MCP APPLICATION AIESEC For The Netherlands
19.20
Dear Applicant, Congrats for opening this booklet and reading this, because this means either that you are already thinking of applying or that you are just curious to see what it takes to apply (and start thinking about it later). In either case, AIESEC For The Netherlands needs you!
As MCP you will discover your personal definition of leadership and become the ultimate embodiment of that definition. As MCP you are getting the most amazing and powerful support system in your MC team and your LCPs.
Less than one year ago, I was in your position: I opened the booklet, read it through and decided that I wasn’t going to apply - I thought. However, there had been a spark and I kept thinking about the role of MCP. After discussing it with previous MCPs, my MC team in Nicaragua and my parents I figured that I had this fire inside me to contribute to the organization, and that the role of MCP could give me a lot in return. Fast forwarding through a lot of sweat, emotions, and reflections, I got elected to be the next leader of this amazing entity.
The application and selection process is a quick preview of what your experience could be: you will have to learn, gain perspectives and insights and start shaping your vision and direction for the organization - on the short-, medium- and long-term. At the same time, it is a process that will invite you to be vulnerable and to (re)discover yourself.
Even though, I am officially only 3 months in my term, I dare to say that it is the most powerful experience I have lived in AIESEC. Even though, every MCP experience is different, these are things you might expect once you get elected:
I hope these words scare you (at least a little bit). Because it is scary to step up and put yourself out there: to show who you really are and what you stand for. It is scary to bear the responsibility of leading a team of very different backgrounds and expertises, to lead an entity with 300 members and to have the power and responsibility to make an impact to over a 1000 young people. And all of this in your twenties.
Not learning is not an option. Being MCP offers an amazing learning curve as every day you will be facing opportunities to learn and develop. As MCP you will be facing challenges you have never expected you’d face. As MCP, you are the ultimate role model and you have the power to shape your team and an entire entity. Your experience will be a rollercoaster - with good and bad days and you will live through all types of emotions. You will experience -and break - your limits and discover what you are capable of.
So, yes, if someone would ask me if I would recommend this experience and if I would do it again, this would be a “HELL YES!” I wish you all the best in this application process; and that you’ll enjoy the process of discovering who you are, what you stand for and what you want to bring to the entity. Put all of you in it and I’m sure you won’t regret it!
