TEEZILY POST - OCTOBER / NOVEMBER

INTRO Howly Zilers! Wow ... it really is an honor for me to introduce the fourth edition of Post Teezily. For those who do not know me, here is a short introduction: pasta-lover, 100% Italian origins (Tuscany, I mean... nothing better! ;-) ) but Parisian by adoption and madly in love with the rhythm and charm of the French capital. At Teezily, I manage the «Communication & Content» team. I joined the cheerful Teezily family two years ago, in late September 2014: this month I am celebrating my 2nd anniversary! Being a veteran of the TZ world has many advantages: first, having met many of you during the initial phase of our platform and thus being able to thank you for the trust you gave us and for having been directly part of the success of our business. We have repeated it so many times, but it is never enough: thank you Zilers for your outstanding support and for always being an incredible source of inspiration! In addition, one of the added values of Teezily is certainly represented by the internal resources: team-building and a willingness to help each other have always been key-strengths of our company. Over the years we have developed a relationship that goes beyond mere professional collaboration, as Head of Communication, I can only but highlight the importance of dialogue, sharing and, why not, of organising «soirées» or group activities in order to enhance the ties and spend quality time together after office hours. Concerning the Teezily Post, this is one of the projects that has enthralled me the most in 2016. Our editiorial team always tries to find meaningful and useful content to help you launch successful campaigns and boosting sales. Once again, I invite you to send us any critique / suggestion / feedback. Well, I hope you enjoy reading of this incredibly rich edition: it was extremely difficult to condense all the updates and important announcements of this fall, but we did our best! Keep on Teeziling! Angelica

OCTOBER / NOVEMBER - TEEZILY POST

Reto Stuber ! ‘’CARPE DIEM - SEIZE THE DAY SUNRISES YOU YOU DON’T KNOW HOW MANY OF TODAY!’’ OUT BEST E TH MAKE SO , FT LE HAVE blishing company (stuberpublishing.com), a product review platform (shoppingtests.com), software tools and online trainings . BUT I WAS DEAD WRONG! What really motivated you to join Teezily, and is this your full time job?

Could you share with us your journey with Teezily?

I feel very grateful that I am able to share my experiences and what I’ve learned along the way. But first and foremost, I wanted to take the opportunity and thank my business partner Sebastian. He is responsible for many of our lucrative designs and has built a strong foundation for the business. Before we started our first campaign, I was hesitant on starting a t-shirt business, even though I saw a number of people being pretty successful with it. My concern was, that it is a fad and that I wanted to focus my energy on building long-term assets in the other businesses I am involved in, e.g. my book pu-

Luckily, we tried it out - what was there to lose? We had an established Facebook fan base in the pet niche, and just needed a design to test our first t-shirt campaign. The design was pretty bad by today’s standards, but we still managed to successfully sell our first 50 shirts - even though we had to buy the last couple ones ourselves, to ensure that they would get printed at the time :-). There was one thing we were missing, and that was the customer data. Luckily, Teezily covered that base as well with the Teezily Plus platform, where the customer buys directly from us (we collect the payment), and Teezily fulfils the order and sends it to the customer. This allows us to sell through our own website / Shopify store and expand our reach to other platforms like Amazon, eBay etc. How do you work together with your partner, and how are you guys organized?

Seb is from Germany and lives in Paris, I am from Switzerland and live in New York. Therefore, it was not possible for us to “just meet at the office” and work on the campaigns together. It actually took almost two years until we finally met each other in person,

TEEZILY POST - OCTOBER / NOVEMBER

thanks to Teezily (more on that story a little bit later). In the beginning, we were doing almost every aspect of the business ourselves, except the designs. We would communicate mostly on Skype and via email. Then we started working with designers and added administrative assistants and customer support to the team. To have a better overview, we moved the whole process to Trello.com. Trello is a fabulous tool to collaborate with others, and to ensure that every bit of information is easily accessible. What would you tell someone who is just starting out?

My advice for people starting out: hold yourself accountable by having a partner who works together with you, or at least by committing to someone so that when you say you are going to do something it actually gets done. Start building a team early on and outsource all the things that you are not a specialist in (e.g. design), don’t want to do yourself (e.g. check Facebook comments) or tasks which are repetitive (e.g. launching campaigns, creating ads, …). Instead, focus on the things were the money is (e.g. researching niches, coming up with new concepts, finding audiences, analysing data, scaling, …). If you want to make it big, you need to work on your business, not in the business. One thing that is absolutely crucial: the design has to invoke an emotion from the target audience. Don’t go for mediocre design concepts, instead, make sure you understand what makes your audience tick, do your homework (e.g. research what sells on other platforms, Amazon, eBay, etsy, Wanelo, Pinterest, etc…), find suitable targeting options on Facebook (use Facebook Audience Insights, there are some good videos on YouTube about it), and then come up with a design concept of which people think: “This is made for me, I NEED to have it right away!”. You don’t need to reinvent the wheel, quite the opposite: research what already works and adapt it (but don’t just copy it!). There is so much potential out there! All you need is a good idea, dedication and perseverance. You will face challenges and obstacles, but each obstacle is an opportunity for growth, just keep going.

Which resources would you recommend to learn more about building a t-shirt business?

You can do it alone, but it is much easier if you have like-minded people around you. Make sure to have access to a community of other t-shirt sellers. The Teezily Facebook group or the TASSkickers group by fellow Ziler Yousef Khalidi are great places to start out. Don’t be shy to ask for help, and always test what works and what doesn’t. I have also created a course for the German market, called tshirtformel.com, where I am teaching how we have built our business. Our active community is over 600 t-shirt sellers strong, and we keep sharing what works and what doesn’t. There is one trap to be aware of: don’t get paralyzed by thinking that you need to “learn more” / instead, you need to start putting campaigns out there and getting your feet wet, this is the best way to learn fast. Take a look what other successful sellers are doing and learn by imitation. My buddy Daniel Gaiswinkler, a successful German seller who has also created an online course, always says: “Don’t be lazy, launch like crazy!” e One last question: why did it tak ally almost two years until you fin WHAT met your business partner, and t? DOES Teezily HAVE to do with tha

Seb and I were talking on the phone every week but were never met in person because we live on different continents. This spring we participated in the Teezily sales contest and managed to be among the top sellers, who were invited to a week of #Worknfun (search the hashtag on Facebook :-) ) on the beautiful island of Malta. Even though it was called “Work and Fun”, it felt like a fun vacation with folks you would love to hang out with. Sharing knowledge and learning from each other is key, and we enjoyed meeting all the other sellers in person. Nobody wanted to leave, the Teezily team did such a fabulous job organizing this. Charles, Stephen, Stéphane and everybody else who made it possible – you guys rock!

OCTOBER / NOVEMBER - TEEZILY POST

Work and fun, Malta edition Meeting some of the best European Zilers… done! During the first week of September, the first #TZworkandfun adventure brought us to the Maltese Island. We had the chance to spend a week with a little group of international sellers. What did we do? We worked and had fun together, exploring, discovering and learning a lot about this magnificent place, as it was our first time visiting this country.

We did a lot of sightseeing with our maltese guide, starting with the «Game of Throne» type of city Mdina (some scenes of the famous TV series were actually shot there), where the location was astonishing, and the whole evening, charming. The next day, we had the chance to discover the city of Valetta in a «Tv show turned activity» game, where we had to accomplish a list of tasks, which took us to the must-see places in a fun way.

At some point, we had to be efficient on the «working» side of the contest, so we spent one morning networking about Teezily, the new features, market and last but not least, our sellers’ feedback. Thanks to the exchange and this time, we were able to come back to our hometown Paris with a lot of ideas (ideas of products or different features) about things we could improve and add to our teezily roadmap.

The second part of the week brought us away from the city. Indeed, our «Malta express» took us to the other side of the island, where we discovered old ruins, which showed us how rich and old the maltese culture is. We had the opportunity to do a lot with our group, like leaving the city and the island to join Blue Lagoon on an “extreme” speed boat, where you could choose between several activities.. What a journey it was!

TEEZILY POST - OCTOBER / NOVEMBER

All this planning and things we had to do left us with a big appetite. Luckily, we spent a lot of time in different restaurants and places, where we were able to discover Maltese culinary meat and fish specialities. I have to admit, as a lot of different cultures passed through the little island of Malta, you are able to find a lot of food diversity. European, south European and even asian food... we tasted it all!

Finally, we spent a lot of time doing sports, some went to the gym and some went swimming but what we all did together was obviously drinking. In my opinion, these moments when we exchanged a lot about the online t-shirt business, when beer wasn’t far from us it was golden. Indeed, it was really easy for us to gather information and feedback because everybody was interested in exchanging ideas about this subject.

The last night we had the chance to party at a club on the 22nd floor of a tower. Everybody seemed to be really impressed by the location, including us. We had a lot of fun.

We are happy that our sellers came back home with great memories about this trip: «The trip to Malta was really cool and interesting. Teezily did everything to make this week unforgettable and the organisation of Stéphane and Stephen during the week was topnotch. I have really profited from it by exchanging with others power sellers» «The Malta trip with the Teezily-Team was, in my opinion, successful. The best part for me was having the chance to meet all the great people there. We spent a week with the best team, great food, and diverse activities with a lot of experience exchange.» It was really hard to leave this group of people. We had the feeling that this time in Malta created a bound between all the power sellers of Teezily. So let’s see who will be part of the next Teezily contest and trip. We hope we will be able to meet and spend some quality time with all of you!So see you very soon on the next adventure!

OCTOBER / NOVEMBER - TEEZILY POST

Work and fun, Kuala Lumpur edition During the first week of September, the first #TZWorkandFun trips ever were organized with great success. We had the honor to welcome Zilers and their partners from Asia to the beautiful capital of Malaysia. As a group of twenty five with no experience in this country, we were very eager to explore its vibrant urban life, charming natural sights and rich culture.

Starting with the essential Kuala Lumpur, we were guided to the most well-known places in the city. Having different ethnic groups such as Muslim, Chinese and Indian, Malaysia is an ethnically harmonised and peaceful countries. The capital is a testament to this, with its classical and modern architecture of different buildings such as The National Mosque, the Royal Palace, Merdeka Independence Square, and Chinatown.

The most iconic landmark of Kuala Lumpur, is of course the Petronas Twin Towers – the highest twin towers in the world. With the good location of our hotel, we could see it from our rooms. Just as it was really exciting to see the building from the ground. Moreover, we had the chance to go up to the bridge that connects the two towers, and even higher, we went up to the top floor. It was breathtaking to have the bird’s-eye view of this dynamic city with all of its buzzing atmosphere.

Away from city life for one day, we went trekking on the outskirts of the capital. In that crystal rocky mountain range surrounded by tropical forest, we had the peak of Bukit Tabur to conquer. Needless to say, this hiking was no joke, especially for us who work mainly on computers all day. But when physical strength was required, our Super Zilers were ready. The spectacular view of Kuala Lumpur on one side and the Klang Gates dam on the other was our reward after 3 hours of hiking.

TEEZILY POST - OCTOBER / NOVEMBER

11

We stayed in the nearby area in the afternoon and had another activity that was no less exciting: ATV riding. It was a selfdrive excursion on the trails of the Kemensah tropical forest. Another new experience with Malaysian nature for our urban participants, and it was also a game of speed.

The fun didn’t stop there. The next day we went to Sunway Lagoon Park. Extending over several hectares, Sunway Lagoon offers many attractions such as the water park, adventure park, a zoo and many shows. Having spent the whole day there, we still wish we could have spent more time there. Back at the hotel in the evening, we could not stay calm and so went back to the Petronas Twin Towers for the water fountain show. It was a spectacular combination of music, light and water dance which helped us relax after a day full of activities.

Let’s not forget to mention all the incredible food that we had here, ranging from Malaysian, Indonesian, Chinese and Western cuisine. The most remarkable dinner has to be the buffet we had at Saloma Bistro. They had a traditional dance show which we had the pleasure to join in and dance on the stage. Overall, we had a really good impression about tourism in the country.

To add a final touch to the rich experience we had, one of the last nights was for clubbing in Trek – the new entertainment center of Kuala Lumpur. “Cheers! Santé! Saluté! Hai ba zo!”, “To Teezily!” Everyone was up to celebrate the unforgettable moments that we had had together.

It was unbelievable that one week in Kuala Lumpur went that fast. But it was time to get back to work. Our Super Zilers had time to recharge their batteries and be open to a new atmosphere in which to continue their business. We said goodbye but we will always remember all the memories that we had together in this beautiful country. See you again very soon!

Similarly, we are aware that ensuring excellent customer service is vital to help you grow in the business and build your brand.
