Clergy Letter from Canon Peter Bristow ASANTE-MAMPONG In a few days time I travel to Africa to visit the Diocese of AsanteMampong in Ghana and join the people and clergy as they celebrate on the Feast of Christ the King their first anniversary as a diocese. Asante-Mampong came into existence just one year ago and is the newest Diocese in the Anglican Communion. Some of you may remember a few years ago Canon Brian Gant, who has since moved elsewhere, regularly helped us with Sunday services of Holy Communion. In 2011 he asked us if we could assist Bishop Cyril Ben Smith whose suffragan area was then part of Kumasi Diocese (Ghana’s second city) by providing his house with a water well which costs around £4,000. We agreed to do this by using the breakfast and tea monies from the Lower Wharfe Parish former monthly services. In 2013 the breakfast monies were added to by contributions in honour of my 40th Ordination Anniversary. We raised over half the cost of the new well £2,500. My renewed thanks to all who contributed to this project.

Having few financial resources Bishop Cyril was deeply grateful for the help we gave him and one of his ways of saying thank you was to invite me to become an honorary canon when his suffragan area of Asante-Mampong in Kumasi, was made a new diocese. For a couple of days in February this year Bishop Cyril came to stay with us and attended the first Lent lecture. I showed him all our churches and took his photograph outside each church! He met our Youth Leader, Kate Kennedy, with a view to us creating some youth and school links. I also took him to see Sister Dorothy Stella, the Prioress of Order of the Holy Paraclete (OHP) at St. Hilda’s, Whitby. Sister Dorothy spent many years in Ghana and her Order built and ran several hospitals and schools which continue to this day. Two weeks ago I went to Leicester on my day off to meet Christina Sobotie, who is the Principal of St. Monica’s College of Further Education in Mampong which was founded by the OHP sisters.

We are so blessed and water is not an issue for us, yet there are still large parts of Africa where the water situation is critical, especially in the sub-Saharan areas of the continent. This will be my first visit to Africa and I am slightly apprehensive about what I will see and learn. I have had numerous injections in preparation and I am told it will be hot ! Over the centuries countries different European countries colonized Ghana, the British being the last before independence in 1957. Ghana suffered four coups in fifteen years but since 2000 has become one of the more developed countries in West Africa with a stable democracy, yet it is still poor by our standards. Continued from page 3 During our discussions Bishop Cyril asked if I would assist him with ecclesiastical legal matters and also asked if we could help raise some funds to train new clergy. He only has twelve clergy for a diocese the size of York and he told me that on Ash Wednesday his clergy had thousands of communicants. Since I have been in these parishes we have trained six new priests, half of his current work force ! At the time of writing all the Village Church Councils (apart from Bramham who are soon to meet) have agreed to fund the training of one priest. A very big thank you to the members of our Village Church Councils. This will be an annual cost of £1,500 for three years. Divided into four it means each church will provide just £375 a year for the next three years, a small sum for our parish budgets, but a vast sum for Asante-Mampong and Bishop Cyril is truly thrilled. In addition several individuals have approached me to ask if they can help fund a second priest. This has been agreed. If anyone would like to join in, this would be marvellous but I will need to know by the middle of December. Whatever commitment anyone would wish to make it will need to be ongoing for three years so that I can guarantee the full funding of £1,500 per annum. Hopefully in the next few weeks we will have the details of the students for the priesthood who started their course in August.

5 The Mampong Babies home in the new diocese was founded by the OHP Sisters in 1967 and is one of the most important services the diocese is providing for the whole community. It takes care of vulnerable newborn orphans and also looks after babies whose mothers died in childbirth or shortly afterwards. Often very weak, the babies are cared for until they are about four years old by which age it is hoped they will be able to feed and dress themselves and be able to help with simple household chores. They are then reunited with surviving members of their family. Many of the babies’ fathers are poor migrant labourers who often feel unable to cope with a new-born child during its early months and years. Equally the child’s health and survival might be at risk if it were to stay with a father who is himself struggling to endure often very difficult living and working conditions. After I return I would like to launch an appeal to the whole community to help raise some funding for this vital, life saving work. I understand the orphanage building is in a poor state and also needs to be expanded. This is noble work and will put us directly in touch with a real African need. In 2012 we had an extensive display about Mampong in St. Mary’s. I intend to create a new one in the coming weeks which will move around the parishes. Please pray for Bishop Cyril and his people and priests. Pray also for safe journeys. I hope I’m not too hot nor you too cold!

Canon Peter

BRAMHAM IN BLOOM I had a phone call the other day from someone in Sherburn in Elmet saying that he understood that we had a book of walks round Bramham as they had done all the walks around Sherburn. Although we did not have any copies of the book I pointed him to the Bramham website where he could view it and down load it if he wanted. I then wondered if Bramham residents knew about the book as it was originally printed in 2005. The walks should still be there as they were done from rights of way as shown on the Ordnance Survey Maps, so if it’s a bright sunny winters day why not try one!! Happy Walking Ernest

CELEBRATIONS IN BRAMHAM FOR THE HARVEST Congratulations to the Harvest Celebration team in Bramham last weekend. There were many reasons to say thank you for a bountiful harvest. Bramham in Bloom, the two allotment groups Folly Allotments and Tenter Hill displayed a myriad of produce some of which seemed to be very ambitious and unusual. The plot holders not only have green fingers but have endless energy and expertise to produce all that they offered on their displays.

Bramham in Bloom/Allotment Stand

All surplus produce was donated to St George’s Crypt who each year manage to provide over 56,000 meals for their needy clients.

Bramham in Bloom were proud to promote their Gold Award Certificate for the second year running. Many residents arrived to take part in the activities and buy from the Fair Trade stall, a local bee- keeper from Honey Farm, the Monday Club’s jams and chutneys, the Yorkshire Countrywomen’s Association’s cakes puddings and bread! Teas and scones were very popular as was the Collingham Beer! Squeals of delight could be heard by the children and parents as they watched a puppet show provided by the Bramham Drama Group.

Work in Progress!

Creative miniature gardens and vegetable/fruit creatures were rewarded by prizes presented by Fiona Henderson Vice Chair of the Parish Council. Face painting by Brooke Babes was kept busy by a permanent queue all afternoon! Rev Stanley Menzies who initiated the idea of a Harvest Weekend led the service in All Saints Church on Sunday morning where we were entertained by Bramham School Choir singing a favourite song about “Cauliflowers Fluffy”. Children from the Stepping Stones group made up boxes to distribute to older residents of the village. After the service delicious soup and bread was available in the Village Hall. A wonderful weekend organized by an energetic team showcased the whole village. Many many thanks to Anne Palmer, Mavis Wilson, Lin Tritschler and Lynne Marshall who worked extremely hard to ensure everything went well and also thanks to all the support they received from friends and residents. ………it may become an annual event who knows! OCTOBER 2015 UPDATE ....communica ng with residents

To All Bramham Residents: Defibrillators: The Council is purchasing 2 defibrillators to be placed at suitable points within the village. There will also be an awareness session that anyone will be able to attend. Defibrillators are easy to use in cases of suspected heart attack, tell you how to use them, and can save lives whilst an ambulance is on its way. Once they are installed the ambulance service will know where they are, and when you call 999 in an emergency they will tell you whether or not you should fetch the defibrillator. More info next month and on the website. Lock Your Car!! There has been some car crime in Bramham recently, but in several cases cars had been left unlocked! Don’t make it easy for thieves. Headley Fields: We are very pleased to see that the University has withdrawn its land at Headley from the Leeds City Council list of proposed sites for development. However, recognizing that there could be pressure on the University to reverse the decision, the Council and Neighborhood Plan Group will maintain their objection to the site and contact the University to advise our agreement with their decision. Stacey is already doing a great job and we’re very pleased to have her on board. Councillors’ responsibilities: Cllrs take on various responsibilities within the Council, these are: Employment:

11 Parish Council Report - Continued from page 9

The beck and wildlife area behind the Senior Citizens’ Centre: There is some evidence of children playing in the beck behind the Senior Citizens’ Centre. Clearly this can be very dangerous, so we do want all parents to be aware. Also please don’t allow your children to do things such as build damns in the beck, as this is affecting water flow.

New bench: A new bench is to be installed on Lyndon Square.

Next Meeting: Next meeting is Wednesday 4th November, 7.30 pm in the Senior Citizens’ Centre. We hope you find this update useful. If you would like to read more detailed information about items discussed, the minutes of the meeting can be found on our parish notice board and on Bramham Parish Council’s official website www.thisisbramham.co.uk. Bramham Parish Council ....communica ng with residents SENIOR CITIZENS’ CENTRE – WHAT DO YOU THINK?

The Council has again looked at the cost of installing a toilet and running water in the Senior Citizens’ Centre. As there is currently no connection to drains or water it is a bigger job than you might think, and will cost in the region of £25,000. This is without any other restoration work, and without the additional running costs that would result. It is currently not heavily used, but the question is would it be used more with the additional facilities. We recognize that it is an important focal point in the village, but is this enough to justify the spend? Please tell us your views, whether for or against – we need to know! Write to or email our clerk :Marie Lynch

There was a chance earlier this year that your local Bramham Brownies group would not be able to continue but we now have a strong group of parents and local supporters who came together to offer their time and skills to ensure the great tradition of Bramham Brownies would continue. Over the last few weeks we have been working towards our Healthy Heart badge and hopefully you will see the posters we have created around the village! In addition a nature walk through the woods ended with a lovely cup of hot chocolate and toasting marshmallows on a camp fire! During the next few weeks we will be busy making wreaths for Remembrance Day, mixing with other brownies at a local swimming gala and doing a range of activities in preparation (and anticipation) for Christmas! A busy few months for us all! We currently have 21 brownies who meet every Tuesday evening at Bramham Primary School from 6 – 7.15pm. If you would like to get your child on the waiting list for the group or would like to help with the Brownies then please get in touch: The new leaders are: Aimee Sibley (Brown Owl), Jane Dalton and Joanna Bayton-Smith (07733 117031) and our email address is Bramham_brownies@outlook.com

THE GREAT BRAMHAM BAKE OFF Forty amateur bakers brought their creations to the Village Hall on the last Saturday in September to take part in the inaugural Great Bramham Bake Off and if you weren’t there, you missed a treat – well, quite a few, actually! A veritable cornucopia of all things sweet and oh! so tempting was laid out – Victoria sponge cakes, scones, decorated cupcakes, brownies ,flapjacks ,tea loaves and assorted tray bakes – for judging by Elizabeth Robinson and Danni Greig, craftspeople from Bettys Bakery in Harrogate. They diligently worked their way around the tables sampling all the entries except those in the Showstopper class. All who saw these marvelous offerings would agree that they were, indeed, works of art and must have taken hours to produce. The winner of this category was Suze Shelbrooke with her amazing seasonal representation of a pumpkin. The judges were full of praise for the high standard across all the categories particularly in the under fourteen’s section. Nine year-old Ava Osbaldeston from Bramham won first prize and Best in Show for her chocolate brownies. Well done, Ava! During the judging, contestants and their families enjoyed refreshments provided by the Pavilion team and the afternoon concluded with a cake sale, proceeds of which will go towards the Pavilion running costs. A huge thank you to all who took part and for helping to make it a very enjoyable and successful event. Class 1st Decorated Cup Cakes Emily Poulton

REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY Remembrance Sunday, the second Sunday in November, is the day traditionally put aside to remember all those who have given their lives for the peace and freedom we enjoy today. On this day people across the nation pause to reflect on the sacrifices made by our brave Service men and women.

This will fall on Sunday 8th November this year The Remembrance Service in Bramham is an important Village occasion and you are invited to come to All Saints Church at 9.45 am to honour the fallen and to reflect on the urgent need to overcome violence and to build lasting peace. At the conclusion of the service we walk to the War Memorial for the Act of Remembrance at 11am. Please join us, when Bramham participates in this solemn national event and people from various village organisations lay their separate wreaths. Sadly due to the current intensive operations, the names of many young men and women are being added to war memorials throughout the land. So on Remembrance Day we remember these people as well as those from the two great wars. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old, Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn, At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them. Poppies will be on sale at various points in the village and in Church. Please give generously

Stepping Stones October’s Stepping Stones was a very busy evening with the children decorating the harvest boxes in preparation for the Harvest Festival at Church on the Sunday. The children and their parents decorated 22 harvest boxes beautifully, and they were rewarded with lots of chocolate biscuits! At the Harvest Service the following Sunday the children enjoyed hearing school choir sing some wonderful songs, and helped to read the prayers. It was a fantastic service, with lots of members of the community involved. A massive thank you to all those who helped fill up the harvest boxes with goodies and to those who helped to deliver them….they were all very gratefully received. The children who attend Stepping Stones are mainly from Bramham, Boston Spa and Thorp Arch schools. Any child is welcome to attend whether or not they come to Church…. It is simply a way of meeting other families in a relaxed friendly environment. The next session is on Friday 6th November at All Saints Church - 5.30pm. We will be making poppies for the wreath at Remembrance Service. For more information please contact Jennie Saynor …. jen@saynor.me.uk. BRAMHAM READERS GROUP Next meeting is in The Swan on Tuesday 3rd November at 7.30 pm. We will be discussing “Life After Life” by Kate Atkinson

Contact Marion 844191 or Jillian 844858

YORKSHIRE COUNTRYWOMEN’S ASSOCATION Our speaker in September was Mr Ken Humphreys who gave a most entertaining talk on the career and music of Andrew Lloyd Webber, with a selection of recorded songs. We all enjoyed the opportunity to sing-aa-long, making this one of our most popular meetings. We were pleased to contribute to the Harvest Celebration weekend and our thanks are due to all the members who made cakes, puddings and bread which were sold for Bramham Church. We are also pleased to report that one of our members, Julia Hammond, gained a 1st and a 2nd in the Bramham Bake Off event. On November 18th we shall be holding our pre-Christmas lunch at Dintingdale’s Restaurant, Scarthingwell. 12.30 pm for 1.15pm. Numbers will be taken and any travel arrangements will be made at our October meeting. Jean Dale

BRAMHAM PAVILION It’s been a very successful summer for the Pavilion with the facilities now being used for a variety of activities which is great to see. We are grateful to everyone in the village and beyond who have supported these events and hope that you will bear us in mind if you are planning something in the future where both the pavilion and outside space offer fantastic opportunities for a whole range of celebratory occasions. We would love to see a few more folk volunteer to help plan pavilion fund-raising events and perhaps put forward some new ideas that have worked well in other villages. You would not be tied to weekly meetings as much of our communication is done by email but we do meet more frequently leading up to a major event. If you do not want to be part of the committee but would be willing to help in a practical capacity at an event, please let me know at: taylorgerry@btinternet.com Gerry Taylor Secretary

WETHERBY RUFC The Rugby World Cup may have been a big disappointment as far as England were concerned but your local team continues to go from strength to strength.

WETHERBY CHORAL SOCIETY Mendelssohn – Elijah St James's Church, Wetherby Saturday 21st November 2015 at 7.30 p.m. Tickets £14

‘Droughts, deserts, false gods, angels, earthquakes, hurricanes and a firestorm...’ writes one commentator of Mendelssohn’s depiction of events in the life of the prophet Elijah, one of his most popular works. The chorus is central to all this high drama, from their first anguished cry of ‘Help, Lord!’, to their final wonderful musical description of Elijah’s fiery chariot carrying him on a whirlwind to heaven. Interspersed with all this frenzy are moments of quiet beauty, and over it all bestrides the central magisterial role of Elijah himself, surely one of the great bass solo parts. Elijah is such an accessible work and often a Fixtures at Grange Park for November are: singer’s first introduction to performing one of the choral classics. ‘I was seventeen at the time,’ th 7 Crusaders v Roundhegians remembers one member of Wetherby Choral th 14 Firsts v Harrogate Pythons Society, ‘and was swept along by the sheer 21st Crusaders v Ripon excitement of the work. Completely hooked, I have sung in choirs ever since.’ 28th To be arranged Come along on November 21 and be similarly Juniors meet 10 am every Sunday ‘swept along’ in what promises to be an equally thrilling performance under the ever-inspiring Bob Gibson leadership of musical director John Dunford. Treasurer

The first team remains unbeaten and the run now extends at the time of writing to 39 matches. Latest results include 104-0 against Leeds Medics and Dentists, 34-16 against Otliensians, the last team to beat Wetherby and 38-14 against Leeds Modernians and Wetherby currently top Yorkshire 3. CHRISTMAS SHOEBOX APPEAL Whisper it…….Christmas is just round the corner and preparations are underway. This year we are launching a Shoebox appeal in Bramham to bring some cheer to some of the neediest and to those who need to be remembered in the festive season. St George’s Crypt in Leeds provides 56000 meals each year for the homeless and offers support in many other ways. They would welcome the gift of warm clothing, socks, underwear, gloves, hats, scarves and jumpers. Many children and their families receive little or nothing at Christmas and toys, pens, pencils, notepads and items of clothing would be most acceptable. The elderly, the lonely and the housebound in our midst appreciate small acts of kindness and simple gifts of toiletries and small gifts chosen with thought are most welcome. There are two suggestions for the Shoebox: • Find a shoebox (any size will do) and place your items in it. Clearly label it for whom it is for. The boxes should be taken to Church in December. • There will be 3 collection boxes in Church labelled for the different categories in which you can place your items. The Church is open daily from 10am to 4pm. I know that you will give with imagination and with generosity. A COURSE FOR THE CHRISTIAN JOURNEY

Each short course consists of 6 sessions. Each session is routed in prayer and begins with the group exploring the scriptures together and continues with a more sustained reflection on the theme and opportunity for questions and discussion. Session One: Do you turn to Christ? - Explores the attraction of Jesus Christ. What happened when people met him? What would happen if you did? Session Two Do you believe and trust in God the Father? - What do Christians believe about God? This session uses the Old Testament to look at how God is like a Father. Session Three Do you believe in his Son Jesus Christ? - Looks in more detail at who Christians believe Jesus is, and what Jesus’ baptism reveals about his identity. Session Four: Do you believe in the Holy Spirit? - Uses the story of Pentecost to show how Christians believe the Holy Spirit makes Jesus present today. Session Five Do you repent of your sins? - Looks at what Christians call sin: that inbuilt tendency to get things wrong and God’s great desire to put things right. Session Six Do you renounce evil? - Explores the reality of evil and how the Christian faith invite us to set the moral compass of our lives. BEAUTY AND THE BEAST Wed 9th December – Sat 12th December (including Sat matinée performance) Bramham Village Hall With just over six weeks to go before curtain up, the cast and crew are busy rehearsing to put the finishing touches to the traditional Bramham pantomime, but this year it is far from traditional: yes, we have the triumph of good over evil and a comedy duo who appear to have flown in from the North East but unusually we have not one, but two dames and strong female characters who save the day. But then it is the Bramham panto, and if you’ve been before, you will be used to the unexpected! That’s what makes it so exciting and a great start to the festive season for all the family. Susan Shelbrooke has written a sparkling brand new script based on this centuries’ old story that you will not want to miss with many new faces and some of the ‘old’ ones you will recognize from previous productions. Make sure you reserve your tickets without delay to avoid disappointment. Telephone and email booking information in the advert above.

ARE YOU ABLE/UNABLE TO ACCESS THE NEW FIBRE BROADBAND (FTTC)? Dear fellow residents of Bramham seeking your HELP.

I am

In the Chairman’s report, given at the Bramham Annual Parish Meeting held on 16th April 2015, the Chairman reported: “We promoted a campaign to push for Superfast broadband, and it has now been installed, thank you to those residents who joined in the campaign”. However it is only available to certain areas within Bramham and not to others, those others having no prospect of being upgraded in the foreseeable future. There is a certain irony to the fact that those who previously received the worst service (those furthest away from the exchange and connected to cabinet 15) were actively excluded from the village upgrade. I have been in communication with both Openreach (British Telecom) and Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK/Superfast West Yorkshire [SFWY]), part of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and have managed to ascertain that Openreach surveyed the Boston Spa Exchange and the associated roadside green cabinetry in or around 2012 and made a commercial decision that an upgrade was not, for them, a viable proposition. Subsequently BDUK/SFWY, as a result of local pressure which included that provided by Bramham Parish Council, have, using public funding, paid Openreach to upgrade Boston Spa Exchange and a series of the associated cabinets (cabinet numbers 1,2,3,4,11,16,17 &18). As far as I am aware the only cabinet upgraded within the Bramham area has been cabinet 4 (Lyndon Road), the other upgraded cabinets probably relate to the other villages connected to the Boston Spa Exchange. There is however at least one other cabinet (cabinet 15 [Bowcliffe Road]) within the Bramham area which has not been upgraded and I and others are connected to this cabinet and as a result do not, and indeed will not, have

access to the upgraded network. I have tried to find out from Openreach the number of households (not their addresses) affected but they have refused to give the information as they consider it “commercially sensitive”. Up to the date of this article being submitted I have not received any substantive answers from either Openreach or BDUK/SFWY to my queries regarding who is and who is not able to access the fibre broadband and how the decision to exclude certain sectors of the village was made. I would like to map the area of Bramham regarding accessibility to the new fibre broadband (FTTC) and to do this I am asking for your help. It is a very simple matter for each of us to ascertain which of the green roadside cabinets we are connected to; I am asking that every household (whether you will use the fibre broadband or not) follow the simple steps below and then send me an e-mail giving the cabinet to which you are connected and your postcode (because your postcode will cover a number of properties in your immediate area I cannot access your address but I can access your locality) and I will then be able to create a map of connectivity within the village. The only accurate way to ascertain your connectivity is to input your house telephone number; to use the postcode and reversing the process does not give consistently accurate results, therefore WE NEED YOUR HELP. STEP 1 Using your internet browser log on to dslchecker.bt.com STEP 2 Enter your home telephone number (01937XXXXXX) in the box provided and press “submit”. STEP 3 Read off your cabinet number which you will find as shown here: Telephone Number 01937XXXXXX on Exchange BOSTON SPA is served by Cabinet X Continued on page 39

STEP 4. Send an e-mail to me (michael.crrgn@gmail.com) with your postcode and cabinet number (probably 4 or 15, but there may be others) If there are any residents who use cable rather than BT telephone lines please send me an email (michael.crrgn@gmail.com) stating “postcode” and “Cable”. Once we have mapped the connectivity within Bramham then we are in a position to approach Openreach/BDUK to try again to gain access to fibre broadband for the “WHOLE” village.

Thank you for your help in this matter; I will of course send a copy of the results to the Parish Council (they are aware of this initiative) and to every villager who responds. After this exercise I will ensure that all e-mail addresses are deleted unless any villager wishes to remain in contact to help secure an outcome. Mike Corrigan, Bramham Resident, Paradise Way. PLEASE HELP AND RESPOND STRAIGHT AWAY

BRAMHAM VILLAGE HALL NEW YEAR'S EVE PARTY By popular demand we will hold a New Year’s Eve party on 31st December. Live music from One Night Stand, who have entertained us before. As last year there will not be a sharing food table, so that food is not wasted, but happy for everyone to bring party food. Remember to bring your own drinks. Tickets will be on sale (probably at the Village Shop) from early December, or you can order tickets via the email (bramhamvillagehallbookings@gmail.com) or phone/text 07432 330972.

IMPROVED ACCESS TO SUPPER ROOM Following representation by groups who use the Supper Room, and as a result of a few accidents on the steps, the access to the supper room is only via a widened path along the side of the Supper Room. The Community Fund has allocated funds towards the cost of the work. The Committee asks that users of the hall do NOT try to climb down what remains of the soil covered area (this will be walled over in 2016).

BEER FESTIVAL (THE FINAL ONE??) The Committee wishes to thanks all those who supported the Beer festival – business and individual sponsors, those attending the event, and those who helped set up, serve up and clear up. A fantastic day was had by all. Not everyone appreciated the live Rugby on the big screen but many were pleased to be able to share the event in a convivial gathering. Live music provided by Rough Edge after the England defeat provided an upbeat end to the evening. The Beer Festival was billed as the final one to be organised by the Village Hall committee, and we acknowledge that many attendees have asked us to reconsider this decision. This might have to depend on whether other community groups wish to take over the event or the committee can persuade others to help organise...... Watch this space.

BOOKINGS FOR 2016 Please remember to book the hall early if you have a special event in 2016. We have already taken several bookings and don't want residents to be disappointed. Prices are currently the same as 2015. The Village Hall can be booked by phone or text on 07432 330972 or by email on bramhamvillagehallbookings@gmail.com . Committee can be contacted via Stewart Gibson on 01937 845084 or Christine Suddaby on 01937 849455, or by post via Bramham Village Hall, Low Way, Bramham LS23 6QT. A smile for November - A nervous Dad “Just relax” the hospital nurses kept telling Jim. But it was to no avail. Jim’s wife was in labour and Jim was a nervous wreck. After what seemed a week to Jim and the hospital staff , a nurse came out with the happy news. “ It’s a girl” she said with relief. “Thank God it’s a girl” said Jim, “at least she won’t have to go through what I just went through”.
