HELLO NOVEMBER The days may be shorter but it certainly isn’t chilly in the world of Lifestyle magazine, we’re taking the island by storm entering Limassol and increasing our distribution. We’re buzzing with excitement with so many events and craft fayres in the lead up to Christmas. Whatever you’re up to this month stay positive and don’t watch the news as it will drown you in fear and negativity. Instead of imagining an
apocalypse, how about imagining heaven on earth? It’s amazing how a positive mindset can affect your day and the success of your business and personal lives. I’m bringing a group of people to Cyprus this month on a mindful and positive healing retreat. Lots of affirmations for reaching your goals and believing in yourself, I can’t wait to share the pictures with you. May I also take this opportunity to wish my beautiful daughter
a happy 16th and my wonderful son a happy 18th birthday as well this month. Life is for living and hopefully they will enjoy a fabulous lifestyle along with you all. Until next month, stay stylish.

MUSEUM
MUSAN IN AYIA NAPA IS NOW OPEN
U
nderwater museum MUSAN is an aquatic treasure based at Penera beach in Ayia Napa and is a national treasure for Cyprus not offered anywhere else. It is the first underwater museum and sculpture exhibition of its kind anywhere in the Meditteranean. The budget for the Museum of Underwater Sculpture Ayia Napa, which opened in July, was €1.000.000 and created by the world renowned artist Jason deCaires Taylor. It offers visitors an unforgettable experience that demonstrates the relationship of humans with nature, the environment and the seabed.

The mayor of Ayia Napa said, “We proved that we do not give up in difficult times, we didn’t surrender, but we fought through adverse economic and operational conditions in our municipality so that

we can have our city, Ayia Napa and our island, Cyprus where they deserve to be. We believed that with this unique diving museum visitors will be able to enjoy an underwater oasis, which can improve our visitors’ experience while offering a new opportunity to include this destination in our preferences and explorations. Nothing is impossible with cooperation, strong vision and love, both for our municipality and for the new generation. We can set goals and achieve them”. "I took over as mayor of Ayia Napa in 2013 with
a vision to make it the best and most cosmopolitan tourist resort in the Mediterranean until 2030. To realize our vision we implemented the Integrated Tourist Experience strategy, with the aim to offer our visitors experiences and memories so that upon their return home they would carry “a piece of Ayia Napa with them” and of course the will to come back to us, thus creating repeat visitors. With this target we begun transforming Ayia Napa into a city of experiences, parks, monuments and landmarks. In this strategy it was paramount to create underwater landmarks so as to grow our diving tourism numbers. I’m positive
that every visitor of the underwater park, upon returning home, will take a little bit of Ayia Napa with them”. At the new Museum of Underwater Sculpture Ayia Napa, visitors can tour an underwater forest with 93 works of art by Jason deCaires Taylor, inspired by nature and humans. At the same time, the museum is a work of art in itself, in which nature will be an artist and will make its own interventions, over time. The sculptures have been designed and made with materials that attract marine life, and are placed at different depths, thus creating a suitable substrate for marine life at all levels. The sculptures are made of inert materials, with neutral pH, so as not to adversely affect the area. It’s a sandy area, 200 meters from the coastline of Ayia Napa and it is expected that over time the biodiversity of the area will be enriched, thanks to the museum. Museum visitors can be divers, but also swimmers with mask and snorkels. The entire project is a water journey into the relationship between man and nature, as created by the renowned Jason deCaires Taylor. The artist uses his knowledge
and skills as a sculptor, marine conservationist, underwater photographer and scuba instructor to create unique works of art, which respond to the place they are put and enhance marine life.

Cut the bacon rashers in half, stretch each piece by running the back of a kitchen knife blade along it, then wrap one around each chipolata. Heat the oil in a medium hob-safe casserole, add the pigs in blankets and brown over a medium-high heat for 4-5 minutes. Set aside. Add a splash more oil if needed, along with the butter, then add the onions and a plenty of salt and black pepper. Fry gently for 5-6 minutes until starting to soften. Stir in the garlic, then cover and simmer for 15 minutes, stirring once or twice, until the onions have softened and turned deep brown. Stir the flour into the onions, then cook for 1-2 minutes. Add the sherry, stock pot and 500ml hot water from a just-boiled kettle. Stir to combine, then add the browned pigs in blankets and the thyme. Simmer on a low-medium heat for 20 minutes until rich, thick and saucy. Meanwhile, heat the grill to high. Toast the baguette slices on each side. Spread with the mustard, then scatter with the grated cheese. Cook under the hot grill for 3-4 minutes or until the cheese has melted and is bubbling and golden. Stir a splash more sherry and the sherry vinegar into the casserole, season to taste, then serve with the cheese toasts, extra thyme leaves and some greens, if you like.

HEARING
Hear better — age better
with Economou Hearing
W
e all want to stay healthy and happy as we age, don’t we? And we all know many of the obvious ways to do it — like exercising, eating right, not smoking and getting enough sleep. But did you know our hearing plays a role in healthy aging, too? Since September is Healthy Aging Month (bet you didn’t know that?), we thought we’d share four ways hearing better can help us age better. 1. Hearing better helps keep us social and active When we hear clearly and with minimal effort, it’s easier to be engaged, maintain connections, feel a part of conversations, and stay socially active. On the other hand, people who struggle hearing often decide it’s easier to avoid social situations. They might turn down invitations, limit interactions, and become more withdrawn and isolated. Research proves that people who enjoy social relationships are more likely to live longer than those who are isolated and lonely. 2. Hearing better helps keep us alert and independent Our sense of hearing plays a huge role in how confident and independent we are, and how safe we feel when we’re out and about.
14
When we hear clearly, our spatial awareness opens up and we’re able to distinguish and react to audible cues that warn us of safety issues. When we hear without effort, we can feel less reliant on
others to “translate” or clarify what we heard, resulting in a greater sense of freedom and independence. People who can’t hear like they once could are more likely to miss warning cues, feel less confident in surroundings outside their home, and are more at risk of accidents, injuries or mishearing important information. Individuals with good hearing are two times less likely to experience accidental injuries and three times less likely to have a history of falling than those with hearing loss. 3. Hearing better can help keep us mentally sharp Numerous studies have linked hearing loss to dementia, a mental health challenge the World Health Organization predicts will triple by 2050. Experts attribute the connection to the fact that hearing loss leads to social isolation (a known risk factor for dementia), that it accelerates brain shrinkage, and that it forces the brain to “steal” energy needed for memory and thinking. An international commission on dementia prevention has
confirmed that treating hearing loss in midlife is the single biggest risk factor you can modify to help prevent dementia. 4. Hearing better brings us joy Maybe more than anything, hearing our best helps keep us positive and vibrant. Whether it’s listening to the laughter of friends, the sound of a symphony, a child’s first words, ocean waves lapping, or a bird singing outside the window, hearing keeps us engaged, active, and connected to the world around us. According to a Yale study, optimism and a positive outlook adds 7.5 years to our life, while other research has shown it may reduce the risk of depression, heart disease and other chronic illnesses. If you’ve got hearing loss and want to be proactive about potential brain health issues, we can help. Simply call at 77772627 and book a free hearing consultation with one of our hearing healthcare professionals in your area, who can test your hearing and consult with you about treatment options available to you.

DATING
Lifestyle welcomes new columnist, international matchmaker Lara Besbrode
T
his winter, there’s no reason to be single. With lockdowns out of the way, there’s plenty of opportunity for you to get out there and meet someone. If it’s been a while since you headed out on your first date, or if you simply need a quick refresher, The Matchmaker UK has lined up the best tips on preparing for a first autumn or winter date. Whether you choose to go for an outdoor walk or bundle up by a fire, here are our best winter dating tips:
If you want to make a strong first impression, give some thought to the impression you want to leave your date with, whether it’s a stylish outfit or fresh-from-thesalon hair. Whatever you choose, make sure you feel confident and comfortable in your own skin! Impressions are more than just about looks, however. In the name of good dating etiquette, make sure you show up on time, be courteous and respectful.
1.Keep it simple: The first date is your opportunity to learn something about each other. To have an engaging conversation, be curious and ask questions, but make sure you take the time to listen, too. Get to know your date by keeping the conversation on them. What are their passions? Who inspires them most? You’ll never know unless you ask.
3. Be honest and patient with yourself (and your date!): If you had a stimulating conversation and can’t wait for the next date, share your feelings while you’re still there. But if the sparks didn’t fly the first time around, take some time to think about what you liked and didn’t like. Whatever you do, don’t leave your date hanging. Remember, it takes time to get to know someone and sometimes, it takes a little longer than the first date to feel the chemistry.
2. Make a strong first impression: It’s hard to look bad in a comfortable, black jumper or cardigan. 16
It’s time to get out there and start dating! Don’t have a date? Don’t despair. Tap into the matchmaking magic of Lara Besbrode and her professional team of dating experts at The Matchmaker UK. With the help of an accredited matchmaker and internationally-certified professional, Lara is passionate about creating unique introductions. Using a 30-point matching system, The Matchmaker UK’s discreet, premium and confidential approach makes the stars align - so you can meet your match sooner! AUTHOR
Lifestyle chats to author Sue Kythreotou What is your background? I was born and raised in beautiful South Africa where my love for nature was cultivated. I moved to Cyprus after my studies and have been working with children, as a teacher and counsellor, for many years. Since I also have a specialisation in theatre in education, I was involved in directing the theatrical shows at the schools I have worked at. In recent years, I made a decision to work part time in order to fulfill my dreams, and one of those is to write children's literature. I currently live in Cyprus with my husband and two children. When did you come up with the idea of the book? My son, Lucas, often experienced nightmares as a child due to an overactive imagination so I was inspired to write 'Lucas and the Tree.' I wrote the first draft about 20 years ago, put it in a drawer and forgot about it until I finally had the chance to edit and publish it. 18
How long did it take you to write? I can't
remember how long the first draft took but it was quite quick. When I started working on it the second time round, I put more thought into it and it took a few hours to edit. It was easy to write because I had lived through the experience and so it poured out of me and onto the paper. What is the outline of the story? The story is about a little boy, Lucas who loves to play under the shade of the mulberry tree where he listens to the birds and often just lies there and daydreams.
One night as he's about to fall asleep he suddenly hears a strange noise and he begins to imagine what it might be. He calls out to his mum who comes to his rescue and with her support, love and patience, together they try to discover what the strange noise is. Mum teaches Lucas to be courageous and soon they are both pleasantly surprised when they finally find out what it is. What age is it suitable for? The story is for children from 4 up to and including 8 year
olds. The story may also be used by educators of the senior primary school to discuss the use of figures of speech in writing or for a PSHE lesson to discuss the emotion of fear and the importance of taking care of the environment. Who was the book published with? Lucas and the Tree is a Bookworm publication and can be purchased at bookstores in Cyprus as well as directly from me. It is also available at: Crazy Cow Gifts, which is an online store. Amazon as an ebook https://www.amazon. co.uk/dp/B08RS99HNM Not So Big Fish as an animated interactive ebook. https://notsofishy. shop/collections/ childrens-interactiveebooks/lucas How easy is it to publish? Since I didn't know much about publishing it was difficult. It was a learning journey where I needed to do research and I asked a lot of questions. I tried submitting my book abroad and it was accepted but since I wanted to be part of the whole publishing journey,(hands on) I
made a decision to do it locally. What helped the most is when I went to a bookstore and found books by Cypriot authors, looked to see who the publishers were, and then chose one that seemed to be the most appropriate. Thankfully my submission was accepted and the book was finally published. It took time and effort but I finally got there. What are you most proud of? Firstly, my family-my children and husband and then of course the fact that I was able to publish 'Lucas and the Tree. Will there be a follow up? I'm hoping to publish another book
in the near future which is not a follow up but a completely different story. How disciplined do you need to be to write? I believe that when one writes about real experiences it is easier than just making one up. One needs to be inspired to write and usually this inspiration comes from our experiences. It takes time, effort and creativity to edit a story and to make it appealing to the reader. If you want to get the job done then you have to be disciplined and consistent. BUSINESS
Secure Corporate and Domestic Storage in Cyprus
C
hange is bound to happen. Renovation, relocation, remodelling. All these rank as one of the most stressful life events. Your life and work are disrupted as you make adjustments and changes to your daily routine. Additionally, organising, packing and keeping track of your belongings is a hassle. Then, once you move, you have to figure out where to put all your items. Luckily, you can take away some of that stress by storing your possessions
22
at Peter Morton Removals storage facilities! At PMR, one of the core values is to make customers life as stress-free as possible. Renovation, Relocation and Remodelling, do not have to be stressful life events. Due to increased demand a few years ago, Peter Morton made a considerable investment and sourced a dedicated, massive storage facility on a 7,500 square meter site. Right now, it is ranked as the largest and safest storage facility in Cyprus. At PMR, the storage crates are made of wood and are 250 cubic ft each in size. The storage facilities are approved by BAR (British Association of Removers) and all crates are manufactured and imported from the UK. It’s easy to store items anywhere, but our warehouse is both convenient and protected. Considering
your belongings’ safety ahead of time will save you the stress of having to replace something later or potentially losing something irreplaceable, expensive or dear to your heart. Additionally, the warehouse itself and all goods that are in the store are fully insured! With the recent increase in Cyprus crime rates, storing valuable goods at home doesn’t seem like a safe option any longer. Unlike houses, storage facilities offer more security to stored items. At Peter Morton Removals, the whole facility is covered by a state-of-the-art security system monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Three freerunning guard dogs also patrol the premises. It is, therefore, wiser to store valuable items in a
storage unit rather than in the garage or basement of our houses. Peter Morton Removals domestic storage crates are all individually numbered. They are loaded on to purposebuilt vehicles and brought to your house, ready to be loaded by the PMR team. Upon loading of each crate, with a full inventory, the doors will be secured. On arrival of the PMR vehicle back at a secure warehouse, your numbered crate will be placed back in its specific row by a forklift. This means your goods are not handled anymore from when collected. A LIFESTYLE OF WELLN
Self Discovery Through Your Birthday Good day beautiful reader, I am excited to share this time of wellness with you. How successful you are with your Wellness largely depends on how well you know yourself. The journey of self discovery can be very revealing and most transformative. The good news is that you can make your self discovery fun. Since ancient times the stars in the sky have not only helped humanity navigate in travel but, also have helped to navigate within the self. Every ancient culture has at least one system of using your date of birth to tell you more about your likely nature and the gifts you possess. Many of these systems look at the stars that were in the sky at the time of your birth to tell you more about who you are. For some this may seem like a load of hocus pocus, but even the biggest sceptic can’t deny the power of the Sun and the Moon on earth and its inhabitants. If the moon can move the whole ocean every month and you are mostly water you can only imagine 26
what the moon does to you. So, if these giant floating bodies in the sky make our earth function in ways we can clearly witness then, surely, it is safe to assume that all the other stars we can see with the naked eye at night also have some influence on shaping us and our reality too. These stars I speak of are the zodiacs. The zodiacs are part of Astrology, here probably the most important influences in your life are the Sun, Moon and Ascendant signs, as well as your North and South node’s to understand the purpose of your life. There are numerous systems of self discovery that you can access for free on the internet or seek out the help of a professional in the field. Some of my favorites are Birth chart Astrology, Numerology and Mayan calendar day. Nature v Nurture argument is about if

nature determines the way a person is or how they are brought up. What you discover in your charts is a clue towards your nature, yet it is the nurture you have received and continue to give yourself that will determine who you become. You can use the information to avoid unnecessary traps of your nature and instead focus on your strengths to grow into the best version of who you are. With joy, Ekaterina Sophia

MUSIC
NOVEMBER is here and is the month to be thankful. Be thankful for MUSIC, LIVE MUSIC and MUSICIANS PRIVATE GARDEN When I mention Private Garden, I’m not referring to someone’s private garden but to the latest Rock trio who are causing a bit of a stir on the island’s music scene. Believe me, when you see them perform you will see that there is nothing private about their feelings towards their music. The band formed in 2019 and is the result of three talented musicians. All have impressive resumes, involved with different projects but passionate enough to create this new dynamic band. Their authentic and quality sound is classed as alternative Rock a powerful blend of Garage, Rock, Grunge and Blues Rock with deep heavy riffs, bluesy gravely vocals and drum grooves. The mastership of their instruments results in songs which are exceptional in their chosen genre, producing foot stomping tunes and 32

Their debut EP titled ‘MR TV’ which has four tracks is ready to be released. Earlier in October their new music video for the single, Liza, was released and has already hit 35,000 views on YouTube, proving just how good they are. I was fortunate enough to see them perform a couple of times recently and pleased to see them being booked at venues island wide and attracting the attention they deserve. Catch Stefanos,
From their single BONES - ‘If there’s one thing, I’m sure……my dreams are worth fighting for’. November sees the exciting return of the extended edition of
FENGAROS FESTIVAL – FENGAROS REACTS VOLUME 2. Summed up, it can be described as a showcase of Cypriot
talent. The island is flourishing with many talented musicians and ten of these have been chosen to participate. Some events refuse to be beaten and react in a positive way by re-inventing itself and giving us FENGAROS REACTS. Determination, passion, and love for music of different genres drives the organizers to continue, even though not in its physical format, allowing local Cypriot acts the opportunity to perform and share a platform accessible by many. Due to the success and outpour for support for Fengaros Reacts 1 earlier in the 2021, Part 2 will be airing between the 2nd to the 21st November. The online digital event can be found on the FENGAROS Facebook page and on the Louvana Records YouTube channel. Everyone can tune in for free and support the event and musicians by purchasing the merchandise available. Buy the t-shirts, wear the t-shirts….support FENGAROS!! Remember, it’s always important to support local musicians and Live music… Life without music is like a journey through a desert! 33
