GREETINGS AND HELLO Anastasia Slepukhova Key Club International Trustee Alabama/CNH KIWIN’S/New York

Happy Fall CNH KIWIN’S! I know just how busy yours lives have gotten now that school has commenced, but the start of schools also marks the start of Key Club! Can you believe it?! Are you ready for another great year of service? The secret to having a large club is having an awesome recruitment drive in the beginning of the year, to start off strong. As you plan and conduct your Club Rushes and first meetings, remember to plan everything around the members, with large fellowship and service components. Plaster your school walls with posters, make cool videos & pass out fliers! You can make first year members feel special by organizing welcome ceremony for them & inviting their parents along with local Kiwanians. Make meetings move by having guest speakers, ice breakers, food and mini service projects. However, the most important thing to remember is to greet every member with a big smile and allow your passion for KIWIN’S and service to exuberate as you share it with them. I am very excited to announce that your clubs will receive the Key Club magazine sometime this month! Unfortunately, many advisors don’t pass them out unless asked by a member so if you have not yet received your magazine, please be sure to ask your faculty adviser! I would also like to mention that the Key Club magazine is one of the main Directives for the International Committee for Internal 0vDevelopment, for which I am the chair of. If you have any feedback on the magazine, or any ideas with how we can improve it, please be sure to email me and let me know. Another important update to mention is that the Membership Update Center(MUC) will open on Monday, September 14th for clubs to begin to register their paid members and officers. It is very important that your clubs are in good standing in order to receive all of the benefits of our awesome organization! If you have any problems with the MUC or any other aspects of the Dues Collection process, please don’t hesitate to let me know. Finally, I wanted to wish you all the best of luck with your District, Divisional, Club & individual goals. Your District Board has been working tirelessly to make many resources available, to make your jobs easier. Be sure to check them out as they are filled with a wealth

of useful information that will make project planning and fundraising that much efficient. Unfortunately, we only have half a year left until the District Convention. Don’t take any moment for granted because time flies by faster than any of us want it to. Thank you so much for all that you do, everybody! Keep up the hard work, push to get those dues in, and have a lovely month! I really hope you all attend your Fall Rallies & have a great time with your friends & Lt.Governoers. As always, if you need anything at all, I’m only an email or phone call away. Yours in Service, Anastasia Slepukhova slepukhova.anastasia@gmail.com

OS Kathy Bui CNH KIWIN’S District Treasurer Hellooo CNH KIWIN’S!! It is your fave District Treasurer here and in the next two minutes you will get to go along my KIWIN’S journey and find out why I am so passionate about our little Ohana. But first the mandatory “all about me’s” are in order so without further ado… My favorite foods are street tacos, sushi, and burgers; my favorite sport is shopping; I love to paint in my free time; and I love watching The Office and Psych. I am attending my fourth and final year of high school at Edison High in Huntington Beach, and am part of the rowdy Jet Jet Jet! Division. In the future I hope to pursue a career in either business or international law but for now I am still trudging through the murky swamps of SATs and college applications. My beginning in KIWIN’S was not an unlikely one. I had preexisting friends in the club so I naturally gravitated towards the meetings during lunch on Thursdays simply because all my friends would be there. The KIWIN’S club at Edison was diminutive when I first joined freshman year. Events were attended mostly by just board members and they held no real sense of passion for the club. It was apparent to the members that this club was just another filler on their college application and they could care less about its success. However, the next year something changed. Board members were funny, vibrant, and inclusive. Edison KIWIN’S had its first successful fundraiser in years, and the treasurer brought the club to new heights, and she is still someone who inspires me today. Fast forward to the end of sophomore year, no one was running for the position of Club Treasurer and I was peer pressured by friends to run, and I ultimately did it as a favor for my best friend who was running for Club President (Richie Chu if that rings a bell for anyone). I really fell in love with KIWIN’S during my term. I was

mind blown at how inclusive and caring everyone was at my first Divisional Council Meeting. I had never met a group of people who were all friends with each other regardless of grade level or appearances. Everyone had such a huge variety of interests and talents yet were bonded by the love of service and community. I swear I blanked out for a minute and it was like everyone started spitting mad fire from “Stick to the Quo”. From then, the rest is history. I ran for District Board because I really wanted to be on a level that I could reach out to members and inspire them like I was. To see someone truly passionate and in love with an organization like KIWIN’S is mesmerizing and to experience it personally is truly a life changing experience. KIWIN’S has given me so much and the only regret I have is not joining it earlier. Yours in Service, Kathy Bui kiwins.dtreasurer@gmail.com

LETTER TO THE EDITOR Q: Why is this year’s theme for DCON a circus? A: District Board wanted to focus on service and a type of celebration for our 40th year as a district. Thus, “Cirque du Service: The 40th Spectacular”-our District Convention theme slogan-hits the bulls eye for all the criteria. Q: How do District Committees work? A: District Committees are assigned by the District Governor and the Committee Heads are composed of District Board. The committee members are chosen through an application process in the beginning of the term and what each committee does is assigned through directives by the District Governor.

Q: How are Lieutenant Governors elected? A:Lieutenant Governors are elected on a divisional level during Conclave in the month of March. They make a speech in front of their division and the division appoints two members from each school as representatives for election.

MONTHLY DIVISON FEATURE Ashely Abing President St. Lucy’s Goldstone Division

The month of September has been such a collaborative and productive effort from Goldstone! It is evident that the tight-knit sentiment within the division had been strengthened. On September 12th, they held their first ever interclub service project with Circle K at California Polytechnic University (Cal Poly Pomona), called Strings of Friendship. The high school KIWIN’S clubs were given the opportunity to meet Circle K college students to make friendship bracelets that will be distributed to foster children in the district of Merced. As the academic school year had just commenced, many attendees were new, incoming KIWIN’S members. Working with the Circle K

members allowed the KIWINers to recognize that the service does not have to conclude in high school— they can continue the journey of service they embarked on throughout their lives. On September 19th, Goldstone hosted its September DCM at Sycamore Canyon Park in Diamond Bar. The DCM was followed by a service project to create care packages for the homeless. Additionally, members were given the opportunity to engage in friendly competition amongst themselves in a scavenger hunt. Different Goldstone cheers were hidden throughout the park by Divisional Executive Assistant, Allana Elarmo and St. Lucy’s Priory Publicity and Awards Chair, Heather Robles. After all five cheers had been acquired, the

winning team was required to recite the cheers correctly, which would then earn them various prizes chosen by Lieutenant Governor, Sophia Uemura. Afterwards, each member created care packages with the supplies each school was designated to bring, such as shampoo, razors, deodorant, toothbrushes, snacks, etc. Packages were sent home with club presidents to be donated to their local homeless shelters. A series of competitive ice breakers entertainingly concluded the event.

MONTHLY CLUB FEATURE Angela Nguyen President Fountain Valley Jet Division

Fountain Valley KIWIN’S had a very exciting past month. It started off with Club Rush on September 9th through September 11th, where we were able to gain about 300 sign ups! We cheered our hearts out and shared our welcoming KIWIN’S spirit. On September 14th, we had our very first club meeting with about 237 people! To show the new members how amazing KIWIN’S is, we planned many events for the month. The events had high attendance numbers and good vibes so we knew that the members enjoyed them. We had a total of 7 service events ending off with 344 hours for the month! One of the events that we volunteered at was the Moon Festival where members helped set up the event and pass out art supplies to the children who were doing the Art Contest. We also volunteered at the Hyundai Hope on Wheels Run/Walk at the Fountain Valley Sports Complex. Members were able to help out in multiple jobs such as registration of races and volunteers, cheering on the runners, production assistance, etc. We were able to gain a lot of new members during these past events and are looking forward to showing them the KIWIN’S world!
