" -FUUFS GSPN ZPVS 7JDF 1SFTJEFOU The 2016 - 2017 term will be a very productive and amazing year. I hope that we will be able to recruit more members, complete more hours, and accumulate more funds for PTP and other organizations. We want to expand our club and popularize the concept of “Key Club even more so that others can participate in helping the community and the world. Our club has grown stronger as a whole, and our communication, initiative, and enthusiasm have significantly increased. I am confident that we will accomplish many things during this term, where division 15 and Key Club as a whole will be even more vigorous.

40.& 803%4 '30. :063 5SFBTVSFS This officer term I am looking forward to the recruitment of several new members and unforgettable memories we will create with them at our service and social events. I hope to hold numerous successful fundraisers that will help support our club, as well as donations toward the Pediatric Trauma Program. This term alone, we have already had many successful service events, which include concerts in the park, the region 13 beach cleanup, and making dog toys for the local animal shelter at our division’s August DCM. In addition, at the most recent DCM we were awarded 3rd place for our efforts toward Swag Points that we have earned for the month due to the hard work of our club officers, in which I am extremely grateful for.

Region 13 Beach Bonanza took place on August 6 at Santa Monica Beach. There, the clubbers participated in Olympic Games, beach activities, and collaborated with the Elephants, Seals, Green Turtles, and Blue Turtles. An ice breaker that was led by our division EA, Dylan Pelayo , was called “My Friendly Neighbor.” To start the ice breaker activity, the group starts off in a circle, where someone had to say something someone else had, and then those people had to run around and tried to fill a spot. The last person to try to find a spot has to go in the middle of the crowd and introduce themselves as well as share a hobby they enjoy. After ice breakers, the region was divided into teams for the Olympic Games, where groups chose their team names and created chants. Then the groups got into the first game, in which members held hands in a circle and keep them linked together as a hula hoop was passed around the circle by putting their bodies through it. The next game involved two representatives from each team, who competed in a three - legged race. The last game required team effort, as each group built sandcastles using their creativity. Once the sandcastles were built, each team “sold” the masterpieces to the Kiwanians, so they could select the winners. Finally, the clubbers dispersed onto the beach to pick up various forms of trash, such as wrappers, pieces of plastic, straws, paper, etc., to dispose of them in the designated area. “The Region 13 Beach Bonanza is definitely an event I will not forget! We started off with ice breakers and moved onto our Olympic Games. It was great to meet the people on our teams from the other divisions. After our Olympic Games we began our beach cleanup, which went on for about an hour. Lastly we got to hang out with our friends on the beach for the rest of the time. Hopefully we will have another Santa Monica beach trip next summer!” Caitlyn Diaz exclaims.

August’s Division Council Meeting included a service portion, where the division made dog toys out of old t-shirt contributions and cards for a children’s hospital. The division was divided into two groups, where one group created the hospital cards and the other made the dog toys. The cards were filled with cute, warming messages and some even included lollipops. The dog toys were created by cutting the t-shirts into strips, which were then braided. Then after created three total braids, a big, braid consisting of braids was compiled. “It was an enjoyable evening with our fellow giraffes to be creating dog toys and cards. I think the best part of going to division events / dcm’s is seeing people work together, even though they may have not known each other prior to that day. It’s also nice to meet new people from the other clubs, who may eventually become close friends. This just goes to show how our Key Club truly promotes inclusiveness,” Regina Tambunan says.
