A Message from Our… “Hello Thunderpups! The month of December was an extremely busy month full of service events such as the Holiday Parade, Rose Float Decoration, Braille, and Special Lunch-In! All of these events were so much fun and I'm glad our club was given the great opportunity to be able to do so much during the month of December! As the busy month of December ends, the busyness continues into the month of January as we are starting to talk about the super amazing DCON, club elections, and many other events! Thanks to everyone who help make the month of December a great month full of service and spirit and let's do the same and even better for the month of January! See you all later and Happy New Year! 2014 was fun but 2015 will be much much better!”

! — Jeffrey Fernandez President

“Hey guys, hope you all had an exciting winter break so far, and I would also like to say that December has been a success in terms of events! I’d like to thank those who have found time to volunteer even with school being over during the break. And to those who couldn’t attend our events this month, no worries, because next year will be full of amazing events, such as Conclave, DCON, and many more! I know next year will be a great one, filled with limitless spirit and service. So let’s start of the new year by making the month of January the best yet! I wish you all a happy new year of 2015! And remember, never stop howlin’ with spirit!”

Rose Float Decorating “Well my experience at the Rose Float decorating event was very fast paced and exciting. From the moment I arrived I was ordered by a man whose name I don't recall to help give incoming volunteers T-Shirts and if we were to run out of shirts we would go and grab a box of whatever size needed and resupply ourselves for the next wave of volunteers. As the day progressed I was moved to a section where we were asked if we were afraid of heights I had replied yes and then I was told to sit at a table and cut flowers. But after lunchtime had passed my friends Tina, Aja, and I were asked the same question, but this time we answered no. So we worked on top of a vegetable themed float for the remainder of the day gluing beans to float giving the details that were needed and just having fun doing so. Now what did I enjoy the most about this event? It was being able to help decorate the floats and talking to other people I knew and didn't know and overall just having fun.” - Steve Carbajal

Articles Rose Float Decorating “My experience at the Rose Bowl Float Decorating was overall pretty good. When I first got to the venue, I was given a free T-shirt and was told to cut flower petals. Although cutting the flower petals was quite a tedious job and made my hands cold and numb, it was fun because I was able to continuously talk to my friends for a long time. When my friends and I were done cutting the flower petals we then went up to the floats to decorate them. I am not going to lie that being on top of the float was not at all scary because it truly was, but that fear was quickly forgotten as I was decorating the float with beans. On top of the float, my friends and I were able to converse with and become acquainted with other key clubbers that were also on the float with us. And what made my experience even better was the food that was being served. On top of being free, the food was quite delicious. Although I was “working” it did not feel like so especially because I was with and doing the work with my friends. What I especially liked about the event was that overall atmosphere was very positive, so that made me feel positive too and more eager to help. I would definitely recommend going to this event if there are people who are contemplating whether or not they should go next year.” - Christina Sim

Rose Float Decorating “This was my first year going to the Rose Float Decorating. I highly anticipated this event because my good friend Van Lau recommended me to go. I was happy to get a nice free Kiwanis shirt when I walked in. I met so many new people from different schools, and spotted some that I've met before. At first we cut flowers for a while, but luckily I was able to actually work on a float itself. I am definitely afraid of heights but I don't regret offering my assistance on the top part of the float as it was a new experience for me. We were then offered free hamburgers that were so delicious I ran back for seconds! This experience at the Rose Float Decorating was really fun and I recommend anyone to participate in this event. I found it interesting how much tedious work it takes to perfect every single part of each float and now. I’m more appreciative of them and the effort everyone puts into these floats. I am hoping to go back next year, hopefully with more of our own members!” - Faith Sy

Articles La Cañada Kiwanis Lunch-In “During winter break, I had the great opportunity with our sponsoring club's Kiwanis club which is the La Cańada AM Club to host the International President of Kiwanis, John Button! At the special lunch-in we got to hear the very moving and informational speech by John Button about his personal life and also how it is connected to him becoming a Kiwanis member and the K.U.R.E. project and the positive outcomes it provides to those in developing countries. We heard how he and his wife visited parts of Africa and witnessed the direct impact of supporting maternal neonatal tetanus which helps prevent mothers and children in getting this very horrid disease. During the event, we got to see many of our Kiwanis and also other Kiwanis members from other clubs as well! This was such an amazing and special event that I am really glad I attended because not only did I get the great privilege to meet the International President of Kiwanis, John Button but I also got to meet International President of Circle K, Kathy Le and also International President of Key Club, Maria Palazzolo! This was very unexpected and I am speechless still on how I met 3 International Presidents of different branches of Key Club in just one day!” - Jeffrey Fernandez

Member of the Month Month of December Van Lau

Our member of the month for December is Van Lau! Van is currently a sophomore and is always eager to go events! She loves seeing the smiles of other people’s faces. Van can be quiet at first but when she’s pumped up, you can’t stop her! During this month she’s participated in the North East LA Parade, and also the Rose Parade Float Decorating. When the club was in need of volunteers for announcing in the parade, she was willing to come out and help and sacrifice her time to be trained. At the parade she was constantly keeping track of the participants in the parade and helped the other announcers working with her. At the Rose Float Decorating, she along with other key clubbers woke up very early on a weekend to decorate. Her diligence is shown as she arrives there early and also sacrificing a day especially on a weekend. Van is always ready to volunteer. We know this upcoming year will give her more opportunities to more events and she will continue howling for service!

Officer of the Month Month of December Brennon Sao

Our officer of the month for December is our secretary, Brennon Sao! He is currently a junior and has lots of fun helping others. Brennon is very kind and will always put his absolute best in any task given to him. This month he has attended Braille, our Rose Parade Float Decorating, and the Special Lunch for La Cañada Kiwanis. At Braille, he was one of the only two people who were able to attend. He loves going to Braille and wouldn’t miss it. While most people were busy for the holidays, he was willing to volunteer. Brennon was very focused in stacking the audiotapes and taking out cards, while showing kindness to those around him. Decorating for the Rose Parade is always a very hectic event, but Brennon was able to manage. He spent the whole day decorating with other key clubbers and had a great time. At the Special Lunch-In for La Cañada Kiwanis, he was very helpful in putting signs and banners for the event. Seeing and meeting all the Kiwanis made him smile. We know this next year will be filled with more service events and Brennon will be prepared for anything in his way!
