The ‘apple’ or ‘inverted pyramid’ body shape means you have wide shoulders and narrow hips, so here’s how to make the best of both assets

than your hips and rear. Some females with this shape also have an ample bosom, while for others the width is exclusively from the shoulders or just narrow hips. However much some women may bemoan a small rear or straight hips, this shape is incredibly versatile. You can make your hips seem more prominent and balance your figure by wearing hip-hugging jeans and pants. Vertical stripes are also wonderful for this, with the added benefit of making your legs look longer – like those the model wears on the opposite page. Pockets in your bottomwear and jackets – like the model at left – can add the illusion of width around the hips as well. Flared pant legs or balloon pants are perfect for your body shape too. This effect can also be achieved by wearing chunky bracelets and bangles, and using handbags rather than shoulder bags. For shirts and tops, it depends on whether you want to hide your shoulders or flaunt them. Off-the-shoulder tops are a beautiful way to show them off, as there is enough coverage that your shape remains balanced. Sleeveless dresses with flared skirts and a V-neck are equally ideal for this purpose, while you’ll probably want to stay away from spaghetti straps.
