As well as the main stage talks, some individual exhibitors will have talks and presentations on their stands. Over at Raymarine on 21 September, for example, Harry Dwyer will be the guest speaker at 3pm (stand J385). Known for his quirky and innovative style of YouTube videos, Harry introduces boating, engineering and design projects via his channel to over 105k followers. His videos have already amassed millions of views.
Mayflower Park is home to the biggest brands, Ocean Hall, Guinness Bar, Borrow A Boat Quarterdeck Bar & Restaurant, live entertainment and, of course, access to theBorrowmarina.ABoat returns to the Southampton Boat Show following their busiest-ever sailing season, with more than 4,500 people taking to the water this summer. They will take over the Quarterdeck Bar which will be renamed the Borrow A Boat Quarterdeck Bar & Restaurant.
Located right above the pontoons, it will offer a relaxed environment and plenty of seating overlooking the marina. With over 50m of open decked balcony and seating, it is the perfect base for the day, and an ideal meeting point for family and friends.
The marina can be entered via Mayflower Park and is free to access for all show visitors. Hundreds of craft will be available to view here, including global, European and UK launches of yachts, RIBs, motor and day boats. For serious boat buyers, there is the opportunity to request an appointment with preferred manufacturer(s) to ensure dedicated time to discuss boat plans.

Yamaha will be displaying an extensive range of products on and off the water at this year’s show including its flagship XTO 425hp V8. MR: We are expecting over 650 craft on display at the show, on land and in the purpose-built marina. The majority of the boats displayed on land arrive by road. Obviously, we have to be mindful of the local traffic and manage their arrival at show to ensure everyone does not arrive at the same time. Once on site we provide an experienced team to support boat lifting to keep things running as smoothly as possible.

MR: We have such a wonderful and diverse industry we are continually looking to provide new and exciting opportunities for our members to connect with a variety of audiences.
MR: Yes, I am HUGE fan of sport in general. I am currently on my way to Lords to watch Somerset CCC play cricket and I follow AFC Bournemouth and Bath Rugby. I am also training for the London Marathon on 2 October, which will be my third marathon and one I am aiming to raise £2,000 for Barnardo Children’s Charity.

Q There must be some funny behind the scenes stories from earlier shows – can you share any?
MR: The Southampton International Boat Show takes place in the centre of the fantastic city of Southampton and whilst a city centre location offers wonderful transport, accommodation, bars, restaurants, entertainment and connectivity it also presents severalThesechallenges.challenges include securing the show. We have 24hr security personnel and various forms of technology protecting more than 2,000m of perimeter on land as well as working with the port and ferry operators to keep traffic moving through the city during the show. And, of course, there are the challenges of having to build, deliver and breakdown an event whilst being sensitive to our neighbours and the local residents of Southampton. It takes 30 days to set up and take down the show in total.
MR: Firstly, visitors can expect to see more boats than at both the 2019 and 2021 shows. We have also increased the number of opportunities for visitors to get out on the water including Get-A-Float with Rockley Watersports and Try-a-Boat in partnership with Flexisail. And, of course, our brand-new VIP experience, the Quayside Club overlooking the marina offering a selection of unique packages so visitors can add a little extra to their visit. We have made some significant changes to the show over the last three years, and this year will be about continuing to build and evolve the show.
In addition, my team and I are responsible for the British Marine Member presence at the Monaco Yacht Show, METSTRADE, Boot Dusseldorf, Miami International Boat Show and a handful of other UK events.
We heard a rumor that away from boating you are a bit of a fan of football, so which team do you follow?
MR: Yes and no! There are hundreds of funny stories from behind the scenes, but probably only suitable with a drink in the Guinness Bar…
MR: There is going to be lots to see at this year’s show, however for me personally, I am looking forward to the return of Ribeye, who are back with their biggest stand in years, located next to our new VIP area in the Solent Park. I am also looking forward to taking a look at the Arksen 85 and Archipelago 47 adventure yacht, which are both new to the show. Our new Try a Boat line-up, in partnership with Flexisail, is something I am looking forward to seeing come together too. But when you work on a show of this size and scale, I genuinely look forward to seeing it all.

Whilst British-built and designed yachts are prevalent, there is also a strong international presence bringing together yachts from manufacturers worldwide. Making its show debut is the French-designed and built Dufour 32, alongside the Dufour 390 and larger Dufour 430, whilst Jeanneau will reveal for the first time in the UK the Sun Odyssey 380, alongside Sun Odyssey 410, 440 and 490 with the racy Sun Fast 3300. Also from France, Beneteau yachts will have the UK debut of the Oceanis 34.1, alongside the Oceanis 30.1.

Fairline marks the launch of its F//LINE 33 Outboard at Southampton, the company’s first outboard model in recent times, which will be on display with the Targa 45 OPEN, Targa 45 GT, Targa 50 GT, Squadron 50 and Squadron 68.
Lastly, from Sweden will be the latest in designs from Arcona, Najad and Hallberg-Rassy, with X-Yachts from Denmark, Bavaria yachts from Germany and Galeon from Poland too.
Another world debut comes from British yacht builders Cockwells launching the Duchy 35. Combining the classic lines of the gentleman’s launch of generations past with modern styling and on board luxury the Duchy range is equally at home on lakes, canals or cruising the open sea.

A familiar sight at Southampton, Sunseeker will be displaying a range of models from 55 - 95ft, with the Predator 65 making her UK debut at the show. Princess Yachts, meanwhile, will have seven models on display from the Y72 to the F45. Star of the line-up is the new F65, making her world premiere at the show.
For those looking for their first foray into powerboating, Wills Marine has a range of great value, small and sporty entry-level powerboats including the sub 5m Sting 485 and slightly bigger Sting 530. Working up in size, there is the 6m Nordkapp Avant 605, and the first UK showing of Nordkapp’s Enduro 805 day and overnight cruiser, spacious overnight cruiser Noblesse 720 and sturdy aluminium-hulled Avant 705Salt-waterRS. fishing enthusiasts will be drawn to the Boston Whaler range, with Dorset Yacht Company showing the centre console 220 Dauntless. Even if you live a fair distance away from water, Boats on Wheels has the solution with the Astus trailable 22.5 trimaran and Viko S1 trailer sailer range of yachts. Buying a dinghy is often the first stage in a sailor’s career, and there is plenty of choice with Hartley Boats, Fusion Sailboats and RS Sailing showing a number of models including the debut of the RS Toura and the new 6m rig RS Aero.

As always there is a large spectrum of craft on display; at one end the new Corby Yachts slim-line Corb Electric Slipper Yacht is just 22ft long. This all-carbon fibre, lightweight powerboat can squeeze in a crew of two and glides along at 12 knots, but can be dismantled, we are told, for easy transport and storage in under 90 seconds.
With many boats located on the water within the show marina, and even more to see on the shoreside displays, it is the perfect opportunity for visitors to step on board, compare and contrast different makes and models, and even get out on the water and have a go.

Spirit Yachts will be showcasing the Spirit 30 and the Spirit 44, which makes its worldBritish-builtdebut. and renowned for its bluewater long distance sailing abilities, the luxurious new Oyster 495 will be sitting alongside its beautiful big sister, the Oyster 595, on the pontoons, while from Ocean Shipyard comes the new generation Southerly 42.

Scottish boat Manufacturer Ultimate Boat Company is making the world debut of its high performance, high specification O Class RIB. Designed and engineered to operate as a commercial vessel for crew transfer and built to withstand the harshest environments, the model on show at Southampton has been upgraded to luxurious standards with top-of-the-range marine electronics, teak decking, insulated cabin and many other extras. The O Class will sit alongside UBC’s X-Class, also a world debut. UBC, in conjunction with parent company ExoTechnologies, is pioneering a new fully recyclable and sustainable composite material for its innovative and patented highperformance hulls.

1. Time spent reconnaissancein is rarely time wasted Spend some time researching which boats will be at the event, which ones will be there for the first time and what similar boats will be on display that you can compare your favourite with.
4. Make yourself known beforehand
Most dealers who work on a boat show stand have specific regions of the UK/ Med that they are responsible for. Some stands will have many dealers ‘on hand’ from multiple locations. Do not just chat to the first person on the stand who is available; take some time to find the right contact as you may need them later in your ownership for all sorts of things.

Video walk-throughs and boat tests are everywhere these days. Grab a coffee, open YouTube and learn as much as you can.
Do not turn up on the first day and make silly offers. Equally, do not turn up on the last day and expect to get a bargain – there might not be a lot left to choose from. So, you could visit twice – once early in the week and then again, a couple of days later to ‘close’ the deal.

Most shipyards will have a waiting list of buyers who have committed to boats for delivery in 2023/24. In amongst those slots, dealers will often have a number of ‘pre-secured” slots available, which they will be looking to fill during the show. A dealer may have a boat that matches your spec ‘in stock’. Finding the perfect boat in stock is certainly more likely as boat sizes get smaller, so ask the dealer what he has in stock, and what slots he has available for delivery next season. Specifications may vary considerably, but there will be price differences either way which may well help lead you towards the right decision.
In addition to all these products, Yamaha will have its JetBlaster® and FX Cruiser WaveRunner models, as well as a selection of YAM inflatable boats.
Buying a boat does not happen every day for most. It can be a big decision, so enjoy the process. The show has lots of bars and restaurants where you can sit back and chat through your thoughts with your loved ones, often with a rather nice view in front of you.

Top tips for buying a boat
In the show’s marina on berth M038, Yamaha will present the Premium version of its flagship Yamarin 88 Day Cruiser. With the option to be specified with the Yamaha XTO 425hp, the Yamarin Premium 88 DC has a maximum speed of 45 knots and comes with a comprehensive equipment package as standard. Joining the 88 DC are the Yamarin 67 DC and 63 DC on berths M039 and M040 respectively.
There are few shows in the world where you can test a yacht during the event. If you feel that you need to ‘try before you buy’, discuss that with the dealer. Many of them will have Open House Weekends in the days/weeks right after the show for exactly that purpose. Others may have similar models nearby that you can sea trial during the show, if you do not mind a short car journey.
Plan your day and make sure that you know the stand numbers of the boats you want to see, and when you want to see them. Pre-booking some appointments may help keep you on schedule. Perhaps book a hotel in Southampton and take two days at the show – it is very common.
7. Negotiate sensibly
If you there with the intention of making a purchase decision at the show, tell them. The dealers are there to sell, so they will be much more willing to get you the answers you need if they think there will be a deal at the end of it.

If you tell a boat dealer when you are planning to attend, there are a number of things they can do to make your day a bit easier including private viewings and introductions to other services you are going to need. They will also be able to do some research on the potential value of your part-exchange, if you have one.
You will find offers, and discounts, and things you had not thought of. Some of them might well work for you and be better in the long run than the thing you thought you were going there for.
