Hindi po biro yon, nasuka talaga ako, that’s how hard it was.” May gusto ba siyang patunayan kung bakit tinanggap niya at ginawa ang Buy Bust? “Gusto kong patunayan sa pelikulang ito na kaya ng female lead na gumawa ng action film. Yan ang gusto kong patunayan because all action films, puro mga lalaki ang bida. “So, gusto kong patunayan dito na kaya din naming mga babae na gumawa ng aksyon na pelikula. So, sana this opens doors for a lot of actresses out there, na alam mo yon…” sambit niya. Natawa naman at parang nahiya si Anne nang tanungin siya kung ano ang feeling niya sa tag bilang “action queen.” “Hindi pa naman siguro. Having lied to his family about working in the U.S., Joko eventually revealed to Zoey - who values truth more than anything else in the world - why he had to fool his family into believing something that isn’t true. Co-starring Richard Gutierrez, Dingdong Dantes, Bela Padilla, Jacklyn Jose, trending love teams like MayWard (Maymay Entrata and Edward Barber), DonKiss (Donny Pangilinan and Kisses Delavin), and LoiNie (Loisa Andalio and Ronnie Alonte), the movie will start shooting on July 17 and will be directed by Barry Gonzales. GOD’S GIFT OF SLEEP

od created man and woman primarily to work, rest, and worship. God’s 4th Commandment reminds us to work for six days and to rest on the seventh day (Ex. 20:8-12). Rest is between work and worship. Rest serves as the janus link between the first three commandments and the last six commandments. Rest is the fulcrum that balances love of God and love of neighbors. Needless to say, humanity must do excellent work but not to become workaholics. Somehow, our culture hypes us to buy things we don’t need with money we don’t have. We “burn the candle on both ends” doing multiple jobs to keep up with our bills or with the Joneses. Then we die early. Obviously, sleep is a vital part of rest. Scientific studies remain incomplete on this mysterious phenomenon called sleep. What is clear though is the findings that sleep impact health, safety, ecology and longevity of life. Investigators claim that sleep deprivation contributed to the nuclear ac-

cident at the Three Mile Island (1979), the meltdown at Chernobyl (1986), the explosion of the space shuttle Challenger, and the grounding of the oil tanker Exxon Valdez. The Institute of Medicine reports that between 50,000 to 100,000 deaths were preventable medical errors mainly due to insufficient sleep. A National Sleep Foundation reports that 60% of adult drivers, about 168 million people, drive while feeling drowsy and more than 103 million have actually fallen asleep each year. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that 100,000 police-reported crashes are the direct result of driver fatigue. We are told that 20% of motor vehicle crashes are due to drowsy driving resulting in around 500,000 injuries and 8,000 deaths a year. Chronic sleep deprivation shortterm effects include effect on judgment mood, irritability, ability to learn and retain information, increase risk of serious accidents and injury. The long term effects include obesity, diabetes, cardio vascular disease, pre- mature aging, dis-

ease ranging from cold to cancer. Sleep helps organism to conserve and replenish energy, repair and rejuvenate tissues, rebuild and restore cells, preserve the immune system, restore muscle growth and help in protein synthesis. It has a rejuvenating function specific to cognition and reorganizes information in our brain. -Of course, it is another thing to sleep during church service. Perhaps three things can be done: 1) charge the sleeper lodging fee, 2) require that they don’t snore so as not to wake the others, and 3) wake the pastor up for putting them to sleep. Clearly, we worship best when we are rested. When you come to worship God, bring your mind also The creation account begins with “evening and morning.” The Jewish people have learned this time reckoning in their Sabbath. It begins sunset of Friday and ends when three stars appear the evening of Saturday. If we apply this to our situation, we should get as much rest on Saturday night to prepare for worship on Sunday morning. When God rested on the 7th day, He continues His work of providence and thru nature. David says, “The Lord … will watch over your life … now and forever” (Ps. 121:7,8). It is wrong to believe that the work I do when I am awake is more important that the work God does when I am asleep. In fact, God does a bet-

ter job when I am asleep than when I am awake. God says, “In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat – for he grants sleep to those he loves” (Ps. 127:2). Let us receive God’s gift of sleep gratefully and gladly then praise and worship Him.
