Chaim Rosarie
ARMADA FC SIGN ARMADA FC SIGNS CANADIAN PRODIGY Early this month, the Jacksonville Armada FC announced the signing of 16-year-old Canadian forward Chaim Roserie. The prodigy from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, has spent his youth career playing between the Mississauga Falcons and West Toronto Cobras, both considered to be some of Canada’s most elite clubs. He also trained at the AC Milan Training Camp in 2008 and 2009. Roserie was named Most Valuable Player of his school’s team, St. Joan of Arc Secondary School, in 2010 and 2011. “Chaim Roserie is a tremendous young prospect for our club,” said Armada FC general manager Dario Sala. “He has a great amount of potential, and we look forward to seeing him develop and working to become a fixture in our lineup in the future.” At 16 years, seven months and 21 days, Roserie is the second5.9.2015 Match day
youngest player to sign with an NASL club in the modern era. FC Edmonton midfielder Hanson Boakai holds the record at 16 years, three months and 23 days, signing with the Eddies on Feb. 20, 2013.
“In the next few years I am hoping to get a starting position in the line-up, see some field time and help my team get a championship.” “Honestly, it feels great to be part of the team, said Roserie. “I have been working my butt off all season. It is just such a great experience, because I have a lot to develop and there is a long road ahead of me. In the next few years I am hoping to get a starting position in the line-up, see some field time and help my team get a championship. Roserie, who was invited to try out and has been training with the team since last August, will not be eligible to play in official matches for the Armada FC until clearance is received from FIFA due to the fact that Roserie is a minor. He will, however, continue to train with the team and is able to compete in friendlies. “This year I can push myself hardest in my training and show the coaches that I have the potential to be out there playing.”

COACHES NOTES
Guillermo Hoyos & José Luis Villarreal
We are very impressed by this team’s progression. As coaches we have to find the right players for the right job. Last Saturday, we feel like we did just that. Our adjustments to the formation have clearly made an impact. Marcos Flores did an incredible job of holding the midfield and feeding our forwards, who also played extremely strong. Jemal Johnson, Keita and most impressively Pascal Millien made a powerful presence in Saturday’s match. These players deserve a hand for their performances. Bringing Akeil Barret in at just the right moment to create that game winning opportunity was fantastic. Most impressively, this team played the entire 90 minutes. These players have really put their all in to come out with the result that we got. It was an incredible evening for everyone. Moving forward, tonight we take on a team that has followed a similar path that we have. We have studied Indy Eleven and they have definitely studied us. This club struggled to find their chemistry last season, but a new year brings new energy and we can see that in their performance this season. Indy Eleven will be bringing a very energetic pace into tonight’s match. We will be expecting a lot of pressure on our midfield from their forwards, Wojciech Wojcik, Brian Brown and Charlie Rugg. The key to slowing down this possession is, as we always say, possession. The more we maintain ball control the less opportunities our opponents will have. We believe in a very common-sense approach to our play. We appreciate the support we have been getting from you. It is so powerful to see the stadium full when we come out to play. We will continue to call for your support and cannot wait to hear all of you on every matchday. Thank you from the entire coaching staff! 17

‘Pepp Talk’
with Cole Pepper Last week, the Armada’s spring season narrative was very much in doubt. After losing back-to-back road matches, Jacksonville sat in ninth place in the North American Soccer League table. Oh, what a difference a win makes. After a thrilling 2-1 victory, powered by Kieta’s game-winner in stoppage time, the Armada find themselves in a terrific position. Coming into this weekend’s schedule, the Armada have won six points in four matches. No team who has played four matches has as many points. And here’s where it gets interesting. If the Armada beat Indy Eleven, there is a possibility that the expansion team would sit as high as second in the table. Not a bad two-week turnaround. The key here is winning at home. It’s tough to win on the road in soccer and the NASL is no exception. That means it’s imperative for the Armada to hold serve at home. Then, find a way to win on the road. That’s no easy task. Only five times have road teams won matches this year. The New York Cosmos, who enter this weekend’s matches atop the table with 11 points, did it on opening weekend. Right now, that’s the difference between the Armada and the Cosmos: New York stole three points on the road, while the Armada had a chance to win at Fort Lauderdale and Tampa, only to come away with no points. Remember, the Armada and the Cosmos play the final week of the Spring Season in New York. It’s not difficult to envision a scenario where that match is a duel for the Spring Season championship. But before we get that far in the story, the Armada must continue to attack (they lead the league in goals scored) and must be sure to tighten up the back line. They don’t have to be the best defensive side in the league, but they are this close from being unbeaten this season. Close the gap and we could be in for quite a ride in the first year of the Armada.

La Buena vida with Bochy Hoyos
Argentinian Midfielder Bochy Hoyos has already made an impression on Armada FC’s starting eleven this season. Hoyos, the son of co-head coach Guillermo Hoyos, brings a stylish, intelligent and ferocious approach to handling the ball. Bochy‘s touch can leave a defender in the dust and outwit any goalkeeper one-on-one, as he has already proven with a goal and assist early in this NASL spring season. This seasoned international attacker tells how the worst situation, came sometimes become the best experience.
Q: You were born into soccer. Did you know you were always going to be a footballer or think of doing something else? I always thought that I was going to make it in soccer and become a professional. Until I reached my objective, I wasn’t going to stop for anything. Perhaps my goal was not to be the best footballer ever, but I did want to be able to play in some of the best clubs in the world. Q: You have a superb touch on the ball. Is that something young players are taught or does it just come naturally to a player? Obviously, a good player is born with a little bit of talent, but I perfected my touch through lots of practice and lots of dedication when I was young. That kind of work will take you to another level. I practiced a bit with my father, but mostly alone or with my friends when I was young.
“I had the opportunity to play on the Barcelona “B” team and share the locker room with Lionel Messi, which was really an amazing experience and a great honor to have been able to do. ” Q: Who inspires you? I look up a lot to the current Barcelona stars, Iniesta, Xavi, etc. I have studied their play, tried to mimic what they do out on the field and apply it to my own game. Q: How did playing at Barcelona improve your game? I had the opportunity to play on the Barcelona “B” team and share the locker room with Lionel Messi, which was really an amazing experience and a great honor to have been able to do. Just being in a place like Barcelona and getting the exposure living culture is very different from here. It takes you to a place that you can always look back on. Of course it really helped me understand the game better. Playing there you see stuff that you don’t see in other teams by playing their style. Q: Where is your favorite place to play? Honestly, I can’t tell you the best place I have ever lived, but I can tell you the how the worst place I have ever played became the best. I was playing in the middle of the Amazon jungle for Unión Comercio, a team in the Primera Division (first division) in Peru. This place was in the middle of the jungle, and the people there were very humble. Looking back at that year spent there, yes, I have lived many beautiful cities, with lots of amenities, but having less made me appreciate everything more. 5.9.2015 Match day
QUICK FACTS: BOCHY HOYOS I would have to take a Mototaxi, which is basically a three wheeled scooter fitted with a cart, to practice. I had to buy ham and cheese that would go bad before I could even eat them. The newspaper that was supposed to come on Monday would come on Wednesdays. There was no Wi-Fi, no phones and the conditions were just very difficult. However, because of those conditions, it really brought the team together. We spent a lot of time together and got to know more about each other. It just humbled everyone because of the culture there. For the fans to get a picture or shake a hand of a professional footballer, it is probably one of the best things that ever happened to those people. It was very rewarding for the players and especially myself as well. That year we qualified for the Copa Sudamericana, which is similar to the Europa league in South America. It was a huge achievement for such a small team. The coach wanted me to play for the Peruvian National team until he realized I was Argentinian. It’s really how humble they are. Everyone was treated like a local. Q: Your father has a very specific philosophy to his coaching style. Where do you think he developed this? My father was born in the streets. He really had to fight for everything. He had to fight for his food, to be in a good place and to sleep in a good place. That perseverance and will to not stop fighting got him to get where he is now, which is different to the way that I was brought up. So I can appreciate his style. He really gave me opportunities.
Angel Guillermo Hoyos Bubbico, known to his friends simply as Bochy, is an Argentine attacking midfielder with a wealth of international experience. Hoyos resume includes an arsenal of clubs from Europe and South America, Including Spainsh sides Celta de Vigo “B” and Barcelona “B” Argentinas Talleres de Córdoba, and Greek side Panserraikos.
FUN FACTS:
Q: What is your favorite TV show? It is probably El Chavo del Ocho. It’s a Mexican TV show that has been seen by millions of people around the world. There is another one in Argentina called Showmatch by Marcelo Tinelli. Lots of laughs. Q: What would you perform if you if you made it on one of these shows? Nothing. I don’t think I am funny enough. People wouldn’t laugh. I would probably just stay home and watch. Stick to what I am good at, soccer. I can get people to smile by playing soccer; probably not by being silly and telling jokes. Maybe if I did both at the same time, it could work?

INDY ELEVEN In April 2013, Indy Eleven, became the ninth team to enter the North American Soccer League, exactly 152 years to the day of the initial enlistment of the 11th Indiana Regiment during the Civil War, for which the team bares its name. The club is the brainchild of its president and general manager Peter Wilt, who established Major League Soccer’s Chicago Fire in the late 1990s, and the Indy Pro Soccer movement’s efforts to bring a team to Indiana. The club’s owner, Ersal Ozdemir, CEO of Keystone Group, LLC, appointed former Queens Park Ranger and US international Juergen Sommer as the first head coach and director of soccer operations and lead the efforts in building the team from the ground up. The team plays their games at Indiana University-Purdue University’s Michael A. Carroll Stadium in Indianapolis. The team made its NASL regular-season debut in April 2014 against the Carolina RailHawks in a 1-1 draw. Despite a lackluster inaugural season that saw the team finish ninth place overall in 2014, Indy Eleven managed to average the highest attendance in the league.
SO FAR THIS SPRING Indy Eleven have made a strong start to their sophomore season with a four-match undefeated streak. Indy defeated defending champion San Antonio and drawn with New York, Carolina and Atlanta. With the departure of the club’s first signed player, goalkeeper Kristian Nicht, Indy Eleven will be looking for solid performances from young goalkeeping duo, Keith Cardona and Jon Dawson, as they progress into the year. The team has not yet allowed more than one goal in their performances so far and continued steady defending from Honduran Erick Norales could see the streak continue.

MEET SQUID VICIOUS the Armada FC Kraken
Saturday night’s Armada FC match was full of excitement and festivities that was capped off by a stoppage time game-winner from Alhassane Keita. But perhaps the most Earth-shattering news of the night was the unveiling of The Kraken’s new name just before kickoff. In a contest with names submitted and voted on by the fans, the soccer-supporting sea creature was bestowed the name Squid Vicious. Making its debut at the Armada FC’s preseason match against the Fort Lauderdale Strikers Feb. 28 at Community First Park, Squid Vicious has been a fixture at the club’s home matches ever since and has become adored by fans and feared by visiting teams. “I want to thank our tremendous supporters for giving the sea creature formerly known as The Kraken such a great name,” said Armada FC President Steve Livingstone. “We were terrified of it at first, but through time we have learned it is the team’s top supporter and brings an energy no other mascot can match. Squid Vicious is a very fitting name.”

BOB’S BOOTROOM with Bob Veal
Last Saturday we truly did have a night for the supporters, a nail biting finish with fans glued to their seats to the final whistle. At the start of the season the coaches and soccer staff said “we will produce an attacking side that builds plays from the back”. Against the “San Antonio Scorpions” we did just that, similar to the game against Tampa Bay Rowdies the week prior. Playing from the back and creating chances by the midfield playing high, unlike the previous week we did manage to put away the winning goal in the last minute of time added on. The game of soccer at any level is about capitalizing on your chances, some weeks you will get the break of the ball in your favor and others that little bit of luck abandons you. However, the more chances you create the more luck you create, and Armada are a team that will create many chances. Against Tampa Bay Rowdies we had 22 shots and this week against San Antonia” we had 14 shots. Both these teams are of a physical disposition and the “Armada” have been forced to match that physical component, and that, in some way explains the number of yellow cards Armada collects each week. Today we face an Indy Eleven with one win and three draws, on the same point’s level as The Armada, and with the New York Cosmos and Atlanta Silverbacks, Indy Eleven are the only teams not to have lost this season. But they come to Community First Park and play today the team with the highest goal count (eight) than any other team this season, which makes for a tough but highly entertaining match-up. Three points today will give Armada nine points and a game behind the leaders, we can do it, so please shout loud and enjoy this beautiful game of soccer. Catch Bob Veal on the Armada Radio Show Fridays on Sports Radio 930 at 3 p.m. and on Bob’s Bootroom during Armada Kickoff at 11 p.m. on CW17. 63
