Clergy Letter from Revd Trish Anslow
Finally, I am going to have the first of my knee replacements! I have been for my ‘education’ session- physiotherapists allaying fears and giving me exercises to do. I have been for my preadmission session – a nursing sister and cardiologist and a phlebotomist all checking I am fit enough for the operation. There is still a fortnight to go! People have been very kind and followed my progress towards the op and have shown great interest in who my surgeon will be (Mr David Duffy). By now it is beginning to dawn on me that the surgeon is doing the ‘headline’ part of the op, but I am amassing a large team of people to get me through to next September. It seems that nothing really works without a team; Wimbledon players at the moment will tell you that they can only go out on court and play with the backing of a coach, a physio, a manager and all the grounds people at Wimbledon. Jesus built a team around him; the apostles were all from different backgrounds and would have different skills within the group. On the road there would be one who would make sure that there was somewhere to sleep each evening; one would chronicle their journey (how else would the gospels be resourced) and another would organise meals for the group. I am sure there would have been one of them known as the group jester, to revive spirits as they walk, in between listening to the Master and his wisdom.
Within our church we need team spirit to keep the ship afloat; cleaners, tea-makers, flower arrangers, greeters, singers, clergy, magazine editors, and administrator. The list is never complete because there are always more jobs than people. If you think that your church is only part of the Parish of Lower Wharfe then you will realise there is a lot of team building to do! The Parish of Lower Wharfe has been in existence for five years now (yes, where has the time gone?) and maybe it is time to turn around and find ourselves in that big parish team. Of course each church has its own needs but the parish family needs support. Can you feel part of that bigger picture; can you interest yourself in the outreach from the other churches into their community through social events? Are you brave enough to get to meet some other disciples of Christ apart from the ones you meet at your own church? This August the benefice has services in each church and it will be a wonderful opportunity for you to feel part of a larger community; to visit each church in turn and meet new people or act as a host to our other team members. Give it a try without an excuse! An open invitation to an open air event! Churches Together Open Air Service Thorp Arch Green Sunday 11th September at 3pm a short service with music followed by a cup of tea or coffee afterwards
Everyone is most welcome
IAN FREDERICK WATSON Ian died in June and his Funeral Service was held at York Crematorium, on 30th June. After the death of Ruth in 2013 he moved to York. Ian served the Parish Council for many years and more recently he worked on the Bramham archives.
Ladies of the Benefice retreat There are some things that never change! One such thing is the weather as the Ladies of the Benefice descend upon Wydale Hall. This May was no different; the rain arrived as we did and stayed with us as a constant friend. There were ten of us there and some were even brave enough to don their wet weather gear and go for a walk. Reader, I was not one of those hardy souls; I stayed indoors and enjoyed the rest. We had talks and discussions on Mary, mother of our Lord, and met each other for Morning Prayer and Holy Communion. All of that was in between being fed in true Wydale style and resting. We chatted and knitted at every opportunity and made friends with the other guests. The forty-six hours over three days passed suitably slowly and felt like a proper mini-break should feel. All this leads me to tell you that the next Ladies of the Benefice retreat has been booked at Wydale Hall,
Monday 29th May –Wednesday 31st May 2017 Now is the time to put it in next year’s diary so that it does not clash with anything else!
Revd.Trish
See you there. Thank You!
To everyone who supported All Saints’ Tea Stall and Cake Raffle at Bramham Gala. We raised £162! Special thanks to Linda Matthews, Jeanne Binns and Stewart and Yvonne Gibson for their hard work.

Sunday 7th August 11.30 -4pm Medieval Bramham at War: Battles and Burials
Join us for tours of the Church and Churchyard, and meet the re-enactors of Frei Compagnie, who will be on hand with armour, weapons and other displays of medieval life for camp followers at the time of the Battle of Bramham Moor of 1408. Stepping Stones The children had great fun making rain sticks this month (not that we need any help making rain in this country!) They decorated paper which they wrapped around the outside of an old pringles tube. We then filled the inside with coiled foil and rice, which gently trickles down when the tubes are turned. After refreshments they listened to Rev’d Jane tell the story of the Good Samaritan, and the children joined in with actions to various parts of the story, this was followed by a good old run around! At the family Service on Sunday the children showed the congregation what they had learned on Friday, and then were tasked to do some colouring related to the story. As always the children kindly helped to take up the bread, wine and water for communion. Any child is welcome to attend Stepping Stones whether or not they attend Church. It is simply a way of meeting other families in a relaxed friendly environment. We have a little break over the summer so the next session is on Friday 9 th September at 5.30pm.
The Family Service takes place at All Saints every second Sunday at 10am, all are welcome. For information please contact Jennie Saynor: jen@saynor.me.uk.

To All Bramham Residents: update from the July Meeting The Parish Council is sad to hear of the deaths of both David Evans, former Chair of the Council, and Ian Watson, former clerk, both of whom gave many years of service to the village. Our condolences go to their families and friends.
New Councillor! We are very pleased to welcome Helena Buck to the Parish Council. Helena’s enthusiasm, interest in Bramham, and considerable local government experience will be a great asset. Clerk: Having welcomed its new clerk, Keith Langley, we extend our thanks and best wishes to the outgoing clerk Marie, who has been an excellent and supportive clerk over the last 4 years. Senior Citizens’ Centre: We have received some high level costings for options for the Senior Citizens’ Centre (SCC) and will be holding a consultation in October, in the SCC where residents will be able to see what can be done, at what cost, and give us their views. Gala and scarecrow trail: Thank you to Keith Innocent and the Community Action Group for another excellent gala, and to the NSPCC committee for another fun Scarecrow Trail. And thank you to everyone who joined in with both events. Anti-social behavior and dog fouling: We are very conscious of the continued problems with anti social and possibly criminal behavior at Freely Lane, the playground and the pavilion, and continued problems with dog fouling. The police are aware and have increased patrols in the area recently. We are also consulting with them and LCC about the possible use of CCTV, as well as other anti dog fouling measures. Be safe with your door locks: The police have again advised that eurocylinder locks on most UVPC doors are very easily broken into. We are advised to upgrade to 3 star TS007 or SS312 locks, Call 101 for advice.
Next Meeting: Next meeting Wednesday 7 September, 7.30 pm, in the Pavilion. (No meeting in August but business as usual if you need to contact us) We hope you find this update useful. If you would like to read more detailed information about items discussed, the minutes of the meeting can be found on our parish notice board and on Bramham Parish Council’s official website. Bramham NSPCC News We are pleased to report a very successful weekend of combined community events which helped us to raise a further £403.45 for the NSPCC. Our ever popular Gala Barbecue accounted for £314.29. Those of you who estimated how much money was in the bottle, may be surprised to find out that there was £118.10 in 5p coins. Well done to M. Burton (junior) and Ernest Nicholls who won the prizes for their closest estimates. Thank you very much to the residents and groups whose imaginative creations made up our 3rd Scarecrow Trail. Your generosity raised £64.06 in the collection boxes. We are indebted to Steve and Sam Spencer who have generously created and donated the printed maps every year. This year, as well as the regular refreshment stop provided by the YCA in the Senior Citizens Centre, the Pavilion Committee opened up the kitchen for a couple of hours. Thank you. Our next event will be a luncheon in the Village Hall on October 12th at which our guest speaker will deliver a "talk with a difference"

Bramham Drama Group News Successful Murder Mystery Thanks to all those who supported the Murder Mystery production in July. It was a great success and enjoyed by all, especially the catering (thanks to Fiona and crew). Pantomime News and Auditions This year’s pantomime will be Snow White and the Several Dwarfs by Andrew O’Leary and will be directed by “The Christines” – Chris Wray and Christine Suddaby. The show will be performed from Weds 30th November to Saturday 3rd December, including a matinee on Saturday 3rd. Tickets will be available from mid-September from “Betty Box Office” on 07747 778536 or you can book by emailing bramhamdramagroup@gmail.com. Auditions for adults will be held on Weds 27th July, Sunday 14 th August, and Weds 17th August at 8pm in the Village Hall. You only need to come to ONE audition, not all of them!! Anyone is welcome to come along and audition for a part (I did in 1999 and am still here 17 years later!!). If you can’t attend any of the audition dates but would like to take part, please email bramhamdramagroup@gmail.com Junior Drama Group will perform in the panto, under the direction of Matt Suddaby and Aimee Wray. If your child is interested in joining the group, rehearsals will start in September – days and times to be confirmed. Please email bramhamdramagroup@gmail.com to ask for information. Back stage and general help is always needed at pantomime with tasks such as painting the scenery, publicity, costume making/finding, sound and lighting and lots more. It is always great fun and a good way to make new friends. This year we are making a special plea for help with the stage make-up. Our usual make up lady, Glen Wing, is very poorly and unlikely to be able to help so if anyone reading this could help with the stage makeup, please contact us.
