POLITICS MAGNATES FOR MAYOR?

This past week saw two of the biggest names in their respective industries in Philadelphia throw their names in the ring to be the city’s next mayor in 2023.
Their names are Allan Domb and Jeff Brown, and they’ve seen immense success during their times in the real estate and grocery industries, respectively.
Before Domb sat on Philadelphia City Council for seven years as an at-large councilmember, he built a real estate empire that led him to be known as the city’s ‘Condo King.’
Brown has no political experience, but he hopes that can be used to his advantage alongside his experience running Brown’s Super Stores, Inc., which operates a number of local ShopRite and Fresh Grocer stores in Philadelphia and the surrounding area. He doesn’t have Domb’s capital base on the surface, but his 12 locations are nothing to bat an eye at.
Income comparisons aside, both Domb and Brown are leaders in their respective industries and got there by different means. These journeys are a major reason why both think they make good candidates to be the next Philadelphia mayor.
THE CONDO KING
Domb, born Michael Allan Domb in Jersey City in 1955, the now-’Condo King’ was once a locksmith before he discovered the real estate program at Temple University, and as the Philadelphia Inquirer wrote, “found his calling.”
Not long after Domb graduated from Temple, he founded his own brokerage firm and climbed the real estate ladder throughout the 1980s to eventually become not just the biggest in the City of Brotherly Love, but the entire country by 1987. That year, Domb was recognized by the National Association of Realtors as the top residential salesperson in the country, and completed some 300 purchases that would be valued at close to $100 million in 2022. These days, with a lot of the holdings in and around Center City hotspots like Rittenhouse Square, the value is definitively much higher even though Domb has never disclosed.

“It’s not about rhetoric. It’s about solving real problems,” Domb said at his announcement press conference.

THE NEIGHBORHOOD GROCER
When it comes to Brown, the path to success starts in the family. He is a fourth generation grocer, and has prided his running of Brown’s Super Stores in the Philadelphia area on the fact that many of the locations he operates are in lowmobiliaria a lo largo de la década de los ochenta hasta convertirse no solo en el más grande de la Ciudad del Amor Fraterno, sino de todo el país, en 1987.
