I am writing this letter to you all on the eve of a huge upheaval......... you will not have failed to see the notices and letters throughout the parishes........... yes! I am talking about the Gas Network’s proposal to start work in the middle of the village of Boston Spa in the near future and continue until December. Be prepared for chaos; for slow journeys to and from Tadcaster; for foot-tapping waits at temporary traffic lights and people trying to beat the system by rushing round the lanes of Clifford and Bramham. Of course, those of us in the Benefice of Bramham will take all of this impending upheaval in our strides; nothing will compare with the change to our lives brought about by the retirement of Canon Peter Bristow. How will we work out the difference his absence will make to each one of us? We are at the beginning of so many new ways to express our Christian lives in the benefice. You will have heard and read from Rev Jane and Kate of the outcomes from our meetings to examine how to Lead your Church into Growth (LyCiG)and realised that so many of you see this as an exciting way to introduce new people into some new patterns of worship and take our churches out to the people. At the same time as this is going on we have a team of people working on your behalf to advertise our benefice to a wider audience and hopefully attract the right person to be our new incumbent. Do I hear you asking, ‘What has all of this to do with me, a mere villager?’ It has everything to do with you! You are the people who are being invited to be part of our growth and our new identity.

The most important thing to remember throughout the upheaval of a vacancy is that it is not a set of roadworks with people losing time and patience. As a Christian community we must remember that when it looks as if we are stuck in front of red lights, we are given time to look around and discover those who are on this journey with us; those who would like to join us and those who are watching how we manage to keep our eyes on Christ. Jesus is our ultimate ‘incumbent’. He is still there for each and every one of us as we tread the new path. If you feel impatience for the delays and hold-ups think of our vacancy as a time to get to know your fellow travellers in Christ. It will focus us on the reason we greet each other in the peace of Christ. May your patience not run out with the Gas Board’s attempts to bring the villages to a halt; Keep Calm and Join Us! Revd Trish

July 2017 Update ....communica ng with residents LEEDS FESTIVAL TICKETS COLLECTION: The 3 sessions for collection of tickets at THE PAVILION. Sunday 20th August 4pm to 6pm, Monday 21st August 6pm to 8pm, Tuesday 22nd August 6pm to 8pm. Please bring yellow receipt to speed up proceedings. SENIOR CITIZENS CENTRE: Additional funding sources are being actively pursued and hopefully they will be available soon to enable the project to start. The intention will be to widen its use to encompass the garden and wildlife area and for all residents, not only Senior Citizens. The success of this year’s Gala was discussed, with thanks to all the CAG committee who worked so hard. The Parish Council and the CAG have now purchased a gazebo which can be used for events of both groups. The Bramham in Bloom judging event was also raised with thanks to all the hardworking volunteers who made the village look so beautiful. Grit bins will now be available on Lyndon Road and the bus shelter has finally been repaired. The improvement in the situation re dog fouling has already been noted following the recent placing around the village of new bins with the very helpful signs created by Bramham schoolchildren. As the Highways department has chosen not to act upon the results of the recent speed checks at Bramham School, the Parish Council will now ask them to review the data and to look at additional strategies for traffic calming and safe pedestrian passage. We are still trying to get Highways to arrange a meeting to look at the range of issues. PAVILION EVENTS BBQ Saturday 12th August There will also be events supported by 5 Star Sports, and a Summer Playgroup. Check the website to keep up to date with monthly charity book sales etc.

Graveyard Over the past few months several items have been placed on graves which are not allowed by the Diocesan Graveyard Regulations which govern this Saxon churchyard. An advisory list has been posted in the church notice board by the lychgate. We would be grateful if you would consult this and if in any doubt please remove the items or contact us if you have a question about anything. Glass and other breakable items such as pots are not allowed and are a danger to anybody walking or working in the churchyard. We would ask you to remove all such items if you wish to keep them as we will be clearing anything like this from the middle of July onwards. In the meantime please do not put any broken glass or pottery in the dustbins as they represent a health and safety hazard.
