A Message from… “Hey Thunderpups, it's your club president Lizelle! For this month of April, we've had members participate in several events such as our Kiwanis' One Day project Lanterman Home and Peace in the Northeast. Although we are small group, I'm so happy to see our dedicated members out there doing what they love! I can't wait to see everyone else attend our future events! Let's keep on howling everyone and have many more awesome months filled with SPIRIT and SERVICE!”

“Hey everyone, this is your bulletin editor Aja here! The month of April has been a blast with our members volunteering at some of the events we’ve had, such as Lanterman Home and the Peace in the Northeast March! From what our members have said about these past events, they seemed exciting to take part in and help out! I know the next month of May will be packed full of service and excitement, so be ready Thunderpups, because you’ll be howlin’ with service, too!”

Articles “On the 18th of April, I attended the 8th Annual Peace in the Northeast East March! Even though I did not personally march, we did manage to help set up the resource fair in Sycamore Park! We walked to Sycamore with a former Key Club member Jeffrey Ingcoco and we started to help out in the Kids Section right away! At first we met with Yvonne the person in charge and she introduced us to our tasks! We began to set up the materials for all the children who were going to come tired yet excited from marching for Peace! We were to eager to help all the kids express their artistic talents and enjoy the rest of their day painting and decorating arts and crafts! I was in charge of helping all the kids who wanted to decorate wooded crafts including miniature birdhouses, houses, name plates, treasure chests and much more! So after we set up the materials and tables, I painted and decorated a sample of my own to inspire the kids! Despite my lack of artistic ability, I was able create a pretty cool birdhouse! And after about an hour, the people and kids began to march in and enter the kids area. So we asked every child what they wanted to paint and then gave them the paint and brushes to create their own masterpiece! We would just help monitor the paint and keep the tables working smoothly! I was amazed by the work most of the children produced! It was also really awesome seeing every child paint a happy scenario and reveal their artistic potential! After the resource fair was over, we helped take down and clean up the kids section. We washed the paint brushes and took down the banner! After that we helped remove the chairs and ropes from the booth. Overall Peace in the Northeast was a Great Experience, it was really exciting seeing the community come together and promote peace! Also working with the children was great because it was easier to talk to them and motivate them! I would recommend other members to come to this Annual Event and directly help out the community!

Member of the Month Christina Sim
April 2015
“Our well-deserved “Thunderpup of the Month” for April goes to Christina Sim! As a sophomore, she expresses her love for Key Club and helping others in any way she can. She attends service events regularly and also finds new ways to help the community around her. For example, in the month of April alone, she donated more than thirty children’s books to the club. With the aid of Ms. Harada, all of Christina’s books were able to find a happy home in local elementary schools, including Buchanan and Yorkdale. Along with her awesome book donation, Christina volunteered at our annual Lanterman Home event. It was also our Kiwanis One Day with our club’s sponsor, La Canada Kiwanis. During this event, Christina helped around the Lanterman garden in every possible way. This included picking oranges, planting new crops, raking leaves, and much more. Throughout the entire day, she was eager to assist other members along with other Kiwanis to beautify and maintain the wonderful garden in great condition. Christina shows massive pride to be a Key Clubber, looking for new ways to serve and create a friendly environment for everyone in her community! Who knows what she has in store for this whole term!”

Officer of the Month “Our Officer of the Month for the month of April is our Secretary, Faith Sy! As a sophomore, she was eager to expand her Key Club experience by taking office. Even though being Secretary is very complex and requires a lot of time, Faith has managed to keep the club moving smoothly and organized. However, she continues to be an active member in the club and regularly attends service events. For the month of April, she attended our Kiwanis One Day Lanterman Home! At this event, Faith was always busy and helping with the Kiwanis around the garden. She assisted in planting several types of crops including peppers, tomatoes, and also in picking oranges. Then after a while, Faith helped rake tons of leaves and carried them off in the wheelbarrow to help the plants grow and produce. She also is in every club meeting taking attendance, passing out sign-up sheets, and keeping track of everything happening in our club. She also has the service hours ready for members and other board officials. Overall, the club runs so smoothly thanks to Faith and her organization skills. She helps create a wonderful Key Club experience for everyone! Thank you, Thunderpup!
