How To Prioritize

selfcare

The age-old advice holds true - If you don’t make a point of scheduling regular breaks for yourself, your body will go ahead and take one for you. And guess what? It probably won’t be at a very convenient time. In a society that confuses progress with productivity, more people than ever are suffering from shocking levels of burnout While self-care may be the buzzword of the moment, it’s hard not to feel like you’re being lazy when you finally relent and take some much-needed time for yourself.

So how can we break this harmful narrative and prioritise our mental and physical well-being without feeling guilty?

Take a break from social media

It’s all too easy to fall into the trap of doom-scrolling when you’re meant to be resting and taking a break. With social media feeds filled to the brim with all the amazing things everyone else is doing, it can feel like you’re wasting time not being “productive”

It’s important to remember that people only share tiny glimpses of their lives - namely, the best bits And if you find yourself feeling low and deflated after checking Instagram, try taking a break. If you ’ ve got an hour of free time, go for a walk and leave your phone at home. Paint a picture. Take a long bath. Give your mind a break from sensory overload and do something that leaves you feeling relaxed, rested and at peace

Schedule in breaks

Most people won’t argue against the fact that self-care is an instrumental part of living a happy and healthy life But with busy schedules, growing families, work overload and just about everything else you have to manage, it’s hard to find the time to really look after yourself.

Self-care is usually regarded as an afterthought as and when you get 5 minutes to yourself While 5 minutes is better than nothing, it doesn’t compare to the immeasurable benefits that come from regular breaks. So when all else fails, schedule them in.

That’s right. Pick up your diary and carve out time to do something that sparks joy. While this may feel over the top, it can be a highly effective method for people who feel like they just can’t seem to catch their breath Start with 15 minutes and gradually work your way up Once you start seeing the benefits of regular self-care, this will become a permanent fixture in your daily routine.

Connect with your inner child

Does your inner child feel vulnerable, overwhelmed or in need of protection? Instead of hiding your pain and neglecting your needs, heal your inner child with the self-care you’ve always deserved.

Think back to when you were younger and the simple pleasures that made you giddy with joy. A scoop of ice cream after a long day outside. A movie night with no phones. A day filled with arts and crafts. Sure, adulthood comes with endless responsibilities but that joy is still there. You just need to do some digging to find it.

Reflect on current relationships

If you’re feeling stressed out or on edge with life’s many demands, there’s a good chance that some of these negative feelings have crept into your personal relationships. Maybe you find yourself snapping at your spouse instead of reacting to them with kindness. Maybe you can’t remember the last time you actively played with your children instead of running through tomorrow’s to-do list. No matter the case, neglecting your needs doesn’t only affect you - it can hurt your nearest and dearest, too.

That’s why self-care is so important. If you’ve noticed that you aren’t being the person you want to be in your relationships, it’s a good sign that you need to spend some time looking after the person that matters most - you. While your mind may trick you into thinking you’re being selfish, this couldn’t be further from the truth.

Trying to pour from an empty cup helps no one. When you take the time to relax, pursue hobbies and reconnect with yourself on a deeper level, you’re working to become the best version of yourself. And when you’re feeling on top of your game, this normally results in much happier and healthier relationships with those you love most.

Remember the benefits

Self-care isn’t just for kicks. It’s an invaluable act that improves both your mental and physical health.

Self-care can help you better manage stress, lower your susceptibility to illness and give you a much-needed boost of energy. Looking after yourself doesn’t mean that all of your problems go away. But it does mean that you’re much more equipped at handling them in an effective and controlled manner.

Think of how you’re sitting right now when reading this. Is your jaw clenched? Are your shoulders up towards your chin? If you’re harbouring lots of anxiety and tension, your body will soon become affected, too.

Unclench your jaw, relax your shoulders and take a deep breath. Do you have a beloved hobby you’ve neglected for years on end? Or maybe you need to cut some things out of your life to give yourself some time to rest and recharge. Reflect on your current situation and whether or not you’d treat your younger self like this.

When elderly people are interviewed about past regrets in life, none of them ever say that they wish they worked harder. Or that they wish they spent less time doing things that they love. You’ve got one chance at this lifeyou might as well enjoy it.

glow GIVE YOUR SKIN A SUMMER UP

Sweet summertime. Long, balmy days. Fresh, seasonal meals. It’s a fleeting and memorable season filled with warmth, sunshine and happiness. But as the heat turns up and our clothes become lighter, our skin changes as well So what’s the best way to give your skin a summer glow-up that helps you look and feel your best?

Make sure you’re cleansing

As the days get warmer, our skin starts to sweat in an effort to cool us down And while sweating is a completely normal and healthy thing for us to experience, it can be a breeding ground for spots if you don’t wash your face after a long day in the sun.

Make sure you’re cleansing two times a day with a cleanser that suits your skin type It’s also recommended to incorporate the use of a face mask during the summer to draw out impurities while deeply nourishing and cleansing the skin. This is because sweat, heat and friction can easily clog your pores, leading to blemishes and spots

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!

Since warm weather increases water loss from the body, your skin can quickly become red, dry and dehydrated in the summer months To combat dry skin and to keep your skin looking bright, glowing and nourished, we recommend using a rich body lotion - especially at night. Since you’re likely to sweat and be on the go during the day, it may be best to opt for something lighter in the morning to ensure your skin doesn’t get greasy as the day goes on

Feel your best with Gua Sha

Chances are you ’ ve heard a thing or two about Gua Sha, but have you stopped to wonder if the hype is real? Known for depuffing under eye bags and brightening the skin, Gua Sha is a face-scraping technique that dates back to 220 CE. A staple in classical Chinese medicine, Gua Sha promotes lymphatic drainage which helps eliminate bloating caused by interstitial fluid.

Try using one of our luxury Gua Sha and Roll sets to really feel the effects of your facial oils and moisturisers both in the morning and at night. Regular Gua Sha use stimulates circulation, produces collagen, decreases inflammation and sculpts facial muscles It’s one of the most revered natural treatments to define your face shape over time.

Ditch the makeup

If you’re someone who wears heavy foundation during the winter, summer is a great time to let your skin breathe and heal As most people tend to develop a bit of colour during the summer months, this can eliminate the need for thick makeup products that feel uncomfortable and clog your pores. If you’re not comfortable going au natural, look into light foundation alternatives such as tinted moisturiser

Exfoliate regularly

If you’re someone who doesn’t exfoliate, now ’ s the time to start. Regular exfoliation can remove sweat, dirt and other bacteria that can cause inflammation, leading to a healthier and brighter complexion. Since your oil glands are in overdrive during the summer, exfoliation helps clear everything out which helps prevent clogged pores and promotes cell turnover.

Give your skin a summer glow-up

While skincare is a luxury that should be enjoyed year-round, it’s worth switching up your routines when experiencing different climates. This summer, practice safe sun habits and treat your skin to a glow-up rooted in self-care.

WHY OUR ANNA STARTED ELÄ LIFE

founder

Having spent time in Norway as part of her degree in her 20s, Anna quickly became inspired by the Scandinavian way of living How loved ones gathered outdoors and appreciated the healing powers of nature The lit candles in the evening instead of overhead lights. How locals valued wholesome and healthy foods that fuel and balance the body Eager to share this inspirational way of living with others, Anna created Elä Life. A wellness brand centred around transparency, indulgence and self-care.

With a passion for natural and nutritious ingredients, Anna wanted people to enjoy the many benefits that scent had to offer without the use of harmful synthetic fragrances Using only 100% essential oils, Elä Life goes a step beyond traditional skincare and self-care products

nature HOW CAN HELP YOU RESTORE

Spending time in nature can help you lower stress, boost your mood, relieve attention fatigue and more. If you ’ ve found yourself spending too much time indoors lately, try getting out and about to heal your body and mind These simple outdoor practices won’t just make you feel better emotionally, they can actually improve physical wellbeing too. Here are things you can do in nature to help you reset and restore.

Go barefoot

Remember how freeing it felt to run around barefoot as a child? Whether you were running through sand at the beach or playing in the dirt in the woods, being barefoot is one of the best ways to help you reconnect with nature. Barefoot walking can reduce inflammation, improve sleep and even increase antioxidants The next time you’re looking to ground yourself, take off your shoes and let your feet connect with the earth below you.

Look up

We’re always looking down Whether we’re consumed by our mobile phones or rushing to get from point A to point B, all too often we forget to slow down and simply look up The next time you’re outside, put your phone away and really take in the world around you. What do the clouds look like? Which way are they moving? What colours can you see? Resist the urge to rush and simply just be.

Engage in cold water therapy

When most people think of cold water, they think of an unpleasant or uncomfortable experience. After all, nothing beats a warm shower at the end of the day! But cold water therapy has a wide range of health benefits that can boost your mood, reduce pain and enhance recovery from exercise Try taking an ice bath or going for a morning swim if you’re near the sea. You won’t believe how incredible it can help you feel.

Grow your own food

There’s something so healing about growing your own food. Whether you have a herb garden on your windowsill or a more complex operation outside, connecting with nature through gardening is a wonderful way to realise the fruits of your labours while appreciating what mother nature is able to offer us

How nature can help us restore

Spending time in nature isn’t just for outdoor enthusiasts - it’s for everybody. The healing effects provided by being outside can have tremendous effects on both your mind and body. So the next time you find yourself wanting to hole up inside, get outside and reconnect with the world around you.

mind

SIMPLE WAYS TO REVIVE YOUR BODY & SOUL

Have you found yourself feeling stressed out lately? Or that you ’ ve stopped looking after your physical and mental health? If you’re feeling a bit of whack and are looking to turn things around, there are simple things you can do to help you prioritise your well-being and start to feel good again

Declutter your home and your life

Having clutter in your home and working space is a surefire way to bring on stress and anxiety into your life. Aside from making things harder to clean, having a messy space can quickly lead to a messy mind and leave you feeling on edge Devote some time to getting rid of things you don’t need and adopt a minimalist approach. This will allow you to enjoy your space again without feeling overwhelmed by the clutter.

Go outside

While some people are lucky enough to work outside, the majority of people find themselves working inside all day without coming into contact with the beauty of the outdoors. Make sure you’re taking regular breaks outside and go for a walk as and when you can. Instead of eating lunch at your desk, head to a local park and take in your surroundings Or resist turning on the TV when you get home and instead go for a hike to help you reconnect with nature.

Meditate

Meditation is one of the most powerful self-help tools available at your disposal. If you feel like your mind is moving at a million miles a minute, try meditating at various points throughout the day to help you calm down and relax. While you can choose to meditate for longer before bed, you can also engage in a powerful 5-minute guided meditation during the workday to help you reset

Eat a balanced diet

When life gets busy and we start to neglect our needs, one of the first things to go out the window is our diets. If you ’ ve found yourself feeling low after eating too much sugary and processed food, it can be hugely beneficial to increase your fruit and vegetable intake while balancing out your diet Eating healthy and nutritious foods boosts immunity, lifts your mood and can help you look and feel your best.

Look after yourself

We’ve got one go at this life. Why not ensure you ’ ve treated yourself with the love, care and kindness you deserve? Instead of rushing through your bedtime routine each night, try relaxing by investing in natural facial oils that help you feel hydrated and nourished. Improve circulation by dry brushing your skin and reaffirm the belief that you matter and are deserving of these sacred and healing moments.

Start drinking lemon water

Realigning your spirit doesn’t need to cost the earth. You can improve your hydration, skin and digestion at the same time all through the use of lemon water With known alkalising effects on the body, lemon water helps you detox and look after your insides.

Simple ways to revive your body, mind and soul

We all get out of alignment from time to time If you ’ ve found yourself drifting away from the person you want to be, start adopting these simple practices to revive your body, mind and soul. These simple day-to-day practices will quickly become habits, helping you look after your physical and mental well-being

The Benefits of Nasal Breathing

Have you ever thought about how you breathe? Really thought about it? While you may think you breathe through your nose, there’s a strong chance that you actually breathe through your mouth the majority of the time. And while this may seem normal, it can actually be causing you issues that negatively impact your health. So why exactly is breathing through your nose the preferred method of boosting oxygen consumption? Here’s what you need to know

It helps you get a good night’s sleep

More and more people are using mouth tape while they sleep to ensure they’re breathing through their noses And while this sounds slightly scary, it’s actually anything but Mouth taping can address issues such as snoring and bad breath and is seen as a natural remedy for treating sleep-related problems.

When you breathe through your nose while you sleep, you’re able to move air silently and quickly from your nose and into your lungs. When you breathe through your mouth, your body doesn’t experience the filtering aspects of nose breathing, leading to dry mouth, sore throat and feelings of fatigue.

It filters toxins

Your nose is programmed to filter toxins, moisten nasal passages and enhance circulation. Your cilia (nose hairs) act as a natural filtration system to prevent allergens and dust from entering your lungs - an incredible benefit that you just don’t get when you breathe through your mouth. The sensors in your nose can even release antimicrobial chemicals to help detect microbes in the air

It produces nitric oxide

Every time you breathe through your nose, you release nitric oxide. Nitric oxide helps widen your blood vessels, allowing nutrient-rich oxygenated blood to reach all your organs and tissues This can lower your blood pressure and lead to enhanced cardiovascular health

While this not only helps you feel better, it also helps you feel calmer. This is because nasal breathing promotes slower and deeper breathing which helps regulate our fight or flight response. This can result in a reduction in anxiety and general feelings of peace.

How can I start?

Breaking any habit in life is difficult - that’s why it’s important to remember that these things take time. Think about your breathing as you read this. Are you breathing through your nose or are you breathing through your mouth? If you find that you’re breathing through your mouth far more than you’d like, there are steps you can take to promote nasal breathing

Alternate nostrils

To breathe through your nostrils individually, simply hold one closed while breathing through the other. This is a great way to get in tune with your breathing and can be highly beneficial when meditating

Focus on your belly

Consciously breathe through your nose by taking slow and deep breaths that reach your belly The goal is to let your belly rise and fill with air Once you ’ ve taken a deep breath, exhale slowly through pursed lips.

Try counting

If you’re someone who just can’t seem to get the hang of nasal breathing, try counting Various yogic traditions encourage four to six breaths every minute. This could look like inhaling for four seconds, pausing for six and exhaling for eight or inhaling for 7 seconds, pausing and exhaling for 7 seconds There are no hard and fast rules Find what works for you.

The benefits of nasal breathing

Nasal breathing won’t happen overnight. But with a bit of time, practice and patience, you can re-train your body to consciously breathe through your nose instead of your mouth Whether you’re looking to naturally treat sleep apnea or want to reduce feelings of anxiety, nasal breathing has a wide host of benefits that can change your life.

The Benefits of Facial Massage and Face Yoga

If you ’ ve ever had a full-body massage, there’s a chance your masseuse worked their magic on your face. And while this may have felt lovely at the time, it wasn’t only done to help you relax and feel good. Facial massages and face yoga are more than skin deep. In this article, we’ll go into the various benefits that this ancient practice has on your health.

It promotes healthy skin

As the largest organ of the human body, our skin is pretty important Made up of the epidermis, dermis and subcutis, our skin provides an insight into our general health. That’s why it’s so important to treat it with the love, attention and care it deserves.

And while skincare can nourish, protect and brighten our skin, its effects are more noticeable than ever when used in conjunction with face yoga. Done to help lift and firm the muscles that exist under the skin, face yoga smooths lines and wrinkles leading to a bright and healthy complexion.

As facial massages and face yoga improve lymphatic drainage, they also boost circulation, relieve stress and release tension. Lots of people unknowingly scrunch up their faces in tense positions when they’re dealing with anxiety. Facial massage helps calm everything down and helps you experience your skin in a calm and serene state You can carry out facial massage using simply your hands, or with the addition of a Gua Sha.

When you relax the overactive muscles in your face, you can help treat clogged sinuses, prevent headaches and even enhance the quality of your sleep To feel and notice the effects of facial massage, it’s generally recommended to do 35 20-minute sessions per week.

Get started

If you’re looking to get started with face yoga, we recommend exploring our natural face oils to help assist your practice. Make sure you document your journey to see the effects that luxurious skincare and facial yoga have over time.

We have found some wonderful accounts to follow on Instagram to help you find inspiration and guidance on how to do facial massage. Anna's favourite is Fire Fly Formulagive her a follow and watch her amazing video's She does lots of short free video's but also has a subscription option where she provides longer more in depth video's and tutorials.

HowTo Recreate The Magic Of The Spa At Home

There’s nothing quite like going to the spa Gorgeous scents Stunning surroundings Complete and total relaxation. And while you may think that these moments are reserved for expensive locations, what if you were able to emulate the magic of the spa in your own home? How can you experience a spa-like atmosphere each and every day without leaving the house?

The good news? It isn’t as hard as you think.

Set the scene

One of the most appealing aspects of most spas is their minimalist design Free from clutter and mess, you’re able to relax your mind in these spacious and welcoming settings. If you find that your bathroom or bedroom is overflowing with stuff, it may be time to think about downsizing. This can help set the scene for your spa moments at home without feeling stressed out or on edge.

Next up is music. Explore various spa soundtracks to find the type of music that helps you feel calm, serene and relaxed. Engage in deep breathing exercises to leave the noise of the day behind and allow yourself to surrender to your calm and nourishing surroundings You can even light some candles to transform your room into a tranquil oasis.

Gather your products

Turn your phone off, run a bath and fill it with natural bath salts to soak your feet After long and busy days, foot baths can instantly help you relax and feel at ease. Soak your skin in natural oils that deeply hydrate your skin and take a moment to pause, breathe and reflect. If you’re someone who likes to meditate, you could try a guided session or simply practice alone in the comfort of your bedroom. If you want to relieve stress and tension, you could always try giving yourself a foot and calf massage or invest in a device that does this for you.

Wrap yourself up in a cosy robe and resist the urge to check your phone. Just like with the spa, do your best to leave the screens behind and instead focus on relaxing, reading a book or doing anything else that you find therapeutic

How to recreate the magic of the spa at home

You don’t have to go to the spa to experience the benefits of self-care. By devoting some time to yourself, transforming your space and enlisting high-quality products that make you feel good, you can recreate the magic of the spa in your own home.
