WEDNESDAY’S MATCH
Canadian adversary FC Edmonton returns to the First Coast and is on a bit of hot streak. The Eddies are have managed to grind out some impressive results and remain in contention as the Fall Season wears on. The Armada FC has yet to top the Alberta based opponent this season and Mark Lowry and crew will be looking to take all three points and climb the table in what is sure to be a thrilling Fall Season showdown. It is Youth Soccer Night at Community First Park and the mid-week action is sure to see plenty of the area’s best youth soccer clubs in attendance. Of course the hump day tradition of $1 beers is still in effect at select spots at the stadium for Armada FC supporters 21 and older. The Matchday traditions are still in order as well as the flag will raise, the coin toss and the Kraken will surface just before the players take the pitch.

ARMADA SPOTLIGHT
MARK LOWRY INTERIM HEAD COACH
TAKING CHARGE
ark Lowry arrived in Jacksonville in September of 2015 with over 10 years’ of M experience as a coach, to join Eric Dade’s interim coaching staff. Since taking charge of the fleet as interim head coach in August, he has brought a new energy and vitality to a team looking for a lift. He has even conquered the Armada’s biggest demon, leading the team to its first road win in club history over Ottawa on Aug. 13 in only his first match in charge. Can this Birmingham, England, native right the ship and bring an anxious fan base what it so desires? Well, signs are looking up. “We are happy with the progression of the team,” said Lowry. “We feel that week-to-week the team is going in the right direction. We are trying to implement a very positional system of play, both offensively and defensively, so that the guys have to get used to their roles and responsibilities on the field.
It is the structure of the club from the owner, through the front office, and down to the team. When I say the team, I am talking about the first team, the U-23’s all the way down to the Academy. It is great when you have a structure like that in place in an area like Jacksonville. There is a fantastic community here with a rich soccer history from youth all the way to pro. Only good things can happen. I believe that every month, every week and every season we are getting the right people around us. We are bringing in quality, from players to office staff. When you have good people around you, the right stuff will happen. I see a bright future for this club, and I am happy to be a part of it. “
‘PEPP TALK’ WITH COLE PEPPER TONIGHT’S MATCH After just six matches at the helm, interim head coach Mark Lowry is putting his stamp on the Armada style of play. In back-to-back road matches, the Armada tallied five goals, including their first three-goal performance since last October. But it isn’t just the goals that are making Lowry’s case, it’s the way the goals are developing.
9.24 & 28.2016
ARMADA MATCHDAY
We tell them every day, ‘if the 11 falls asleep, it will not work.’ It is definitely a team effort here and requires that all of our players be on the same page. It is good that we are scoring goals and we are looking like we can score goals. That is all positive.
The Armada is one of the shorter teams in the NASL, but it is also one of the more skilled, so Lowry is demanding the ball be played at the feet of Jacksonville’s technically skilled attackers. Take the first goal in Puerto Rico as an example. Goalkeeper Sean Lewis rolled the ball to centerback Tyler Ruthven, who passed it along the ground to holding midfielder Kevan George, who took a dribble, then fed Nicklas Maripuu. Maripuu quickly sent it forward to attacking midfielder Alex Dixon at the halfway line, who sent a one-touch pass to winger Zach Steinberger, who wasted no time lobbing an accurate ball in the path of an overlapping right back Matt Bahner. Bahner needed only one leaping touch to cut it back to Charles Eloundou to finish for his fourth goal of the year. Eight players, quick passing and a beautiful goal.

That’s the kind of soccer Mark Lowry wants to see.
THE VISITORS
Win: 2-3 Miami FC 4/22 (A) Defeat: 2-3 Carolina RailHawks 4/9 (H) SPRING SEASON RESULTS
The Armada FC has faced the NASL newbies three times so far this season, once during preseason (3/19) and twice during regular season (5/4, 9/11). However, the Boys in Blue have yet to top their midwestern rivals and will be looking to get their first win against Rayo OKC Saturday on home turf. The Armada’s opponents currently sit at No. 6 (4W-4D-5L, 16 pts.) in the NASL Fall standings.
2016 SPRING SEASON STATS
Sitting at an impressive third spot with a record of 7W-4D2L in the Fall standings, Canadian side FC Edmonton has come a long way since its first visit to the Bold City last February and will meet the Armada FC for the second time this season. The Eddies, as they’re fondly known to their Canuck contingents, hail from Alberta and are the far most northern team in North American soccer. The club is led by longtime head coach and former Canadian national team member Colin Miller.

So far this season, the Armada FC has battled the Eddies only once. The first begining early during the Spring Season at Community First Park on May 4, resulting in a 1-0 loss for the Armada. The match was the first defeat to Edmonton in Armada history. Wednesday’s match will be the second of three meetings this year. The Armada head north of the border on Oct. 23 for the final meeting of the year against the Eddies.

BIGGEST
Rayo OKC, owned by La Liga side Rayo Vallecano de Madrid, is a little over halfway done with their inaugural season in the North American Soccer League. Led by Gerard Nus, replacing Alen Marcina at the beginning of August, the Oklahoma-based club finished the spring season in the eighth place (3W-3D-4L, 12pts.) among the, at that time, 11 teams.
