a letter from our president Dear Members, I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer. I have really enjoyed my first few months as the MJCC’s President. It has been wonderful working with Larry and his staff to enhance and improve our Facility and our Programming.
Over the summer, we also added 12 new pieces of cardio equipment to the Wellness Center. We have implemented a rotational program that replaces 1/3 of the equipment each year. So each year, 1/3 of the equipment will be new and stateof-the-art and after each 3-year cycle, we will have replaced every piece of equipment. This will keep our Wellness Center fresh and on the cutting edge of new cardio technology.

wellness Tai Chi Chuan Practice Can Help You Live Longer Tai Chi Chuan is a refined martial art and exercise system; what you get out of it depends on what you put into your practice. • Do you want to live a longer and healthier life? • Do you want to improve your performance in most physical activities? • Do you want to meditate, relax deeply, increasing your sense of well-being?
the serious, quality, long-term practice of Tai Chi can slow down the rate of aging, send some serious illnesses into remission, and, do even more to help with your physical fitness. A high-quality practice of Tai Chi combined with a healthy lifestyle slows down the aging process. Practicing Tai Chi is like investing for your future.
Tai Chi can help you achieve all of those things. Even new students, practicing at a beginner level, get a lot from Tai Chi. There have been numerous scientific studies, in which total novices performed the slow form of Tai Chi Chaun, two or three times a week, for about an hour for a few months. This is nowhere near enough time to develop a high quality practice, however, they still saw many measurable benefits. The May 2009 edition of Harvard Women’s Health Watch states, “Although Tai Chi is slow and gentle and doesn’t leave you breathless, it addresses the key components of fitness — muscle strength, flexibility, balance, and, to a lesser degree, aerobic conditioning.” The article goes on to state that when combined with conventional therapy, Tai Chi is helpful for arthritis, low bone density, recovery from breast cancer, heart disease, heart failure, hypertension, Parkinson’s disease, sleep problems, and recovery from stroke. There is also significant indication that this gentle exercise can help strengthen the immune system. There is also plenty of evidence that
