A Message from Our… Lizelle Oreno - President ‘Hello Thunderpups! I hope you are all enjoying your summer! Although the new school year is coming fast, and we will be busy with our academics, don’t forget that service never ends! For this past month we have had our weekly event at Braille on Thursdays, and ongoing events such as collecting can tabs for our local Ronald McDonald House, getting free rice to countries that need it the most. Aside from that, we have had members go to the Region 7 Beach Clean Up, and we also had a joint event with Eagle Rock Key Club at the Pasadena Ronald McDonald House. If you weren’t able to come to any of these events this month, don’t worry! We have more plans for August for you to volunteer! I hope all of you enjoy the remainder of your summer and hope to see you all very soon!”

Aja Archuleta - Bulletin Editor “Hey everybody, how has your summer been so far? Hopefully full of service and relaxation! I’m glad that you guys have been attending some of the wonderful events we’ve had this month, such as the Class of 80s Reunion, as well as our Kiwanis Meetings and Braille trips! If you weren’t able to attend any events this month, don’t worry, because we have ongoing events as well, like collecting can tabs, free rice, and box tops. And yes, although school is coming up quickly and will be busy for us, we will still serve to our hearts’ desires! There will be many members, old and new, that will keep the Key Club spirit strong! But for now, please enjoy the rest of your summer vacations, and remember to keep on serving, Thunderpups!”

Articles “Hey guys! It's been awhile since I've written an article, and now here I am with a report about my time volunteering this summer. I've been to one Kiwanis Meeting and it was a fun time. All the Kiwanis members gave me a warm welcome. Also, there was a presentation about scamming, and I learned how to not get scammed through the phone and computer. This is why you shouldn't talk to strangers; you get deceived by bad people. On July 9th and 16th, two Key Club members and I volunteered at Braille. We organized audio tapes by lowest number to highest, and then we slipped an address card on the tapes so the tapes would be delivered to whoever, who ordered them. After that event, we got Subway. On July 11th, it was FHS’ Class of 80s Reunion. Key Club was selling old prom photos and programs, and there were other clubs selling their merchandises. I've seen people coming up to our booth and bought some photos for themselves and their relatives/friends. I also met our new principal (did you know she's an FHS alumni?)!!! Seeing many alumnus at FHS made me realize that Franklin is an incredibly old school. I hope there will be another reunion, and hopefully it'll be better than or the same as the recent one. Also, I do recommend our members, who haven't been to any Braille and MTG events before, to come at least once. Anyways, I would like to go to Braille again, so whoever's going I'll see you there!”

Member of the Month Month of July

Brennon Sao!

The “Member of the Month” award for July goes to none other than Brennon Sao! As a rising senior, Brennon has been part of Key Club for almost four consecutive years! Each year striving to improve his Key Club experience, he seeks to volunteer in any possible community service event. For the month of July, Brennon started off by attending Franklin’s 80s Reunion. During this event, Brennon, along with four other Key Club members, helped sell and auction off memorabilia of the 80s classes! He helped make sure everything was in order and ready for any Franklin alumni! He made the experience great for everyone attending the event. Working from 2 to 10, Brennon was the last person to leave the event! He helped package all the memorabilia and clothing items into storage. Thanks to Brennon and the other Key Clubbers, the 80s Reunion worked out extremely well and was highly successful. We know Brennon has a passion for the club, and despite his senior responsibilities and class schedules, he will try his best to improve his own and other members’ Key Club experience. Thank you Brennon for your hard work! Rock on!

Officer of the Month Month of July

Van Lau!

Our “Officer of the Month” for the Month of July belongs to our Historian Van Lau! As an upcoming junior and closing in on summer vacation, Van is taking absolute advantage of all the volunteer opportunities our club has to offer this summer. Kicking off the month of July, she volunteered at Franklin’s 80s Reunion. During this event, members interact and help make the alumni feel welcomed and enjoy their time. Along with four members, Van helped sell and auction off the 80s classes’ memorabilia. To continue serving her community, she volunteered at Braille twice during the month. During the majority of this event, volunteers helped organize and categorize audio tapes to be shipped out for the visually impaired. She also attended a Kiwanis meeting during July! Although it was a relatively early event, Van still decided to attend! At this event, members have the opportunity to interact with the Kiwanis while learning about new things and techniques Kiwanis use to manage the meetings and events. Thanks to Van, we also have the opportunity to have photos resembling our community service events! Thank you Van! Go Thunderpup!
