I have been working for Afford as a Lifestyle Support Worker for just over four months. I work with clients from a variety of cultural backgrounds who have moderate and high behaviour needs. I also provide one-on-one support for a client with high autism. I pick them up from home and take them out on day programs, such as bushwalk ,to play in park, or to help him go shopping for himself. I also take my clients to Afford sensory rooms and on weekends I go to Club Afford where I also work with clients from other group homes. I feel like Afford has a good understanding of their staff and clients. I have already been given the chance to develop my skills - I've obtained my Mental Health First Aider Certificate through Afford. In my very first month with Afford, I was awarded 2nd place in the Excellent Customer Service Awards! I was so happy to see that my hard work was recognised by the company with so many other staff there to see my achievements.

I started working for Afford as a Lifestyle Assistant in 2016. I was successful in becoming a one-on-one support staff for a client at their house, as she suffers with anxiety and depression. My greatest highlight has been being there for her and slowly building up her confidence. This has had a positive outcome for this client in particular, because she now has the confidence to go out into the community. When I go to her house every Wednesday, she is happy to see me and is comfortable to talk and go out into the community. I love working for Afford as I love to help others and especially achieve client goals. I also love to be part of the extra activities that they provide, such as Club Afford.
