hree PING pros will be playing and another four serving as captain or assistant captains when the 14th Solheim Cup, the world’s preeminent team competition in women’s golf, tees off Friday near Heidelberg, Germany. PING founder Karsten Solheim and his wife, Louise, created the event, first played in 1990. G30 LS Tec drivers and new i irons will be in the bag for both Azahara Muñoz and Caroline Masson playing for Team Europe, which looks for its third-straight win over the U.S.
PING Pro Carin Koch captains the Europeans, and PING Pro Maria McBride is a vice captain. Angela Stanford makes her sixth Solheim Cup appearance for the Americans, who will have PING pros Pat Hurst and Wendy Ward as assistant captains. The eighth playing of the PING Junior Solheim Cup, for girls ages 12 to 18, kicked off the week’s events. PING Chairman & CEO John A. Solheim founded the competition in 2002.
