LIVE AFTER RACING

Saturday 20 May

Official Raceday Programme | £3.50

Proudly sponsored by

Welcome to our “Live After Racing” Race evening featuring ‘Scouting for Girls’ in concert. A particularly warm welcome and thank you to our sponsors today, The Boulton Group, who once again are sponsoring the whole racecard this evening

We have seven races on the card today. ‘Lookaway’, trained by Neil King, returns to the course in the 6.05 hoping to repeat his success from here two weeks ago. Today’s feature race, the Class 2 Boulton Group Handicap Hurdle, has a competitive field of ten including highly rated horses ‘On The Blind Side’ and ‘Sporting John’.

It’s fantastic to be once again staging a live music concert here at Uttoxeter. This evening has been as popular as ever and we expect to see yet another bumper crowd here at the course. The team have been planning and working towards the event for months now and I would like to thank them for their dedication and hard work which has helped us put on the show.

Other exciting acts lined up this year include a 90s DJ set by new Radio 2 star, Vernon Kay, on Saturday 17th June and Classic Decks will be entertaining the crowd on our ever popular Ladies Day on Friday July the 28th.

Look out for goalkeeping legend ‘Big’ Dave Beasant who will be here today for a meet and greet opportunity whist helping raise funds for our charity partner Burton Albion Community Trust. This week marks 35 years since his FA cup triumph.

Dave is a former England international goalkeeper and has played for some of England’s largest domestic clubs, with long stints at Chelsea, Nottingham Forest and Wimbledon He played for Wimbledon for 9 years and earned himself an impressive 340 appearances. During his time at Wimbledon he won promotion from the Fourth Division, Third Division and Second Division in successive seasons and was the first ever goalkeeper to save a penalty in an FA Cup final match By saving the penalty it meant Wimbledon won 1-0 and were crowned FA Cup champions.

We have a quick turnaround this week for our next meeting (Sunday 28th May) which is our first family funday of the year There will be lots of entertainment for all of the family and with us finally having the first signs of Summer its sure to be a great day for all of the family. Thank you once again for visiting us at Uttoxeter Racecourse. I hope you all have an enjoyable evening and good luck!!

STAR RATINGS EXPLAINED

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

ëëëëë Selected to win the race

ëëëëê Good chance of being placed

ëëëêê By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims.

ëëêêê Unlikely to win but not totally without hope

ëêêêê Can be given little or no chance

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions

A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances) The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non handicap races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

LOOKAWAY doesn’t look like living up to his bumper promise over hurdles but he opened his account in ready fashion at this venue 2 weeks ago and should prove hard to beat under a penalty. Midnight Solider hasn’t been seen since winning his sole bumper for Christian Williams nearly 2 years ago but the booking of Harry Cobden suggests a good run is expected on hurdle debut.

RACE SUMMARY

While DO IT FOR THY SEN’s handful of appearances during the winter didn’t amount to much, this is the time of year that he tends to show his best. Indeed, all 3 of his previous wins under Rules (and his maiden point success) were gained during the month of May and he is very appealing off this reduced mark with conditions in his favour Forget You Not is second choice but Miltiades could also have a major say if backing up his soft-ground chase debut third at Stratford on this faster surface.

RACE SUMMARY

GETAMAN returned to action with a solid second in a handicap chase at Warwick where he pulled well clear of the rest and, if able to reproduce form akin to that back over hurdles off a 7lb lower mark, he will surely go close. Next on the list is Getaway Tom, who shaped as though dropping back to this trip would be in his favour when fifth at Exeter Governor Green, who did the job well at Bangor last month, and handicap-debutant Imperial Sun are others to consider
