Message From Our… President - Jeffrey Fernandez

!

“Hello Thunderpups! The month of January was a month full of service and division events such as Conclave, Region 7 Winter Olympics, Meals On Wheels, and Conclave Part II! All of these events were so much fun and I'm glad our club was given the great opportunity to be able to do so much during the month of January! We will also have many other opportunities to attend events that our division leadership team is currently deciding on which will be much fun! As January ends, the month of February starts by our club starting to talk about club elections! Hopefully by early February is when we will have elected new club elects for Key Club positions! See you all later and I hope all of you run for any Key Club position in order to add to your already awesome Key Club experience!”

I hope you’re all looking forward to what February has in store for our club. I think you guys will love our Spaghetti Night, as well as our D3S Hike! Not only that, but we have club elections coming up, as well as 2 new members stepping up and running for a position! Hopefully you guys can attend our meeting on the 4th to witness our candidates’ speeches, and congratulate them when the officers have been chosen. Well, that’s all for now Thunderpups. So remember to keep howlin’ for service!”

Articles Ruben Anguiano - Meals on Wheels

!

“On A Saturday I attended Meals on Wheels with Ms. Harada! I got to school by 8 am and we went directly to Meals on Wheels which was located by St. Vincent's Hospital. If you did not know, Meals on Wheels, provides senior citizens with hot meals throughout the day. As soon as we got there we began rolling up lunch bags and storing them in a box. Then we waited a bit to begin packing the afternoon lunches. They way the meals works looks like an assembly line. One person puts bread on the tray, the other does fruit, and each person has their own job. Basically what I did as a new volunteer, I restocked the bread and fruit trays so the people in the assembly line never ran out. You would also make life more easily for the people placing food items by making the items mote accessible to them and easy to pick up. After all the hot meals were packed, we cleaned and organized a box of all the trays. And then we were done for day. It was honestly a really fun experience volunteering at Meals on Wheels. You got to talk and meet new people who like to volunteer and serve just like yourself! We learned about the huge impact this organization has on the community. Meals on Wheels is a great opportunity to help your community! I encourage everyone to attend!”

Aja Archuleta - Conclave Pt. 1

!

“On January 10th, I attended Division 3 South’s Conclave Pt. 1, which is an election held for the position of LTG! Even though it was slightly cloudy and raining in the morning, I was still very excited to attend and prepared early. I went to Conclave with Jeffrey, his brother Mark, and Edward. Once we arrived at the Glendale Central Library, we entered our reserved room for the event and saw many familiar smiling faces. As we chatted with a few other members, it was time for the candidates speeches. We heard the 2 candidates Alex (3N) and Raymart (3S) recite their speeches, and they were interesting and positively great! Then it was time to vote. Jeffrey made me and him delegates for Benjamin Franklin, and discussed our decision with Mark and Dustin, who also attended the event. Once all the votes were cashed in, Arbyn and Angela revealed the next LTG’s of 3 North and South. And 3 North’s News Editor Alex Sarkissian was elected as their new LTG! Unfortunately, the majority vote for 3 South was “no confidence” for Raymart, but this lead to the second part of Conclave, which would be held before the Region 7 Winter Olympics. Overall, I enjoyed my first Conclave as an officer, and would definitely recommend anyone, whether they are a member or officer, to attend this event in order to experience how our LTG is elected, and what it takes to be an LTG.”

Member of the Month Dustin TRan !

“Our Thunderpup of the month for January is Dustin Tran! Dustin is currently a senior, and is very supportive of Key Club after all of the many activities he is busy with being his last year of high school! Being in this club for all his high school life has made him grow into a wonderful person with many great qualities of a leader. He loves being around people and making them happy. For the month of January, he has attended our division’s Conclave. At Conclave, he was seen as very attentive in the meeting and was supportive our Division and all the other members. We appreciate him for being there to represent for our club! Dustin has excelled in Key Club, and currently the only senior in our club! As the term is ending and graduation is just around the corner, he is excited to attending DCON in March! At DCON he will be able to celebrate his final year and enjoy it with the many members in our club! Keep on howling, Dustin!”

Officer of the Month Ruben Anguiano !

“Our officer of the month for January is our treasurer, Ruben Anguiano! He is currently a sophomore and loves seeing others smile! Ruben does his best to come up with new ideas and fundraising, and our regular nacho sale is always a best seller! For this month, he has volunteered in Meals on Wheels. At Meals on Wheels, he was very kind to go by himself with our club advisor, Ms. Harada on a Saturday. As he was helping the leaders get the food ready, he felt very uplifting and rewarding. Seeing the smiles on the people’s faces in the houses made him feel good. For this month, we also had our very successful nacho sale. Ruben is always eager to have nacho sales and being able to fundraise more money for the organizations that we donate to. We hope he will continue to cherish Key Club and grow more as a leader developing great skills and qualities.”

Club Elections Election Time! That’s right guys, the time has finally come to elect our new officers for the new term. And please don’t be sad that the current board will be stepping down soon; we’ll still be here! Club elections are important for the club’s members because it gives them an opportunity to serve their club in certain ways that only officers can, such as leading our club, keeping track of everyone’s hours, handling donations, cataloging service events, and of course, writing and editing our newsletter! Our club will be having our elections on February 4th in Room 536 during lunch, so if you do plan on attending, don’t miss out! You can take part and vote for our candidates for the new board as well! Speaking of voting, in order to vote, you must be a paid dues member. And you can determine your vote for each candidate by listening to each of their speeches. Each speech is about 1-2 minutes, so make sure you know who you’re voting for and why! Our club has a total of 5 candidates running for a

Benjamin Franklin Elections

position or two so far. If you wish to know who they are before the day of the elections, check out their pictures on the next page! That way, you can at least know the candidates’ names before voting! Some of them may look familiar, while others may be new to the elections. Either way, let’s wish them good luck!
