, such as the fabulous Lariana bathtub designed for Il Sereno and now available from AGAPE or the Ludo lounge chair from Capellini, mixed with classics from the likes of Franco Albini and Gio Ponti. This will be a shoppable suite, with all furniture available for sale.

inspired to use this stone in their boutiques, which was rarely seen before. Here, it will be incorporated in an innovative way: Venetian terrazzo floors will be combined with geometric tiles of Ceppo for a new and classic look. The bedroom wall is also made of Ceppo, specially grooved to provide additional texture. Continuing with local stone, rich, green Verdi Alpi stone was chosen to cover the living room wall.

With Como being the first place in the Western world where silks were woven after Marco Polo brought them over from China, and still the world’s centre for high-end production, this beautiful fabric is celebrated within the design. Urquiola designed silks are already used for the uniforms in existing hotels and here, additional patterns are used to produce decorative cushions, foulards and other products on sale. Fabrics take inspiration from 1950s scarf fashion and the landscape motifs of Lake Como.

Accessed by a separate elevator, there will be almost 150 square metres (1600 sq ft) of living space, including a 30 square metre terrace, plus an additional 50 square metre grass garden around the perimeter.

The Penthouse will have a large living room, dining space, two bathrooms, main bedroom, sleeping up to four and spectacular views of the lake from all the rooms.

Leading French botanist Patrick Blanc is also back adding a vertical garden to the new façade below the suite. After executing three pieces in the exiting hotel (Le Canyon, Les Racines Echasses and Le Mirroir du Lac), Blanc will once again design a living wall that will be seen from the lake and interact with the façade of the building and the neighbouring Mirroir du Lac.

The brand ethos of Sereno Hotels is always to amplify the beautiful surroundings the hotels are situated in. And here, an important design aspect is the framing of the panoramic views on all sides from the suite, the atmosphere of life on the lake and the omnipresent relationship with the lake in front and the mountain behind the hotel. The new Penthouse Suite costs from €3,500 per night Bookings: www.ilsereno.com

Work, Live & Play in Mauritius f you have ever dreamt of changing the pace of your life or living in a beautiful location for an extended period - now is the time to start planning that move for when we can travel again. With the new long-stay visa scheme announced by the Mauritian government, their vaccination programme in progress, and a great long stay rental offer from Heritage The Villas, Mauritius is a good option for those looking to move to a safe tropical destination to work, live and play.

I

Mauritius is now rolling out its vaccination programme, with employees working in tourism being prioritised amongst other groups. Visitors holding the Premium Visa are eligible to receive their vaccinations free of charge. Mauritius is the only country in the world which offers long-term visitor visas free of charge and a free Covid vaccine to holders of these visas.

The government is ready to restart the tourism industry on the island and make it as safe as possible for international visitors. Mauritius has had one of the world's best responses to the pandemic and the strict quarantine measures have meant there has been little disruption to social life in Mauritius since June 2020, with practically no known cases of community transmission. Entry restrictions and quarantine requirements are expected to ease gradually as the vaccination programme rolls out. It is expected that tourists who have been vaccinated will soon be allowed to enter the country freely.

Heritage The Villas, located on Domaine de Bel Ombre on the south coast, provides a 'home from home' environment for an extended stay. The Domaine is a 2,500-hectare estate that is juxtaposed between rolling green hills and the Indian Ocean, where new residents

have everything they need for a longer working stay. The three- and four-bedroom villas have mountain, golf course or sea views and each has a private garden with an expansive terrace and pool, that are perfect for alfresco dining and barbecues. High speed wifi and rooms that can be used as home offices, makes working from home a breeze.

Prices start from £2,800 per month for a minimum of 2 months stay in a 3 bed villa including all utilities, daily housekeeping, pool and garden maintenance, complimentary wifi and use of a 4 seater golf cart plus free daily green fees, free access to the two five star resorts – Heritage Awali and Heritage Le Telfair, and C Beach Club. The offer is valid until 23rd December 2021. To help visitors with the move to Mauritius and to get settled, the visa scheme offers an 'arrival concierge'. The service helps new residents find a home, a car, with banking service and telecoms. The island has much to offer those looking for a base to work or run a business - a state-of-the-art telecommunications infrastructure and a reliable ICT connectivity, an established business infrastructure of banking, financial and legal services, a range of office space and other business facilities. The time zone is also ideal for working remotely with just a 4-hour time difference to the UK. From early December until the beginning of April, the average daily temperature is about 29°C with 8 hours of sunshine per day.

Mauritius is considered one of the safest countries in the Indian Ocean region, with a low overall crime rate. It is a non-aligned country with strong and friendly relationships with the international community. The diversity and richness of cultures are at the core of the originality and charm of Mauritius. The country is a rare

example of social peace and unity in a multi-cultural society that is admired by the rest of the world.

After work, the leisure possibilities are extensive. You can relax on the white sand beaches, swim in the ocean, play a leisurely round of golf at the awardwinning Heritage Golf Club, chill out at the C Beach club, enjoy an array of water sports, have a relaxing spa treatment in the hotel's spa, go for a hike in the Heritage nature reserve or participate in the hotel's daily activity programme of classes and activities.

And if you don't feel like cooking, a private chef can be arranged to cook for you in your villa, or you can visit any of the Domaine's 12 restaurants at sister properties, Heritage Le Telfair and Heritage Awali, where you can enjoy a 20% discount on food (excluding Le Chateau and Awali Boma). From local Mauritian dishes in a fine dining 19th century chateau to 'toes in the sand dining' at a beach side restaurant, there is a different culinary experience for each day of the week. Currently to enter Mauritius, you must currently take several Covid tests and quarantine in a governmentapproved hotel on a full board basis for 14 days on arrival.
