geing starts earlier than we think. Making healthy choices sooner rather than later can significantly lessen the impacts of ageing. Ageing is only 25% genetic - the rest is under your control. Here are some tips about how to keep well as you age.

Keep moving Staying active is important when you’re getting older (especially if you have health conditions). Regular physical activity can improve your health and wellbeing and make it easier to perform daily tasks. Being active for 30 minutes a day encourages your brain to release chemicals to improve your mood. Remember, if you are looking forward to an activity it will be easier to do. You can also add to what you already do – take the stairs instead of a lift and park further away from the supermarket. Get involved with sports clubs, walking groups and community classes.

Take care of you Remember to fill up your own cup before your fill up another’s. As you age, invest time in yourself to help you live your most fulfilling life.

Stay connected As we age, staying connected to our communities can be extremely beneficial for mental health and wellbeing as well as physical health. Connect with wh nau/family and friends in ways that are meaningful and connect with your community through clubs and events.
