sia would ever mention my name. Thank you! Filipinos have always been known for ‘bayanihan.’” “I’m nowhere near from being a billionaire, but I try my best to do my part in my own little way. I hope this would inspire other people to help as well,” she said.

the Philippines. The only other Filipino in the list is businessman Hans Sy of the SM Group, whose combined net worth with his siblings is at P878 billion. According to Forbes Asia, Locsin donated P1 million to aid the recovery of earthquake-hit Mindanao in October, on top of personally distributing relief supplies as seen in viral photos at the time. Over the last 10 years, Locsin’s donations have amounted to some P15 mil-
lion, benefitting programs related to education, indigenous people, and anti-violence against women and children, aside from her relief drives during calamities. “You don’t need to wear a costume to be a superhero,” she was quoted as saying in the piece, referring to her popular
portrayal of the Filipino komiks icon Darna in 2005. As one of the most followed Filipino celebrities on social media, Locsin said she hopes she can lead by example, when it comes to her advocacies. “It’s like taking little steps towards substantive, holistic change for the future of the next generations,” Forbes Asia reported her as saying. “The only motivation we need is being part of humanity.” ABS-CBN News

Aga Muhlach, ayaw mag-expect na mananalo bilang Best Actor sa MMFF BY LEO BUKAS
“
Ginanap ang grand presscon ng Miracle in Cell No. 7 nitong Biyernes, December 6. Aniya, “Ayokong asahan kasi, more than anything, mas masaya ako na maipakita yung pelikula namin na ginawa. Gusto ko talagang mapanood nilang lahat yung pelikula, more than anything.”
“It was really overwhelming. Kasi hindi ako nanonood ng pelikula ko, napapanood ko lang ang pelikula ko pag premiere night na. Pagkakita nila sa akin they started clapping and congratulating me. Sabi ko, ‘Wow, parang nakakahiya naman.’ “Ayokong masyadong mag-expect na ganun, masaya na ako nag-enjoy sila and they were all congratulating me and the whole cast. And siyempre, parang alam na nila, may mga haka-haka, may mga predictions silang sinabi, happy sila, eh,” kuwento ng magaling na aktor. Pabiro naming sinagot ni Direk Nuel Naval ang tanong sa kanya kung totoong na-take-10 si Aga sa ilang eksena sa pelikula habang nag susyuting sila.
James Reid explains why he and Nadine Lustre have no projects together right now
W
ith James Reid leaving his former talent management agency VIVA and pursuing a path of his own, the Kapamilya actor admitted that his decision came with a few challenges. One of which, he revealed, was the difficulty of working on some projects with his love team partner Nadine Lustre. While he did not disclose anything specific, Reid admitted that leaving VIVA prevented them from working with each other. During a special event for outdoor shoe brand Merrell, James Reid, who is among the first Filipino celebrities to hop in on the much-talked-about Gorpcore trend, explained why he and Nadine currently have no projects together. “In the pipeline, no. Not right now. Since I left VIVA, it’s been [difficult]. We’re waiting for things to settle down so we can work out how

Paliwanag niya, “Actually, nu’ng first three days lang. Hahaha! No, no, first three days kasi kinakapa pa lang niya yung role and since hindi nga niya pinanood yung movie, siyempre hindi niya alam kung paano talaga aatakehin yung role. Then after the third day, puro take one na, dire-diretso. “I’m humbled na this guy, he trusted me as a director, so sobra akong thankful din sa kanilang lahat. Everyday I
look forward to going to the shoot, hindi mabigat yung pakiramdam mo because you know you’ll be working with the best sa industry.”
said. Asked if it’s challenging for him and Nadine Lustre, who is still with VIVA at the moment, he answered: “Currently, yes. I admit it’s challenging. But
we’re trying to work things out.” “It’s very difficult to talk about it right now. But we’re just waiting for everything to be settled until we can work out how we can work together in the future,” he stated. He added: “But for sure, me and Nadine are good. We’re definitely going to work together in the future.” Reassuring JaDine fans that they will remain a love team, he said: “There’s no reason for us not to work together.” It was earlier this year when James Reid decided to leave VIVA after being with the Vic Del Rosario-owned management company for seven years. Reid currently owns a management company called Reid Entertainment Inc. He also has a record label of his own called Careless Music Manila.

“Kasi bagong kombinasyon, and definitely ‘yung project, ibang iba sa Probinsyano.
Sabi nga namin, sinusubukan namin na, sana wish namin, mahabol namin ‘to for Valentine’s Day,” aniya.

Are they dating? Vico Sotto spotted with Gretchen Ho
F
ans of Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto and “Umagang Kay Ganda” host Gretchen Ho could not contain their excitement as the two were recently spotted together. Photos of Sotto and Ho watching a SEA Games event together have been making the rounds on Twitter, with netizens asking if they are dating.
Others have gone as far as giving them a couple nickname: “ViChen.” A quick look at Sotto’s Twitter page would show that the young mayor only shared photos of him with his other “seatmates,” such as actor-turned-politician Richard Gomez, during the game. This added fuel to the fire as netizens had the impression that Sotto does not want his followers to know that he was seated beside Ho. “Hindi ba si Gretchen [ang] katabi mo?” one asked, sharing a stolen shot of Sotto with the TV host. Another quipped: “Share mo din ‘yung picture niyo nung isa mo pang katabi.” Sotto, son of comedian Vic Sotto and actress Coney Reyes, has become a celebrity in his own right after winning the Pasig mayoral seat early this year, putting an end to the political dynasty in the city. Ho, who rose to fame as a volleyball player for Ateneo de Manila University, has made a career out of hosting. Both Sotto and Ho have previously mentioned that they are single. The two have yet to react to the circulating photos as of writing.

Mactan Cebu International Airport wins World Architecture award
T
he Philippines’ Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) Terminal 2 has won an award at the World Architecture Festival, beating transport stations in other countries. MCIA won the festival’s Completed Buildings-Transport category, edging out Singapore’s Jewel Changi Airport, Hong Kong West Kowloon Station, Sydney Australia’s Barangaroo Ferry Wharf, and several other structures. “The architecture of Terminal 2 was designed by multi-awarded firm Integrated Design Associates (IDA) Hong Kong and its Principal Architect, Winston Shu, in collaboration with world-class Filipino designers,” MCIA said. World-famous Cebuano furniture-maker Kenneth Cobonpue helped conceptualize the terminal, which has timber arches and floor-to-ceiling glass panels. Cebuano furniture-maker Kenneth Cobonpue, whose clients include Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie, helped conceptualize the terminal, which has timber arches and floor-to-ceiling glass panels that evoke the feel of the country’s 5-star beach destinations. GMR-Megawide, a Filipino-Indian consortium, built the 65,500-square meter Mactan-Cebu International Airport Terminal 2. It operates Terminal 1, which it also refurbished. The expanded Mactan Cebu International Airport, the country’s second-largest air terminal, hosts 26 airlines that fly to 25 international and 30 domestic destinations, the consortium said in a statement. “We are committed to delivering a world-class travel experience to the public with our signature Filipino warmth,” GMR Megawide Cebu Airport Corp president Louie Ferrer said. “With the addition of Terminal 2, not only will we be able to sustainably cope with the steadily increasing number

Career Flexibility: What does it Really Mean?
uman resources professionals, including career counsellors, have always emphasized the importance of having some room to maneuver or to wiggle within one’s career path. It is called ‘career flexibility’. But what does it really mean for a newcomer looking to obtain the first break-out job in the Canadian labour market? Does it always mean dumbing down your resume and accepting a survival job or manual labour or low-skilled skilled position? The meaning is not as narrow as that; not at all. Career flexibility, in fact, means a lot of different things depending on the range and depth of one’s occupational/ professional background: education, training, skills, competencies, experiences, accomplishments, credentials, etc. Career flexibility can include: 1) Flexibility in terms of sector. For example, a teacher who was employed, professionally, in her field and, at the same time, worked on community development extension programs, part-time and volunteered as a piano teacher for young people. Clearly, this person can choose to employ her talents in three different sectors, one at a time or simultaneously: education, community service and arts & culture. 2) Flexibility in terms of industry. Say, the industry that has something to do with monetary and finance: Accounting, Banking, Investment, Insurance, etc. I have met accountants who are strictly accountants, just the counting, accounting and auditing of money and where it is spent. But I have also met accounting professionals who are multidisciplinary and whose background cuts across the whole industry. 3) Flexibility in terms of profession. The profession of Human Resources (HR) management has several areas of specialization that students can major in: Recruitment and Selection, Compensation and Benefits, Training and Development, Labour Relations and Conflict Management, Health and Safety, HR Planning and Strategy, etc. If your professional prepa-
ration and practice cuts across these different specialties, then you are decidedly more flexible. 4) Flexibility in terms of specialization. Career Planning is actually a specialty within HR Management. It includes Employment Counselling, Job Search Facilitation and Job Development (or Work Placement & Employment Matching). I know some practitioners who can handle the whole nine yards and can easily navigate counselling as well as they do facilitation and job development. 5) Flexibility in term of subspecialization. There are people who are aiming to become Analytical Chemists (quantitative, qualitative). There are such chemists who can do QA & QC but there are those who can do more: QA/QC plus R&D. Another example is in Employment Counselling. There are lots of Employment Counsellors (ECs) who can do general counselling but there is a limited number of ECs who can do vocational counselling as well. Vocational counselling requires special training in the administration of Psychological, Psychometric, Personality and other tests. 6) Flexibility in terms of career path. There are newcomers who want one thing and one thing only: to work in a job the same as what they used to do. But there are new immigrants who are more flexible. They are willing to reach their ideal job step by step. A short-term goal is identified that will set the stage to achieve the medium-term goal which will then help reach the long-term goal. From PSW to RPN to RN, for instance? I know some Filipino nurses who opted to follow this path. 7) Flexibility in terms of talent. Say you are a writer and you can write just about any form of writing invented: prose, poems, short stories, novels, biographies, fiction, non-fiction, etc. Say you are a musician and you can compose just about any musical genre: Blues. Classical, Country, Electronic, Folk, Jazz, Rock, Reggae, Rap (if one can call ‘Rap’ music).

iss Malaysia Shweta Sekhon on Monday took to social media to air her side on the controversial mix-up in announcing the winner of best in national costume in the Miss Universe 2019 pageant. In the pageant held in Atlanta, Georgia on Sunday, host Steve Harvey announced Miss Philippines Gazini Ganados as the winner of the special award, with a photo of the 23-year-old Cebuana in her Philippine Eagle-inspired ensemble during the preliminaries round of the pageant flashing on the screen. However, it was Shweta, clad in her Peranakan cusine-inspired national costume, who was on stage to receive the recognition. On Instagram Monday night, Shweta revealed that she was given the impression that she won the special award as she was asked to wear her national costume and go on standby during the pageant. “Many has been asking me questions and clarification about the National Costume. Well four countries were briefed to be on standby as we were Top 4 for National Costume and Philippines was part of it too . We were told that a picture would be displayed if we made it to Top 20 and if we don’t, we would have to put it on. The entire day the crew went on finding my costume as I was told to be the WINNER. That is why I got into the costume too,” she said. In a press statement, the Miss Universe Organization (MUO) stressed that Steve did not make a mistake in announcing Ganidi as best in national costume. “Mr. Harvey made a joke out of it, but no mistakes regarding the national costume winner were made by him, the prompter, or production,” it said. “As part of the
broadcast, we also featured Miss Universe Malaysia Shweta Sekhon’s national costume. Miss Sekhon wasn’t aware we’d be announcing Philippines first, so she jumped the gun when Mr. Harvey started with that news,” the pageant organizer added. In her post Monday night, Shweta said that she’s “totally fine” with the mixup and even congratulated Gazini on her best in national costume award. “I am totally fine with it because in my eyes, every girl that came to compete is a winner! Philippines or Malaysia, there isn’t any difference because we are O N E!” she said. “Congratulations to the very beautiful [Gazini!] Love you so much babe,” she added. She went on to express her support for the new reigning queen, Zozibini Tunzi of South Africa. “Congratulations [Zozibini Tunzi] for the title, too! Truly deserving indeed and I can’t wait to see your journey!” she said.
