EDITOR’S FOREWORD APPROACH PUBLISHING CO.,LTD.
Editor in Chief Gerard Mosselman Office Manager Pimwee P. (Kob) Graphic Office Thaiso Media ™
The rumour has it …a new road, up on Soi 112 after the concrete roughway passed APPROACH office , to the right, has been asphalted to connect Soi 112 with the frontage road going to Pala U road on one side and to Soi 88 passing the new courthouse of justice and peace into town. The road has two cycle paths, is fully lighted and will be the home to a University and a hospital, finally doing away with the garbage disposal. In addition, the rumour has it that Soi 102 will be paved all the way up to this new road making access into town even better. Good money exchange news. A newly opened exchange counter on Petschkasem road, next to the My Way Hotel after the fly over coming from the South, is always 1 or 2 points over the bank exchange rate. I have exchanged some Euro for over THB 40.- whilst the other banks were offering 38.9 or 39.1. The establishment is called SuperRich and originates in Bangkok where they are very successful. Constructed by the Royal Army, a bit South of Hua Hin, a grand park called Ratchapakdi with giant statues of the Rama Kings was inaugurated. The seven kings are King Ramkhamhaeng of the Sukhothai Period, King Naresuan and King Narai of the Ayutthaya Period, King Taksin of the Thonburi Period, King Rama I, King Rama IV and King Rama V. Worthwhile going there to have a look! The grand opening followed a cycle tour spearheaded by our beautiful princess HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha daughter of HRH Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn. More than 3,000 cyclists on Saturday rode bicycles for a total distance of 126.6 kilometres, started from a Ratchapakdi “King’s Memorial Park” in Hua Hin. Our resort town has grown rapidly over the past decade!

A Day in and
Around
HUA HIN
The bus or taxi drive from Suvarnabhumi airport takes you right across Thailand to the “paradise” city of Hua Hin. Now Hua Hin isn’t the place to head to if you’re looking for wild and untamed adventures. That said, with its diminutive but lively day and nightlife scene you can certainly find some fun if you look hard enough. Scattered about town are several clusters of beer bars, a number of family-friendly pubs and bars and one or two clubs. On arrival and after checking in, the beach is most likely your next target. It streches for several kilometres and you could practically walk from the Southern most point of Hua Hin , we call it the “monkey rock” to Petchaburi 100km North. However, as there are quite some things to see in Hua Hin, let me take you through town and it’s interesting places. 10
APPROACH October 2015
Apart from the shopping facilities, the many tailors and optical shops , a visit to the Plearn Wan Shopping Village takes you back to the 50´s.
the festive atmosphere resembles that of a well-organised temple fair from decades ago. It is open all day.
Plearn Wan feels more like a living museum where you can experience a slice of life in 1950s. The two-storey courtyard style building, an architectural statement in itself, houses a community of period-style shops selling everything from liquor, inexpensive plastic, tin toys, snacks as well as a beauty salon, photo studio, outdoor cinema screen and a 20-room guesthouse or ‘Piman Plern Wan. When it’s crowded, usually at night,
Taking a taxi or a public bus, a bit further outside of town. Tucked in Soi 112, about 6km south of town centre there is the Sam Pan Nam Floating Market which is a large scale market fashioned in the style of middle Rattanakosin Period (King Rama VI). The market’s vast landscaped grounds encompass a large manmade lake, show islands, mini train track, over 200 shops and 40 boat vendors offering all kinds of food and snacks. From there on it is a 10 minutes drive to the Wat Huay Mongkol. This Buddhist temple is home to a Big Buddha statue that was commissioned by Queen Sirikit. It houses the largest statue in the world of Luang Phor Thuad, set within a park-like setting that attracts many visitors each weekend. Luang Phor Thuad is a legendary Thai monk revered

for his enlightenment and ability to perform miracles, many believe that the amulets created in his image guarantee safety in times of distress. By now you have spent most of the morning going around Hua Hin. Freshen up and get an early evening drink at Mai Thai situated next door to the Hilton. This is one of Hua Hin’s most popular bars, attracting a steady crowd most evenings. Elevated above street level you can observe shoppers and revelers and watch live sports over well priced drinks or visit the The Beer Garden in Soi Bintabat. It consists of a large variety of Food & Beverage caterers with plenty of room for about 300 guests with a selection of Sushis, Thai delicacies, Pizzas and Steaks from 9:00 am for Breakfast until way after midnight. A stroll towards the middle of town where the Night Market starts (ask for directions). The market is populated with vendor stalls of every trade, selling everything from cheap souvenirs to handicrafts.
Clothes, CD´s , Videos and of course food food food. Hawker vans sell drinks & cocktails and seafood stalls serve fresh fish and other seafood, grilled before your eyes. Breathing in the atmosphere is being a night out in our paradise city by the beach. On your way back you may want to drop in at the Hilton Brewery for a night cap with life music. Later at night, a lively band comes on playing a wide range of international music and a guest DJ spins the latest in nightclub beats, making the Hua Hin Brewing Company the place to be for quality evening entertainment until 2:00 am. This vibrant venue is also very popular with locals, making it a great venue for tourists to experience a genuine Hua Hin icon. On weekends a visit to the Cicada Market is a must. It was created as a medium of connection to artists, creators, designers, tourists, students and community through integrating
culture and arts with lifestyles. As an art market with atmosphere of Hua Hin, Cicada Market is a source of contemporary art in various fields, including the invention of handmade decorative items, fashion clothes, collective second hand items and SME products with innovative ideas to be displayed and sold in open-style mat and shop. Moreover, open eyes and open mind with creative activities, workshops and exhibitions such as performances, dance, music, fine arts from university, community theatre and various artists. Open every Friday & Saturday from 16:00 hrs to 23:00 hrs and Sunday 16:00 hrs to 22:00 hrs. Hua Hin has a lot to offer and day trips to venues outside the city including Nature and Wild life reserves , pristine mangrove parks and virgin coastal areas makes your stay unforgettable. As they say a dreamy coastal city in paradise !

TRAVEL IN THAILAND
The
Far South When travelling through Thailand, the far South is definitely a must as pristine beaches , clear water and astonishing nature can be found nowhere else. Driving down from Bangkok through Cha Am and Hua Hin, the highway (41) takes you through Prachuab Khiri Khan, Chumpon to Surat Thani and Nakhon Si Thamamarath where you can now follow the coastal road (408) to Songkhla and further South to join highway 43 and 42 to Pattani and Narathiwat. You have now done about 1000Km south of Hua Hin. Pattani is a small Province with irresistible charm, rich in historical significance and distinctive customs and traditions as a result of its ethnic diversity and wonderful hospitality; Pattani also has natural scenic beauty that includes rivers, streams and waterfalls as well as long golden beaches along the Gulf of Thailand. Pattani is both the name of the province in the south of Thailand and the city that is its capital. It contains two major rivers, the Tani and Sai Buri and covers a relatively flat region with a long coastline that runs 170 kilometres along the Gulf of Thailand. Pattani still maintains the ruins of an ancient town in Amphoe Yarang that once served as an important port and centre of administration, trade, and culture for many centuries. Attractions in modern-day Pattani include unspoiled nature, numerous historical sites, and a traditional culture, which has benefited from the integration of Thai, Chinese and Islam settlers. Narathiwat is located on the coast of the Gulf of Thailand at the border of Malaysia at Su-ngai Kolok district, a bit 14
APPROACH October 2015
South from Pattani, where the southern railway line ends. Close to the Malaysian border. The province has a white elephant called Phra Sri Nararat Rajakarin, who is featured on the provincial seal. At Su-ngai Kolok district is the centre of an economic and border tourism, its people are engaged in fishing and trading with neighbouring countries. Narathiwat draws many Malaysians and Singaporean visitors and features a distinct culture with many Muslim Thais. Seventy five percent of Narathiwat is covered with jungle and mountains, there are numerous beaches, and there a number of magnificent temples to visit.
TRAVEL IN THAILAND We stayed at the Grand Garden Hotel in Narathiwat and paid only Baht 1,500 for a double room with breakfast. They have Standard rooms and Suites. The Suites are Baht 2,500 and quite comfortable. People down South are very friendly and welcome tourists with a “Smile. The beaches are very clean and the water clear as can be. Due to any irregularities that may occur, it is not advisable to go further inland as there could be political unrest. However the coast is very safe and beautiful.
On your way back, you may want to divert to higway 4 from Phattalung to Trang and Krabi and so return north on highway 44 at Than Bok Khorani National Park to highway 41 north to Hua Hin and Bangkok or follow highway 4 to Phang- Nga and Phuket. It all depends how much time you have.

AZURE RESTAURANT
Intercontinental Hua Hin
As you walk down the main lobby towards the pool and beach area, the Azure restaurant is on your left side. Open and airy, pool side and practically on the beach front.
Fresh Catch of the Day Food Review at the Azure Restaurant By GMoss
Welcomed by Culinary Director Glenn Roberts and Marketing Executive Khun Wipawan (Cartoon),the catch of the day menu awaited my arrival.
Although my favourite wines are more Shirazes, Cabernets and Riojas, a chilled fruity Rosé matched this platter perfectly.
Overlooking the Gulf of Siam I could image this to be a romantic setting in the early and late evening.
When I thought it was all over, the main Seafood Platter was served, resembling a High Tea basket. Hot grilled Phuket Lobster, White Sea Bass filet, Squid Sambal Cheese Scallops, steamed Garlic Prawns were served with Sambal Chili, sweet Thai Chili sauce, Sesame Mayonnaise dips and slices of buttered toast on the side.
A fresh sparkling blanc de blancs wine was served as a welcoming toast with a treat of starters called Ying and Yang, which in Chinese philosophy describes 2 opposite or contrary forces which are actually complementary and interconnected. In this case it was a crispy fried Honey covered Baby Squid next to succulent Prawn coated with a Mayonnaise based creamy sauce. As a second serving, another seafood trio Veritas consisting of pan fried US Scallops, crispy oven baked warm Hua Hin Crab Cake and a Raspberry Sorbet covered with a Tomato Salsa. Maybe not a usual combination but definitely exciting and very tasty. 16
APPROACH October 2015
An absolute Seafood Heaven which is a must among seafood aficionados and gourmets. The fresh seafood was served by Khun Nok, our lovely table Maitre. We stuck to the Rosé, to finish off with an Azure Sampler of several desserts such as Chocolate Fondant, Lemon Grass Crème Brûlée, Banana Walnut Pudding
and two Profiteroles filled with Mango & Vanilla Ice Cream. A fresh but sweet Muscat dessert wine rounded off this highly recommendable early lunch. After a double Espresso we were back on our feet again. The Azure at the Intercontinental has become known as a place to be in Hua Hin, especially with the roof bar overlooking the Resort, the beach and the Gulf of Siam which is opening soon..

ASMINE
Willingtonia hortensis or Indian Cork Tree by Dr. George F. Grossniklaus
The Jasmin Tree (also Indian cork tree, Millingtonia hortensis) is the only species of the genus Millingtonia in the family Bignoniaceae (Bignoniaceae). The genus name honors the British botanist Thomas Millington.
T
he Jasmin Tree is an 8 to 25 m tall tree. The alternate opposite standing leaves, are 40 to 100 cm long with two to threefold divided subleaves and are equipped with 1 cm long petioles. The leaflets are entire peripheric, usually 5 to 7 (rarely 2) cm long and 1.5 to 4 cm wide. The base is rounded and obliquely, the tip is sharpened. On each side of the main axis of the leaflets are four to five lateral veins. The inflorescences are terminal standing, zymรถs panicles with a diameter of about 25 cm. (This branch mode of an inflorescence, where the respective main axis ends with a flower, then one speaks of a Zyme or zymรถs inflorescence). Inflorescence stems and flower stalks are provided with a pale yellow hairy cover. The high- and bracts are shed. The flower stems are slender and about 1 cm long. The swinging lobed calyx is small, cup-shaped, and 2 to 4 mm long and wide. The crown is colored white, their corolla tube is 3 to 7 cm long, at the base of only 2 to 3 mm wide.

APPROACH October 2015
In the bud the corollas are circular, during heyday ovatelanceolate and 1 to 2 cm in size. Along the edge, they are densely hairy on top. Respectively, the top two and the bottom three crowny overlaps standing together, so that a double lip crown is formed. The four stamens are in two different sizes near the top of the corolla tube. The anthers are made of an elliptical, fertile theca, the second theca has atrophied into a tailed Annex. Apart from the stamens, sterile Staminodium is formed. The egg-shaped ovary is hairless, standing on a ring to cup shaped bloom floor and contains a large number of ovules, which are in four rows. The stylus is long and carries a tongue-shaped, indented, bilobed scar which protrudes slightly above the crown. The fruits are linealistic, depressed, septum rows dehiscent capsules of 30 to 35 cm in length and a diameter of 1 to 1.5 cm
THAI NATURE
Tall and straight, with comparatively few branches, its popularity lies in its ornamental value. It is a fine tree, fast growing, but with brittle wood, liable to be damaged by storms. The ashy bark is cracked and furrowed and the numerous fissures make removal of the cork an easy matter. It is used as an inferior substitute for true cork. From April until the rains and again in November and December, a profusion of silvery-white, delightfully fragrant flowers crown the foliage. Many flowers are delicately tinted with rose. As the flowers are shortlived, the flower sprays mostly consist largely of long whitish buds, while the ground below is spangled with innumerable little stars. Between January and March the leaves are shed and renewed during April and May, although the tree is never quite naked. The fruit is very long and narrow, pointed at both ends and contains thin flat seeds. Trees do not seed very easily in India. The long, fragrant flowers are commonly woven into an ornamental braid called Veni in Maharashtra.
Distribution
The species grows from altitudes 500 to 1200 meters. The species is widespread in China, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. It is often cultivated in India, Indonesia and Malaysia. , both in gardens and avenues According to mythology, this is a heavenly tree brought to earth by the god Krishna. A quarrel over it ensued between Satyabhama and Rukmini, Krishna’s wives. But Krishna planted the tree in Satyabhama’s courtyard in a way that when the tree flowered, the flowers fell in Rukmini’s courtyard. Another romantic story woven around the tree is about Parijataka, a princess. She fell in love with the sun but when he deserted her she committed suicide and a tree sprung from the ashes. Unable to stand the sight of the lover who left her, the tree flowers only at night and sheds them like tear-drops before the sun rises.

FINANCIAL
EUROZONE RECOVERING The euro zone economy grew faster than expected in the second quarter, data showed on Tuesday, mainly because of faster growth in Italy and Greece.
T
he European Union’s statistics office Eurostat said gross domestic product in the 19 countries sharing the euro rose 0.4 percent quarter-on-quarter in the April-June period for a 1.5 percent year-on-year rise.
Ongoing political uncertainty, exports slump, rising household debt and a lack of reform momentum are now increasingly taking a negative impact on Thailand’s economic growth.
This is a revision of the previously reported figures of a 0.3 percent quarterly rise and a 1.2 percent year-on-year gain.
The causes of increased household debts range from, increased cost of living, poor farm harvests, increased spending through credit cards to increased tuition fees of their children and excessive spending on hire purchases.
The revision is mainly driven by better-than-expected data in Italy, the third biggest economy of the euro zone. The other major economies of the euro zone confirmed past estimates, with Germany growing 0.4 percent on a quarterly basis, and 1.6 percent yearly. France confirmed no growth in the second quarter and a 1 percent gain compared to last year. The Greek economy slightly expanded also in the first quarter of the year by 0.1 percent, an upward revision from the no-growth scenario previously estimated by Eurostat. In the second quarter, the Greek economy has grown 1.6 percent yearly instead of the previous estimates of 1.4 percent. The growth in the euro zone economy has been helped mainly by a large positive net contribution from trade and household consumption as well as some government spending, despite a fall in investment and inventories.
Thailand Economics Consumer confidence index for August 2015 decreased from that of 15 months ago, whilst household debts rose 13% from last year average. 34
APPROACH October 2015
However there is positive growth even if the number are slightly under the prediction. Private investment expanded by 3.9 percent in the third quarter after plunging below the red line for four consecutive quarters. Only exports, tourism and private investment are likely to boost growth. However exports are suffering at this time of weak growth in Japan and the countries of the EU, and the slowdown in China. Thailand forecasts 29 million foreign tourists to visit the country this year. The number of tourists visiting Thailand fell by 6.6 per cent in 2014 from the previous year because of the kingdom’s political tensions and a drop in the value of the Russian rouble, but officials think the country should recover quickly in 2015. The Tourism Authority of Thailand is promoting Thai identity, especially among European and Latin American tourists, who represent the high-end and high-spending tourist groups for Thailand.

MONEY AFFAIRS
a Family Trust
Do you want your ex-partner to overturn your will?
By Jerry Mcmenamin financially well off then you have the opportunity if not the obligation to make some sort of amends to them. I’m well aware that money can never make up for parental neglect but even if you have been good to your adult children you have a great opportunity living here to plan your financial affairs the exact way you want them for when you’re gone. By forming a “Family Trust” you can avoid all family rows about who has access to your money after death. Remember a will can be challenged in court if one of your offspring or ex-wives decides that what she or he received was not enough and that your second family got too much then your will can be challenged and possibly overturned. A family trust cannot.
S
ome of us living in Paradise City may at times have regrets about how the children from our first marriage were perhaps neglected (I said some of us). Many working in the West found it difficult to give time to their children and then when they divorced their partner and moved here it was a double whammy for the offspring. I have friends who feel guilty not only about the emotional neglect but also the financial neglect. Some of them adhered to court orders to pay a monthly stipend to their ex-wives but could have done better. Some people feel resentful because their wives got so much in a divorce settlement. Even if you remarried and have young children here, the adult children back in Europe are yours and if you are
This is why if you’re living in Thailand it is vital to act before it’s too late. It is now possible to arrange for corporate trustees to handle and distribute your estate exactly to your wishes for a relatively small annual fee. You no longer have to use close friends or relatives for this task and I would emphasize that these professionals cannot be influenced. At the outset after putting your money into a bond, we would set up a family trust, you would write a “letter of wishes” and if inheritance tax was not an issue arrange for an income to be paid to you if needed. Don’t sit about thinking this is a good idea. Take action. Would you rather argue with me or your ex-wife? thailandexpatfinance@yahoo.com October 2015 APPROACH

THAI LEGAL
Family Law Thai Child Custody, Adoption & Guardianship
Family law is a really big sector of law because it covers such domains as adoption, divorce, matrimony law, unwed couples or civil unions, Thai child custody, legal separation, etc.
Child Custody
Adoption
Under Thai Law “custody” refers to the physical guardianship of the child.
The basic criteria for prospective adoptive parent(s) are:
Guardianship under Thai Law : A person who is not sui juris (the Latin term for being an “adult”) and has no parents or whose parents have been deprived of their parental powers, may be provided with a guardian during minority. The guardian could replace a parent and be granted authority to exercise parental powers. The best interests of the child is the main criteria for all decisions taken about children. If the parents can’t agree on the matters of education, custody or religion, the Thai court will base its decision on what it judges to be the best interests of the child. If it appears that the person exercising parental power of the guardian behaves himself or herself improperly or there is a change of circumstances after the appointment, the Court has the power to give an order appointing a new guardian by taking into consideration the happiness and interests of the child.
• Being legally qualified to adopt a child under the law of your home country • Applicant is over 25 years of age. Be at least 15 years older than the child to be adopted. • The adopted child is over 15 years of age it must consent the adoption • In case that the adopted child is minor, both biological parents must agree. • In case that either mother or father passes away, one has to consent. • In case that there is no consent person, the legal representative or prosecutor asks the court’s permission. The spouse must agree together.

Secret Source of GOOD HEALTH The
By Chris Woolams
What do you think is the largest organ in your body? Your liver? Your skin? Your spleen? Wrong on all counts. It’s your microbiome. You may well find yourself thinking ‘What’s that?’ In fact many Doctors reading this will not be much wiser.
Let me give you some pointers. The microbiome in your gut is made up of about 800 types of bacteria; half of which have been named. In total there are 90 trillion cells in your gut microbiome. Your own body only has 7 trillion, so they outnumber you 13:1. They have 75,000 genes; you have only 25,000, so their genetic material outnumbers yours 3:1. A study involving 200 top scientists and costing $178 million finished in the USA about two years ago. Since then, every week seems to turn up an important new finding. The EU funds ‘The International Human Microbiome Standards Project’, and the ‘My New Gut project, the latter looking at how modifiable lifestyle habits can improve or worsen your health. The sad fact is few doctors seem to know anything about the microbiome or its constituents. Indeed, talking to a Harvard Medical Professor, he told me that American medical experts are truly worried that their orthodox treatments have all been making matters worse.
Let me tell you what this ‘organ’ does. 1. When your child was aged 1-2 years you may have thought they had a lot of colds. They didn’t. They had touched
the dog and put their fingers in their mouth. The new bacteria in their gut prompted a reaction by the white immune cells causing a short-term temperature. The long-term effect was that your child just built an immunity against that bacteria and others like it. Your gut bacteria control 85 per cent of your immune system and immune memory.
2. At night time, the good guys (or commensal bacteria) consume up to a kilo of microbes and yeasts that entered your body during the day. They are your first line of defence.
3.
Contrary to medical mythology, eating five lots of fruit and vegetables a day is worthless, if you don’t have the right commensal bacteria in your gut. Certain of the ‘good guys’ MAKE various B vitamins, vitamin K, and short-chain esters, which are very anti-inflammatory, can prevent the formation of bad cholesterol in the body, and one (sodium butyrate) even kills cancer cells.
4. They bind with the fibrous foods you feed they to eliminate toxins, heavy metals, and chemicals from the body. Did I say ‘feed them’? Yes, that’s the deal. They do all this for you, if you take care of them. And that’s why you need to eat a whole food, fibrous diet – for example, they love pectin from apples, carrots, and inulin from chicory and onions. 42

Facts about HEARING It pays to get checked by a hearing care professional, if you feel you may have some difficulty hearing. A consultation doesn’t take long and is completely painless. You shouldn’t worry about having to wear a hearing aid. The days of the big ugly hearing aids are well and truly over. Today’s hearing solutions are so discreet that they are actually far less obvious than wearing glasses. Hearing loss means that you have a decreased sensitivity to sounds that are normally heard. The type and degree of hearing loss can vary, but in most cases hearing troubles can be addressed.
Typically, signs and symptoms of hearing loss may include: • Others seem to be mumbling, and it is a strain to hear when someone talks or whispers. • Frequently asking others to speak more slowly, clearly and loudly. • Trouble hearing the TV and radio at a volume others can. • Withdrawal from some social activities because it is difficult to hear and communicate.
Better hearing - with the help of specialists If the hearing of the people deteriorates, it is often a gradual process, the first one might probably not seriously. In many cases, people with hearing loss by third parties are made aware of their hearing with the result, to accept it, albeit reluctantly. The next logical step is going to the audiologist or hearing aid supplier to can recommend the necessary hearing aid by means of a hearing test. This in turn is adjusted by a specialist, the hearing healthcare professional. In Thailand however, it lacks of hearing care professionals that cover the technical field, for example: Customized Hearing Aids and Solutions with regard to sleep and noise, but also to ear problems in swimming pools or on the beach including water plugs. Dennis Goldbach, 36, manager of the company World Of Hearing in Hua Hin, is one such specialist. A native of
Magdeburg was / trained in Germany at the Institute LBS Academy for Hearing Aid Acoustics Lübeck to hearing care. Dennis chose Hua Hin as his home. In April 2015 he opened his shop, which is located in Hua Hin Medical Care Center of known Seniorenresidenz Lotuswell in Hin Lek Fai. Dennis offers a first, intensive counseling, secondly, the required technology leader, both of the highest quality. The good news is this: the new technologies are not only efficient, but also so small that they are barely noticeable from other often. Before the customers choose the perfect hearing, they get free services from hearing healthcare professional Goldbach. After thourough consultation, an imprint of the outer ear is made to then select a selection of suitable hearing aids and to make as part of otoplasty form fitting pieces. The models in turn test the customer over a period of at least eight days or over a longer period.
Dennis Goldach, assisted by his World of Hearing team, professional and complete benefits that are in high demand and certainly people with hearing outside of Hua Hin are avail. The Citroen 2 CV 1948 - 1990 This brilliant contraption had each wheel suspended on an arm with the springs and dampers running along the chassis rails on either side. It could roll at incredible angles but no wheel would ever leave the ground and the ride quality has never been surpassed in a car of its size. Apparently one of the original design criteria was the ability to ploughed field carrying a basket of eggs without a single egg breaking’
Mercedes S Class V12 1996 This car is amazing. It rides smoothly, has the power when it is needed, and it still has the looks after 15 years. It is built like a bank vault and still has all of the hallmarks of a true Mercedes Benz. This car has more saftey features than any other car on the market, it is also the first car to feature all LED lights inside and outside the vehicle.

The original 2003 Kalos was remarkable for one thing – its ride quality. The downside was engine torque pulling at the steered wheels of a car with only 77lb ft torque. The soft, roly poly suspension gave a good ride at the expense of handling. And that’s exactly why people liked it’
Five sensors monitor the front and the rear suspension, constantly assessing the road surface and the driver’s demands. They then optimise the car’s response via electronically controlled dampers. You can feel the wheels dropping into ruts yet at the same time keeping the car level’

Citroën C5 2015 Hydractive III suspension simply absorbs all that the roads can throw at it. The downside is very little steering feel and the impression that you are totally disconnected from the road (though many drivers will consider that a virtue)`
Ford Model T - Also known as the Tin Lizzy
The Model T, also known as the “Tin Lizzie,” changed the way Americans live, work and travel. For the first time car ownership became a reality for average American workers, not just the wealthy. More than 15 million Model Ts were built in Detroit and the automobile was also assembled at a Ford plant in Manchester, England, and at plants in continental Europe. However deficiencies, along with its homely appearance, less-than-comfortable ride at top speeds (44mph - 70 kmh), and incessant rattling, made the Model T the butt of much affectionate humour in innumerable jokes, songs, poems, and stories. However an original would set you back US$ 75,000. 46

It comes equipped with a 35kW two-cylinder Turbocharged Direct Injection engine, 27-horsepower electric motor, a seven-speed Dual-Shift Gearbox dual-clutch automatic transmission, and a lithium-ion battery. Presently VW will release ony 450 vehicles in Europe for road experience.
The safest cars in the world
The Volvo V40 Hatchback The Volvo V40 is the safest car you can currently buy, beating every other car ever tested by Euro NCAP. It got a 98% rating for adult occupant protection, scored 100% in the safety assist category and an innovative external pedestrian airbag helped it score a record 88% for pedestrian protection, which is a weak point for most cars. Its incredible score means it still tops the list.
The Landrover Discovery
Mercedes C- Class
Sport SUV
Saloon
The Land Rover Discovery Sport replaced the old Freelander and eclipsed its safety score. its highest score was for adult occupant protection. That 93% rating was helped by comprehensive protection from front and sideimpact crashes. It scored only marginally less for child protection – most cars do. An 82% score in the safety assist category was achieved thanks to a top-performing automatic emergency braking system.
The Mercedes C-Class carries plenty of state-of-the-art electronic equipment, so it’s as good at avoiding a crash in the first place as it is at protecting the occupants should the worst happen. Euro NCAP praised Mercedes’ PRESAFE system, which tightens the seatbelts and optimises the front seat positions to best protect the occupants. It’s a fundamentally strong car, too, scoring a 92% rating for adult occupant protection and 84% for child occupant protection.
Volkswagen Passat Saloon The current Volkswagen Passat comprehensively beat the already brilliant score achieved by the previous model – and there isn’t a single area where it doesn’t impress. Once again, adult occupants are well protected from front and side impacts, while the Passat’s headrests do a good job of reducing whiplash injuries. The car scores 87% for child protection, it lost a fraction of a point for a slightly high loading on a child’s neck. Aside from this, the VW is a safe way for kids to travel.
Kia Sorento SUV A 90% score for adult occupant protection is pretty outstanding and unsurprisingly the Kia Sorento excelled in every area. In comparison, the 83% child protection score doesn’t seem as good, but it’s still very impressive. Fitting the automatic emergency braking system (accessory) could have boosted the have put the Sorento higher up this list
Nissan X-Trai l SUV The second Nissan in the list is the seven-seat Nissan X-Trail SUV and its scores are strikingly similar to those achieved by the Qashqai. It scored 88% for adult occupant protection, and was rated impressively for its protection from a side impact. Although the X-Trail scored well for its electronic safety equipment, the lack of seatbelt reminder buzzers for the third row of seats counted against it slightly. October 2015 APPROACH

He added: “It’s important to go back to basics and remember why you are there and what you need to do. “Everybody has a choice to support a player that they want to support.” But after his victory over Swiss 17time Grand Slam champion Federer, Djokovic said: “ I can’t sit here and criticise the crowd. “On the contrary, I think it’s logical to expect that a great player and a champion like Roger has the majority of the support anywhere I play him. “He absolutely deserves to have the support he does because of all the years and success that he had and the way he carries himself on and off the court. No question about it.”

This has, in many ways, been a very reassuring year for Andy Murray. He won his first Masters Series title for over two years in Madrid in May, and added another in Montreal last month. And by reaching the Australian Open final, as well as the last four at Roland Garros and Wimbledon, Murray has re-established himself as one of the best three players in the world. He even beat Novak Djokovic - to end a run of eight consecutive defeats by the world number one. 54

Ladies American ladies golfing teams have been on the receiving end of a hat-trick of hammerings and another may be heading their way in Germany this week. These are the events that stick in the memory and Europe’s women defend the Solheim Cup, won 18-10 in Colorado in 2013, in the wake of a brilliant performance from the amateur men of Great Britain and Ireland. They completed a record 16½-9½ victory in the Walker Cup at Royal Lytham and St Annes on Sunday. And this, of course, followed Europe’s 16½-11½ triumph at Gleneagles in the Ryder Cup last year.
Of the four biennial transatlantic trophies only the Curtis Cup, played for by the amateur women of Great Britain and Ireland against the US, currently resides in American hands. The 24 players competing for Europe and the United States will grab the limelight to showcase women’s golf. Eighteen-year-old New Zealand sensation Lydia Ko is the youngest female major champion following her stunning victory in the Evian Championship on Sunday. Ko’s was the performance to provide a legacy because it is impossible not to see her dominating the women’s game for years to come.
Men Roars for Rory McIlroy are louder at a Ryder Cup than they are when he wins a major. That element of tribal conflict provides the edge. It didn’t mean that America’s leading amateur Maverick McNealy will struggle in the paid ranks. Four years ago GB and Ireland beat a team containing none other than Jordan Spieth. The fact that he was on a losing team did the Masters and US Open champion no harm at all. Indeed, the experience of team golf probably helped make him such a well-rounded figure, one who now finds himself at the vanguard of his sport. And that’s the real key to these matches. They are precious experiences that few who play or witness forget in a hurry.
And whether or not the Americans have been beaten again, there are sure to be a host of memories to treasure! October 2015 APPROACH

Costumes
Saturday October 31st, evolving from the ancient Celtic holiday of Samhain, modern Halloween has become less about literal ghosts and ghouls and more about costumes and candy. The Celts used the day to mark the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter, and also believed that this transition between the seasons was a bridge to the world of the dead. Over the millennia the holiday transitioned from a sombre pagan ritual to a day of merriment, costumes, parades and sweet treats for children and adults.
Here are some of the latest fashion designs for a Halloween costume :

KIDS & EDUCATION
Why
Home-schooling is on the
Rise
B
eyond the statistics, when someone talks about home schooling, usually two points come up. The first is whether the parent is qualified to teach their child, and the second and possibly biggest question to home schoolers everywhere is about socialization. Qualification is a big concern because opponents of home schooling believe that parents do not have the ability to teach children like a certified teacher does. It may be agreed upon that teachers have accreditation beyond what typical home-schooling parents do. However parents have the ability to teach a child any class that they would need, especially in the elementary years. Children have an ability in home-school that is not available to them in a traditional classroom! If a student has a question in class, it might not be the appropriate time to ask the question, or the teacher might be too busy to answer, however, in home-school if a child has a question, time can be taken to answer the question or look up the answer if it is unknown. Not everyone knows all of the answers, not even teachers, after all they are human as well. You would think the shaping of children’s minds, careers, and futures - can only be left to professionals. 62

It makes more sense to leave these important factors in a child’s life to a person that is with the child over the years after birth instead of with a person the child will only be under for a year, who does not have time to develop the child’s strengths and weaknesses and provide one-on-one time with the child!
Parents who aren’t confident about teaching higher level classes now have resources to supplement them such as online or correspondence courses, co-ops, and in some countries community college.
KIDS & EDUCATION home schoolers that get together on a regular basis for the children to play or participate in activities such as bowling, swimming or roller skating and lessons such as dance and karate.
Finally the biggest concern amongst those questioning or outright opposed to home-schooling is socialization. Socialization in this case is defined as: To make fit for companionship with others; make sociable, and to to convert or adapt to the needs of society. The first definition is not applicable to education but the second and third are worth looking into. People believe that kids need socialization with other children in order for them to be productive members of society. If you have a child who is home-schooled and is rarely in public, interacting with others, then that child will have a problem in years to come. That is just common sense. However, I do not believe socializing is fitting in with other children their own ages that have no moral compass, no sense of right or wrong and no respect for teachers and authority figures. When children are young and impressionable, it is hard for them to tell which children to steer clear of, often until it is too late.
In Conclusion: Home-schooling is a viable option to those who feel that their children aren’t learning enough in school, are taking in too many of the bad influences in school, are exposed or susceptible to too much violence in school. Home schooling has statistically proven over time that it is a method of education that succeeds with test scores surpassing those in public schools! Home school graduates have proven themselves in the college arena as well as beyond. The questions of qualification and socialization are often argued, but as you can see have no solid facts to stand on. As long as the test scores of those students whose parents are not certified teachers remains higher than public school children then no one can argue for higher qualification regulations. Even though the socialization of home schoolers does not fit in the standard box of a public classroom setting, it is proven to be just as effective if not better in providing quality (not quantity) socializing opportunities. The results speak for themselves in the long run. So, why home school? There are so many answers to this question—dissatisfaction with public schools, safety, the state of society today, lack of religion and morals—that would end up going on and on. However, some feelings are summed up in a popular phrase, “I’ve seen the village, and I don’t want it raising my child.”
Home schoolers in general know that their children need interaction with other children (of all age ranges not just specific to their own grade) and do everything possible to ensure their children receive this. This comes in the form of team sports, co-ops (groups of home schoolers who get together weekly to exchange classes to allow for socialization and taking advantage of the parents’ strong teaching points) and support groups in which Editor: The article by courtesy of Autumn Burke was edited and adjusted to make home-schooling more comprehensible and neutral as the article focussed on the USA. Countries as Germany do not allow home-schooling and consider children as “owned by the government”. Parents that insist on home-schooling in Germany are prosecuted and several families have immigrated to the USA where controlled home-schooling is allowed. October 2015 APPROACH
