ARMADA MATCHDAY

Tonight the Armada FC battle the Spring Season Champions Indy Eleven at Community First Park in the second annual Breast Cancer Awareness Night presented by WeGotSoccer. To support the fight against breast cancer, WeGotSoccer has created a special pink “Cure Ball” which fans were able to purchase entering them into the “Target Shot” contest to win a prize pack valued at $5,000.

2

Tonight at halftime, all of these lucky contestants will have the opportunity to kick the closest shot to the target win the prize pack! 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Non-Profit of the Match, American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, and all Armada supporters attending the match were encouraged to wear pink to support the fight against the deadly disease.

TIME FOR SOME PAYBACK

In the last meeting between the two sides Indy toppled the Armada in a 5-2 dredging in Indianapolis. The Armada will certainly be looking for a bit of pay back against Eleven in front of a home crowd in the Armada’s first meeting with newly appointed head coach Mark Lowry at the helm.

ARMADA SPOTLIGHT

DANNY BARROW #20 FORWARD

Danny Barrow, a speedy left footed forward and former Wales U-17 international came up through the ranks in his homeland of England playing on West Bromwich Albion’s U-18 team. Barrow’s quick feet and skillful attacking prowess have surprised many and made him one of the fan favorites around Community First Park. Is this budding star what Armada needs to carry them into the future? How has your first season been playing the NASL? “It has been very physically demanding for me. The players here in America are very physical, compared to back home. In England, it is much more of a technical game. Here, the Americans are much faster, jump higher and run for longer. It is harder to play against, but I have grown a lot as a player here. The more minutes that I get, the more I am learning. Don’t get me wrong, there are a bunch of technical players in this league. You can’t under-estimate it at all. It is very demanding, but I have had a lot of fun. I enjoy playing with everyone here. Nine times out of ten I am going to be the smallest guy on the field. It’s not a bad thing, because when I get the ball they don’t think that I am going to do what I do. There is an element of surprise that benefits me.”

10.12.2016

ARMADA MATCHDAY

You have grown on the Armada Fans a lot. Does that motivate you?

4

“It is awesome, but it is is hard because I feel like I haven’t given them back to them yet. I get Tweets, Facebook and Instagram posts all the time. This group of fans is more than a player could ask for. They are massive support when we play here and on the road. I am going to keep working just to do what I do best; create chances and score goals. If I am here next season, I will do the same and hopefully build on everything that I have done so far. I just want to end this season on a high note and start next season high as well.”

‘PEPP TALK’ WITH COLE PEPPER ARMADA’S DIRECTION NOW CLEAR

With Mark Lowry’s hand on the wheel, the Armada are clearly heading in the right direction. Since he took over as the interim head coach, Lowry has guided the Armada to two wins and five draws while losing just two. That’s eleven points from nine matches. If the Armada had done that all year, they would be three points from the final spot in the NASL Championship semi-finals. What has been the secret? Really, it’s no secret. Lowry is a detail oriented coach with a great passion for the game. The players like and respect him and he has done a terrific job of communicating with the team (not always as easy a job as it would seem). When Lowry tells the players what he wants from them, they get it. When he took over as interim head coach, I asked Lowry how he would gauge success. He told me that he wanted his team to be competitive in every game. So far, that has happened. And more than that, the identity of the team has become clearer. Under Lowry, the Armada are an organized team at the back that will constantly probe for openings on the attack. It’s a controlled approach that fits the Englishman’s personality. It has also proved to produce the most success that the club has enjoyed since the first two months of its existence.

The Armada’s Hoosier state rivals return to Community First Park tonight for the second time this season and the fourth all time. The Eleven was formed in early 2013 in large part to grassroots efforts from an already dedicated group of Indiana soccer fans named the Brickyard Battalion. Later that year, it was revealed that Indiana’s newest sports team would wear the colors red, white and blue. Future fans also found out the name of the team during a ceremony held at Indianapolis’ Soldiers and Sailors monument. The name was chosen as tribute to the 11th Indiana Volunteer Infantry Regiment that served in the Union Army during the Civil War.

A Coaching Change In his first season as head coach of the Eleven, Tim Hankinson has led the team to some impressive results. Hankinson led the team to the 2016 Spring Season title automatically securing the club’s first ever postseason appearance. Hankinson’s experience comes from over 30 years of coaching at a variety of league levels. He is an alumnus of the University of South Carolina, where he played collegiate soccer.

The Indy Crest The crest used to depict Indy Eleven’s brand has significant meaning behind it. Along with paying homage to the state’s part in the Civil War, the “eleven” part of their name also gives a nod to the amount of men that step out onto the pitch for a match. The checkerboard background pays tribute to Indiana’s auto-racing culture and to the supporters’ group that started it all; the Brickyard Battalion.
