Pia Wurtzbach
opens up about ‘not being okay’
I
n a rare moment, Pia Wurtzbach showed her vulnerable side to the public as she talked about the days when she is not feeling okay. In her newest vlog released on Tuesday, the Miss Universe 2015 titleholder admitted to feeling down as she got “reminded of the things that are not working so well at the moment.” “Gusto ko maging honest, alam mo ‘yun?” she began, recording the video from her hotel room in Bangkok, Thailand. “There are days na hindi ako okay, na paggising ko parang ang bigat ng gabi. May dinala akong bigat from kagabi tapos dinala ko today, or dinala ko sa paggising ko.” Wurtzbach did not point to a specific person or problem (“Hindi naman sa may masamang nangyari,” she said), but the beauty queen admitted that she struggles to find “true friends” given her life as a celebrity. “It’s not that I have enemies. It’s more of like… It’s a very complicated life that I live in because you don’t really know who your true friends are. Or you think you

do, then turns out they’re not,” she said. “Parang in the end, you don’t really know who has your back. Nadadala mo siya kahit minsan gusto mong kalimutan.” Wurtzbach has yet to resolve this internal struggle, but she said she turns to prayer so she could spend the rest of her day “happy.” “Sa mga moments na ganito, I just pray. I pray na sana ma-let go ko ‘yung feeling na ‘yun. Sana mawala siya, sana mabura siya and then I can continue on with the day happy, happy again,” she said. Wurtzbach went on: “And that’s what I did today. I just want to be honest and say that I woke up not 100% today, and that’s okay. What’s important is you realize [na] alam mo ‘yung mga blessings mo, you’re grateful and you just how to let go. So that’s what I did today.” True enough, Wurtzbach returned to her cheerful self after opening up, with the beauty queen giving her viewers a glimpse of her activities in Bangkok before heading to Jakarta, Indonesia to host an event.

laying the role of Mrs. Lovett in the musical thriller Sweeney Todd, Lea Salonga said she had no hesitations playing the role of a anti-hero on stage for a change. “This is not the first time that I’m playing someone who’s flawed and terrible but this is the first time I get to play a villain. But I don’t want to think that my fans are stupid. And I don’t think that they are. I think that they’re going to be able to separate me as a person from the character that I’m going to play. So I don’t think fans will automatically turn on me and say, ‘Ay, ayoko na sa kanya kasi she’s playing a bad guy.’ Some of the nicest people play bad guys. And some of the not nice people play the good guys so that’s something to think about. But I don’t want to insult my fans’ intelligence by saying they will stop patronizing me and my work, wholesome or not, because I get to play a villain in one show,” she shared during the Sweeney Todd presscon held last October 2 in Pasay city. Fans of the talented artist can expect to see a totally different side of Lea Salonga in the Tony Award-winning musical. “There’s a lot of roles that are written for theater that are not nice people and here we’re not nice folks. And I’m finding it extremely liberating and interesting and fun playing a villain. and I’m finding myself having far more input and
ideas. So some of the stuff that I think of (for her) are demented, dirty, and nasty. I guess I really have that aspect of that personality is actually in me as is in any human being. And the thing about being an actor is that you should be open to playing both the good and the bad. And the same as in films, you can’t always play the nice guy. I’m very nice when I do concerts, I’m very nice when I’m a coach on The Voice. But I’d like to think that audiences are intelligent enough to be able to separate who I am in real life from who I am on stage as a character in a show,” Lea explained. Lea also said she has long graduated from playing cookie cutter roles of leading ladies. “I do a lot of musical theater and I’m not always going to be the pretty girl with the pretty songs and the one with the happy ending that gets her prince. I’m 48. I’ll leave that to the 24 years olds to do. But now it’s nice to be able to do play interesting human beings, to step into the shoes of someone who would do these type of things,” she said.

‘Are Artistas Ruining YouTube?’ Wil Dasovich shares thoughts about the issue

ith the massive number of celebrities entering the YouTube world, a netizen raised concern that these celebrities might be overshadowing regular content creators. This was the issue that popular YouTuber Wil Dasovich tackled in his latest vlog titled “Are Artistas Ruining YouTube?” According to Wil, celebrities putting up their channels is actually helpful to the YouTube community. He said that this paves the way for mainstream media viewers to be present on the YouTube platform as well. “Once artistas becoming YouTubers I felt like it was the merg-

ing of that gap between YouTubers and professional entertainers,” Wil stated. He added that because mainstream celebrities are now also on the platform, this attracts more brands to the platform. “Ultimately artistas coming to YouTube brings more viewers on the platform and in return this brings more advertisers so everyone wins,” he said.

Wil credited Alex Gonzaga as the one who majorly introduced vlogging to the mainstream crowd. “The person who really paved the way for artistas to really start [vlogging] was Alex Gonzaga. There were really a lot who started before her but she was really who transcend her career and successfully crossover to the digital platform,” he said. According to Wil, Alex showed how YouTube could become a tool to be more successful. “She showed the pos-
sibilities and the outcomes of expanding out from traditional media. Even until this day, she is the only traditional artista who get this max deal types of endorsements because of her digital star power,” he said. Before his vlog concluded, Wil stressed that YouTubers are in the platform not to compete with each other but rather to work hand in hand. “The beauty about YouTube is it’s a meritocracy. Anyone is free to join and for the most part anyone has the equal opportunity of making it plus it is a collaborative opportunity. We all help each other out,” Wil said.
JP Laxamana on writing ‘Ang Henerasyong Sumuko sa Love’: ‘It’s for millennials to understand themselves more’

fter the success of Just a Stranger, director Jason Paul Laxamana follows it up with a film that tackles the real life problems of a typical college barkada. “It features millennials being the people who grew up without internet sa simula pero midway na-expose sila sa internet, sa social media. The movie is more for millennials to understand themselves more,
Jerome it tackles the issue of hook up, na parang dahil sa social media, ang daming choices para sa pag-ibig. Pero sa sobrang dami ng choices, ang hirap pumili, gusto na tikman lahat,” he said. Out of all his characters, direk JP admitted he relates to Tony Labrusca’s character the most. “Yung mga millennials ngayon napaka-competitive, kaya lagi silang work ng work, at the
So walang singular message kasi iba iba eh. Nagiging about the numbers yung tingin namin sa sarili namin. We measure our self-worth based on how many likes and shares that we get from people sa social media,” he explained. Direk JP said the gay character Denzel played by Jerome deals with the downside of dating apps. “Si Jerome nung una ayaw niya, parang natatakot siya sa role. Gusto niya yung ibang role. Sabi ko, ‘Feeling ko ikaw lang kasi makakagawa nito.’ So nabudol ko rin siya (laughs). I told him I really saw him as a good character actor and I think pang-level up sa kanyang acting and I’m very glad na nagpa-budol naman siya sa akin. Yung character ni
expense of other factors sa buhay nila like yugn character ni Tony. Lagi silang busy to the point na minsan wala na silang time for relationships. Not just love, pati family, even for loving themselves wala na silang time. So clash yung pananaw nila pagdating sa pag-ibig. In general, gusto ko ipaintindi sa ibang generations kung bakit kami ganito,” he said. If there was one takeaway JP hopes the audience can get from watching his film, it’s to be a more positive and considerate of others. “Ang bottomline is the world is not going to get kinder, life is not going to get any easier and all we can do is look out for one another.

During a press conference held at Shangri-La The Fort in Bonifacio Global City, the former beauty queen revealed that it all started with a message on Viber. “They just viber-ed me and I thought it was a mistake. I thought maybe they weren’t referring to me. And you know I did a lot of texts and vibers. And I didn’t really answer it in the beginning. And then they viber-ed again,” she said. “They said yeah. a exclusive interview namin kay Sarah Geronimo sa media conference para sa pelikula niyang Unforgettable ng Viva Films ay ibinahagi niya sa PUSH ang ilan sa mga itinuturing niyang mga “unforgettable” sa kanyang buhay. T u l a d na lang halimbawa sa kanyang unforgettable song. “Siguro po yung unforgettable song ko is yung ‘To Love You More,’ yung winning piece ko po sa
yung A Very Special Love na ginawa ko with John Lloyd (Cruz) kasi that’s the first time na nakatrabaho ko siya and first time na sobrang kilig na kilig po ako. Na nag-work, kasi yon yung character ko talagana sobra siyang kilig kay Miggy (Montenegro) so do’n nagsimula yung Miggy and Laida (Magtalas), yung John Lloyd-Sarah,” she said. “Siguro, back in the day, yung mga panahon na buo po yung family namin, very unforgettable sa akin yon. Yung f a m i l y gathering kasama
Star For A Night. Bakit? “I don’t know kung pumiyok nga ba ako o nalimutan ko yung lyrics.
May mga konting ano… misunderstanding pero at the end of the day pamilya pa rin, saka masaya pa ring magkakasama ang lahat,” lahad pa niya. Eh, sino ba ang kanyang unforgettable leading man? “Ah, si Milo (the dog in the movie). Hahaha!” humalakhak niyang sagot. “Totoo po,” hirit pa ng Popstar Princess. “Kasi iba yung feeling po kapag mahal namahal mo yung kaeksena mo at mahal na mahal ko yung aso, si Milo. So, hindi siya naging mahirap po for me. Ewan ko po sa kanya kung nahirapan siya sa akin. Hahaha!”
