California’s Balcony & Deck Inspection Law Get Ready to Comply with SB 721 Senate Bill 721 requires multifamily residential buildings with three or more dwelling units to have their balconies and other exterior elevated elements inspected by January 1, 2025, and every six years thereafter. Wood-based external elevated structures, including decks, porches, stairways, walkways, and entry structures that are more than six-feet above ground level must be inspected by the state-mandated deadline.
