Leí en algún lugar “tener dificultad para estacionar, quiere decir que tienes un vehículo.”

No es diferente a repensar en lo que nos brinda esta vida “virtual”: quiere decir que tenemos una computadora, o un celular, un perro para mostrar, y por sobre todas las cosas esperanza, ganas y pasión, para seguir adelante.

Así nos comparte Patricia Nemirovsky de Alsina en su odisea por los países bálticos, la trayectoria de Serafino Bueti aprendiendo en cada etapa, la readaptación a la vida virtual del ACCC, el llamado a participar activamente de los clubes para mantener la unión de los criadores y amantes de las razas, y trabajar para mejorar en conjunto; todos enfocados en un objetivo: la pasión por la cinofilia!

Keep your spirits high, the flame burning, with optimism, regardless of the circumstances. I read somewhere “having difficulty parking, means you have a vehicle.” It is not different from rethinking what this “virtual” life offers us: it means that we have a computer, or a cell phone, a dog to show, and above all things hope, desire and passion, to move forward.

This is how Patricia Nemirovsky de Alsina shares with us in her odyssey through the Baltic countries, the trajectory of Serafino Bueti learning at each stage, the readjustment to the virtual life of the ACCC, the call to actively participate by the clubs to maintain the union of breeders and breed lovers, and work to improve together; all focused on one goal: the passion for dog fancy!

DEL RIO MANSO - SIBERIAN HUSKY Soy Mario Francini y desde el año 1987 tengo Siberian Huskies. Descubrí esta hermosa raza un día de enero de 1981, cuando vi venir dos hermosos ejemplares por las arenas de nuestra costa Atlántica y mientras más se acercaban más bellos eran, su pelaje, su paso firme y alegre…

Imposible no mirarlos, fue amor a primera vista.

Comencé a averiguar sobre la raza, simplemente hermosos por donde se los observe, con características sorprendentes, realmente una raza especial. Como mencioné anteriormente, mi primer ejemplar lo tuve en el año 1987, Kathleen, una hembra increible, gris celeste.

Profundicé sobre la raza, a estudiar y comprender más sobre ellos.

Con el tiempo adquirí mi primer perro importado en el año 1992: un ejemplar de Estados Unidos del criadero Indigo’s propiedad de David y Sheila Qualls, que se llamaba Isósceles, un ejemplar con un movimiento soñado, algo que se caracteriza en la raza (y que nunca se debe negociar). Después tuve más ejemplares del mismo criadero: Breeze, Della, Ivanna y con el tiempo tuve la suerte de criar un ejemplar Maverick del Rio Manso, un hermoso perro propiedad de la Sra. Nora Altarmirano, que se acercaba casi a la perfección que uno busca y que fue ganador de muchos BIS. Entre mediados de los años ochenta y los noventa tuve la suerte de ver los mejores ejemplares traídos a nuestro país donde había exposiciones con más de 40 siberian husky en pista y no siempre los ganadores eran los mismos. Lamentablemente, por esas cuestiones de la vida, la raza hizo un impasse, y con el correr de los años no mantuvo la misma calidad de aquellos tiempos.

I am Mario Francini and since 1987 I have had Siberian Huskies. I discovered this beautiful breed one day in January 1981, when I saw two marvelous specimens coming through the sandbanks of our Atlantic coast and the closer they got the more stunning they were, their fur, their firm walk and cheerful gait ... Impossible not to look at them, it was love at first sight.

I began to find out about the breed, I’ve been amazed by it, with surprising characteristics, really a special breed.

As I mentioned before, I had my first specimen in 1987, Kathleen, an incredible female, light blue color.

I delved into the breed, to study and understand more about it. In 1992 I acquired my first imported dog from the United States from Indigo’s kennel owned by David and Sheila Qualls, which was called Isosceles, a specimen with a dreamed movement, something that is distinguished in the breed (and that should be never negotiated).

Later, I had more specimens from the same kennel: Breeze, Della, Ivanna and over time I was lucky enough to breed Maverick del Rio Manso specimen, a stunning dog owned by Mrs. Nora Altarmirano, which came close to almost the perfection one seeks and he was the winner of many BIS. Between the mid-eighties and the nineties I was fortunate to see the best specimens brought to our country where there were exhibitions with more than 40 Siberian huskies in the ring and the winners were not always the same. Unfortunately, the breed made an impasse, and over the years it did not maintain the same quality of those times.

Starting a few years ago, specimens of a very good quality are back and it seems that the breed is growing again, with new breeders participating and also many from

Hace unos años comenzamos a ver ejemplares de una muy buena calidad y se ve que la raza está en crecimiento nuevamente, con criadores nuevos participando y también muchos de antaño, que se preocupan por hacer las cosas en forma correcta, buscando mejorar la misma.

El siberian husky tiene una energía y una alegría que se disfruta, aunque a veces también, se sufre.

Es importante tener en cuenta cuando tomemos la decisión de criar y queramos hacer nuestra propia línea, realizarlo paso a paso y cuidando muy bien el cruzamiento; muchas veces, por el apuro, perdemos muchas cosas en ese

camino, pero ejecutando el plan de cría cuidadosamente, cuando uno llega a ver el resultado de ese trabajo, nadie va a poder sacar esa alegría y la satisfacción de haber podido lograrlo.

Cada criador hace su trabajo, a algunos les puede gustar, a otros no. Lo importante es saber respetarlo, porque el sacrificio realizado es muy grande.

Para mí esto es un hobby y trato de hacerlo de la mejor manera, siempre con mucha humildad y si alguno se acerca, trato de ayudar y guiarlo hasta donde puedo.

Es muy importante saber elegir un perro para criar. En mi caso, lo primero que observo es tener en él calidad, tanto

fenotípica como genéticamente.También es importante que en su pedigrí tenga parte de la historia de la raza. Es de suma relevancia tener con quien hablar para compartir experiencias, ideas de crianza, pues siempre se aprende y para esto estamos y así nos enriquecernos como criadores.

Puedo nombrar a muchos con los que he compartido ideas y experiencias muy lindas sobre la raza, largas conversaciones, pero me voy a detener en uno con el que tuve la suerte de, además de hablar de perros y aprender, desarrollar una amistad, y quien hoy lamentablemente no se encuentra entre nosotros, Miguel Cobas.

The Siberian husky has a lot of energy and a joy that is captivating, although, very demanding. It is important to take into account when one makes the decision to breed and want to make one’s own line, do it step by step and taking good care of the crossing; many times, due to our haste, we lose many things on that road, but executing the breeding plan carefully, when one gets to see the result of that work, it is joy and satisfaction of having been able to achieve it.

Each breeder does his job, some may like it, others may not, but it is important to respect it, because there is a big amount of work and sacrifice involved.

For me this is a hobby and I try to do it in the best way, always with great humility and if someone approaches, I try to help and guide them as much as I can.

It is very important to know how to choose a dog to breed wisely. In my case, the first thing I observe is to have quality in it, both phenotypically and genetically. It is also important that in its pedigree it has part of the history of the breed. Ideally, have someone to talk to to share experiences, breeding ideas, because one always learns and thus enrich ourselves as breeders. I can name many reputable breeders and siberian husky lovers with whom I have shared very nice ideas and experiences about the breed, long conversations, but I am going to stop at one with whom I was lucky enough to, in addition to discussing about dogs and learning, developed a friendship, and who unfortunately is not longer with us today, Mr. Miguel Cobas.

JUZGANDO DURANTE COVID-19 El nuevo e infame Coronavirus parece haber llegado para perturbar las vidas de todos nosotros, simples mortales que sólo queríamos continuar con nuestras rutinas.

El año 2020 lucía muy promisorio para mí. Tenía por delante una serie de cuatro meses de juzgamientos y destinos “cinófilos” (canófilos), comenzando con cuatros fines de semana en EEUU, dos en Nueva Zelanda, dos en Hungría, luego Londres, la Mundial en Madrid, Barcelona, de regreso a EEUU para un fin de semana en Nueva York, para terminar en Junio con dos fines de semana en Australia.

Desde ahí hubiera regresado a casa...

Bueno, como ya todos ustedes imaginarán, esto no sucedió.

Por fortuna sí pude juzgar los cuatro fines de semana en EEUU pero, mientras me preparaba para volar el miércoles 18 de Marzo a Auckland, ese país cerró sus fronteras el lunes previo.

Y Argentina hizo lo propio: los últimos vuelos comerciales hacia Argentina despegaron el domingo. Me quedé “varada” en los Estados Unidos, por suerte en la casa de mi gran amigo Matt DeJulio, mi hermano del alma. “Cuando la Vida te dé limones, haz limonada.”

Con este lema en la cabeza, aproveché la oportunidad para asistir a todo seminario online disponible (American Kennel Club, Federación Cinológica Rusa, Venezuela, Croacia, Inglaterra...) Y también decidí hacer esas cosas para las que nunca tenemos tiempo: me uní a dos talleres de escritura, uno en Inglés y otro en Español, y a una Sociedad Cultural con base en Filadelfia.

De todos esos juzgamientos, hubo UNO que no se canceló: Tallinn International Show, 15 y 16 de Agosto. Estonia tuvo, y aún tiene, la estadística más baja de

afectados y muertos por COVID. Yo estaba decidida a viajar, pero... (¿Por qué siempre hay un “pero” que interrumpe nuestros planes?), pero los pasajeros viajando desde EEUU, que no lograba controlar el virus, ¡no podían aterrizar en países de la Unión Europea!

—Oh, un minuto... El Reino Unido acaba de dejar la Unión Europea. ¡Podía volar a Londres!

Y hacia allí volé. Más fácil de decir que de hacer durante una pandemia. Estaba aterrorizada ante la idea de estar rodeada por mucha gente. Me preparé con dos barbijos y un filtro de papel para café en el medio.

Mis temores fueron infundados porque los aeropuertos y los aviones estaban bastante vacíos. Nunca me sentí incómoda o insegura.

Aterricé en Heathrow sin ningún problema.

Antes había completado un formulario en línea con información para el gobierno británico: dónde había estado los catorce días previos al embarque, dónde iba a pasar los siguientes catorce días de confinamiento, con quién iba a quedarme, si tenía algún síntoma o si

sospechaba haber estado en contacto con alguna persona infectada.

Al llegar, la oficial de inmigraciones me retuvo un poco más que lo usual. Repitió las mismas preguntas varias veces: en tres oportunidades tuve que contestar que mi amiga Lorna es viuda y vive sola.

Al final, la mujer quedó satisfecha y pude ingresar a Gran Bretaña. Como estaba planeado, pasé la cuarentena en la casa de mi amiga y sólo salí después de catorce días.

El jueves 13 de Agosto, dieciocho días después de mi llegada a Londres, volé a Tallinn, con conexión en Helsinki. Una vez más preparé mi barbijo “reforzado”, pero en verdad no era necesario. Muy poca gente en aeropuertos y aviones.

De nuevo, largas entrevistas con agentes de inmigración muy corteses, tanto en Finlandia como en Estonia. Es obvio que son muy cuidadosos con la condición de sus países frente al COVID, y examinan a

JUDGING IN TIMES OF COVID-19 battle against the virus, were not allowed to land in European Union countries! —Oh, wait a minute! United Kingdom recently dropped OUT of EU... I could fly there!

The infamous new corona virus seems to have shown up to disturb the lives of all of us,simple mortals who just wanted to continue with our routines. Year 2020 was looking very promising to me. I had an exciting four months tour of judging assignments and “doggy” destinations ahead, starting with four weekends in the USA, two in New Zealand, two in Hungary, then London, Madrid for the World Show, Barcelona, back to the States (for a weekend in New York) and two weekends in Melbourne, Australia. From there, already June, I should have flown home... Well, as all of you know, it didn’t happen. Fortunately, I managed to do the four weekends in the States but, as I was getting ready to fly to Auckland on Wednesday March 18th, the country closed its borders on Monday. And Argentina did exactly the same.

I got “stuck” in the States (fortunately at the home of my great friend Matt DeJulio, my soul brother) “When Life gives you lemons, make lemonade!” With this motto in mind, I took this opportunity to join every online seminar available (American Kennel Club, Russian Kynological Federation, Venezuela, Croatia, England) and decided to do some of those things that we never have time to do: i.e. join a writing workshop (two, actually, in Spanish & English), and a cultural society based in Philadelphia.

Of all those judging assignments there was ONE that was not cancelled: Tallinn International Show, August 15th & 16th. Estonia had (still has) one of the lowest numbers of COVID affected/dead people. I was determined to travel there, but... (Why is it that there’s always a “but” interrupting our plans?) but passengers from the States, which had not succeeded in its

And there I flew. Easier to say than to actually do it during a pandemic. I was terrorized with the idea of being closely surrounded by many people. I prepared my best mask by using two regular ones and a paper coffee filter in between. I must say that I shouldn’t have been afraid because airports and flights were quite empty and I never felt uncomfortable or unsafe.

I landed in Heathrow with absolutely no problem. I had previously filled an online form giving some information requested by the government: where I had been during the previous 14 days, where I was planning to spend the following 14 days of self-isolation, who I was going to stay with, did I have any symptoms or suspected to have been around infected people?

Upon my arrival, the immigration officer held me a bit more time than usual. She repeated the same questions several times: three times I had to answer that my friend was a widow and she lives on her own. Eventually she was satisfied, and I could enter UK. As planned, I spent quarantine at my friend Lorna’s home and only left the house after those first 14 days.

On Thursday August 13th, 18 days after landing in London, I flew to Tallinn with connection in Helsinki. One more time, I prepared my “special”, reinforced mask but it was not really necessary.

Mientras muchos países no logran controlar el virus, los tres países Bálticos y Finlandia han podido mantener sus números bastante bajos. Ellos organizan exposiciones caninas al aire libre donde uno tiende a olvidarse que hay una pandemia asolando al planeta.

Como mencioné, llegué a Tallinn un jueves y me preguntaron si podría juzgar una especializada de Basenjis al día siguiente.

El juez original era de Francia y no pudo viajar debido a que su país acababa de ser incluido en la lista “roja” del gobierno de Estonia.

Esta época es muy complicada para todos nosotros, relacionados con la actividad: organizadores, jueces, expositores.

Los países cambian su “color” (su condición frente al virus) de un momento a otro y uno no puede viajar. Más aún: un país puede ser “verde” todo el tiempo y de repente, por una escalada del virus, volverse “rojo”, ¡lo que impide a sus habitantes visitar otro país! He aquí otro ejemplo de lo que sucede: Finlandia sigue “verde”.

Sin embargo cancelaron su exposición internacional de Diciembre. ¿Por qué?

No porque el país tenga problemas, sino porque los expositores rusos no podrán ingresar a Finlandia (Rusia es “MUY ROJA”), lo que significaría la pérdida de miles de inscripciones (sin exageración.)

En fin... Juzgué la especializada de Basenjis y mi compromiso inicial, la Exposición Internacional de Tallinn, con clasificación para Crufts, incluido el Mejor de Exposición el domingo. Fue una gran emoción poder darle el máximo lauro, por primera vez en mi vida, a un Airedale Terrier. Junto con mi difunto esposo Roberto Alsina, los criamos durante más de treinta años bajo el sufijo NAGUAL. Este perro es un SAREDON de cinco años, criado en Inglaterra, quien fue el número uno de todas las razas en Estonia 2019, pre-pandemia, y mantiene esta posición en lo que va del año. Quiero mencionar que mi excelente amiga Gloria Kerr, de Arizona, EEUU, iba a compartir

este viaje y juzgar conmigo, pero no pudo hacerlo por el virus.

Tuve libre el siguiente fin de semana, y decidí asistir a una especializada de Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, siempre al aire libre (las exposiciones en lugares cerrados no están autorizadas) No llovió... ¡Diluvió! Los expositores mostraron sus perros como si fuera un espléndido día soleado. Esto siempre me impacta, creo que no me bajaría de la cama con ese clima.

La semana siguiente tomé un ómnibus a Haapsalu, una ciudad pintoresca al lado del mar, en la costa oeste de Estonia.

Una vez más, aquí era fácil olvidarse de la pandemia y todos disfrutaron mucho el evento. El viernes tuve la oportunidad de visitar su Ciudad Vieja, con algunos edificios de principios del siglo XIII. Me encantó ver muchos perros que sin dudas competirían durante el fin de semana, mientras paseaban y recorrían la ciudad con sus propietarios. Habían viajado desde Finlandia, Latvia (Letonia) y Lituania.

De hecho, muchos ganadores de raza no se quedaron a competir en los grupos el domingo porque tenían que llegar a tiempo para abordar el ferry a Helsinki.

A último momento, fui invitada a juzgar el siguiente fin de semana en Ventspils, Latvia, porque, como mencioné, algunos jueces confirmados no podrían viajar por la pandemia. Era mi primera vez en ese hermoso país y lo disfruté muchísimo. Los expositores eran amables, el clima perfecto y el lugar del evento muy adecuado.

Aquí pude probar el famoso Bálsamo Negro de Latvia (Letonia) Los nativos están convencidos de sus propiedades curativas.

Por mi parte, sólo puedo decir que me resultó delicioso. Éste había sido mi último juzgamiento confirmado, así que me dispuse a visitar a mi buena amiga Minna, en Finlandia.

Sin embargo, me quedé en Riga hasta la apertura de la temporada de ópera del Teatro Nacional de Ópera y Ballet de Latvia. El miércoles a la noche vestí mi mejor atuendo y con mi amiga Oksana compartimos una linda cena y... LA TRAVIATA (los que me conocen saben cuánto lo disfruté. ¡Excelentes cantantes nativos!)

El jueves 10 de setiembre tomé un ómnibus a Tallinn, y de ahí el ferry a Helsinki. ¡Muy divertido!

Hay unas doce frecuencias diarias desde Tallinn a Helsinki, y otras tantas de regreso.

Los dos países están bien interconectados.

While many countries don’t seem to be able to control the virus, the three Baltics and Finland have managed to keep their numbers quite low. Therefore they’re holding outdoor dog-shows where one tends to forget that there’s a pandemic ravaging the world.

As I said, I arrived Tallinn on a Thursday and was especially asked to judge a Basenji specialty very next day because the original judge was coming from France but he couldn’t fly due to the fact that his country had just been included in the “red” list for Estonian government.

These times prove to be quite complicated for all of us, dog people: organizers, judges, exhibitors. Countries suddenly change “color condition” and one cannot travel.

More than that: a country could be green all the time and then, due to an escalation of the virus, get red overnight, which means its citizens cannot enter another country!

Let’s take another example of what is happening: Finland keeps being “green”.

However they cancelled their December Helsinki Winner show.

Why? Not because the country may have problems, but because Russian exhibitors cannot enter Finland (Russia is definitely RED), which therefore faces the loss of literally thousands of Russian exhibits!

Anyway... I judged the Basenji Specialty and the original assignment that I had, the Tallinn International Show (Crufts qualifier), and did Best in Show on Sunday. What a huge thrill when I was able, for the first time in my life, to award the maximum honor to an Airedale Terrier! (together with my late husband, Roberto Alsina, I bred them for over 30 years under NAGUAL kennel name) It’s a SAREDON five years old male, bred in England, who was #1 All Breeds in Estonia during 2019, and so far keeps this

position during the current year.

BTW: my excellent friend Gloria Kerr, from Arizona, USA, was supposed to share this trip and judge with me, but she could not travel because of COVID. Following weekend I was free, so I decided to attend a Cavalier King Charles Specialty, outdoors as usual (indoors shows are not allowed.) It didn’t rain, IT POURED! Exhibitors handled their dogs like if it was the sunniest day. This always amazes me! (I think I would not leave my bed with that kind of weather) Following weekend I took a bus to Haapsalu, a lovely picturesque seaside resort town located in the west coast of Estonia.

Again, pandemic was easy to forget and everyone had a great time. I had the chance to visit its Old Town, with some buildings from early XIII century. I loved seeing lots of obviously “show” dogs and their owners also sightseeing on Friday.

They had come from Finland, Latvia and Lithuania. Actually, very many breed winners did not remain for the groups on Sunday because they had to catch the ferry to Helsinki.

I ended up judging following weekend too, because, as previously mentioned, confirmed judges all of a sudden cannot travel due to pandemic conditions. So I was asked very last minute to officiate in Ventspils, Latvia. My first time in this wonderful country, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Exhibitors were quite relaxed, weather was perfect, and venue absolutely adequate.

There I got to try Latvian famous Black Balsam (Blackcurrant) Locals are convinced about its healing properties. All I can say is that it is delicious.

Well... Latvia was my last scheduled judging assignment, so I prepared to visit my good friend Minna in Finland. However, I remained in Riga to attend the opening of the opera season at the National Opera & Ballet Theater. On Wednesday evening I wore my best outfit and with my local friend Oksana, we shared a lovely dinner and La Traviata (My friends know how much I enjoyed it!

Excellent local singers, by the way) On Thursday September 10th, I took a bus to Tallinn and from there the ferry to Helsinki. What fun! There are about

Tras un viaje de dos horas y quince minutos, atracamos en el puerto de ferries de Helsinki. Caminé unos cincuenta metros hasta el tranvía que me llevó, por €2.80, hasta la entrada principal de la Estación Central de Trenes de Helsinki. Y cuatro horas más tarde estaba en Ylivieska, donde Minna y su esposo Panu me esperaban.

En el tren, conectada con wifi, recibí un mensaje de Minna: ¡había una cancelación de último momento y necesitaban un juez para el domingo! Así fue como, después de un viernes relajado, subí a otro tren el sábado temprano, esta vez hacia Jyväskylä, en el oeste de la zona de los lagos finlandeses, unos 270 km al norte de Helsinki. Y aquí estoy, en un frío y ventoso domingo de verano finlandés (¡si esto es el verano no quiero saber lo que es el invierno!) Juzgué 98 perros, con súmulas, en cinco horas: 27 Irish Wolfhounds, 25 Salukis and 46 Whippets (sin cachorros).

Era una Exposición de Grupos, limitada a los grupos 1, 2, 9 y 10, con una inscripción total de 1200 ejemplares.

También juzgué la final combinada de los grupos 9 y 10. La ganadora fue una espléndida y atractiva Poodle Miniatura negra criada en China (que más tarde fue Mejor de Exposición); segundo fue un maravilloso Havanese de 10 años; tercera fue la veterana Saluki de nueve años que

antes había ganado la raza conmigo; y cuarto fue un Pug con una cabeza y expresión sobresalientes y gran calidad.

Estoy recostada en mi cuarto de hotel mientras termino este artículo, y no puedo evitar reflexionar sobre mi vida durante estos últimos siete meses.

Salí de Argentina el 13 de febrero. Parece que mi país reabrirá sus fronteras en octubre. Si esto sucede, supongo que se reanudarán los vuelos comerciales y con ellos la conexión de Buenos Aires con el mundo.

Entonces, por fin, será mi oportunidad de volver a casa. Entonces, por fin, se terminará mi aventura en tiempos de COVID-19. Mi familia, mis amigos, todos mis conocidos en mi ciudad natal pasaron estos meses encerrados en sus casas, sin poder salir. Mientras tanto me convertí en una “vagabunda” viajera por el mundo, siempre buscando el lado positivo de cada situación. Estoy por siempre agradecida a mis leales y amados amigos que me recibieron en sus casas como si fuéramos familia (sin dudas lo somos... ¡familia elegida!), a los Kennel Clubes que se preocuparon por mí, y a Dios, quien siempre me vigila y me cuida (o, al menos, así lo siento).

Junto con su esposo Roberto Alsina, ya fallecido, criaron: American Cocker Sp, Malteses, Lakeland T., Bichon Frise, Yorkshire T., Airedale T., Wire Fox T., Dachshund Mini P/Duro, Crestados Chinos. En la actualidad, cría Schnauzers Mini y Welsh Terriers. Su crianza, en las razas mencionadas, ha conseguido numerosos campeonatos y ganadores de Mejores de Exposición, habiendo exportado a EEUU, Canada, Reino Unido, Colombia, Perú, España, Italia, Chile, Brasil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Ecuador y Bolivia. Patricia ha logrado conciliar sus numerosas actividades cinófilas y profesionales: es una cantante profesional que estudió ópera y canto lírico en el Instituto Superior de Arte del Teatro Colón de Buenos Aires. Actualmente integra “En Camino”, un dúo que aborda música folklórica Argentina.

12 ferries DAILY from Tallinn to Helsinki (and 12 back) The two countries are so interconnected!

After 2 hours 15’, I arrived to Helsinki ferry port. I walked 50 meters to the tram that left me right in front of the Central Train Station (cost: €2.80) and four hours later I was in Ylivieska, where Minna and her husband Panu were waiting for me.

While on the train, connected to the free wifi, I got a message from Minna: there had been a last minute cancellation and they needed a sighthound judge for Sunday! So, after a relaxed Friday, I packed again and boarded another train on Saturday, this time heading to Jyväskylä, located in the western part of the Finnish Lakeland, about 270 km north from Helsinki.

And here I am, on a cold and extremely windy Finnish summer Sunday (if this is a Summer day, I don’t want to experience winter!) I judged 98 dogs, with critiques, in five hours: 27 Irish Wolfhounds, 25 Salukis and 46 Whippets, no puppies. This was a “groups show”, limited to FCI groups #1, 2, 9 & 10, with a total entry of around 1200 exhibits. I also did the final of groups 9 & 10 combined: Best was a gorgeous, extremely showy black Miniature Poodle female, bred in China (she later won Best in Show); Second to an absolutely amazing 10 years old veteran Havanese; Third to the 9 years old veteran Saluki bitch; Fourth to a quality Pug with a head and expression to die for. I’m lying on the bed in my room while I finish this article, and I cannot help but reflect on my life during the last seven months. I left Argentina on February 13th. It seems that my home country will reopen its borders in October. If that actually happens, I guess that commercial flights will start to connect Buenos Aires again with the world.

Then it will be my time to go back home. My pandemic adventure will have come to an end. My family, my friends, my

acquaintances spent all these months in lock-down, locked in their houses.

In the meanwhile, I turned into kind of a World Traveler Hobo, always looking for the silver lining of every situation. I’m extremely grateful to my beloved loyal friends that welcomed me in their homes like if I was family (we ARE family... the family members that one chooses), to the Kennel Clubs that cared and worried for me, and to God for always keeping an eye on me (or, at least, this is the way I feel)

El Golden Retriever Club Argentino fue creado con el objetivo de fomentar y promover la crianza y tenencia responsable de la raza Golden Retriever.

El Golden Retriever Club Argentino se rige por el reglamento de Clubes de la Federación Cinológica Argentina y el estándar de la raza reconocido por la Federación Cinológica Internacional. El club tiene como objetivo principal acompañar a criadores y dueños de ejemplares de la raza, a mejorar y estimular la cría mediante distintos tipos de actividades, ya sean de índole recreativa, de competición y sobretodo de capacitación.

Creemos que hay mucho por hacer desde el área educativa, dado que hay muchos aspectos de la raza que se transmiten de boca a boca y, en ocasiones, eso lleva a la pérdida de objetividad. Desde el club proponemos unirnos como criadores/dueños a distintos especialistas que nos acompañan para para fomentar la mejora y expansión de la raza mediante dos pilares fundamentales: Salud y Conocimiento.

Al hacerse socio acceden a actividades de campo, exposiciones, charlas, seminarios y descuentos con distintos profesionales, comercios y marcas adheridas.

¿Por qué asociarse?

Porque es importante para un criador de Golden estar registrado en el club (ser socio del club). Creemos que es importante que los criadores se acerquen al club y se asocien, la cuota social es un pequeño granito de arena que le dará la posibilidad al Club de poder planificar más eventos y más propuestas, que nos permitan aprender.

Pero no menos importante es que los socios participen activamente de todas nuestras propuestas, este año atípico e inesperado nos hizo replantear y adaptar todas las actividades vivenciales que teníamos planificadas en nuestro calendario 2020 y dar un giro total a las mismas, con una Comisión Directiva con muchas ganas de “hacer” totalmente proactivo y un gran grupo de socios que nos estimularon para no quedarnos quietos.

Desde el Club nacieron muchas propuestas e ideas y los socios acompañaron. El crecimiento de una raza está en manos de los criadores, el Club solo es un medio, una herramienta para ser utilizada en beneficio de nuestra raza, con aciertos y errores pero siempre buscando entre todos un objetivo en común, el bienestar y crecimiento de nuestra raza.

UN ARTISTA DEL MOVIMIENTO: EL ITALIAN GREYHOUND Fue en marzo de 1972 cuando mi padre a través de Don Virgilio Patalano (ya que trabajaba con él) llega a mi casa con un bolso, lo pone en el piso del living y al abrirlo salió lo más asombroso que habíamos visto como perro. Tenía apenas 4 meses. Nuestro querido “Blue”, JG WIPO CAROLINO. Blue era criado por Don Jorge Goldberg, hijo de un macho traído de Austria, Winnetov Springinsfeld y JG WIllys Pierrete, la cual era hija de Stella del Chubut, propiedad de Don Antonio Nores Martinez.

Con el transcurso del tiempo “Blue” se transformó en Campeón Internacional de Belleza, Gr. Campeón Argentino, Campeón Sudamericano y Campeón Uruguayo, ganador de innumerables Grupos y colocaciones en el final del Show. Cabe recordar que en esos años el Italian Greyhound competía en el Grupo Toy. En 1977 tenemos nuestra primera lechigada, obteniendo excelentes ejemplares a partir de los cuales fuimos criando hasta que en los noventa incorporamos a “Gr.Ch. Argentina, Ch.Int Ch. Latin. Hergime Eloisa del Rio”, proveniente de España, la cual traía en su pedigree excelentes lineas de sangre europeas.

Nombrar a cada ejemplar y/o títulos, creo que sería muy extenso ya que han pasado 48 años desde ese día en que llegó esta raza a nuestra familia.

Hemos exportado ejemplares a casi toda América Latina y España, y no dudo de considerarnos “pioneros de la raza en la región”y tendría el orgullo de ser uno de los 304 criaderos vigentes más antiguos en el mundo.

En el 2018 fui a buscar a nuestra querida “Ljli” Arg. Jov. Ch. Ljly do Br Reino, del Canil do Br Reino, de mi amigo y copropietario de

Ljly, Elías P. Duarte. Una gran incorporación.

Ljly fue presentada en un solo show en Noviembre de 2019, logrando su Joven Campeonato Argentino y tres #5 Mejor Joven de Exposición. Creo que hará una excelente performance en sus próximas presentaciones, cuando el paso de la Pandemia lo permita.

No imagino mi vida sin la compañía de un Italian, herencia de mis padres, y la raza que me permitió ingresar en el mundo cinófilo. Dicho esto agrego que “la pasión sigue intacta”!!!!

Como dije más arriba, son 48 años en la raza y podría seguir hablando más de la trayectoria del criadero, pero prefiero pasar a contar algo de la Historia de esta bellísima raza y algunas de sus características principales.

Reseña Histórica Creo que existen pocas razas caninas que hayan tenido tantas representaciones en el arte (Giotto, Paolo Ucello, Giovanni Tiepolo, entre otros). Fue cantado por el famoso poeta francés Alphonse de Lamartine y descrito en “Madame Bovary” de Flaubert.

A lo largo de los siglos fue amado por

numerosos grandes de la historia como: Federico II de Suabia, los Visconti, la familia Este y los Medici, Luis XI°, Carlos VIII y Carlos IX, Luis XIII y el Resoluto hasta Federico el Grande de Prusia.

Establecer una fecha del origen del Italian Greyhound o Piccolo Levrieri Italiani, tal es su nombre en su país de origen, sería remontarnos a épocas de la Edad de Bronce, de Egipto (3000 a.C.) donde aparecen esqueletos de un pequeño galgo, cuya forma de los huesos de ese esqueleto y sus medidas demuestran ya en el 3000 a.C. había pequeños veltri. Desde Egipto pasó a Grecia (perros de Laconia, eran verdaderos pequeños galgos) y de allí a Roma. Para no hacer tan extensa la historia, abreviaré diciendo que después de la

We have exported specimens to almost all of Latin America and Spain, and I do not hesitate to consider ourselves “pioneers of the breed in the region” and would have the pride of being one of the 304 oldest existing breeders in the world.

In 2018 I brought our dear “Ljli” Arg.J.Ch. Ljly do Br Reino, of the Canil do Br Reino, of my friend and co-owner of Ljly, Elías P. Duarte. A great addition!

Ljly was presented in a single show in November 2019, achieving her Junior Argentine Championship and three # 5 Best Junior in Show. I think it will do an excellent performance in its next presentations, when time allows it.

I can’t imagine my life without the company of an Italian Greyhound, inheritance from my parents, and the breed that has allowed me to enter the dog fancy world. That said, I must add, that the “passion is still intact”!!!

It was in March 1972 when my father, through Don Virgilio Patalano (since he worked with him), came to my house with a bag, put it on the living room floor, and when he opened it, the most amazing thing we had seen as a dog came out. He was barely 4 months old. Our dear “Blue”, JG WIPO CAROLINO. Blue was bred by Don Jorge Goldberg, son of a male brought from Austria, Winnetov Springinsfeld and JG WIllys Pierrete, who was the daughter of Stella del Chubut, owned by Don Antonio Nores Martinez.

Over time “Blue” became International Beauty Champion, Gr. Argentine Champion,

South American Champion and Uruguayan Champion, winner of innumerable Groups and placements at the Dog Show Finals.

It should be reminded that in those years the Italian Greyhound competed in the Toy Group.

In 1977 we had our first litter, obtaining excellent offspring, from which we had been breeding until the nineties, when we incorporated “Gr.Ch. Argentina, Ch.Int Ch.Latin. Hergime Eloisa del Rio”, from Spain, which had excellent European bloodlines in her pedigree.

As I mentioned above, it has been 48 years with the breed and I could continue talking more about the trajectory of the kennel, but I prefer to go on to tell something about the history of this beautiful breed and some of its main characteristics.

Historical review I think that there are few canine breeds that have had so many representations in art (Giotto, Paolo Ucello, Giovanni Tiepolo, among others). aproximadamente 40/42 km por hora en un tamaño máximo de 38 cm y 5 Kg (tal como fija el Standard Oficial de la raza). Con una gran vista pero también olfato, ha cazado durante miles de años.

Su perfil, que a veces recuerda una S, y el particular movimiento alto, lo hacen característico. Debe parecer un galgo pequeño pero nunca debe parecer un Whippet ni por su forma de llevar la cabeza ni por sus proporciones y mucho menos parecer un Pinscher miniatura.

Segunda Guerra Mundial fue una época fatal para la raza (como considero lo fue para otras tantas) y fue en la década de 1950 el renacimiento del Piccolo Levrieri Italiani con la creación en 1956 del Club de la raza y la Condesa Maria Luisa Incontri (Allevamiento Del Calzioni) trabajando conjuntamente con criadores de Austria, Alemania y Francia quienes reanudaron y desarrollaron la misma.

Hasta aquí un breve resumen de la historia en Europa.

Desde ya agradezco el aporte que hicieron tanto en escritos (lo cual yo abrevié) como en fotografías a los propietarios de los Criaderos Do Br. Reino de Brasil y Etrurian Velvet de Italia.

Hablemos de las características de la Raza Cuando alguien me pide que defina a la raza, digo: “es el prototipo de la elegancia, gracia y distinción!!” Su elegancia lo distingue, sus formas, sus líneas aerodinámicas que lo definen para correr. Asombra ver su ligereza y velocidad que alcanza para su tamaño,

Su andar danzante o bailarín, su cabeza siempre en alto le da ese toque tan especial y característico. Como me dijo un gran amigo cinófilo: ¡es un artista del movimiento! Nunca debe confundirse su paso alto, (avance de su tren delantero acompañado con el impulso del tren posterior) con el hackney. Lo aclaro porque es común que se confunda.

Es una raza longeva, en mi caso he tenido hasta de 18 años que ha sido la más longeva en casa, diría que es común ver de 14 años y llevados excelentemente bien.

En cuanto a los cuidados si nos referimos al pelaje, lleva muy poca trabajo pero sí

hay que prestar atención a los dientes que deben ser cepillados preferentemente semanalmente como mínimo y que el veterinario controle anualmente si no es necesaria una limpieza más profunda.

En cuanto al temperamento es reservado por naturaleza con los extraños (como todo galgo) pero profundamente cariñoso con sus dueños.

A pesar de la timidez, en jauría pueden ser agresivos entre ellos existiendo siempre uno dominante. Son juguetones y más de cachorros, aman correr y saltar por lo que hay que prestar atención a los cuidados que esto requiera en las casas donde se incorpore un Italian. Es común verlos saltar sin tomar carrera hasta 1,60/1,70.

En general los lebreles son sensibles en cuanto al trato referente a la educación y adiestramiento, esto no debe hacerse nunca con violencia, ya que luego llevará el doble de trabajo. Son inteligentes y con paciencia y el merecido “premio” se logran excelentes resultados.

Establishing a date of the origin of the Italian Greyhound or Piccolo Levrieri Italiani, such is its name in its country of origin, would be to go back to times of the Bronze Age, of Egypt (3000 BC) where skeletons of a small greyhound appeared, whose shape of the bones of that skeleton and its measurements show as early as 3000 BC there were small veltri. From Egypt it went to Greece (Laconian dogs, they were very little greyhounds) and from there to Rome.

In order not to make the history so extensive, I willabbreviate saying that after the Second World War it was a fatal time for the breed (as I consider it was for many others) and it was in the 1950s the rebirth of the Piccolo Levrieri Italiani with the creation in 1956 of the Breed Club and the Countess Maria Luisa Incontri (Allevamiento Del Calzioni) working together with breeders from Austria, Germany and France who resumed and developed it. So far, a brief summary of the history in Europe.

Let’s talk about the Breed’s characteristics When someone asks me to define the breed, I say: “it is the prototype of elegance, grace and distinction!” Its elegance distinguishes it, its shapes, its aerodynamic lines that define it for running. It is surprising to see its lightness and speed that it reaches for its size, approximately 40/42 km per hour in a maximum size of 38 cm and 5 Kg (as set by the Official Standard of the breed).

With great sight but also smell, it has hunted for thousands of years.

Its profile, sometimes reminiscent of an S,

and the particular high movement make it characteristic.

It should look like a small greyhound but it should never look like a Whippet either from the way it carries its head or from its proportions, much less a Miniature Pinscher.

Its dancing or dancer walk, its head always up high, gives it that special and characteristic touch. As a great dogfancier friend told me: “it is an artist of the movement!”

It is a long-lived breed, in my case I have had up to 18 years old, which has been the longest at home, I would say that it is common to see 14 years old and carried excellently well.

Regarding its care, if we refer to the coat, it takes very little work but you do have to pay attention to the teeth that should be brushed, preferably weekly at least, and that the veterinarian checks annually if a deeper cleaning is necessary.

As for his temperament, it is reserved by nature with strangers (like all greyhounds) but deeply affectionate with its owners.

Despite their shyness, in a pack they can be aggressive with each other, always having a dominant one.

They are playful and more as puppies, they love to run and jump, so you have to pay attention to the care that this requires in the houses where an Italian greyhound is introduced. It is common to see them jump without taking distance up to 1.60 / 1.70 meters.

In general, sighthounds are sensitive when it comes to dealing with education and training, this should never be done with violence, as it will take twice as much work later. They are smart and along with patience and the well-deserved “prize”, excellent results are achieved.

NUNCA DEJES DE APRENDER Desde pequeño he sido un gran amante de todos los animales, especialmente los perros y durante mi juventud pude criar diferentes razas, ampliando mis conocimientos en el campo canino.

Crié Dogo Argentino desde 1985, junto con mi esposa Chiara y creamos el afijo “dei Falchi Bianchi” en 1989.

Hemos contribuido al aumento y desarrollo de esta raza en Italia, dándola a conocer a través de artículos en muchas revistas especializadas. He escrito dos libros y realizado dos videos para una importante revista canina. Pero sobre todo intentando trabajar cualitativamente, de hecho, además de los diversos campeonatos italianos y europeos, hemos obtenido con Ch. Actarus el título de Campeón del Mundo 2002.

Soy miembro del C.I.M. (Club Italiano de Molosser) desde 1992 y he sido nombrado Consejero y Vicepresidente de dos legislaturas. En 2000 ayudé a formar la Sección Dogo Argentino Italia dentro del C.I.M.; fui presidente durante los años 20002003. En este último año fundé el D.A.C.I. (Dogo Argentino Club Italia).

En 2009 me convertí en juez especialista de la raza Dogo Argentino, fue tanta la pasión por juzgar que, además del Dogo, actualmente juzgo muchas otras razas. En resumen, una vida dedicada a los perros es mi gran pasión!!! Volqué esta pasión no solo en la cría, sino en el juzgamiento. Me gusta mucho ir a mostrar y estudiar todas las razas y, en consecuencia, poder dar mi opinión a expositores y criadores.

Después de 25 años de criar el Dogo Argentino sentí que podía poner mi experiencia como criador y luego como juez al alcance de todos los entusiastas y criadores y luego me gusta mucho el

mundo de las exposiciones.

En los años noventa tuve el placer de tener en mi casa al Dr. Víctor Valiño, Dr. Fernando Moreno y el Prof. Ermanno Maniero Trovati.

De ellos pude aprender mucho, tanto desde el punto de vista técnico, como también desde el punto de vista ético y humano.

Con los tres tuve una buena relación de verdadera amistad y respeto mutuo. Pero luego amplié mi conocimiento del Dogo viajando varias veces a la Argentina y conociendo prácticamente a todos los criadores argentinos y viendo muchos temas también; vi y entendí las diversas genealogías. Presenté algunos de mis perros en el Mundial de Buenos Aires y también fue una experiencia maravillosa.

Incluso ahora en este momento tenemos muchos amigos en Argentina que intercambian opiniones, ¡no terminamos nunca de aprender!

Cuando se trata de juzgar… Además del conocimiento canino, para emitir un juicio se necesita profesionalismo, equidad, imparcialidad, respeto por los expositores y sus perros, paciencia y sobre todo mucha pasión y amor por los perros.

Si un juez quiere ser bueno y respetado, debe estudiar mucho, conocer muy bien las razas que juzga, hacer continuos cursos de actualización y sobre todo nunca sentir que ha llegado al máximo, porque nunca dejas de aprender.

Juzgar implica tomar decisiones y elecciones: sólo puede haber un ganador...

En el BIS debe haber unos perros hermosos y todo lo que refleje el estándar de manera casi perfecta (porque la perfección no existe), así quien gane será muy feliz, pero también quien pierda si es deportivo y profesional, debe aceptar la derrota, considerando que estamos hablando de temas que hizo lo mejor de la raza y, por

lo tanto, excelentes representantes de la propia raza. Lamentablemente, a veces con numerosos anillos y con excelente calidad es muy difícil juzgar y hacer un ranking y aquí debe venir la preparación y el perfecto conocimiento de la carrera del juez. Tiene que fijarse en los detalles más pequeños de los temas para elegir los mejores. Solo puede haber un ganador y los demás lo lamentan.

Cuando juzgo, siempre trato de hacer la mejor victoria, puedo equivocarme como todos los demás, pero siempre será un error de buena fe, nunca ayudaré a alguien. Para ser respetado, un juez debe ser imparcial,

NEVER STOP LEARNING With all three I had a good relationship of true friendship and mutual respect. But later I expanded my knowledge of the Dogo by traveling several times to Argentina and meeting practically all Argentine breeders and investigating many topics as well; I saw and understood the various genealogies.

I presented some of my dogs at the World Cup in Buenos Aires and it was also a wonderful experience. Even now at this moment we have many friends in Argentina who exchange opinions, we never stop learning!

Since I was little I have been a great lover of all animals, especially dogs, and during my youth I was able to breed different breeds, expanding my knowledge in the canine field. I had bred Dogo Argentino since 1985, together with my wife Chiara and we established our kennel “dei Falchi Bianchi” in 1989.

2000-2003. In this last year I founded the D.A.C.I. (Dogo Argentino Club Italia).

In 2009 I became a specialized judge of the Dogo Argentino breed, the passion for judging was so great that, in addition to the Dogo, I currently judge many other breeds.

In short, a life dedicated to dogs is my great passion !!!

We have contributed to the growth and development of this breed in Italy, making it known through articles in many specialized magazines. I have written two books and made two videos for a major canine magazine. But above all, trying to work qualitatively, in fact, in addition to the various Italian and European championships, we have obtained with Ch. Actarus the title of 2002 World Champion.

I turned this passion not only into breeding, but also into judging. I really like going to shows and study all the breeds and, consequently, to be able to give my opinion to exhibitors and breeders. After 25 years of breeding the Dogo Argentino I felt that I could put my experience as a breeder and then as a judge within the reach of all enthusiasts and breeders and, of course, I really like the dog fancy.

In the nineties I had the pleasure of having Dr. Víctor Valiño, Dr. Fernando Moreno and Prof. Ermanno Maniero Trovati in my home.

When it comes to judging... In addition to canine knowledge, making a judgment requires professionalism, fairness, impartiality, respect for the exhibitors and their dogs, patience and above all a lot of passion and love for dogs.

If a judge wants to be good and respected, one must study hard, know the breeds he is judging very well, take continuous refresher courses and never feel that one has reached the peak because one never stops learning.

Judging involves making decisions and choices: there can only be one winner …

At the BIS there must be beautiful dogs and everything that reflects the standard, almost perfectly (because perfection does not exist), so whoever wins will be very happy, but also whoever loses, if they are sporty and professional, must accept defeat, considering that we are talking about features that made the best of the breed and, therefore, excellent representatives of the breed itself.

Unfortunately, sometimes with numerous rings and with excellent quality it is very difficult to judge and make a ranking and here must come the preparation and the perfect knowledge of the judge’s career.

One has to look at the smallest details to choose the best one. There can only be

si este es el caso, incluso el perdedor no tendrá nada que decir y respetará al juez.

Como escribí anteriormente fui nombrado Juez Especialista de Dogo en 2009, después de unos meses fui invitado a juzgar en Córdoba, Argentina, la cuna de la raza!!!

Honestamente, a pesar de haber estado criando Dogo durante muchos años, tenía un poco de miedo y quería causar una buena impresión. Antes de empezar a juzgar estaba un poco agitado, pero una vez dentro del ring me concentré en el Dogo y poco a poco el miedo pasó.

Por suerte, todo salió bien y quedé satisfecho. Por supuesto, a lo largo de los años se adquiere experiencia, se aprende a manejar mejor el anillo, se gana confianza y, en consecuencia, más tranquilidad al juzgar.

Desde pequeño siempre he vivido con perros del grupo 2 y por eso siempre he preferido estos perros. Pero al ser juez y luego estudiar su historia y estándares, he aprendido a disfrutar de todos los perros.

De hecho, después del Dogo, me expandí y en este momento juzgo a todo el Grupo 2, Pastore Maremmano Abruzzese, Grupo 4, casi todo el Grupo 5 y casi todo el Grupo 10.

He juzgado en Italia, Francia, España, Finlandia, Hungría, Turquía, Rusia, Montenegro, Macedonia, Croacia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Israel y Argentina. ¡Ahora me han invitado a Eurasia en Rusia! Estoy muy feliz por esta invitación porque, como saben, Eurasia es una exposición muy muy importante!

Siempre me ha divertido juzgar, tanto en Europa como en Asia. Hoy en día todas las exposiciones se organizan de forma profesional, a veces puede pasar que en algún kennel Club más pequeño haya menos organización, pero aún así siempre es bueno juzgar si se hace con pasión, sin importar dónde se juzgue y cómo se

organice. Hay algunos eventos que han sido muy importantes que quiero resaltar: he juzgado a la AMDA (Asociación Mundial de Dogo Argentino) dos veces, el primer Campeonato Mundial de Cane Corso, el Trofeo Mario Querci - Mastín Napolitano, Córdoba y Rosario en Argentina y dos veces en ENCI Winner y el Campeonato Mundial FCI en Milán, donde tuve el honor de juzgar con el Dr. Miguel Angel Martinez.

Además, por supuesto, a todos los jueces especializados en Europa para los Clubes.

Como amante de los perros latinoamericanos, personalmente solo conozco Argentina y creo que es excelente.

Ya en 2004 con mi esposa Chiara asistimos a una exposición internacional en Buenos Aires y tuvimos una gran impresión! Anillos espaciosos todos con alfombra, flores en las mesas de los jueces, gradas y perreras para perros en otro pabellón, para que los espectadores pudieran ver fácilmente los juicios.

Otra cosa muy importante son los tiempos de los juicios antes de entrar al ring, para que se evite la confusión en el ring y los perros puedan entrar en el último minuto sin esperas interminables. Entonces veo mucha pasión y profesionalismo con los perros, me gusta mucho la Cinofilia latinoamericana!

Los únicos que tienen el poder de mejorar una raza son los Clubes que dan directivas precisas y, en consecuencia, los criadores, que con su trabajo, deben adherirse al estándar de la raza y no seguir la moda del momento.

Un juez especialista con mucha experiencia en la raza debe dar una dirección a los criadores con el fin de mejorar cualquier problema de la raza que se encuentre en los momentos de los juicios. Para el mejoramiento de una raza es fundamental la colaboración entre jueces expertos, criadores y Clubes, todos unidos; la lucha solo da como resultado el declive de una raza.

When I judge, I always try to make the best victory, I can make a mistake like everyone else, but it will always be in good faith, I will never help someone to win.

To be respected, a judge must be impartial, if this is the case, even the loser will have nothing to say and will respect the judge.

As I wrote before, I was appointed a Dogo Specialist Judge in 2009, after a few months I was invited to judge in Córdoba, Argentina, the cradle of the breed!!!

Honestly, despite having been breeding Dogo Argentino for many years, I was a little scared and wanted to make a good impression. Before I started judging I was a bit agitated, but once inside the ring I focused on the Dogo and little by little the fear faded away. Luckily, everything went well and I was satisfied. Of course, over the years one gains experience, learns to handle the ring better, gains confidence and, consequently, more peace of mind when judging.

Since I was little I have always lived with group 2 dogs and that is why I have always preferred these dogs. But by becoming a judge and then studying their history and standards, I have learned to enjoy all dog breeds. In fact, after the Dogo, I expanded and at this time I judge the entire Group 2, Pastore Maremmano Abruzzese, Group 4, almost all of Group 5 and almost all of Group 10. I have judged in Italy, France, Spain, Finland, Hungary, Turkey, Russia, Montenegro, Macedonia, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Israel and Argentina. Now I have been invited to Eurasia in Russia! I am very happy for this invitation because, as you know, Eurasia is a very very important exhibition!

There are some events that have been very important that I want to highlight them: I have judged the AMDA (World Association of Argentine Dogo) twice, the first Cane Corso World Championship, the Mario Querci Trophy - Neapolitan Mastiff, Córdoba and Rosario in Argentina and twice at ENCI Winner and the FCI World Championship in Milan, where I had the honor of judging it with Dr. Miguel Angel Martinez.

Also, of course, to all the specialized judges in Europe for the Clubs.As a lover of Latin American dogs, I personally only know Argentina and I think it is excellent. Already in 2004 with my wife Chiara we attended an international show in Buenos Aires and we had a great impression! Spacious rings all with carpet, flowers on the judges’ tables, bleachers and dog kennels located at another pavilion, so that spectators could easily see the contests. Another very important thing is the judging times before entering the ring, so that confusion in the ring is avoided and the dogs can enter at the last minute without endless waits.

The only ones who have the power to improve a breed are the Clubs that give precise directives and, consequently, the breeders, who with their work, must adhere to the breed standard and not follow the fashion of the moment.

A specialized judge with a lot of experience in the breed should give direction to breeders in order to improve any breed problems encountered at the show during the judgement. For the improvement of a breed, the collaboration between expert judges, breeders and Clubs is essential; the fight would only result in the decline of a breed. I sincerely thank Cesar Malitti for this opportunity, it is an honor for me to be present in an important magazine like Animal Show and I take the opportunity to greet all our Argentine friends.

LOS STAFFY: UNA RAZA PARA QUERER

Mi vida siempre ha estado ligada con las mascotas; mis padres criaron Pekinés y Pastores Alemanes, de adolescente críe Doberman, después casado ya con hijos tuvimos Cocker spaniel y Maltés.

De un departamento pasamos a vivir en una casa, porque la familia iba creciendo, y decidimos tener una nueva mascota que sería un perro grande y guardián, pero sucedió lo impensado, los niños no quisieron llevarse a casa el perro que estaba acordado, ¿qué pasó? nos encontramos con un cachorro Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

Honestamente no sabía nada de la raza, siempre hemos pensado que eso fue amor a primera vista de los niños, así que ese año 2002 llegó el primer Staffy a casa, donde fue uno más de la familia y se

hizo cómplice de los niños en los juegos y travesuras, fue increíble la conexión.

Años más tarde adquirimos otro ejemplar, esta vez me preocupé del pedigree.

Empezamos a participar en las exposiciones del Kennel Club de Chile, donde conocimos gente extraordinaria que también aman los perros, y en especial la raza.

Desde un principio ofrecídesinteresadamente mi ayuda a la dirigencia del SBT Club de Chile, para concretar el sueño de lograr la tan anhelada Personalidad Jurídica del Club.

Este club viene trabajando desde hace muchos años de la mano de criadores especializados en la raza, como los señores, Antonio Osorio, Alexis Alvarez, Carlos Romero Barra, Mario Ramirez, Francisco Camus, Juan Gajardo, Ariel Barrientos Gutiérrez, entre

otros. Todos ellos se han preocupado en cuidar la estandarización de la raza en Chile.

El Staffy (diminutivo como se le conoce al Staffordshire Bull Terrier), no era una raza muy conocida, pero los dos últimos años se ha masificado en toda América su existencia, es por eso la importancia que debe existir un club en Chile que ayude a informar, guiar, controlar y evitar la masificación indiscriminada que, muchas veces, no contribuye a mantener el desarrollo correcto del estándar exigido por la institución canina oficial, reconocida por la Federación Cinológica internacional “FCI”, en este caso el Kennel Club de Chile.

THE STAFFYS: A BREED TO LOVE My life has always been linked to pets; my parents bred Pekingese and German Shepherds, as a teenager I bred Doberman, then married with children we had Cocker Spaniel and Maltese.

We moved from an apartment to live in a house, because the family was growing, and we decided to have a new pet that would be a large and a guardian dog, but the unexpected happened, the children did not want to take home the dog that was agreed… what happened? We met a Staffordshire Bull Terrier puppy. I honestly did not know anything about the breed, we have always thought that this was our children’s love at first sight, so that year 2002 the first Staffy came home, where he was one of the family and became an accomplice of the children in the games and mischief, the connection was amazing.

Gajardo Vidal, with the support of the Kennel Club of Chile, the first Specialized Exhibition of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier breed was held in November 2019 in the Pirque commune, on the shores of our beautiful Andes Mountains, with the participation of the great international judge Miguel Navarro, from Spain and president of the “CESBT - Club Español del Staffordshire Bull Terrier”, being one of the highest eminences of the breed worldwide.

Since December 2019 to date I have been actively participating and being a member

Years later we acquired another specimen, this time I was concerned about the pedigree. We began to participate in the exhibitions of the Kennel Club of Chile, where we met extraordinary people who also love dogs, and especially this breed.

From the beginning I selflessly offered my help to the SBT Club de Chile, to bring to life the dream of achieving the long-awaited Juridical Personality of the Club.

This club has been working for many years in the hands of breeders specialized in the breed, such as Antonio Osorio, Alexis Alvarez, Carlos Romero Barra, Mario Ramirez, Francisco Camus, Juan Gajardo, Ariel Barrientos Gutiérrez, among others. All of them have been concerned with taking care of the standardization of the breed in Chile.

The Staffy (diminutive as the Staffordshire Bull Terrier is known), was not a very well known breed, but in the last two years its existence has become widespread

con el apoyo del Kennel Club de Chile, se pudo realizar en noviembre 2019 en la comuna de Pirque, a orillas de nuestra bella Cordillera de Los Andes, siendo testigo, la primera Exposición Especializada de la raza Staffordshire Bull Terrier con la participación del gran juez internacional Miguel Navarro, español y presidente del “Club Español del C.E.S.B.T”, siendo una de las máximas eminencias de la raza a nivel mundial.

Desde diciembre del 2019 hasta la fecha vengo participando activamente ya siendo integrante de la Directiva del SBT Club de Chile. Les puedo contar que tenemos ya nuestro nombre inscrito y registrado legalmente; lamentablemente, también nos ha afectado la pandemia (Covid-19), tuvimos que suspender la Asamblea constituyente, que estaba fijada para el pasado 26 de marzo 2020, fecha nueva para agendar hasta nuevo aviso. Contamos con nuestros estatutos revisados y validados para compartir con nuestros socios a nivel nacional.

SBT Club de Chile es una Asociación de Derecho Privado, sin fines de lucro, denominada “ASOCIACIÓN STAFFORDSHIRE BULL TERRIER CLUB DE CHILE” compuesta por propietarios, expositores y criadores amantes de la raza.

La Asociación tiene por finalidad u objeto fomentar, promover y divulgar todo lo relativo a la crianza, el adiestramiento, el cuidado de los perros y la tenencia responsable de la raza STAFFORDSHIRE BULL TERRIER, así como actividades deportivas relacionadas a la misma raza y cualquier actividad relacionada en que participen dichos ejemplares, asesorar a los nuevos propietarios en educar y guiar en trámites propios del KCC. Felizmente, podemos decir que ha sido fundamental difundir la integración regional del club a nivel nacional, que hoy contamos

con la participación de socios de norte a sur de Chile. Estamos seguros que una vez que pase o se regularice la nueva forma de vivir post pandemia, vamos a volver a estar presentes en las exposiciones del Kennel Club de Chile, como en nuestras propias exposiciones especializadas de la raza.

Queremos ser un club fortalecido, serio, participativo e integral, gestionar diversas actividades para compartir, y solidificarnos como un grupo más cercano y familiar; vamos a contar próximamente con una página web e intranet para informar, educar y donde podremos efectuar una comunicación más participativa y efectiva entre todos sus socios de Arica a Punta Arenas.

of the Board of the SBT Club de Chile. I can tell you that we already have our name legally registered; unfortunately, the pandemic (Covid-19) has also affected us, we had to suspend the Constituent Assembly, which was set for March 26, 2020, a new date to schedule until further notice.

We have our revised and validated bylaws to share with our partners nationwide.

SBT Club de Chile is a non-profit Private Law Association called “ASOCIACIÓN STAFFORDSHIRE BULL TERRIER CLUB DE CHILE” composed of owners, exhibitors and breeders who love the breed.

The Association’s purpose is to encourage, promote and disseminate everything related to the breeding, training, care of dogs and responsible ownership of the STAFFORDSHIRE BULL TERRIER breed, as well as any activity related in which this breed participates, advise the new owners in educating and guiding in the procedures of the KCC. Happily, we can say that it has been essential to spread the regional integration of the club at the national level, that today we have the participation of members from north to south of Chile.

We are sure that once the new “normal” way of living comes, we will once again be present at the Kennel Club of Chile shows, as well as at our own specialized breed shows. We want to be a strengthened, serious, participatory and comprehensive club, manage various activities to share, and solidify ourselves as a closer and more familiar group; we will soon have a web page and intranet to inform, educate and where we can carry out a more participatory and effective communication among all its partners from Arica to Punta Arenas.

RESILIENCIA Y ADAPTACIÓN: PASIÓN POR LA CANOFILIA Soy Carolina Gamboa Calderón, Médico Veterinaria de la Universidad de La Salle , desde el 2001 socia de la Asociación Club Canino Colombiano y desde ese momento hasta hoy he sido parte de los comités o de la junta Directiva de esa Institución, directora del Comité Técnico, Comité de Relaciones Publicas, hice parte del Comité Disciplinario y ahora soy la Directora de Exposiciones de la ACCC desde el año 2018.

Actualmente estoy encargada de los eventos de la Asociación Club Canino Colombiano, y justo la semana anterior al inicio de nuestro circuito internacional de Bogotá CIB2020, decretaron la cuarentena obligatoria en Colombia y estábamos todos preparados, el evento, la ACCC, los propietarios, los manejadores, los jueces, los patrocinadores y por supuesto los perros, todos a la expectativa de la exposición. Después de tener todo listo y solo esperando la llegada del día de inicio del show, es muy frustrante que no se puedallevar a cabo.

Es en ese momento cuando nuestra vida tiene un cambio drástico: los niños entran a clases virtuales, las reuniones se vuelven virtuales y todas las actividades a nuestro alrededor se trasladan al contexto virtual; Entonces surge la idea de hacer una exposición virtual, hablo con mi suplente en el comité JUAN JOSÉ RUÍZ G (Otro gran apasionado por nuestro deporte) y después de una gran lluvia de ideas, le damos forma a nuestro evento que se llamaría 1ª EXPO VIRTUAL ACCC y tendría que asemejarse lo mayor posible a una exposición presencial, presentamos la propuesta a la Junta Directiva y es aprobada, es así como empieza esta mágica aventura y de la cual les voy a contar todos los detalles.

Ha sido un proceso de aprendizaje, desde la manera como se deben recibir las

inscripciones hasta la forma como se transmite el evento en vivo.

Las características más importantes son: 1. Es un evento completamente virtual, recreativo y con el fin de mantener la afición activa.

2. El juzgamiento se hace con 3 jueces que se encuentran cada uno en su casa y en videoconferencia, es moderado por el comité de exposiciones quien se encarga de reproducir los videos, y llevará las respectivas planillas según el juzgamiento.

Los jueces tendrán unas paletas, cada una con un número: 1, 2, 3, 4 y 5.

Después de finalizado cada video, se le da paso a los jueces para que al mismo tiempo levanten la paleta con el puntaje correspondiente para el ejemplar en juzgamiento. El ejemplar ganador de la clase será el que obtenga mayor puntaje.

3. En cada raza: para elegir el mejor cachorro macho, la mejor cachorra hembra, el mejor joven macho, la mejor joven hembra, el mejor Adulto Macho, la mejor Adulta hembra, Se tendrán en cuenta los puntajes que obtuvieron en el video y el ganador es el que obtenga el mayor puntaje.

4. Para el mejor cachorro de la raza, el mejor jovende la raza y el mejor Adulto de raza: Cada Juez levantará la paleta en blanco por su favorito (macho o hembra), el que tenga más paletas blancas levantadas es el ganador.

5. En cualquier caso, si hay un empate se decidirá el ganador pidiendo a los jueces que levanten las paletas en blanco por su favorito, el ejemplar que tenga más paletas blancas levantadas es el ganador.

6. Para el Juzgamiento de Grupos: Se muestra la foto de cada uno de los

ejemplares ganadores de las razas que corresponden al grupo que se esté juzgando, separado en cachorros, jóvenes y adultos. Los jueces escriben en una planilla sus 5 puestos, el 1er lugar obtendrá 5 puntos, el 2° lugar obtendrá 4 puntos, el 3er lugar obtendrá 3 puntos, el 4° lugar obtendrá 2 puntos y el 5° lugar obtendrá 1 punto. La sumatoria de estos resultados evidenciará los 5 ejemplares ganadores del grupo. SE PREMIARÁN 5 LUGARES. 7. Para los juzgamientos de final de exposición: Se muestra la foto de cada uno de los ejemplares ganadores de grupo, separado en cachorros, jóvenes y adultos.

Los jueces escriben en las planillas sus 4 puestos, el 1er lugar obtendrá 5 puntos, el 2° lugar obtendrá 4 puntos, el 3er lugar obtendrá 3 puntos y el 4° lugar obtendrá 2 puntos.

La sumatoria de estos resultados evidenciará los 4 ejemplares ganadores

RESILIENCE AND ADAPTATION: PASSION FOR DOG FANCY I am Carolina Gamboa Calderón, Veterinarian of the University of La Salle, since 2001 a member of the Colombian Canine Club Association (ACCC) and from that moment until today I have been part of the committees or the Board of Directors of the Institution, Director of the Technical Committee, Public Relations Committee, I was part of the Disciplinary Committee and now I am the Director of Exhibitions of the ACCC since 2018.

I am currently in charge of the events of the ACCC, and just a week before the start of our International Circuit in Bogotá - CIB2020, the mandatory quarantine in Colombia was decreed; we were all prepared, the event, the ACCC, dog owners, handlers, judges, sponsors and of course the dogs, all waiting for the exhibition. It is very frustrating that it could not be carried out.

After trying different registration methods, we found that the most efficient way is through Google Forms, in which the person responsible for registration enters the specimen’s data and uploads the video and photo, as well as a copy of the pedigree for foreign ones.

Después de probar diferentes métodos de inscripción encontramos que la manera más eficiente es por medio de un formulario de Google Forms, en el cual el responsable de la inscripción ingresa los datos del ejemplar y sube el video y la foto, así como la copia del pedigree para los ejemplares extranjeros.

El video debe comenzar con el perro POSADO, luego mostrar la expresión del ejemplar, la mordida (debe poderse ver clara y por todos los ángulos), y las características específicas que crea que deba mostrarse para cada raza en particular, en el caso de los machos mostrar los testículos; Seguido de esto, el ejemplar debe realizar el movimiento alrededor de la pista, luego un ida y vuelta y terminar con un free baiting.

Y para la foto deberá ser una sola foto del ejemplar posado en vista lateral, debe

ser tomada con la cámara o el celular en posición horizontal. No se aceptan fotos retocadas o de Podio o con cintas o reconocimientos.

Y Hemos creado una especie de Ranking para mantener premiar la constancia y amor por la cinofilia, y para todas las exposiciones virtuales que realice la ACCC, los ejemplares de cada una de las clases (cachorros, jóvenes y adultos) ganadores de raza acumularán un puntaje equivalente a los perros derrotados en su clase y categoría (es decir: El cachorro ganador de la raza, ganará tantos puntos como ejemplares cachorros machos y hembras haya en la raza, aplica igual para jóvenes y adultos). Al dar por terminado el ciclo de exposiciones virtuales, se sumarán los puntos obtenidos y los mejores ejemplares: cachorro, joven y adulto de cada raza obtendrán el derecho a participar en el “VIRTUAL DOG WINNER”.

A medida que nuestros eventos han pasado se han unido diferentes patrocinadores que

han galardonado nuestras exposiciones virtuales, tales como, Reynaldo Cepeda, Patty Tafur, Proplan, Italcol; y es una gran vitrina para las revistas caninas, impresas y sobre todo virtuales por la versatilidad de sus publicaciones las cuales pueden tener el carácter de premio o galardón según sea el caso.

Y es de esta manera como alrededor del mundo, ahora las exposiciones virtuales son una manera de mantener nuestra cinofilia activa, nuestro deporte, y nuestros perros en excelentes condiciones. La metodología ha cambiado según cada organizador, lo hacen diferido, lo hacen por medio de fotos, otros por videoconferencias, pero independientemente de la forma, el fondo es lo importante y ojalá se sigan haciendo mientras podemos volver a vernos y tener exposiciones presenciales rodeados de la protección y todas las medidas de bioseguridad necesarias. Mientras esto pasa la ACCC seguirá haciendo exposiciones virtuales y con la misma metodología.

Finalmente y después de esto, me surge una pregunta y es: ¿Hasta dónde puede llegar la pasión?, A lo que yo puedo contestar: Hasta donde tu imaginación y amor lo permitan.

Así es mi pasión por la Canofilia.

BULLDOG FRANCÉS ARGENTINA Y EL MUNDO ENCUENTRO VIRTUAL Hola ,mi nombre es María Coronel, me presento y hago un breve resumen de como comencé esta bella actividad para los lectores que no me conozcan.

Hace unos 11 años comencé a estudiar la raza bulldog francés, iba a exposiciones, hablaba con criadores, veterinarios, etc ... intenté informarme lo más que pude hasta que me animé y comencé a transitar la bella actividad de cría con el afijo Eluney Amaru. Es tanto lo que me gusta la actividad y el respeto hacia la raza que formé un grupo Bulldog Francés Argentina y el Mundo para todos los amantes como yo. En él hablamos sobre el estándar, salud, maneras correctas de adquirir un cachorro y muchos temas más que me parecen de importancia e interesantes de abordar.

También soy la organizadora de los Shows online en Bulldog Francés Argentina y el mundo Encuentro Virtual.

Esta idea comenzó cuando me di cuenta que la pandemia venía para quedarse un largo tiempo. Por suerte, conté con la ayuda y acompañamiento de grandes criadores y handlers de nuestra querida actividad. Fue ahí donde organicé la primera exposición virtual. En ella me acompañaron excelentes amigos para hacer el juzgamiento: la Sra. Monica Caubet (Arg), criadora de la raza Boxer, el Sr. Gustavo Sánchez criador de Argentina de Imarfe y el Sr. Diego Garcia, handler profesional argentino, radicado desde hace tiempo ya en Estados Unidos. Fue un Show del cual disfrutamos muchísimo, donde se anotaron 45 ejemplares de todo el mundo!

La organización trató que se asemeje a shows reales; los participantes debieron enviar fotos y videos de estructura y movimiento. Todo el material lo edité en un único video y el día del show los jueces lo vieron en vivo en el grupo, para que todos puedan disfrutar de verlos y recibir la súmula, que tan linda es de escuchar.

Preparé el catálogo en el cual todos los ejemplares tenían un número para el día del show. La metodología es a base del juzgamiento del FCI, claro que en este caso fue solo es un encuentro recreativo para pasar una linda tarde ...

Luego que la pasamos tan lindo en este primer encuentro, seguí organizando más encuentros. En el segundo evento me acompañó la Sra. Claudia Dicar de Portugal, la Sra. Veronica Mansilla de Argentina y por último el Sr Carlos Da Revoltiña Señoris Carballo de España. ¡Se obtuvo una gran convocatoria: 65 ejemplares de todo el mundo!

Nuevamente fue un gran fin de semana.

En la última fecha me acompañaron, la Sra. Jueza Vivian Maury de Venezuela, radicada ya hace tiempo en Estados Unidos, el Sr. Alexandre Menezes, criador de Portugal, el Sr. Vicent Sapinya, criador de España y el Sr. Nestor A. Sánchez, handler profesional de Bogotá. ¡Tuvimos la oportunidad de ver 81 ejemplares inscriptos, fueron 4 Shows super interesantes! En este evento Animal

Show Magazine estuvo presente para los siguientes ganadores: Expo Alex Dicar: MARQUES ‘S DE SALDAÑA LEADY JULIETH EXPO VIVIAN MAURY: LENA SHMILEK EXPO NESTOR SANCHEZ :CARBON PETITE GLAMOUR EXPO Vicente: JAMAICA SOLAR DE MORENA Hoy por hoy me encuentro organizando un evento más para vivir una fiesta a puro Bulldog francés! Porque de esto se trata, poder disfrutar de nuestra actividad, de preparar a los ejemplares para que se vean bien bellos y reunirnos todos en un mismo momento desde diferentes partes del mundo.

FRENCH BULLDOG ARGENTINA AND THE WORLD VIRTUAL ENCOUNTER Hello, my name is María Coronel, let me introduce myself and make a brief summary of how I started this beautiful activity.

About 11 years ago I began to study the French bulldog breed, I went to exhibitions, spoke with breeders, veterinarians, etc... I tried to inform myself as much as I could until I was encouraged and began to experience the beautiful breeding activity bringing to life Eluney Amaru kennel.

I enjoy the activity so much and respect the breed highly, hence I put together a group called French Bulldog Argentina and the World (Bulldog Frances Argentina y el Mundo) for all lovers like me. In it we discuss the standard, health, correct ways to acquire a puppy and many other topics that seem important and interesting to address.

the material was edited in a single video and on the show day the judges saw it live in the group, so that everyone can enjoy watching them and receive the critique, which is so interesting to listen to.

I prepared the catalog in which all the specimens had a number show day. The methodology is based on FCI judgment, of course, in this case it was only a recreational meeting to spend a nice afternoon...

After we had such a great time in this first meeting, I continued organizing more virtual encounters. In the second event I was accompanied by Mrs. Claudia Dicar from Portugal, Mrs. Veronica Mansilla from Argentina and at least but not last Mr. Carlos Da Revoltiña Señoris Carballo from Spain.

I am also the organizer of the online shows of the French Bulldog Argentina and the Virtual Encounter World (Bulldog Frances Argentina y el Mundo Encuentro Virtual) group. This idea started when I realized that the pandemic was coming to stay for a long time. Luckily, I had the help and accompaniment of great breeders and handlers from our beloved activity, and the first virtual exhibition was organized.

A great amount of participants was obtained: 65 specimens from all over the world! Again it was a great weekend.

On the last date, I was accompanied by Judge Mrs. Vivian Maury from Venezuela, who has been living in the United States for a long time, Mr. Alexandre Menezes, breeder from Portugal, Mr. Vicent Sapinya, breeder from Spain and Mr. Nestor A. Sánchez, professional handler from Bogotá.
