a message from our board chair This Fall, is the start of our 2018-2019 Jewish Literary and Cultural Arts Series. We are excited to bring you a broad composition of literary arts events throughout the year including our Celebrating Empowered Women’s Luncheon, different authors, artists, dance, film, and more! Please be on the lookout for the brochure with details on these exciting upcoming events! We have had some exciting new renovations at the J including our gymnasium and Indoor pool renovations. We also would also like to thank Eileen and Steve Wishnia for the new equipment in the The Fun Zone. We are grateful for this unbelievable gift and our little ones are loving it!
Elise Jordan, Board Chair Dear Members, It has been a wonderful summer even though it seemed to have passed so quickly! We hope you all had a great time spending summer days at the Outdoor Water Park and relaxing by the pool. One of my favorite things about the summer is our precious little summer campers. The J was full of so many smiling faces all through the halls. I know so many memories were made thanks to our
As we approach the High Holidays, I would like to wish everyone L’Shanah Tova and hope you have a wonderful High Holiday Season. Please refer to our holiday closure schedule on the next page to see when the J will be closed. I invite you this fall to try one of our group fitness classes. You have 60+ classes per week to choose from included in your membership! The J has so many upcoming events, and I look forward to seeing you all there. There really is just something about this place! B’Shalom,
wonderful summer camp staff! Another big event that I would like to send my congratulations to, is the 2018 JCC Maccabi Games that took place in Orange County, CA this past August. For those of you that are not familiar with the JCC Macabbi Games, they are an Olympicstyle sporting competition held annually. We had 8 athletes and artists from Memphis representing the MJCC in the largest Jewish youth event in the world. We are so proud of those that competed this year – you made history!

shainberg art gallery "Co-Evolve”, a Juxtaposition of mixed media and meta by Dana Finimore
Opening Reception: Thursday, September 6, from 5:30-7:30pm In the gallery: September 5–28 Artist's Statement: Working in metal and mixed media, I work intuitively so that the execution is reactionary. I break down the terrain into a series of marks, textures, and shapes. Although the wearable sculptures and paintings are closely related, they ultimately co-evolve as separate pieces during my process. This reciprocal act lends itself to making work that is completely responsive to the renewal of body and mind that I experience while spending time in nature.

es Group Fitn
My name is Jonece, but I like to be called JoJo. I am from Memphis, born and raised. I have a twin brother, four sisters, and a puppy I recently adopted. I played basketball throughout high school and obtained my Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science from the University of Memphis. Being an athlete, I have always had a passion for fitness and I knew that I wanted to have a career that makes exercise and nutrition fun for everyone. After years of working in this industry, it has been so fulfilling to help others gain and maintain a healthy lifestyle. What won me over about the MJCC is the feeling of family. It makes my job even more rewarding and I can't think of anywhere else that I would rather be.
