Message from Our… President - Jeffrey Fernandez Hello Thunderpups! This is your club president, Jeffrey Fernandez, wanting to say thank you to all the many and many people who have attended our club meetings recently. I'm very glad to see many freshmen who are willing to make a difference in their community by joining our club and attending events. I hope to see everyone in our club become better human beings and grow to understand the true meaning of what key club is through their own and unique experiences. We have so many upcoming events that are around the corner such as Region Training Conference, Duck Splash, and Aids Walk which I hope you can all attend!

Bulletin Editor - Aja Archuleta Welcome back to school, Thunderpups! Let’s welcome our new members this year with open arms! I’m very thankful for all of the people who were at our first few Key Club meetings, whether they were newbies to our club, or past members. We all filled up the room to the point where some people had to stand! Anyways, I hope all of you who attended our meetings are looking forward to what this newsletter has. From articles to member of the month, I hope you all enjoy our newsletter this month and the following months. Keep howlin’ with service!

Articles Carlos Solano “The Summer Festival was held on August 23rd and was held at St. Ignacius Church. At the event we helped the games and stands with all the people that attended the festival. Although it was hot, it was really fun interacting with the community of Highland Park. Helping all the little kids with the games and handing them prizes was the most fun. With enough luck you were able to work at the dunk tank and let people pitch balls at a target to drop you in the cool water. After your shift you were able to hang around and play the games for yourself. If you weren't in the mood there was also food, music, and dancing. The festival was just fun and a really happy environment. All in all, it was a great event and I will be attending next year if given the opportunity.

Summer Festival Marvin Fernandez “My experience at the Summer Festival at St. Ignacius Church was very exciting and fun. I had a great time helping out many of the kids playing at the game booth. Not only do you have the opportunity to help out the adults, but you also get the chance to meet new friends. I would definitely recommend going to the events and helping out, it's a fun experience and you won't regret it. Don't be scared to go to events. Sure, it will be awkward your first time but once you start being active and social, you will meet new friends and you would start to enjoying every single moment.

Gabriel Tatlonghari “The Summer Festival took place last Sunday at St. Ignacius Church. It was a fun event and I got the chance to meet the Eagle Rock Key Club vice president. At the event our task was to either patrol the festival, check-in volunteers, or manage the games. I got to both check-in volunteers and manage games. As usual it was great to serve other people and put smiles on their faces. At the event there was a lot of diversity in cultures. There was a variety of foods such as Mexican and Filipino foods. It was a hot day but Mr. Keifer provided us with refreshments and tickets for food, which was real kind of him. Overall the event was a success, we did our job and served to put smiles on people’s faces.”

Member of

the Month Eliel Granados — August 2014

Our Thunderpup for the month of August is Eliel Granados! He is currently a sophomore and is a new member in our club! Eliel is closely connected to our community, that joining our club will let him embrace it more and will let him develop good qualities later used in life. Eliel is ready for all the fun filled and hardworking events this club has to offer him! This month, the first event he’s attended is the Summer Festival at a church nearby, St. Ignatius. At the event he was seen having fun being at the dunk tank where he was assigned. He got to see how people were dropped into the water and assisted in any way he can to the helpers with the dunk tank. Seeing other people enjoying made him happy as well. If he thought this event was fun, he’d have a blast with all the other upcoming events planned out for the club!

Officer of

the Month Aja Archuleta — August 2014

Our officer of the month for August is our bulletin editor Aja Archuleta! She is currently a sophomore and is pumped up for this year! Aja is very diligent in making our newsletters fun to read so other members can see how much the club has done. When we had our very first meeting this month, she was happy to see how many people were willing to join! This month she attended the Summer Festival, which was held at the St. Ignatius Church. At the event, Aja was ready for whatever task was given to her. She was in charge of the game booth and helped set it up. Aja also aided all the other new members on what to do at their first event. They followed what she said as well as what the other Kiwanis’ said. There are more upcoming events that Aja is anticipating for and is ready to see all our members’ happy faces!
