Postal Strikes

Many publications, the internet and social media sites advised people that the dates of April 6th-13th was a period when there was a last chance to register to vote in the municipal elections. The “Focus Magazine” was categorically informed that this was so. In the April 2nd-8th issue of the “Euro Weekly” newspaper the mayoress of Mojácar notified readers “The period for enquiries and to make applications to be included in the electoral roll is between the 6th and 13th of April 2015”. Unfortunately, the Electoral Census Authorities “INE” had a different interpretation. They stated that this period was only to correct administrative errors, for persons who had made an application to vote before January 1st, and were not on the published register. They advised town halls that this was not a period for new applications to be made. This meant that many people of all nationalities (including Spanish nationals) who went to their town halls to apply to go on the voting register were turned away. Various political groups also advised people that they could register to vote during this period.

At time of going to press, Spanish postal workers are set to be on strike on May 4th, 15th and 22nd. Post offices will be shut and there will be no deliveries. The strike on Friday, May 22nd is just before the municipal elections the following Sunday, so there are fears that this might cause a problem with postal votes. There will be a go-slow partial strike on May 14th & 21st, again very close to the elections. In other autonomous communities, May 24th is also election day for their parliaments, but Andalucía held theirs on March 22nd. The postal unions are complaining about low pay, too many postal workers laid off, and an increase in the numbers of letters and parcels, and a disinterest from the postal authorities in solving these problems.

May 24th If you are an ex-pat and are registered to vote, then Sunday, May 24th is the date when you go to the polling stations. It should only take a small amount of your time, between 8am-9pm. Remember to take photo ID, and your voting card “tarjeta censal” if it has come through the post. Persons on the voting register from 2011 will be automatically included if you are still on the town hall “padrón” (official list of residents). The cards were sent out starting from April 27th. We give some thoughts on who to vote for in an article, so make your votes count. If you were entitled to vote and didn't bother, then should have done! The council members voted in are there until 2019, whether you like it or not. You can either take a list of candidates in the sealed envelope with you, or use the ones in the polling station. Remember not to write on the list, otherwise it is a spoilt vote. Some Spanish nationals register their protest if they are not at all happy with their normal party, by just putting an envelope in the box without a list. These are counted as votes “en blanco”, but don't do this if you are an ex-pat!

In early April, residents near the municipal cemetery at Nijar alerted police to a crashed helicopter. It was mostly intact, lying on its side, with the rotors torn off. Local people who went to the scene found no evidence of a pilot or other persons. When police and ambulances arrived they confirmed this, and the area was cordoned off. The helicopter type was one normally used in this area for fire-fighting, but the “Infoca” authorities in Andalucía stated that it was not one of theirs. Almería airport advised the police that the helicopter had not taken off from there, nor had any flight plan been notified, and it may have used a private airport. Further enquiries regarding the ownership of the Russian-made 'Sokol' helicopter made in 1990, led to a company in the Canaries, who had sold it in January. Police say that there was evidence of two persons having been inside, and they suspected it may have been involved in a drug running operation, and they obtained

Ciudadanos gained seats in the recent Andalucían parliamentary elections where they stood for the first time. Their local coordinator Miguel Cazoris says that their party is dedicated to honestly serving the people of Almería province. In Arboleas in 2011 some six P.S.O.E. (centre left) politicians defected to the P.S.A. (Socialist Party of Andalucía) including the mayor from 1963-2003, Cristobal García. He and six councillors including Roger Done have now re-joined the P.S.O.E. and Cristobal García now heads their list for mayor. 12 months ago the P.S.O.E party accused him of corruption, but this has now been swept under the carpet.

At present, staff are receiving tuition and training on how to make the best use of the new equipment that will soon be in operation.

Drinking Beer Is Good!

At a conference at Almería University, investigators from The Health Faculty at Valencia University presented findings that proved drinking beer was good for breast-feeding mothers. Actually, they were talking about non-alcoholic beer! They consider that drinking two bottles of this type of beer a day, greatly improved the antioxidant composition of mother's milk. In their trial that involved testing 80 mothers who did consume beer, alongside mothers who didn't, they established that the antioxidant content was increased by 30% in the first group. They also found other advantages in blood composition. So expectant mothers can stock up on beer with a clear conscience!

After three years of no new work being initiated with respect to the 'AVE' (high speed train) project between Murcia and Almería, the Minister of Transport, Ana Pastor, announced that the 12 km section from Pulpí to Cuevas was to be put out to tender. This was first promised in January, but did not happen until March 20th, two days before the parliamentary elections in Andalucía. Last December, after a lot of pressure, it was agreed that the track base width would be wide enough to allow for one track at present, but two “some time in the future”. Previously they had decreed that there would only be a single track. Unfortunately they have not given up on this idea, depending on feasibility studies as to the use of the line. Having only one track dramatically reduces the cost of course. It is considered at present that there may be three trains a day in both directions between Almería and Madrid, and two in each direction to Barcelona via Valencia, both passing through the Murcia station. Ana Pastor has announced that studies will have to be made as to whether a single track could handle this traffic, including goods trains at night. One proposal had been that the extremely expensive twin tunnels at Sorbas could be used as a passing point for trains in both directions at the same time. No new sections, except for this one, have been announced whilst the P.P party in government have held the majority in the Spanish parliament since 2011. The next general elections are in November, and other parties are promising to give the 'AVE' throughout Spain a priority boost - if they get elected.

A New Museum Almería city has a new museum dedicated to local artists from 1880-1970, particularly the 'Indalo Movement' that produced many fine painters. The Art Museum Doña Pakyta is in the converted Casa Vasca, a famous building in Calle Gerona near the Almería city rambla, and will house 120 works. The company 'Grupo Consentino' from Partaloa that specializes in marble and composite worktops has agreed to fund the centre for the next two years, with a third year option, to the tune of 80,000 euros per annum. The new museum will operate in conjunction with the art gallery at the Almería museum. At present, two floors of the building are in use and further space will be created as part of phase two. Focus on Local News continued So What Happened in Almería Province? In the Andalucía parliamentary elections, Spanish nationals from all of the 102 municipalities in Almería province voted to send MP's to represent the province. It finished up that the two main parties won five seats each, but the two new ones Ciudadanos and Podemos got one each. Almería city, Roquetas, Adra, and El Ejido, are traditionally P.P. strongholds and this was unchanged, but with a lot less votes. Where the P.P. lost votes, they seem to have gone mainly to the new Cuidadanos party, and whilst the P.S.O.E. party triumphed in 20 municipalities where they didn't last time, they lost votes to Podemos. In Bédar, the P.P. votes were down 42%, in Albox 28%, Arboleas 23%, Los Gallardos 32%, Huércal-Overa 31%, Mojácar 20%, Vera 29%, Turre 37%, and in Zurgena a drop of 46%. The Cuidadanos party, new to these elections, present themselves as a centre right party without the corruption! If these results are an indication of what will happen in the municipal elections there will be very significant differences in who holds control in our local councils, although other coalitions and groups will have candidates as well.

Julián Arcas Competition 2015 The internationally famous 'Julián Arcas' classical guitar competition in Almería city will take place this year from July 9th-18th, the 14th annual event. There are three categories; children up to 13 years old, up to 18 years, of any age, and three levels of competition. Winners of the 'Julián Arcos' largest prize receive 10,000, 4,000, and 2,000 euros for 1st to 3rd places. Entrants to the first phase of the competition have to register by May 29th. Full details are available at www.julianarcas.es. The competition is sponsored by the Cajamar Caja Rural bank group, and attracts classical guitar players from all over the world.

Cheap Bids Opposition councillors in Huércal-Overa claim that cheap bids are being accepted for civil engineering work from companies that the town hall are friendly with, but the final costs are much higher. They quote the case of work at the Plaza de la Constitución with a top limit for bids of 36,000 euros. The work was given to a company that put in a bid of 28,500 euros

that then rose by another 7,500 euros making the total cost up to the maximum of 36,000. In another case they state that street lighting with a maximum bid of 24,000 euros was awarded to a company that only quoted 12,000, but the final cost was 24,500. They say that this is a sharp practice, only favouring companies that are related to town hall councillors.

During the week finishing on March 31st when politicians could open new installations prior to the municipal elections ban, the natural gas pipeline at Huércal-Overa was officially opened. Domingo Fernández, the mayor, said that the use of natural gas was clean and secure and would save fuel from other sources. The gas supply is part of the 135km pipeline from Huércal-Overa through Baza to Guadix, to serve the large marble and stone companies. So far some 6,000 metres of pipework has been completed in Huércal-Overa from the A-7 motorway junction as far as the bus station and the area where the market takes place. The next phase will include the municipal pool and the hospital. The company 'Redexis Gas' have signed contracts with 500 companies and intend to install 150 outlets, with another 16,000 mts of pipeline. The gas line will shortly be linked to Albox. So far, 'Redexis Gas' has installed 1,100 km of pipework in the provinces of Cádiz, Jaen, Granada and Almería. The very large under-sea pipeline installed a few years ago brings the gas from Algeria to the distribution facility near Almería port.

The Pulpí Dry Port The association “Port Rail Almanzora Levante” are pushing hard for the creation of a “dry port” logistical centre at Pulpí. 17 companies, mostly concerned with agriculture and marble, want a centre alongside the “AVE” (high speed train) project to carry goods by train, not road. They say that at peak periods there are 230 lorries loaded daily, that could be replaced by 2 to 4 trains. They are prepared to shoulder the initial cost of 10 million euros, with a final cost of 40 million euros. The European rail pressure group 'Ferrmed' are supporting this idea. Water Clocks Water clocks are probably the oldest method of marking time that was independent of the sun or stars. One of the earliest examples was discovered in an Egyptian tomb, dated about 1,500 B.C. The Greeks began using them in 325 B.C. They were usually stone containers like a large jar, with a small hole near the bottom. The inside was calibrated to show the “hours” as the water slowly drained out. Some water clocks used a bowl at the bottom, and after a certain amount of water had collected this triggered a stone to fall out and strike a flat gong. Other water clocks were more tubular and wooden figures floated into view as the water level increased. Their overall accuracy was never very exact.

Raccoons The common raccoon is a medium sized mammal native to North America. Their most recognizable features are their hand-like paws and their facial features that look as if they are masked. Raccoons are nocturnal and their typical body weight is 3.5-9 kgs (8-20 lbs). They eat plants, fruit, nuts, and small animals on land. Raccoons are quite happy on land or water, and will swim for several hours catching fish. In the wild their life expectancy is not more than three years. Christopher Columbus was the first explorer to come back and describe them. They are very intelligent and cunning, often called “sly coons”. After a 1977 TV series “Rascal the Raccoon” large numbers were imported into Japan as pets.

Fish Fingers Clarence Birdseye was an explorer and biologist in Canada who realized that fish exposed to sub-zero temperatures froze almost immediately. He tried to duplicate the process in his laboratory and eventually developed commercial quick freezing techniques. He patented this system in 1927 and many years later decided to produce commercial food items. He tested prototype products in South Wales called “herring savouries”, and “cod sticks” in Southampton, with moderate success. He went into wholesale production in 1955, christening his sticks “battered cod pieces”, but a poll of his female workers for a new name was “fish fingers”. Nowadays, the fish used comes in large frozen blocks from Norway, Russia and Iceland.

Stainless Steel Harry Brearley was an English scientist who worked at the Brown Firth laboratories. In 1912 a client asked them to develop a type of steel for gun barrels that did not erode. He experimented with various alloys using chromium and carbon. In 1913 he used steel containing 13% chromium and 3% carbon. He had invented stainless steel, but didn't appreciate the full extent of the uses it could be put to. He used nitric acid to etch the steel and discovered it was very resistant to acids, lemon juice and vinegar. Brearley took his steel to a famous cutlery manufacture in Sheffield who refined the alloy and hardened it. Brearley had christened this steel “rustless steel”, but the cutlery manufacturer called it “stainless steel”.

Who Gets our Vote on May 24th?

e can't tell you this of course, but there are guidelines. In the last 2011 municipal elections in our area, some council members from the same political party obtained an outright majority. These included Albox, Cantoria, Garrucha, Huércal-Overa, Los Gallardos, Mojácar, (this was heavily disputed, and opposition councillors allege there was a voting “fix”), and Turre. So how have they performed? Have they used their majority to benefit their municipality, and worked hard to deal with “illegal” properties? Have they made access to their town hall easy for ex-pats? Alternatively, have theses majority parties abused their trust? Have they introduced wacky and expensive projects that even Spanish nationals have objected to? Have they held regular council meetings, and taken on-board proposals from opposition councillors, or run roughshod over them? Have they caused enormous controversy? If you think your majority council of the same political party have done well, you may consider voting for them again. If you think they have effectively formed a dictatorship and not worked for the benefit of their municipality, vote for another party or group that inspires more confidence. If there has been a coalition of two or more groups, has this worked well? Coalitions of council members may well put the brakes on when proposals by one group are judged to be inadvisable. Council members with full voting rights receive a salary, often very substantial, as well as perks, on top of their day jobs. Have they voted themselves large pay rises, and is this fair in the recession? Some councillors including Jim Simpson from Zurgena, chose to draw no salary at all from 2007 or 2011, so they must be on their councils for “love”, and the benefit of their population. Councillors in opposition get peanuts in the way of financial compensation. Their groups receive almost nothing for attending council meetings or putting forward projects. Jessica Simpson from Mojácar distinguished herself in the last elections by being the only British councillor who led her

party and obtained a council (opposition) seat in Almería province. Do you think that a council member in opposition in your municipality has done an outstanding job? Voting for their group or party this time round so that they finish up with a few hundred votes more than before, may well mean they become a full council member with a decisive vote, and other persons on their list may get in as well. Casting a vote

Alternatively, there may be a new group or “independent” one with a list that you think is good. Non-Spanish councillors who are fluent in Spanish and understand council procedure will find it easier. It is not absolutely essential but bear this in mind. Any group which receives less than 100 votes, (and there are always some), has these votes allocated to the other groups proportionally. Registered voters should receive a “tarjeta censal” (voting card) through the post. If you know you are on the voting register but didn't get a card or the dog has eaten it, you can still vote. The cards tell you where to go to vote, (quite often a school), and take photo ID. You can vote from 8am-9pm. In the voting booths there are lists of all the groups. Put your chosen list, without marking it in any way, into one of the envelopes provided and seal it. If you have done this at home this is quite ok. Once you put your envelope into the ballot box, that's it. When voting has closed, and the votes counted, the political manoeuvring starts!

One Year On

osé Manuel Soria is the Spanish Minister of Industry and will go down in history as the person who has made extremely significant changes in the way our electricity supply costs and bills are calculated. The electricity supply companies fought tooth and nail to stop many of these changes. In December 2013, the supply companies fixed their cost of buying fuel to produce electricity for the first quarter of 2014, determined at an “auction” of energy costs, a quarterly system in use for many years. They claimed an increase of 23%, so a real rise of 11% for consumers, when applied to the total bill. José Soria exercised a right that had never been used before and annulled this increase. He imposed a new system where the daily cost of energy was calculated each month. He also compelled the supply companies to go back to monthly meter readings (scrapping estimated ones), monthly bills, and much clearer billing information. Recently he froze increases in the 60% part of electricity bills that come from distribution costs, maintenance, and other charges. The new monthly cost of buying electricity was reflected in our bills from April 2014, one year ago. So how has it worked in practice? As we explained in an article in February, electricity produced from cheap renewable energy sources such as wind power and hydro-electric sources has a big effect on our bills, as well as the amount of energy we need from variables such as heating in winter, and airconditioning use in summer months. Each month the cost of producing electricity from all sources is expressed in euros per megawatt per hour, shortened to Euros MW/hr. If you have 1,000 water heaters on for one hour, with an element rated at 1,000 watts (1Kw) this is 1MW/hr. In April 2014, (a period between winter heating use and summer air-con use), each MW/hr cost 26 euros as wind power and hydro-electric sources supplied 50% of the energy, but this was a freak month. Costs went up to 42 euros per MW/hr in May, and steadily rose and peaked at 59 euros in September when renewable energy sources only supplied 18% and coal fired power stations had to contribute 33%.

By December 2014 it fell back to 47 euros, but lack of wind and rain and more demand resulted in a rise in January to 52 euros, and 2% more in our bills. In February, more wind and rain reduced the cost to 43 euros giving a 5% reduction in what we paid, and March costs were the same; so no change. Ignoring the freak month of April last year, during the last eleven months energy costs have gone up 17%. As these costs are only 40% of our bill makeup, we paid 7% more. Not good news, but certainty less than using the old quarterly “auction” system.

The next big change is “intelligent meters”. All supply companies have to change to these by December 31st, 2018, but they are being phased in, and a few million households have these already. The intelligent meters transmit the amount of electricity being used every few seconds down cables to a central point and the consumer then pays accordingly. Using electricity from 8pm-11pm will cost considerably more than the early hours of the morning. Consumers will be able to access their daily, weekly, and monthly use of electricity via a website. Perhaps José Manuel Soria will ask for a new job if his party wins the November general elections? Whatever happens, he won't be forgotten!

Saving the Lynx

he Spanish & Portuguese lynx cat, a member of the feline family known in Spanish as “El Lince”, is one of the world's most endangered species. At present, funding totalling 90 million euros has been advanced to try and ensure the continued existence of these cats. About 60% comes from EU funds, as part of conservation project known as “LIFE+Iberlince”.

Before they are released into the wild as young adults, they are introduced into an enclosed area, very similar to their native habitat. Disaster struck in 2009 when lynx cubs started dying from kidney failure. Veterinary experts had no idea why this was occurring, until the chemical composition of a vitamin supplement, used quite routinely, was found to be the cause. The composition had been changed by the manufacturer with terrible results, and some The lynx has tufted ears, long legs, a short coat, 23 lynx died. and a neck ruff that resembles a beard. It is a spotted tawny colour, and a fully grown male has a head and body length of about 39 inches (1metre), and can weigh up to 55 lbs (25 kgs). Females weigh about 22 lbs (10 kgs) and they have two or three kittens during March & April. Their diet is almost exclusively rabbits, and some other small rodents. For reasons that are not entirely clear, one kitten may seriously attack another kitten when they are both aged 45-60 days; probably for survival of the fittest. In 1960 there were thought to be about 4,000 lynx spread between south-western Spain and Portugal, but alarm bells began to ring in 2000 when the numbers had dropped to an estimated 400. By 2002 it was thought that only 200 remained. The lynx then became listed as a “critically endangered” species. A comprehensive conservation project was introduced, with breeding in captivity heading the list. In March 2005, “Brezo”, “Brecina” & “Brisa” were born at a centre in the Doñana National Park between Huelva and Seville. Representatives from the conservation projects, including the Junta de Andalucía Environmental Agency, recently celebrated the tenth anniversary of these births. Gradually, other centres were established in Jaén, Cáceres, the Botanical Zoo in Cádiz, and Silves in Portugal. The Jaén centre is very important, as it is situated in the Sierra de Andújar mountain region that has become a sanctuary, where 50% of the estimated population of 330 live in Andalucía.

Fully grown males eat about one rabbit per day, but pregnant females need two or three. They are poorly adapted to eat other rodents, but young deer are sometimes included in their diet. Unfortunately there is a virus disease killing off rabbits in large numbers in Spain that is causing great concern. Without sufficient rabbits, the lynx population is suffering, and rabbit breeding is being considered. Five lynx have been killed this year near the Doñana park and in Jaén in traffic accidents. It is thought that they are hunting for rabbits in unfamiliar areas.

In 2012 the genome of the lynx was sequenced, and DNA from dead lynx in museums and private collections is being collected to ultimately improve their genetic diversity. Cell embryos were collected in 2013 by the Leibniz Wildlife Institute in Berlin, and are now stored in liquid nitrogen in Madrid. The Brain Drain

he number of university graduates leaving the UK to work abroad is a current concern but immigrants are more than balancing the overall population. This same situation exists in Almería province but there are more people leaving than arriving. At the time of the building boom there was plenty of work available. The Spanish social security had a healthy surplus and money paid in was much more than money going out. Nowadays, payments to sectors such as the unemployed or pensioners have to be subsidized from state funds. One out of every three children born in Almería province has at least one parent who is not Spanish, but the province is not the magnet for immigrants that it was. Starting in 2012, there are more people (particularly graduates) going away to find work than are arriving, par tly because the unemployment figures for young persons in Almería province is almost 50%. It is difficult to obtain really accurate figures but there is a register of Spanish nationals working abroad. This shows that at the start of this year there were 41,000 people from Almería province registered, with 12,000 who left during 2014. 6,800 of these 12,000 were stated to be equally split between France and Argentina, 1,000 in Germany, 380 in the UK, 700 in Switzerland and the US, and 3,000 in other countries. Since January, another 500 have gone. This is not the whole story, as some people who go to work abroad do not go on the register until they have obtained work or they fear they may lose Spanish social security benefits. Andrés Sánchez Picón is a professor of economics at Almería university and is worried that immigrants are not balancing the numbers who leave. Previously, university graduates often went to Madrid and Barcelona to find suitable jobs, but in this day and age there are not jobs there either. Many graduates take jobs way below their qualifications and then decide that moving abroad

is an attractive and necessary alternative. The typical profile of persons leaving Spain to work abroad is a male aged 26-39, who has considered this possibly for some time, or has friends who have done the same thing. Andrés considers that there is a positive and a negative side to this. Persons leaving Almería province to work abroad means more chances of others obtaining work here, but we are losing educated people who may come back eventually but not whilst unemployment is so high.

Ana García is a 26 year old qualified nurse from Vera who went to London and worked at the Tate Modern art gallery. Her command of English was soon good enough to obtain work as a nurse and her training in Spain is highly regarded. The current job she has been given is not a temporary one. Juan Montoya aged 22 from Aguadulce went to the UK last October because he had friends there. Within five days he had a suitable job interview and was working within a week. He hopes to come back here but at present fully accepts that he is better off where he is. María Gonzalez is also from Aguadulce and was given a European grant to go to a Polish university to finish a higher degree in teaching children. She intends to stay as teaching Spanish is greatly in demand and is the second most popular foreign language in Polish schools after English. Along with many others, these people may come back here one day, but not soon. (The above names have been changed to protect their identity).

f you are a known terrorist, travelling by air is going to be almost impossible as many details will be already stored in international passport control systems, or in data that agencies such as the C.I.A., MI6, and in Spain the C.N.I (Centro Nacional Inteligencia) keep and share. The same applies if you are a known religious radical, or belong to such groups. There are also lists of “persons of interest” that have caught the eye of these agencies. Further down the list are millions of other people that have come to their attention by some means or other. Keeping track of all these people is extremely difficult or impossible. Nowadays we have the radicalised fanatics who decide to travel abroad to join terrorist groups.

All this information will be available in milliseconds. The “mega brain” will also throw up previous flight history information under the name of the passenger, and onward flight details. The US started a system known as Advance Passenger Information System where the details of passengers flying to the US have to be submitted to them before the flights take off, now extended to many other countries. Thousands of incoming passengers raise no immediate concern. Imagine if a multitude of information was available at the click of a mouse at passport controls at airports, when passengers were coming into the country, or leaving. The Spanish C.N.I. agency and the Ministry of Security have decided that they are going to set up a “mega brain” computer and data system that will be able to access every bit of information that is not only in their existing data bank but figures somewhere on the Internet. This is being called the Registro de Nombres de Pasajeros. They are so convinced that this is feasible that companies who wish to tender for the supply of such a system have to do so by August 1st, and have it operational by early December. The cost guide is given as 1.6 million euros.

Credit cards used and bank accounts will also be logged. The aim of this computer data search is that anomalies are flagged straight away, and also the complete lack of any linked information if a person is using a false passport or credit card. Relevant information from border security or international security services in other countries will be immediately available.

Some legal experts in Spain consider that if all this information is being stored, it has to be supervised to be in accordance with the protection of personal data regulations. The National Symphony Orchestra from Cuba perform a concert of Cuban and Latin America classical and operatic lollipop excerpts on May 14th at 9.30pm, Maestro Padilla Auditorio, Almería city. The guest performer is the Cuban classical guitar player, Joaquin Clerch, who performs the guitar concerto by Cáceres. At time of going to press no ticket prices were listed. The musical “Supercalifragilistico” featuring “Peppa pig” is performed on Friday, May 8th at 8pm at the Teatro Auditorio Vera. The show is intended to appeal to families with children. The Rock Opera “Imagine” comes to Roquetas on June 6th. Exhibitions “Al-Mariyya, Puerto de Oriente” is an exhibition of objects from the time when the Moors occupied Almería city. It is made up of 300 pieces that were found in an excavation in 1930 at the site of the Grand Mezquita and at the castle in the 1940s-1950s, and i n c l u d e s i te m s f r o m t h e archaeological museum at El Ejido. Many of the pieces that have been kept at the Almería museum have not been on display before and it is considered a unique opportunity to view the collection. The exhibition runs until October 25th at the Museo de Almería, Carretera de Ronda 91, and opening hours are 10am-1.30pm and 5.15pm-8pm from Tuesdays to Saturdays, Sundays morning only. Carmen Pinteño, a noted painter from Huércal-Overa, has an exhibition entitled “La Mirada de Carmen” in Almería city, depicting her work. Two Blondes

A man is driving down the road in his pickup truck when he sees a lorry that has driven over the edge, with about twenty penguins wandering round. The truck driver flags him down and says,”Can you help me buddy? I’m taking these penguins to the zoo. My trailer is damaged, and I have to wait for the breakdown truck”. The man said, “Of course I can!”, so they loaded them up. Two hours later, the truck driver goes to the zoo to make sure the penguins have arrived safely, but they are nowhere to be seen. He starts to panic, and drives around the town for ages to see if he can find the man. Sure enough, he sees the man and the penguins come out of a cinema. “What the hell are you doing with the penguins?” he screams. The man said, “After the zoo I still had some money left, so I took them to see a film as well!”

Two blondes were sitting in a four engined plane flying back from a shopping trip to Paris when the captain’s voice came over the loudspeaker. Too Much to Drink

When we were visiting my grandmother, my husband noticed amongst her birthday cards one from the local funeral director. He was a bit puzzled, but commented, “That's nice!” My grandmother snorted, and grumbled, “Nice! I'm not impressed! They just want my body!”

A man had been out drinking all night. The bartender finally said that the bar is closing. So the man stood up to leave and fell flat on his face. He tried to stand again; same result. He figured he'll crawl outside and get some fresh air and maybe that will sober him up. Once outside he stood up and fell flat on his face. So he decided to crawl the 4 blocks to his home. When he arrived at the door he stood up and again fell over.. He crawled through the door and into his bedroom. When he reached his bed he tried one more time to stand up. This time he managed to pull himself upright, but he quickly fell right into bed and is sound asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow. He was awakened the next morning by his wife standing over him, shouting, "So, you've been out drinking again!!" "What makes you say that?" he asked, putting on an innocent look. "The pub called -- you left your wheelchair there again."

A man sits next to a beautiful blond woman on a plane. "What is the capital of Indiana?" The woman shrugs and gives the man 5 dollars. Then the woman asks the man her question. "What goes up a mountain on 3 legs and down a mountain on 4?" The man is stumped. He has no idea. He brings out his laptop and searches the internet but is unable to find the answer, so he gives the woman 100 dollars. She takes the money puts it in her purse and turns over to fall asleep. "Wait, what is the answer to the question?" So the woman hands him 5 dollars.

Drunk Driving True Love?

My local police force put in the newspaper that they were having a purge on drink-driving. They put up a large hoarding at the entrance to the town. It read, “If you drink and drive – we'll provide the chasers!”
