News Editor's Note

Hey giraffes!

This year is already going by so quick, we have our new elect (be sure to congratulate her), DCON is coming up, and the end of the term is nearing! This is already my penultimate newsletter, can you believe it?! (cries inside) Just a reminder to end this year strong and with a bang, make an impact, go volunteer, try out for a new position, the possibilities are endless! Thank you guys for everything you guys do, even if you don't notice it, you are making a huge impact of the world and making this a better place for everyone! On behalf of the DLT, we really appreciate all you do for not just our division, but our club, we'd be nothing without you guys! Have a great day, and see you next month!

Lieutenant Governor's Note

Thank you, Giraffes.

I CANNOT believe that this is my second to last Lieutenant Governor’s Note the term has flown by, and as my time in Key Club comes to an end, I want to thank each and every one of you for making it such a fundamental part of who I am. Being able to say that I served one of the most amazing divisions in CNH as Lieutenant Governor is something I will always carry with me, and something I am eternally grateful for. Your passion and dedication have kept me going in the hardest moments, and motivated me to put my all into this position, and for that I would like to say thank you. To my officers thank you for all the blood, sweat, and tears you have put in to making each club thrive, this term could not have been what it was without each and every one of you. To my members thank you for your amazing service. Despite being one of the smallest Divisions in the Region, our service hours are the highest. To my DLT thank you for putting up with me and for being my number one support system. Knowing you are there for me has been imperative to me throughout the term. To my elect, Jess thank you for your strength, kindness, and boldness. You remind me why I ran for this position and are everything I could want for this division, and I know you are going to be a better LTG than I ever could have been. I love you guys so so much, my giraffes, my friends, my ohana. Let’s finish the term strong! (Don’t forget DCON registration deadlines are coming up!!!)

Jessica Ortega

Hello Giraffe Ohana!

I’m Jessica Ortega, but people often call me Jess or Jessi. I am extremely humbled to be able to serve each and every one of you as the next Division 15 North Lieutenant Governor for the 20182019 Key Club term! I am a current junior at Rancho Cucamonga High School! When I am not volunteering, catch me at Starbucks, chilling in my onesies, traveling, smiling, and many times randomly whipping. I enjoy watching The Flash, eating food, and making awful puns to which everyone cringes; however, I am tragically not up to date with the modern day memes. I look forward to meeting all of you, if I have not already! It is my goal to increase division communication and to be present for every club, officer, and member throughout the term! I am here to listen to you, assist the nine individual clubs and the division as a whole, and ensure that I share the Key ClubLove that inspires me everyday. I cannot wait to see what the division has in store for the upcoming term! Please do not hesitate to approach me at any event and or contact me if you need ANYTHING! I love you all with all of my heart and I hope you have an absolutely amazing month!

Conclave & February DCM On February 3rd, the day of determining the new upcoming LTG of the 201819 term finally arrived. We first went through a quick DCM, learning how other clubs have been doing as usual. I was happy that my club ended up getting club of the month and it was awesome coming home with beautiful sunflowers. The atmosphere became tense as soon as Conclave started. Time was ticking as we all sat through the process, hearing outstanding speeches from the candidates, asking questions, and waiting under suspense as the delegates placed their vote. More time has passed and the final decision has been made. All the candidates did a great job and impressed many of us; however, only one candidate can be chosen. In the end, our Division 15N’s LTG elect ended up being the current key club president of RCHS, Jessica Ortega. Her passion and spirit for key club will immensely be cherished by all of Giraffia. I look forward to the achievements and improvements she will bring to this lovely Ohana.

STEAM

Although this event was sudden and planned very quickly, the STEAM event at Lightfoot Elementary School ran smoothly thanks to Rancho Cucamonga’s Key Club event coordinator, Travis Perales. Whenever I saw him, he was always running around trying to find a station for our members to help at. He didn’t stop until everyone was settled down in his or her post. I was assigned at a station called “Vortex Action” where you basically spin this contraption that placed two 2liter bottles together filled with water and it forms a tornado. It warmed my heart to see the fascinated faces on the kids when a tiny tornado formed within the water, but it also had me surprised. Other stations included fingerprinting, codebeading names, slime, and much more. I love attending events like these because I get an opportunity to interact with kids and to help relieve the stress of teachers in the schools by overlooking a station. This event was enjoyable mostly because I got to meet new members from Upland and Los Osos, and I got to see friends I haven’t seen in a long time.
