LIVERPOOL TO PILOT NEW “LIFE-SAVING” PEDESTRIAN CROSSINGS Liverpool City Council is set to trial a new style of potentially life-saving pedestrian crossings.
A
report to Liverpool City Council’s Cabinet, recommending the trials, has been approved and will see innovative pedestrian crossings installed at two collision hot-spots – Hanover Street/ Bold Street in the city centre and another, on a busy high street located on the outskirts of the city, (final location is yet to be confirmed). Liverpool has the highest rate of adult deaths or serious injuries (KSIs) for pedestrian collisions in the UK Metropolitan Boroughs - at 99 per 100,000 people - and these trials form part of a wider strategy devised by the council and road safety partners to help bring down that number, which has been steadily falling since 2012.
6
Bold Street, one of the UK’s most dangerous pedestrian crossings, will see the introduction of a “Gold Standard” crossing,
which looks to encourage more pedestrians to use it through embedded nudges. The second site will see the use of a “faster boarding” system – which will reduce wait times for pedestrians giving them priority over cars. The innovative designs, created by So-Mo, a behavioural science company based in the city’s Baltic Triangle, will be assessed and analysed over a two year period. The company created them following an indepth insight study into pedestrian behaviours in the urban environment.
The two test sites are: 1. Bold Street / Hanover Street - This location is within the central city area where collisions are high in the evening and throughout the night with casualties made up of pedestrians enjoying a night out. The location chosen for testing, the junctions of Bold Street / Hanover Street and Church Street, has the highest number of pedestrian casualties within the city centre, most of which occur during weekend evenings. 2. Second site TBC. A number of sites are under consideration, all of the sites have high pedestrian casualty figures and are sited along main arterial routes into the city. Collisions mainly occur during the day with casualties made up of pedestrians accessing the local amenities. It is hoped the crossings will be ready in early 2021.
Safety trial - a new style of pedestrian crossing created by Liverpool engineers designed to save lives is to be piloted in 2021.

COVID-19 face coverings advice issued PEOPLE in Liverpool are being advised to follow new government guidance in relation to wearing face coverings in enclosed public spaces to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.
N
ew advice by the government recommends the public consider wearing face coverings in shops, on Merseyrail trains and on buses to help reduce the spread of coronavirus, which has so far led to the death of more than 400 people in Liverpool’s hospitals. People are being urged not to buy medical grade masks so they can be saved for frontline health and care workers, but instead to make their own face coverings at home using a scarf or other textile items. They do not need to be worn outdoors, while exercising, in schools, in workplaces such as offices and retail, by those who may find them difficult to wear, such as children under two or primary aged children who cannot use them without assistance, or those who may have problems breathing while wearing a face covering. Instead the public is encouraged to make face coverings at home, using
scarves or other textile items that many will already own. The most effective means of preventing the spread of the virus remains following social distancing rules and washing your hands regularly. Wearing a face mask does not remove the need to self-isolate if you have symptoms. Wearing a face covering • A cloth face covering should cover your mouth and nose while allowing you to breathe comfortably. It can be as simple as a scarf or bandana that ties behind the head. • Wash your hands or use hand sanitiser before putting it on and after taking it off and after use. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth at all times and store used face coverings in a plastic bag until you have an opportunity to wash them. • Do not touch the front of the face covering, or the part of the face covering that has been in contact with your mouth and nose. Once removed, make sure you clean
any surfaces the face covering has touched. • You should wash a face covering regularly. It can go in with other laundry, using your normal detergent. • When wearing a face covering, take care to tuck away any loose ends.
Liverpool’s Director of Public Health, Matt Ashton, said: “It is really important that people understand that this is just one element of the advice we must all follow, and that face coverings are to protect others from risk of infection from you.” “It does not remove the need to follow social distancing guidelines and stay more than two metres away from each other, or self isolate at home if we have symptoms of COVID19.“ “Please remember to use the coverings properly, to wash your hands before putting them on and taking them off, so as to prevent the virus and other germs spreading in a different way.” 7

OFFICE RECEPTIONIST GEO HARRIS TALKS ABOUT HER PERFUME BUSINESS WITH FM WORLD WHICH SUPPLIES 150-200 DIFFERENT TYPES OF PERFUME AT A FRACTION OF THE PRICE OF THE HIGH STREET WHICH SHE JUGGLES GEO HARRIS ON FACEBOOK AND @GEOMAKESSCENTS ON INSTAGRAM AND TWITTER MORE PEOPLE ARE FINDING BUSINESSES THAT FIT AROUND THEIR LIFESTYLE, HOW DID YOU FIND THIS? I signed up in
February for extra pennies after trying the fragrances and instantly falling in love with the products. It fits in perfectly with my lifestyle and I enjoy doing the business around my main job, in the evenings and at weekends.
WHAT’S YOUR BESTSELLING PERFUME?
My best selling female fragrances are 20 inspired by Viktor and Rolf Flower bomb, 18 inspired by Coco Mademoiselle and 900 inspired by Tom Ford Lost Cherry. For the male fragrances, 472 inspired by Creed is definitely a bestseller and 814 inspired by 212 VIP Black is just ‘love in a bottle’. HOW WELL HAS IT TAKEN OFF? It’s been brilliant,
in March l I was off with an elbow injury so the business really took off for me. Lockdown definitely helped from both a selling point for customers buying online and at a recruitment point due to people 8 wanting a second income
or becoming unemployed/ furloughed from their main jobs. It’s taken me five months to hit the top of the ‘magnolia plan’ at 21% and there are opportunities to gain car/business trips abroad incentives. WHO ARE YOUR IDEAL CUSTOMERS? I would
say I’ve sold a lot to male customers as all men love a bargain don’t they haha, I don’t think there’s a certain market for the products as they’re suitable for everyone, which is the beauty of the business. HOW DO YOU MANAGE YOUR TIME? I fit my
business around my breaks at work, in the evening and at weekends.
HOW DID YOU COPE DURING LOCKDOWN AND WHAT DID IT TEACH YOU?
I liked having the time to do something I feel I was destined to do, something that makes me happy, I’m saving and helping my customers save money. I’ve learnt to try not stress about things that aren’t important and I appreciate life more than ever, grabbing every opportunity possible.
WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR THE SUMMER WITH YOUR BUSINESS? Build,
build, build!! I want to build and expand my team, I’m starting to make a vision board with what I’d like to achieve for the end of the year. I think it’s really important to set goals and have something to work for. I really hope to go on holiday as well. WHAT PERSONALITY TRAITS WOULD YOU RECOMMEND FOR SOMEONE WORKING FROM HOME Motivation,
a flexible working pattern, more time, freedom and balance. WHAT ADVICE DO YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE WANTING TO START A SIMILAR BUSINESS Don’t
doubt yourself, I know it’s hard to believe in yourself but always believe something fantastic is about to happen. Go for it, this is a free opportunity so you’re not paying any sign up fees or subscriptions. Step out of your comfort zone and take risks, you don’t know what is around the corner.

HART TO HART
US actor and comedian Kevin Hart coming to terms with a changing world.
T
hey say every comedian needs a solid, varied slab of life experiences to be able in to reference in the name of writing good material; so in the case of Kevin Hart, he’s got plenty to help extend a career on stage that has already netted him the best part of £30million in career earnings. “I know they say money isn’t everything, but it’s sure as hell better than having no money… and I’ve been there,” he laughs. “The way I look at what I’ve earned from comedy, is basically it’s a fee I charge for people to laugh at how crap my life has been. And there’s a part of me that’s been undercharging!” Hart’s ascent to the top of the global comedy scene – segueing into the movie and record industries in the
10
process – has certainly leant on a colourful upbringing. Included in that was his father’s cocaine addiction, visits to prisons where his elder inevitably ended up, the realities of being a single-parent child (raised by his mother, Nancy), and the pressures of dealing with a school life that, while rewarding – he went on to work at the University of Pennsylvania – was unconventional. “It’s perhaps a cliché to say that comedy saw me through those tough times, but I really think it did,” he says. ‘I think human nature sees us make one of a number of responses – that could be to laugh our way out of it, to become aggressive or angry, as has been a route for many successful sportspeople,
BY VIOLET WILDER
or to climb back into our shells. I wasn’t going to do the last one, so it was either comedy or basketball… and at 5ft 4” I wasn’t really in line for that one.” Hart scoffs, but fleeting appearances in celebrity basketball games actually revealed a latent talent that belied his stocky build. In stature, he couldn’t be further away from Dwayne Johnson, who he starred alongside in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle; yet proof that size isn’t everything came in the 40-year-old becoming the first comedian to partner with a major footwear and apparel company on
a cross-trainer. His Nike deal, and the creation of his Hustle Hart shoes, is supposed to point to the idea that everyday people can do incredible things in sport. “I think people are tired of seeing the same old stars doing amazing things with trainers and boots and all that,” says Hart. “When I was asked to launch my range in 2016 I thought I’d be moving away from that into the casual, leisure side of things – I was going to play it cool, man.” “Instead I found myself getting up at 6am going for runs. I found myself lifting weights and drinking a whole lot of protein. Then The Rock started call me for fitness advice…” he laughs. Hart elevated to the position of marathon runner, completing the New York marathon in a smidgeon over four hours. His journey from short funny guy to power-packed athlete was truly complete. “All jokes aside I wish I’d done more exercise when I was young,” he says. “I mean, I was fit; but the difference between being fit and being FIT is the difference between waking up okay and waking up truly happy. Health, just like laughter, is happiness.”
Whether owning it by pounding the pavements, spinning off a latest collection of thoughts and to entertain or abuse, or starring in any number of box office big-hitters, Hart has found peace in unexpected places. True, he has strayed off track in a drink-driving charge, and admits to have struggled with marriages. However, last year, a horrific car accident saw the comedian suffer multiple back fractures. At one point fearing he would never walk again, Hart’s gradual recovery is every bit that of a person, for once, not breaking into hysterical laughter. In a video released showing parts of his recovery, he said: “I honestly believe this was God’s way of saying ‘sit down – you’re moving too fast and you’re doing too much’.” Hart’s intense physical therapy includes weight training and pool workouts. It is a gruelling schedule that should get the star back, physically, to where he was. Mentally though, he will never be the same again. “After the accident, I see things from a whole new
perspective. My appreciation for life is through the roof.” While humility isn’t necessarily a characteristic we’d apply to the Hollywood elite, it’s evidently a taught trait that Hart is regaining. “I had a lot of humility in my youth and I think as time goes on, as you get older, that can get lost along the way. It’s nice to get it back,” he smiles. The setback hasn’t stopped him ploughing on with thoughts of new film Fatherhood. With the release has been put back until January next year in the wake of Hart’s accident, the movie provides a time-sensitive angle for reflection – it is based on Matt Logelin’s Two Kisses for Maddy: A Memoir of Loss and Love, by far the most serious subject matter he has tackled so far. “Time to wise up?” he asks, “maybe a little. Time to stop moving forward? Never!”

SALON BOSS LOUISA’S CELEBRITYBACKED RANGE IS TAKING ON THE BIG BRANDS
B
eauty therapist and salon owner Louisa Ashworth has built up a celebrity following with her own skincare brand, LA Skincare. Her LA Skincare range is a multi-tasking skin toolkit beloved by a host of famous UK names. Made exclusively in the UK using some of the most effective, results-driven ingredients in the beauty industry, the range contains just six products, which have sold in their thousands throughout the UK and Europe. Louisa owns the formulas for each product, which cost from £20 to £45, and claims they work for every skin type and condition, eradicating the need to buy a new cream or lotion when a skin issue crops up. Louisa decided to create her own products after seeing clients continually being bombarded by
16
‘miraculous’ new products in the media. “I decided to make safer, affordable products which could multi-task, and was determined to cut through the beauty industry hype which leads people to buy a new product each time their skin changes,” she said. LA Skincare’s Super Six products are parabenfree, vegan, Fair Trade and are not tested on animals. Active ingredients - including potent beta and alpha hydroxy acids, vitamin E oil and aloe vera - are widely recognised throughout the beauty industry for efficacy and safeness. “The products focus on exfoliation and stimulating skin renewal. They combat dryness, oiliness, sensitivity, break-outs, acne, stressed
skin, sun and environmental damage. You just adapt the way you use each product. It’s skincare commonsense,” claimed the beauty entrepreneur who set up in business aged 22. LA Skincare is sold at a beauty salon in Marbella, twenty salons around the UK and at www.LASkincare.co.uk
DIARY RADIO & TV PRESENTER. SASSY MUM & SOCIALITE.
W
hen I wrote my last column straight after the Lifestyle Awards with a diary full of events to host and dance competitions & rehearsals for my daughter, football for my son and endless social arrangements of theirs – I never dreamed I would be sat here actually missing tearing round like a lunatic 7 days a week without even a glimpse of a day off! This time off has given me the opportunity though to focus on some really positive things as it is so easy to look at this dreadful situation we have found ourselves in – being separated from loved ones, even worse – losing loved ones to this terrible virus, the effect it will have on us all financially, the effect its having on people’s mental health – the list could go on, each and every one of us all dealing with different problems and upset that Coronavirus has brought upon us. However, the last 8 weeks has given me time to spend with my daughter Melodie – rather than her being in dance – we’ve gone for walks – raced down sandhills – made our own Reminisce festival in the garden, cooked together, had cosy nights in watching films together – and most of all laughed together and taken advantage of the precious time that we wouldn’t normally have. It’s given me more time to spend with my mum – as even though I live with her – she had been
housebound now for almost 3 years with advanced pulmonary fibrosis – I think it given us all an insight as to how bad her life is – at the end of lockdown – we can all start going out again – mum doesn’t have that luxury! It’s given me chance to slowly ease the remote control from her grasp and actually binge watch series on Netflix together. Again – we’ve spent more time together – rather than me rushing in and out with her dinner before I dash off to host a gig. I won’t lie – it was a battle keeping my 17 year old son in during the early stages – he was at that “I’m invincible” stage, but he has now understood the importance of staying home for his Nana – and it’s nice to sit and chat with him of an evening rather than him shovelling his dinner down and heading out with his mates. Another positive is that for the first time in my life – I am doing something that I’m actually proud of. In all the years of working in radio, charities and the entertainment industry – I don’t think I have ever felt more worthy than I do working full time for St Helens & Whiston Hospitals. The team I work with are selfless – work endless hours and welcomed me onto the team in September last year – and have made me feel like I’ve always been there and I’m part of the STHK Family. I’ve been dealing
with the overwhelming amount of donations that people have generously given for staff and distributed them across all our Hospitals and people’s kindness has really helped our Staff through this terrible time. I really do feel like things happen for a reason and I feel in my heart I was destined to be here at this time, and I hope to be here for many more years to come – thank you Kim, Lynsey, Michelle, Amy & Clare for welcoming me in and for being in a part of my life I will never forget. Finally, I don’t think I had ever understood the phrase “absence makes the heart grow fonder” until this happened, I’m not the most romantic of people but being apart from my boyfriend has made me realise that I simply don’t want a life without him in it. I won’t take for granted the nights we just lay on the settee watching TV or the Friday evenings when I join him and his lovely family for dinner with the kids – as its those things I miss most. As hard as it is – Stay Alert – think of others as well as of yourself – and something I’ve been saying long before this – 2 words – BE KIND !

LIVERPOOL ONE PREPARES TO RE-OPEN ENCOURAGING EVERYONE TO: BE PATIENT: BE KIND: BE RESPONSIBLE.
L
iverpool ONE is preparing to re-open from June 15th and has reassured its visitors that they remain safe and reassured at all times: . Due to the sheer size of the estate, its open air layout and wide shopping boulevards, the team at Liverpool ONE expect people to be able to move around freely while easily observing the 2-metre safe distancing rule. Visitors will be advised to keep to the left at all times and on the upper level of South John Street, with the feature balconies, a one-way walkway will be in place. Liverpool ONE is bringing in additional hand sanitiser stations which will be positioned across the estate, staff will have face masks and gloves and the toilets will be open with no charge. As the number of shoppers allowed in stores at any one time is also likely to be restricted, designated queuing areas will be in place. There will also be revised
opening hours between 10am and 5pm, Monday to Saturday, allowing staff to avoid peak travel times. On a Sunday stores will continue to open as normal between 11am and 5pm. Steve Connolly, Estate Director at Liverpool ONE, said: “We are looking forward to welcoming our visitors back to Liverpool ONE now the Government has advised we are safe to do so, with the right conditions in place. “ “We have been working hard behind the scenes to ensure the right balance of measures are in place to protect everyone who visits us but also ensuring it will be an enjoyable experience.” “Our message is quite clear ….. Be Patient, Be Kind, Be Responsible. We want people to once again enjoy shopping and to love the experience of Liverpool ONE.”
“Yes, it will be different and we are all adjusting to a new normal but I think the vast majority of people have proved during lockdown that we can do this. We can adapt.” Steve added there has been strong interest from stores across Liverpool ONE who are keen to re-open and believes now is the time for the public to once again start supporting the local economy. He continued: “Now is the time for everyone to start supporting the local economy but in a safe way. We will be working closely with all of our stores in relation to any individual measures which they will be putting in place to protect customers.” “We urge everyone who visits us to use common sense, follow the directional and helpful signage which we will have in place across the estate and once again fall in love with that experience of shopping on the high street!” Many of the restaurants across Liverpool ONE will be offering take away and click and collect services until they are expected to re-open, which may be in July, subject to Government guidance. 19

How COVID-19 has effected his business HOW HAS THE LOCK DOWN AFFECTED YOUR BUSINESS? When the situation first started to unfold in the second week in March I took the decision to close on Saturday 21ST March, two days before the official announcement. On the 1st March we had just won England local Salon of the year 2020 at the English Hair and beauty awards and now we was closing, it was surreal and It was a hard decision at the time but felt right, thinking it may only be for a few weeks to maybe a month.
20
WHAT CHANGES HAVE YOU MADE TO YOUR BUSINESS? As the lock down progressed it became more and more apparent that this was not going to be a quick situation, we were now entering into week 6 and my mind was in complete turmoil. We was given the grant but I the world of business £10K really isn’t a lot of cash, it would clear any debts and keep us going until June. When the announcement was made that it would be the 4th July at the very earliest for the industry to re open I made one of the hardest decisions
I have ever had to make in my life. To close the salon permanently. After 8 years in business and over 9 awards, with the restrictions that were to come into place and with staff numbers low due to maternity and a few other issues that were Covid_19 related it made business sense to go out on a high. BEING OPTIMISTIC FOR THE FUTURE HOW WILL YOUR BUSINESS EVOLVE? I am generally a very optimistic person in life although this has tested me but I still do remain optimistic about the future. In regards to the business aspect I am going to become a freelance hair and makeup artist under my full name again and focus on my own career now as opposed to the salon. Now is my time and I am looking forward to where I could be in the next 12-24 months once the world is hopefully back to normal, whatever the new normal may be. HAS THE VIRUS MADE YOU EVALUATE YOUR AMBITIONS IN A POSITIVE WAY? Having almost 4 months off is the longest I
have had off since my early 20’s before I moved to France and then before I had a salon. Going from running a successful salon and doing a degree, which totaled 6070+ hrs a week to zero in a day really does put things in perspective. It made me think do I want another 8+ years doing this? The answer was no, there is more to life than having sleepless nights over a business, in the capacity that is was anyway, this isn’t the end its just a reset to a new path for me. WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOUR WILL BE DOING AFTER THIS? Go somewhere else other than Liverpool, maybe not abroad straight away but at least drive to see friends in Cornwall and have a holiday of sorts. www.andrewjosephmanion.com

moothies won’t fix a poor diet but they can make a good addition to a healthy diet, and a simple way for people to up their fruit and vegetable intake. Benefits include extra energy, which is why they’re recommended before or after a workout. Tests have proven that the minerals in smoothies help lower inflammation and decrease soreness after exercise. Fruits and vegetables are rich sources of antioxidants which prevent or delay cell damage in skin, and you can pack as many as you want into a smoothie. Berries are particularly good for this.

Mentor, matchmaker and TV host PAUL CARRICK BRUNSON talks to Lifestyle magazine. The best selling author of It’s Complicated (But It Doesn’t Have to Be). A Modern Guide to Finding and Keeping Love. WHO IS PAUL CARRICK BRUNSON?? For those people who may not know you. I consider myself, first and foremost to be a Husband, a father, a brother, a cousin, an uncle and a friend to many. And I think that’s most important beyond any professional endeavours. Next I would say I’m a mentor, Following on from that WOULD BE ENTREPRENEURSHIP. HOW EASY WAS IT FOR YOU TO TRANSITION FROM OBSCURITY TO THE HUGE SUCCESS YOU ARE TODAY? I think failing is an important lesson learned and I think something that every entrepreneur or professional needs to know, is that, this whole notion of “failing fast to succeed faster!” I think it’s important to try one thing, but try that one thing in many ways. So, I’m a big

IN AN INTERVIEW WITH AISUTIA CAPONE
advocate of the book “The One Thing”. In the book is the notion that we can tap into our greatness if we can double down and focus on one thing. YOU HAVE WORKED WITH SOME OF THE MOST INFLUENTIAL BILLIONAIRES IN THE WORLD. HOW DO YOU DEVELOP OR MAINTAIN A MINDSET THAT IS POSITIVE. OR HOW DOES SOMEONE CHANGE A NEGATIVE MINDSET TO A POSITIVE? It begins by just analysing the content you currently intake. Your daily intake. It could be the people that you speak to on a daily basis, it could be the blogs that you read, it could be the television that you listen to. It could be the music that you listen to. Whatever the content is that you intake, on a daily weekly or monthly basis. Ask yourself
simply, how much of it is inspirational, how much is aspirational and how much of it is essentially neutral and how much is negative. I believe that the most successful people, are able to make the vast majority of the content they intake aspirational and inspirational. WHAT DRIVES YOU? My motivation has changed throughout the years. You know at one point it was about money, at one point it was about status, at one point it was about self and ego. But quite honestly what drives me at this point in my life is legacy you know that’s really what its about for me. Legacy for me is not just what to my children, or what I’m leaving to my family, to my friends, to my community, to my world. That legacy category is what drives me and that’s what keeps my foot on the pedal.

EMBRACING CHANGE 2020
T
he secret of change is to focus all your energy not on fighting the old but building the new. Socrates. Never in our lifetime have we been presented with such an opportunity to re-set and to create a new way of thinking, acting, being and living. This truly is a once in a lifetime moment for all of us. Once in a lifetime moment to decide how we want our future to look, how and where we want to put our energy and focus. I know this change has been imposed on all of us across the globe but if you are fortunate enough to live in a country where you can read this magazine then you live in a country where you have the power to decide how you want things to be moving forward for you and your families Take a moment to ask yourself these 4 critical questions about your current situation. 1. What has been good about this situation personally for
you and your family? 2. What has been okay and you now feel you would want to do more of? 3. What have you not brought into your life but feel now would be a good time to? 4. What do you need to stop doing to allow you to move forward? Change is constant we know but never before has change hit us all at the same time and been so seismic. Life may have changed forever for most of us but the question has got to be, what are YOU going to do about it? We have all said at times that we want to make changes to our lifestyle; well here is the gift of opportunity. Will you eat better, exercise more, see friends and family more often, right that book, take up art, right music, take more time for yourself, help others and dedicate our time to serving others. The lists are endless and right now we have the time to think and focus on our new normals.

I appreciate it has been difficult and everyone of us will have our stories and our tales to tell of our journey and the hardships we have had to endure at times through this journey. My question is for all of us. What are you going to do about it?. We have all witnessed just how short and fragile life can be and so if we are not going to embrace change now then when! If you had total control of how your future life could be and failure wasn’t on the table, what would you attempt? The coming months will truly set us all up for the next chapter of our ever changing lives, how do you want the next chapter to read. You are the writer of your book; why not make it a best seller. To find out methods or to discuss strategies you may want to develop in these areas, email darren@dasala. co.uk or follow me on twitter @dasaladarren.

LIFE UNDER LOCKDOWN IN A VIDEO COMPANY WITH DALE WEBB
W
hen the lockdown was declared, I don’t think anyone really knew what it meant.
about changes to their services? The answer to both, obviously, was yes. has a website, social media presence or marketing campaign needs quality video content.
At first, I thought it sounded like an ideal opportunity for a bit of time off. We’d had a hectic start to the year, we had a bulging order book and an extremely healthy bank account, so I was actually looking forward to a couple of weeks at home, with Netflix, Merlot and the occasional cigar for company. But after a week or two, something changed. Firstly, we started to have board meetings via Zoom video, which we’d never done before. Immediately, we started to wonder why we all travel to attend our own meetings. A lesson for the future, there. Then the inquiries started to come in. Can we film a CEO who wants to reassure his staff about their jobs? Can we film a marketing director who wants to connect with clients
But as the business community suddenly becomes more remote, that need has become ever more vital.
We found ourselves filming remotely via webcams and then on location using safety precautions, PPE, social distancing etc. Then a biggie. Two training companies approached us. Can we put some training sessions on video, because all their travel, group sessions and seminars have been cancelled. Once again, the answer was yes. Video was already playing an increasing part in everyday business...pretty, such any organisation who
We’re not talking about amateur video which is filmed on phones. We’re talking about broadcastquality professionally filmed content, with the backing of our experienced production team. It’s about ‘humanising’ your company, showing the public who you are, and what you’re about. It’s creating a shop window for your product or service, which can be seen by anybody, anywhere. Video sells. That’s all there is to it. And in these strange times, that’s more important than ever. DALE WEBB - Commercial Director

Craig Phillips’ Monthly D I Y Welc ome Lifes tyle Read ers.. . Hi Lifestyle readers, I hope you’re all keeping safe and well during the lockdown. It’s been a trying time for all and I feel terrible for the thousands of people and families directly affected by this pandemic.
A nice bit of nostalgia is maybe good right now and I think it helps to remember how big the mental health challenges are at the moment - and not only for our doctors and nurses.
Although things have looked a bit better in recent weeks, with the easing of some restrictions, it looks like the coronavirus will be with us for a good while longer, which throws the Herculean efforts of our brave healthcare professionals and care workers into even sharper relief.
Being locked down is no walk in the park. Prolonged isolation can lead to all manner of issues and mental health charities have seen an increase in demand for their services from people suffering with anxiety, depression and other disorders.
They’re saving so many lives, so I’d like to take this opportunity to let them know how much everyone in the Phillips family appreciates their incredible work. The lockdown has cut back some of my activity but I’ve tried to do my bit. I always make a point of remembering the Hillsborough disaster, so, although the annual Run for the 96 fun-run couldn’t take place on Stanley Park, we did it virtually to raise funds for the Hillsborough Support Family Group. You may have also noticed that it’s 20 years since a certain TV show first aired, so I’ve been busy doing a few interviews. It’s good to see Davina McCall will host Big Brother when it returns to Channel 4 to show two decades’ worth of best bits.
The weather has, by and large, been helpful though and a lot of us have found refuge in our gardens, which has been shown by experts to boost mental health and wellbeing. Like many, we’ve spent as much time as we can relaxing outdoors and seeing what we can grow for ourselves. So, I thought I’d sign-off this month with a tip that might help you with your garden. Thanks for all your ongoing support. Please stay safe and stay strong. We’re all in this together.
Fitting a wall basket hanging bracket
Hanging a garden basket can add aesthetic appeal to the exterior of your home or garden, brightening things up for spring and summer. Start with a spirit level and pencil, marking where you want the bracket to go. Place your spirit level along the side and mark both holes (some larger brackets require three). Take your hammer action drill driver and ensure the hammer action setting is in place. Top tip: drill into the centre of the brick, as opposed to the mortar between them, to make it stronger. Using a masonry bit, drill two holes. Tap in 2 rawl plugs with a hammer so they are flush to the brick, place your bracket back over the prepared area and using 2 50mm screws, drive in through the bracket holes, firmly securing the bracket to the wall. You’re now ready to hook your basket on and start planting. Alternatively, the same brackets are ideal for hanging bird feeders.
All the best,
Craig

talks to Lifestyle about her new best selling book, Ben And The Bug, has shot up to number one on Amazon’s Hot Best Sellers. TELL US ABOUT BEN & THE BUG I started working on Ben and the Bug as the UK entered lockdown. My social enterprise, Split Perspectives, was just a couple of weeks old. It’s ethos, to look at stories from alternative angles in order to increase wellbeing in children and family groups. I pondered over how I could apply that theory to the Coronavirus crisis, with families facing uncertainty, hemmed in together 24/7. I believe it alleviates fear and anxiety, while also giving factual guidance on basic hygiene. WHERE DID YOU GET THE IDEA FROM? I knew I wanted the Bug to be spiky and awkward-looking but in
32
a cute, goofy kind of way. I had the poem, The Owl and the Pussy Cat going around in my head, and I wrote to that pattern. HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO WRITE? This one was a pesky little rhyme. It took a bit longer than usual. A good few rewrites. All in all, about a week. But I was always tinkering with it right up until the moment I pressed print. WERE YOU SURPRISED IT WENT TO NO 1 ON AMAZON? I certainly was. I hadn’t launched the book yet, I had merely uploaded it and finalised the categories where it would live. I woke the next morning to find it at number one. I was about
to start celebrating when I discovered Amazon was about to pull my books. For containing the words Coronavirus and Covid19. They were worried about fake news and incorrect science. They pulled the plug on my eBook. I was devastated. My heart and soul had gone into this work. The book covers basic hand hygiene, nothing much else, but nonetheless, as the process is automated. The decision will stand. It was a bittersweet day, and as my book climbs the charts in many categories, I know it’s living on borrowed time. I’ll need to find it another accessible home.
TELL ME ABOUT THE SOCIAL ENTERPRISE DELIVERING BOOKS TO SCHOOLS IN UNDERPRIVILEGED AREAS Yes, sure. Split Perspectivz looks at life from different angles, to explore, to grow, to question, to learn. With a mix of funding, commercial sponsorships, workshops and events, I aim to visit schools in underfunded areas and offer enriched workshops and materials, bringing learning to life. Helping children to really get to know who they are. Storytelling is such a versatile tool. We can use it to illustrate any point. But more importantly, through writing things down, and letting our thoughts flow, we find out who we really are and what we believe. AND WHAT WORKSHOPS DO YOU RUN I ran a workshop in Toxteth just before lockdown called Carry Love. A group of young teens coming together to write and create art around knife crime. The idea is to look and deal with the root causes rather than the symptoms, catching it before it even starts. Preventative action. We are launching a book of the same name together. Seeing the work of those young people in print will make everything worthwhile. There are
so many more in the pipeline, but any plans must, unfortunately, be put on hold until it is safe to resume. HOW HAVE YOU COPED WITH LOCKDOWN AND HOW HAS IT AFFECTED YOUR BUSINESS I’m lucky as I have a lot of garden space, so mentally, although I miss my friends and family, we have muddled through quite well. My business was markedly affected, as funding pots dried up, plans were put on hold, launches became digital and more costly as we tried to use PR to bridge the gap. More than half of an indie author’s income comes from school visits, parties, and events. A lot of work for a social entrepreneur comes from networking and meeting other like-minded people. During this period, income dropped to book sales only. My business, being fairly new, has not really been able to start yet.
Ben and
the Bug
When Ben meets Bug at the swing park, they instantly becom e the best of friends. But when everyo ne around them gets sick, Ben begins to wonder about the identity of his strange new playmate. Ben and the Bug is for familie s looking for a friendly approach to opening up discussions around Coron avirus.
WHAT DO YOU HOPE CHILDREN WILL GET FROM YOUR BOOK I hope families come away feeling thoroughly entertained, intrigued, and happy. If readers have learned a little something along the way, then that’s a bonus. AND HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT BEING A PUBLISHED AUTHOR? HAS IT ALWAYS BEEN A DREAM? I am absolutely thrilled. I only wish I could share it with my friends and family. Really share it. Internet drinks just do not cut it! DANIELLE HAMPSON Author of ‘Am I On The Spectrum?” WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO WRITE THE BOOK? I had the idea in my head for around 8 years after a close family member was diagnosed. What I began seeing in my clients as a psychotherapist was patterns of behaviour linking specific personality traits and behaviours to the autistic spectrum. No one could specifically tell me what the spectrum looked like and the autism doctor advised me to watch the big bang theory which wasn't particularly helpful. Once i linked certain behaviours to the autistic spectrum such as anxiety, depression, addiction, suicidal idealisations, anorexia, bullmenia, gender, domestic abuse and personality disorders such as borderline and bi polar. It started to make sense both to my clients and other people in industry. Science is slow to connecting these traits and there is a 25 year clinical gap before this information will be handed down to medical clinicians in practice.

WHAT DID YOU LEARN FROM WRITING THE BOOK? As a late diagnosed dyslexic myself - this was a
huge challenge personally and professionally to structure the sentences and the grammatical English. You can have the best idea’s in the world but executing them is a whole different ball game. Id like to think I learnt how to make a complex subject more easily understood for a wider audience. HOW LONG DID IT TAKE? It took a year for me to write, I set myself a deadline of a chapter a month - as a single mum with an interest in 7 business it was a hard challenge. WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO ACHIEVE? My main reason for writing this book was to raise wider awareness of a complex condition. As more and more children are being diagnosed there are generations of parents, grandparents and great grandparents out there who possess these characteristics and don't understand if they have contributed to the situation. I have devised what the spectrum could look like to the average person and have colour coded it so its easier to understand with sections. No one could explain to me what the autistic
spectrum looked like let alone what was it comprised of - so I believe in this book I’ve created a really useful tool. HAVE YOU ANY PLANS TO WRITE A SEQUEL? I do. I also have a few other book ideas going on in that brain of mine - so there's a lot going on that need to come out lol. WHAT HAVE BEEN THE CHALLENGES YOU HAVE FACED RAISING CHILDREN ON THE SPECTRUM? I think for me food was and still is a big issues with food sensitivities anorexia and bulmenic behaviours, I think meltdowns for any parent are always a big challenge, but most importantly we are who we are and our children are who they are and i hope with more understanding of the wider spectrum these challenging behaviours will be more easily recognised and by writing about them to help others is how I overcome these obstacles by greater understanding. Social Media Updates During COVID-19

or a huge amount of businesses COVID-19 has caused either a complete or significant loss of trade, particularly in the case of customer facing industries. During this time remaining mindful of your brand and keeping in touch with your customers should be a vital component of your business resilience plan. If competitors aren’t advertising, anything YOU do is more effective. If you can’t swing paid formats, there are ways to stay on top using free resources. Social media, your website and a Google MyBusiness listing are all excellent tools to help customers find you. Consumers are now operating almost exclusively in the online world and without an online presence you become invisible. At a minimum ensure you have customer facing platforms with your current opening hours and services.

Facebook and Instagram are notoriously tough on
businesses however there are new FREE features to help you widen your reach including: • Facebook Local Gift Cards: This feature puts participating local businesses in front of local consumers. • Instagram Support Local Business Sticker: Adds your story to your local Support Local Story in front of local consumers. • Instagram Deliveroo/ Ubereats Sticker: Add to your story and consumers are taken directly to your order page. • Instagram Geotags (existing feature): Adds your story to your local area story in front of local consumers. It is important to post regularly on social media. You don’t need to be an expert, simply ensure your post meets 3 objectives: • Is it relevant to your brand? • Does it encourage
interaction (poll, question, tag a friend)? • Is there a call to action (Visit Website, Order Now)? TOP TIPS: Get involved supporting your local community. Add interaction stickers to your Instagram stories. Use relevant hashtags. Do NOT use any COVID-19 related hashtags. Try promoting discounted vouchers or running giveaways for future bookings. Plan ahead. At the very least, avoid unhappy customers with up to date information. At best, use this as an opportunity to stand out from the crowd, grow your brand awareness and widen your audience to come back with a stronger brand than before!
