CHRISTMAS IN CYPRUS
C
hristmas events will take place this year but the government recommendations (at the time of going to print) is that all festivities are to be held outdoors and attendees to present a negative rapid antigen test that is not older than 48 hours. This applies to vaccinated and unvaccinated people. Despite coronavirus restrictions, five mountain communities are still going ahead with hosting Christmas villages for the first time this winter, the deputy ministry of tourism announced on Monday. Between December 10 and January 6, Christmas villages will operate in Agros,
Kyperounta, Platres, Kalopanayiotis and Kakopetria from 11am to 4pm on weekdays and until 6pm on weekends, the deputy ministry said. The villages will be decorated and illuminated in a festive spirit to the sound of Christmas carols, while offering an authentic taste of the mountain areas. The festive villages will host restaurants and ‘houses’ with local products and handicrafts for sale and the initiative will also include workshops on crafts and wine, village tours as well as other nature activities such as walking in nature trails and cycling. Coronavirus measures mean that the villages will not be able to provide quite the Christmas experience they had originally
hoped. No musical and theatrical events will take place, and no playgrounds will operate to avoid overcrowding. Also, the consumption of food and beverages will not be allowed in the streets, only in restaurants and cafes Access to workshops, tourist accommodations, restaurants and kiosks will only be allowed with the presentation of a SafePass. The tourism ministry hopes that the Christmas villages will provide a great opportunity to take advantage of the domestic tourism incentive plan which offers state-subsidised accommodation in the area.

When I sold my business and moved to Cyprus, too keep myself busy I took some courses on styling and colour consultancy and then the shop became available and it seemed like a great opportunity. I think clothes and how you wear them are a fabulous way of expressing yourself and a little bit like art. 2 small oranges or 1 large 1 bottle of affordable Merlot, Zinfandel or Garnacha (also called Grenache) ¼ cup brandy 1 to 2 tablespoons maple syrup or honey, to taste 2 whole cinnamon sticks 3 star anise 4 whole cloves Optional garnishes: Fresh whole cranberries (about ¼ cup), cinnamon sticks, additional orange rounds or half moons.
To prepare the oranges, if using 2 small, slice one orange into rounds and slice the other in half. If using 1 large orange, slice it in half through the round middle, then slice one of the halves into rounds. Place the rounds into a medium heavy-bottomed pot or small Dutch oven. Squeeze the juice from the remaining oranges into the pot. Pour the wine into the pot, followed by the brandy. Add 1 tablespoon of the sweetener for now. Add the cinnamon sticks, star anise and cloves. Warm the mixture over medium heat until steaming (about 5 minutes), and keep an eye on it. When you start seeing the tiniest of bubbles at the surface, reduce the heat to the lowest of low. Carefully taste, and add another tablespoon of sweetener if it’s not sweet enough for your liking. If it’s not spicy enough to suit your preferences, continue cooking over very low heat for 5 to 10 more minutes. Serve in mugs with your desired garnishes! If you’re adding cranberries as I did, you can add them to the pot to make it look extra festive. If you expect to polish off the mulled wine within 20 minutes or so, you can keep it on the stove over extra-low heat (it will become more spicy with time). Otherwise, remove it from the heat, cover, and rewarm over low heat if necessary. Leftovers will keep in the refrigerator for a couple of days, covered (pour it through a strainer if you don’t want it to become any more spicy than it already is).

CAT CAFE
Lifestyle magazine visited CopsCats Cafe on Dhekelia Road, as they opened their doors to everyone last month.
T
he spacious and well designed cafe is open downstairs with vet service at the back, where rescued cats can be spayed and neutered. The venue also hosts a foster area for abandoned kittens and cats upstairs, with chill out rooms for nervous cats. CopsCats is the brainchild of Kathi Neisel and her friend Anna-Louise Woelke.

Originally from Germany they settled in Cyprus 5 years ago. Kathi said, “We registered charity so every profit goes into looking after the stray cats.At the moment we have 15 cats but more are waiting to come to us. We also cooperate with bigger vet clinics. Some need intensive care, most are from car accidents or poisoning and the common diseases in Cyprus. We only look after sick or stray cats that wouldn’t survive one the. But what we really focus on is neutering to stop them reproducing because that is a big problem on the island. I set up the charity after finding stray kittens on the beach, I bottle-fed them and realized the only solution to solve the misery and help the strays cats is to neuter them. It´s not just the female cats that needs to be done, it`s also important to neuter the males to stop them fighting and spread diseases." The cafe is open Mondays to Fridays from 9 am to 6 pm and Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm during the off-season.

storage unit rather than in the garage or basement of our houses. Peter Morton Removals domestic storage crates are all individually numbered. They are loaded on to purposebuilt vehicles and brought to your house, ready to be loaded by the PMR team. Upon loading of each crate, with a full inventory, the doors will be secured. On arrival of the PMR vehicle back at a secure warehouse, your numbered crate will be placed back in its specific row by a forklift. This means your goods are not handled anymore from when collected. The redelivery process works exactly the same but in
reverse. Every crate that arrives at the warehouse is logged on to the computer system. You can access your domestic storage crates at any time by appointment with the office.

You’ve got shit loads of skills in many different areas and you know you’re good at them too. But that’s the problem. There’s just ‘too many’ things to choose from. It’s impossible and you’re stuck. Well, you’re not stuck. So you can RELAX and just chill for a sec… :) Right… Just in case you’ve been worrying yourself silly Because I know I did.

• You’re NOT weird • And you’re NOT broken So, you can stop torturing yourself now. There’s no rule saying we have to choose to be one thing. What you want to be when you leave school may very well not be the thing you want to be in your 30s or 40s. And that’s fine. I didn’t choose to be one thing. At least not after I found out I was a “multi-passionate entrepreneur.” Yep. There’s loads of us… And you know what? It’s brilliant. You get to be whatever you want without feeling guilty. So start showing up as a proud multi-passionate. Just relax and start experimenting with different ideas. Don’t try to ‘think’ your way to your purpose. Your truth is in your heart.
And… You can make serious money doing it.
So you just need to enjoy trying a few things on for size. You can’t get it wrong so don’t stress on it.
Being a multi-passionate (a term coined my Marie Forleo), is a strength. It’s an ASSET. Not a weakness.

o you remember seeing an artist perform and saying ‘WOW’!? That was my reaction when I saw BIASED BEAST aka Christopher Elias for the
first time, the popular and upcoming Cypriot artist and performer. When Christopher first contacted me to perform at Savino Live, I was a bit hesitant as,

truthfully, I had never heard him sing or see him perform before but he assured me that he would fill the venue, and he did, TWICE!! That was enough to draw me into his beast world. Infact, he’s anything but a beast, the beast is his fiery passion and wild hunger for his music, performances and life. His dream of performing led him onto the path he is today and even though young in years, he is wise on his outlook on life. He is super talented and last year released two original songs; I AM YOU and BUSY. Songs that reflect his experiences in New York and life lessons. Christopher studied at the Stella Adler school in New York, and it’s plainly 32
obvious that the spirit of this metropolis helped him create his alter ego identity, exposing his inner self and deep senses. The two worlds of Biased Beast reflect a tremendous power that he shares with his audience, attempting to inspire everyone to feel strong and confident. Each of his performances include a combination of old and new songs, disco, Rock, pop – from Abba to Led Zeppelin, Lady Gaga to Bon Jovi, Robbie Willaims to Queen and Bee Gees. He will have you up on your feet moving and singing along. With his great stage presence, he has young fans reaching out to him and older ones, looking on with admiration. Biased Beast is the epitome of positivity and his love for what he does sparkles through him and his shiny outfits! Another new artist on our shores, is ALEXIS SUNDER. I find it refreshing when new names pop up especially if they are local, whether it’s a Live event or an online one, as we are becoming accustomed to nowadays. New times, new approaches. ALEXIS SUNDER is one of the musicians who piqued my interest when he performed at the recent Fengaros Reacts. A Cypriot song writer raised in the UK with European influences, whose music is a blend of soul and funk, with Blues grooves and pop beats, which create story telling songs born from personal experiences. He sings from the depths of his soul in a groove driven direction, which I’m definitely going to follow.
Sunder’s musical background includes being the band leader of Brussels band Bowtie Collective, covering soul, swing, jazz and funk. Most recently he has been experimenting and collaborating with selective song writers and musicians across Europe. Now based in Cyprus, he is working on his solo debut EP which is set to be released in mid 2022. I am positive that we will be hearing more from Alexis Sunder and his band and will see his name appear at various events in the near future. He has a warm demeanor, smooth vocals and humble approach which originally attracted me to his playing. If you need some music for the soul and some feel good vibes, then I recommend this artist.
