Well here we are! In that space between everything. I am writing after Jane’s last service at All Saints’ Church, Bramham and thinking of her moving to a new house and setting out in her new parish. At the same time, I am thinking of someone else who will be thinking about their move to here, even if at the time of writing we know nothing! We are going to be in limbo for a while longer- in that space between people and things we know and people and things we are yet to know! Faith is a bit like that. We have all the books of the Bible that tell of things that have happened; people who have written other books to tell of their life in Christ and then our own lives and all the memories that go with that history. We are all on a journey, on a pathway with Christ and the future is ahead of each of us, full of the unknown. These parishes in our benefice have survived many changes and seen many adaptions to modern ways of doing Church. At one time we were all individual churches with congregation who had no idea what was going on in the other places of worship -individual and insular! As we prepare for a new vicar we can show ourselves as a combined group of churches who meet together and now recognise each other. We have met this summer for benefice services each Sunday and the numbers were much higher than last year. Perhaps the prospect of time on our own has stirred us into combining our congregations for gregarious worship! In this space in our benefice’s history we need to examine our faith and the way we can keep it alive amongst ourselves. We have to take the opportunity to welcome our visiting clergy, that you will all see at least once each month, and delight in the different personalities and ways of delivering our services. We also have an even greater opportunity to join together in lay led services where your voice can be heard and your creativity in worship can be explored.

CLERGY LETTER CONTINUED………….. This is the now in our lives of faith, not merely a blank space between clergy leaders. I spoke of the people and things we knew and the things to come, but if we wait without doing we are going to be in a sorry state to greet the next chapter of our benefice life of faith and worship. For those who think that all will be miraculously bright and shiny as soon as a new vicar appears in our midst need to realise that we are the Church (capital C)! Our Christian community needs each and every one of us to flourish; leaders and members. Our future as a benefice is in the unknown part of our story but we are the authors of our journey with Christ and we can travel together in faithful harmony or we can be lost in that space in-between that can seem empty and lacking without others to share. We must walk together and make the next chapter a stirring story Rev Trish

September 2018 Update The CRIME REPORT: reported six crimes in the Parish in July & August being two of theft (Front Street and Thorner Road), one of theft from motor vehicle (Tenter Hill, front bumper and number plate), one of burglary residential (Church Hill – car keys stolen from property and used to steal the vehicle), one of burglary business & community (Back Street) and one of criminal damage (padlock to Tenter Hill allotment gates). Once again, the Police were keen to advise residents to remain vigilant with particular regard to keeping doors locked at all times, with keys kept in safe places. PLANNING ISSUES: Church Hill: Ongoing monitoring pending a planning application regarding the site. Farfield House: Permission has been refused by LCC but the developers have lodged an Appeal. The PC will attend the Appeal in September. Bramham House: a revised submission for planning permission from the developers. Councillors attended a meeting with the chief Planner at LCC to continue representations regarding objections to the plans. HIGHWAYS ISSUES: The previous meeting with Ward Councillors and LCC’s Chief Highways Officer has still not resulted in any progress on outstanding issues, so a further meeting is being requested. PAVILION: Following the successful 10K in August and Barbecue, work on the additional car spaces to help alleviate parking issues is in hand and will be completed soon. The Council are very grateful to all the volunteers who help to make these and other events such as the Saturday Kitchen so successful.

Bramham Village Hall news October 2018 Christmas Day Lunch 2018? There is a separate item in the magazine inviting residents to join us for lunch. Not everyone is confident making a phone call or might not be able to understand the invitation. If you have a relative, friend or neighbour who might wish to join us, please get in touch on their behalf You can contact Santa’s little elves by phone (07398 244634 or 01937 849455) or by email at bramhamvh@outlook.com. Can I come to help and join the lunch? We have been asked if residents who are on their own can come along to help with the preparation and share the meal, rather than just turn up to eat. Yes of course. This is a lunch for neighbours to share; the preparation, the eating and the clearing up. So, if you want some company on Christmas Day, but would prefer to help, then get in touch. This Poem should have been read at Elizabeth Bustard’s Funeral A Letter From Heaven - Ruth Ann Mahaffey To my dearest family, some things I’d like to say. But first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay. I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above. Here, there’s no more tears of sadness; Here is just eternal love. Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight. Remember that I am with you every morning, noon and night. That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through. God picked me up and hugged me and He said, I welcome you. It’s good to have you back again, you were missed while you were gone. As for your dearest family, They'll be here later on. I need you here so badly, you are part of my plan. There is so much that we can do, to help our mortal man. God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do. And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you. And when you lie in bed at night the days chores put to flight. God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night. When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years. Because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears. But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain. Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain. I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned. If I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand. But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is over. I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before. There are rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb; But together we can do it by taking one day at a time. It was always my philosophy and I’d like it for you too; That as you give unto the world, the world will give to you. If you can help somebody who is in sorrow and pain; Then you can say to God at night....My day was not in vain. And now I am contented... that my life was worthwhile. Knowing as I passed along the way I made somebody smile. So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low; Just lend a hand to pick them up, as on your way you go. Continued on page 17…….

Poem continued from page 15…. When you're walking down the street and you've got me on your mind; I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind. And when it’s time for you to go...from that body to be free. Remember you're not going...you're coming here to me.

CUB LEADER Required Do you have the energy, drive and enthusiasm to inspire future generations aged 8-10 years of age? Could you be the one who gives the encouragement that allows future generations to flourish and grow beyond their wildest dreams? Where else would you gain personal leadership experience that you can use on your CV, whilst also helping young people to reach their full potential, not to mention the possibility of meeting Bear Grylls (and who doesn't want to do that?)? This is your opportunity to offer something that really makes a difference to you, your local community and society. Giving you the chance to use your organisational skills, or love of the outdoors, or love of watching children reach their potential, or ........................you decide. Too often adults leave kayaking, climbing, camping, caving, camp fires, exploring, etc. behind - you don't need to do that any more - now you too can join in the fun! Come along and join our enthusiastic team, meet the cubs - both boys and girls - who are keen to develop and explore. Our current leaders are moving on to help run the whole of 1st Clifford and we need Cub leaders to bring inspiration and energy to our eager growing pack. WETHERBY AND DISTRICT FOODBANK The reasons why people come to the foodbank for help is varied. It is often stated that Wetherby and District is a very wealthy area, but like most towns it is not as wealthy as people make out and we do have people, the older generation who are on small pensions, brought up during and just after the war who are used to living a good healthy life on smaller amounts of plainer food than many people think is normal for today. Many of these people would possibly appreciate a little extra if we could only persuade them to get vouchers and come to the centre. This generation is very reluctant to ask for help. At the other end of the scale, there are the children who are on free school meals during term time, but during holidays don’t necessarily get a decent lunch. These children need our help. We are, therefore, always looking at ways to reach more people, which is why we have decided to open a new Distribution Centre in Boston Spa at Deepdale Community Centre. This will be led by The King’s Church and will operate every Monday morning from 10am – 12pm. As a Foodbank we are blessed by generous gifts of food and time through volunteering, we do, however, require more support financially. The financial cost of running a foodbank is small and therefore would only require 240 people to commit to donating £5 a month, that’s only £1.15 a week. If you would like to help in this way, then please visit our website wetherbyanddistrict.foodbank.org.uk and click the red donate button. For more information contact the Project Manager Claire Fleetwood 07840455725 clairefoodbank@gmail.com.

CHURCHYARD One flower pot per grave We are extremely fortunate to have a small band of people who cut the grass on a regular basis. However it is very inconvenient to have extra plant pots and ornaments on the grave plot. Another hazard is glass, this is very dangerous for the people cutting the grass, also one or two people are putting gravel near the Ashes Garth, this is dangerous for anyone using a strimmer. Please do not leave glass or gravel in the churchyard. The contents of the large sacks in the grave yard are sent for compost and other items should not be placed in these sacks. Therefore Dog excrement, glass and plastic is a major nuisance. Please take this home and place in your own dustbins.

RULES FOR THE CHURCHYARD are on the bookshelf at the back of Church.
