At least we’re back on primetime very, very soon,” she said during the PayMaya BalikBayad commercial launch held last February 5 in Mandaluyong City. With the country dealing with the corona virus scare, the celebrity couple admitted they are taking measures to keep themselves safe and healthy. “Wala eh. Nagpa-panic din kami (laughs). Joke lang. Unang una, it’s not a joke. Magdasal tayo at maging cautious, yun lang,” DJ said. With both their social media accounts reaching millions of followers, Kath said she hopes Pinoys will also be more responsible with their behavior online. “Ako more of sa kabataan naman since tayo nasa social media, siguro gamitin natin yun to spread the news na very accurate. So think before you post. Basically tayong mga millennials yun yung simpleng magagawa natin. And good hygiene.

Statement of ABS-CBN on OSG’s quo warranto petition: ‘We did not violate the law’
T
he Office of the Solicitor General’s filing of a quo warranto case against ABS-CBN on alleged violations of its franchise appears to be an effort to shut down ABS-CBN to the serious prejudice of millions of Filipinos who rely on the network for news, entertainment and public service. These allegations cited by the Office of the Solicitor General in his press statement are without merit. ABS-CBN complies with all pertinent laws governing its franchise and has secured all necessary government and regulatory approvals for its business operations. (1) All our broadcast offerings, including KBO, have received the necessary government and regulatory approvals and are not prohibited by our franchise. (2) ABS-CBN Holdings’ Philippine Deposit Receipts or PDRs were evaluated and approved by the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Philippine

The capital we have raised from the PDRs has enabled us to provide services to nearly 90 percent of the Philippines and to our OFW’s all over the world. Our work with ABS-CBN Convergence supports the government policy of finding ways to bring down the cost of internet access. The Senate, the House of Representatives, and the Executive Branch have assured the public that our franchise will be allowed to go through the proper renewal process in a fair manner. To that end, the filing of the quo warranto case is ill-timed given that Congress has already resumed its session. We remain committed to our mission to serve the Filipino people especially at this time when millions of Filipinos rely on our services in delivering information such as the 2019 NCoV ARD, the developments in the Middle East, and updates on Taal Volcano situation as they relate to our countrymen. Liza Soberano, Gerald Anderson, Vhong Navarro, Jolina Magdangal, Amy Perez, Karla Estrada, John Prats, Bianca Gonzalez, and JM de Guzman similarly voiced out their support for ABS-CBN through social media posts.

eauty queen Catriona Gray made it to Lifestyle Asia’s latest Agents of Change list, which was released on Sunday. For this year, the society magazine recognized six influential figures “in different fields who continue to inspire many for their remarkable work as active agents of change as present.” The 26-year-old Filipina-Australian was recognized for her efforts in reaching out to different communities and for remaining committed to her multiple advocacies even after her stint as the Miss Universe ended in 2019. “Beyond the crown, the glamorous gowns, and the iconic lava walk, the Miss Universe of 2018 continues to inspire and reach out to different communities. While she has passed on the crown, Catriona remains committed to her advocacies,” said the magazine of Catriona. “She helps out in Love Yourself Philippines and volunteers as an assistant teacher in Young Focus. The non-government organization educates underprivileged youth from the Smokey Mountains of Tondo, Manila, which has really opened the eyes of our queen to a reality of life beyond that of her own. Through her advocacies, she believes it can empower people and even encourage them to do the same to others. While the actor’s TV and film projects have become successful because of the support of JaDine fans, Tonette Jadaone believes the new teleserye would appeal to viewers because of its story. “Wala. So my loyalty is always to the story and not ‘yung mga nakapalibot sa paggawa ng pelikula,” she said. According to the the “Never Not Love You” director, she conceived the germ or premise of the film more than three years ago. “Personally, it’s a story I’ve always wanted to do kasi 2016-2017 ko pa siya kuwento. So it’s supposed to be a movie. Pinitch ko siya sa iba’t-ibang producers. Parang nakalimutan ko na siya, ang dami ko nang nagawang pelikula after that,” she revealed. Teasing fans what to expect from the 13-episode series, she said: “Basta ‘pag nilabas na namin ang kuwento, mas magegets kung bakit kailangan foreigner and Korean. Ruffa Gutierrez: ‘Mabuti na ‘yung hindi tayo tumatanda ng paurong’
A
t 45 years old, Ruffa Gutierrez still glows like the beauty queen she is. “When I joined Binibining Pilipinas in 1993, hindi pa uso ang veneers noon. Wala pang Botox. It’s all natural. It’s what I want to impart to my daughters: Be natural. Love yourself. Because each person’s unique, di ba? What’s important is your confidence, your personality. As long as you have nice skin and you’re kind to others, ‘yung ‘yung gusto kong i-impart.” For the most part, Ruffa credits her good skin to genetics. “I actually want to thank my mom and my dad for my genes. My dad’s already 77 years old, but he’s still acting and looks very young. My mom, she’s so scared and just uses home care. Nasanay na din ako sa ganoon. It’s more about just maintaining. Maintenance is always good. Altering? I’m not into it.” She has noticed that the more you alter your looks, the older you appear. She’s actually not a fan of aggressive treatments. “I’m conservative when it comes to touching my face and my body. My mom would be the first to say, ‘Naku, ‘wag mong galawin ‘yung mukha mo!’ You’ve known me since I was 13. Can you just imagine kung biglang magiba ‘yung face ko? Tsaka parang wala namang nagreklamo. Hindi naman ako nahirapan kumuha ng mga boys, projects. I think I’m fine. Bakit ko pa babaguhin?” It was just recently that Ruffa signed on as an endorser for Cathy Valencia’s Skin Clinic. “I know I already have nice skin since birth, but as you get older and you go under the sun, siyempre nagkakaroon na tayo ng mga sunspots. I want to prevent myself from looking older than I am. I just want to feel fresh and look fresh. Cathy Valencia takes care of my skin, my slimming, so that I will age gracefully. “I used to lie about my age,” admits Ruffa. “I used to say I stopped counting at 25. E ngayon ang Google, nandiyan na. Si Lorin at si Venice, dalaga na. Nakakahiya naman kung sabihin kong 30 pa din ako. Kailan ako nanganak?” Lorin and Venice are now 16 and 15 years old, respectively, and Ruffa

wants to make sure that their skin is spared the hormonal changes that adolescence typically brings. “They don’t need much; they just need facials, just to maintain their teenage youthful look.” Ruffa said that it’s never too early to practice good skin care and maintenance. “May mga kaibigan ako who think that you only go to the dermatologist when you’re in your 30s and 40s — no! I had my first facial when I was 13. Talagang maalaga ako at masipag ako pumunta para magpa-facial. You have to take care your skin. Laging maglagay ng sunblock. As a matter of fact, I started putting sunblock late, when I was already in my 20s. Kailangan i-train na natin ang mga teenagers na as early as now, you have to take care of your skin.” Now, Ruffa is looking forward to aging gracefully. “I don’t fear aging. I’m not scared to grow old, dahil lahat naman tayo tatanda,” she said. According to her, it is more of a problem when one cannot accept this fact. “Para sa akin, mabuti na ‘yung hindi tayo tumatanda ng paurong. Kung medyo in denial tayo, ‘yun ang mahirap, na you act like a teenager when you’re not.”

im Chiu is set to star in the upcoming teleserye Love Thy Woman on ABS-CBN. The show revolves around the story of a modern Chinese family. Kim plays the character of Jia Wong, who belongs to the second family of Adam Wong (Christopher de Leon). The actress added that it was challenging to play the character since in real life, she belongs to the first family of her father. “Ako ‘yung una so it’s kind of challenging for me to play the second family kasi sila ‘yung parang hindi masyadong pinapansin, pero pinapansin sila ng papa ko,” she added. The actress shared that what is portrayed in Love Thy Woman happens in real life among modern Chinese families. “Ito talaga ‘yung nangyayari sa pamilya ng totoong Chinese family. Kaya nga pagtinitingnan ko, ‘pag umaarte kami, shocks, kawawa rin pala ‘yung anak ng papa ko. Kasi ‘pag first family ikaw ‘yung pinakamatapang, so may character plays as a second family. Now I understand what they are feeling ‘yung mga kapatid ko sa labas,” Kim said. The media asked Kim about how her father having an extended family had an impact on her when she was still young. The actress relayed, “Growing up lagi ako nagwowonder nasaan ‘yung papa ko? Kasi lagi siyang nawawala... Habang lumalaki okay na ako na wala akong father figure pero kapag may special event nandiyan siya. Kunwari aawardan ako, honor kasi ako nong elementary tapos parang sinong pupunta? Sinong aakyat? Tapos magugulat na lang ako, ah si papa pala, dumating pala siya. So iyon ‘yung naging motivation ko na mag-aral ng mabuti para kung meron akong award pupunta siya.”

Is your resume presented in point form or does it contain long paragraphs that are tedious and confusing to read? 7. Is your resume one or two pages? Or is the length in between, meaning that it is one & one-half or one & one-third or one & one-fourth in length, and thus create the impression of being hanging in format & incomplete in content? It could very well be that your resume is longer, consisting of 3, 4, 5 or more pages. What I know is that you can go beyond the 2-page rule if you are looking for a position in the academe, e.g., university professor, or in health care, e.g., medical specialist.

Is your Resume a Good Read?
Are you a Questioning Job Hunter Asking the What, Where, When, Why and How of Job Search?
F
or some newcomers, their state of mind, upon landing in Canada, is in the imperative sense. I want a job in my field soon! Right away! Now! Why this is so is understandable. There are plenty of financial, temporal, familial and personal reasons to find something ASAP. For other newcomer job seekers, however, they are in an interrogative mode. The reason for the ‘questioning’ is because these people want to plan out their whole career path, ‘ab initio’, including how to do their job search properly. Some have heard that finding a job in Canada is a hard task and thus, cannot be done haphazardly. Others want to ‘play it safe’; “I want to practice my true career, so I’ll do my job search slow but sure.” Still others may be in a fortunate situation where they are able to relax until they find the real thing because there is a spouse or a relative supporting them, financially and otherwise. Whatever situation you find yourself in though, it is always useful to look at the ‘what’, ‘where’, ‘when’, ‘why’ and ‘how’ of looking for work. Just like anything important in life, planning is important for a more successful job search. The ‘what’ questions can include the following: What is my objective now? What is my short-term goal? What is my medium-term goal? What is my long-term goal? Shall I look for a job right away? Will I upgrade my skills first? Do I need to improve my English before anything else? Will I look only for a survival job? Will I look for an entry-level job in my field & if not successful, settle for any job? Will I settle for no less than the same position I had back in my country of origin no matter
what? Do I need to improve my English? Do I need to go back to school and study? Do I need to have my credentials assessed? Do I need a licence to practice my profession? What level of English do employers require for professional positions? What companies hire people like me? What recruiters might be interested in me? What type of flexibility can I offer to a company? Time flexibility? Location flexibility? Task flexibility? What job fairs, hiring events and recruitment sessions are most relevant to my needs? What organizations assist newcomers? What programs can help me with career planning and job search? What are the requirements of these programs so I can qualify for their services? What services do I need? What personal and professional network do I have, if any? The ‘where’ questions can include the following: Where will I be looking for work? In Toronto? Metro Toronto? Greater Toronto Area? Anywhere in Ontario? Anywhere in Canada? In urban areas only? In rural areas only? Regardless of the location? Where are the companies that need my knowledge, skills and experience located? Where are the recruiters located? Where are job fairs, hiring events and recruitment sessions usually held? Where are my prospective references? Where are my personal and professional network, if I have any at all? Where are the community resources located? The ‘when’ questions can include the following: When will I job search? Am I ready for job search? Are my job search tools (resume, cover letter, etc.) ready? Am I confident that I can pass a job interview, regardless of what type of interview it is
C
areer specialists have pointed out the importance of two key points in resume writing. One is substance or what the resume contains. The other is format or how the resume is formed. I have written several times before about the former but not as much about the latter. Assuming that the contents of your resume are good, you still need to ask these questions. Is your resume clear, direct and easy to read? Or does it follow a confusing, messy and jumbled format? Can it be considered a good reading material? Will the employer be attracted enough to at least read it? Resume formatting is important because, if no one is interested in ever reading it, how then can you be considered for a position? I review client resumes as part of my regular case management activities and I know that there are resumes that are easy and smooth flowing and one can to go through them all in one blow. But there are those that create the tendency to either put them aside or put them away for good. As an employment counsellor I read all resumes that cross my desk, of course, because it is my duty to do so. But it can very well happen to an employer. Unlike me, they are not obligated to read all resumes. They can pick and choose the
(phone interview, personal interview, internet interview, panel interview, conferencing -style interview, stress interview)? Am I so confident with my skills that I am ready for any skills tests that recruiters or employers or interviewers might throw my way? Will I be ready to provide professional references once the company requires it? Will I be ready to do follow ups on my applications, if allowed to do so? When are job fairs, hiring events and recruitment sessions usually held? When will I contact my profession’s licencing body? When will I have my credentials assessed? When is the best time to cold call a potential employer? When is the best time to do an information meting? When is the best time to follow-up my applications? When do I need to contact my references? The ‘why’ questions can include the following: Why I am pursuing the career path I chose? Why have I chosen this objective, whatever it may be, short-term, medium-
resumes that they are attracted to and want to read. Here ae some points to pay attention to regarding resume format: 1. Is your resume readable? Is the font size just right and easy to the eyes or is it a struggle to read through because the letters are too small? Conversely, is the font size is too big that the resume does not look like a resume at all but more like a flyer? Anyhow, the standard font size is 12 if you use Times New Roman but with biggersized fonts like Arial, perhaps, size 11 will do. 2. Have you followed a single, uniform font style? Or have you used an assorted jumble of font styles and sizes where the titles are in Arial Black size 14, the sub-titles are in Book Antiqua size 14 and the body is in Century Gothic size 12? 3. Are the lines fully justified and follow a uniform pattern? Or are the lines not uniformly or clearly indented that, in reading, one becomes confused whether a series of lines are an enumeration, or some lines are supposed to be the subsets of others? 4. Does your resume look clean and orderly or does it contain a lot of eye clutters such as symbols, signs and emojis? Pls. turn to opposite page. term, long-term? Questioning the why is essentially providing the rationale for what you are doing or intend to do. The ‘how’ questions can include the following: How will I do my job search? On-line only? Will I try not only social networking but also personal networking by contacting employers directly? Will I try using unconventional methods of job search such as cold calling and information meeting? Will I go the extra mile by targeting my resume every time I apply to a new job ad, conduct company research, try mentoring services, volunteer to get my foot in the door or create career websites and business cards to aid my job search? Will I not only attend job fair and hiring events but also participate in networking sessions? Questioning is not a waste of time as some people think. Instead, it can lead to a well-reasoned and more likely to be successful path to your job of choice.

Judy Ann Santos to undergo transference therapy for upcoming Erik Matti parapsychological film
A
part from a biopic based on the life of Regal Entertainment big boss Lily Monterverde, Judy Ann Santos is also set to star in a parapsychological film inspired by Jinky Amores’ bestselling book called “Embracing The Gift.” As part of her preparations for the film, the actress will undergo a transference therapy or a type of session in psychology for which “the feelings, desires, and expectations of one person are redirected and applied to another person” — according to goodtherapy.org. Matti, who will take on the directorial duties for both the Lily Monteverde biopic and the new parapsychological project, revealed during Jinky Amores’ contract
signing that he was supposed to do a transference with the parapsychologist at the infamous Manila Film Center in Pasay City. But due to scheduling conflict, they were forced to postpone it and move it to a later date — with Judy Ann Santos participating as well. Transference,” he said. “Kailangan namin. Kasi si Juday nanghihingi ng experience,” he added, clearing out that it was the Kapamilya superstar who requested to take part in reallife transference session to fully grasp the experience of doing the project.
As much as Matti would want to do the transference therapy at the Film Center, he said Amores would find a less “crazy” place to hold the session. “Namili si Jinky nang hindi naman ganun ka-crazy. Hindi naman parang paglabas lasog-lasog ka na. ‘Yung manageable,” she said. Matti, who admitted he hasn’t
seen nor felt the presence of a ghost in real-life, added, “Buong buhay ko wala pa akong nakikitang multo. Wala pa akong nararamdaman kahit na ‘yung katabi ko [Jinky Amores] nagki-kuwento na.” Meanwhile, the cameras for the said parapsychological film will start rolling towards the end of 2020.
