and enjoyable for each student. KCFI developed “MathDali” in 2016 after years of familiarity with the Philippine educational landscape. Through the program, integral life skills like critical thinking, creativity, communication and collaboration and the growth mindset, which Filipino students need to develop, are honed. Judy Ann Santos, natutunan magpatawad at mag-move on noong 2019

A

BY LEO BUKAS

So, lalong lumalaki, eh.

Basta pag Page 26 pls.

Sharon Cuneta reacts to rumors of her daughter KC Concepcion dating Apl.de.ap

A

BY RHEA MANILA SANTOS

fter coming out with a series of Instagram posts revealing the strained relationship between her and KC Concepcion, Your Face Sounds Familiar judge Sharon Cuneta admitted she cannot confirm the rumors that her eldest daughter has been dating Black Eyed Peas member apl.de.ap. “I just wish I heard it from (her) if it’s true. I didn’t even know she wasn’t coming December 31. We didn’t know. And I didn’t know we weren’t going to see her the next day. I’m worried lang on what she might be going through. It’s not like her eh so siguro kasi she’s older. As we grow older, maybe you feel less need to consult with your parents,” she shared during the A Mega Celebration presscon held last January 9 in ABS-CBN. Sharon denied that the rift with her daughter started when KC and her

French boyfriend Pierre Plassart broke up last year after giving their relationship a second try. “Actually hindi naman dahil kay Pierre. Close ako kay Pierre tapos close din ako kay KC independently. Tapos tuwang tuwa ako nung sila kasi second time around na nila and we really thought it was going there finally. So I miss Pierre because he’s a good person just like I miss Aly (Borromeo),” she shared. If the rumors are indeed true, Sharon said she has nothing but respect for the US-based

artist. “I have a lot of respect for apl. de.ap. See I don’t know what’s happening to my daughter (laughs) in her life. That’s a surprise to me so I don’t know what to say. But I have a lot respect for Apl. He’s a good person,” she said. The Your Face Sounds Familiar host also admitted she can understand why KC has not kept her up to date with her personal life. “Because she’s in her 30s na. She has her own life to live. All

I’m asking for is yung pinost ko na lang. I think paglaki rin nila Frankie they will have their own lives also but I believe like me, sila Frankie will always, always make it a point to let me know what they’re doing and how they are. Pero wala akong pinalaking batang masama,” she explained.

iza Soberano reacted to Catriona Gray’s recent statement that she is Miss Universe material. It can be recalled that Catriona mentioned Liza as one of her picks from local personalities who has the potential to be in Miss Universe “Well of course it’s flattering coming from Miss Universe herself and of course ate Pia (Wurtzbach) was also very supportive of me on that matter,” Liza stated in an interview with the media at the Make It With You press conference. Asked if she is open to entering the pageant world in the future, Liza responded, “I don’t want to say that I’m completely closing the doors but I honestly don’t see it in my career path because I am very passionate about acting and I feel like being a beauty queen takes a lot of time and I have to prepare physically, I have to prepare my walk, because I am not a beauty queen. I mean it requires a lot of training and I don’t think kaya kong mapalayo sa acting that long.” She added, “I won’t say that [I’m closing my doors] because we’re humans and we change our minds every now and then.” The media also asked Enrique Gil about his thoughts on the possibility of Liza entering the pageant world. “ I would make jokes and tell her na you know why don’t you join, you’re still my Miss Universe but she really doesn’t feel it inside her kasi gusto ko siyempre genuinely she really wants it and I do think it’s not really for everyone but who knows, di ba? Maybe, maybe not, it really depends,” he remarked.

‘We’re not playing with our emotions’: Pops Fernandez on working again with ex-husband Martin Nievera

T

he king and the queen of the concert scene are back. Pops Fernandez and Martin Nievera are about to perform again in a week-long concert series for Valentines. During the press conference last Wednesday, January 8, Pops shared how she and her ex-husband Martin became comfortable enough with each other again that they don’t feel any tension between them now. “I think we surpassed it; the stress and the tension. Parang gusto nga naming matense e hindi na ayaw na. I always say this, performing with Martin is so easy. He makes it easy for me,” she said. Martin felt the same way and described their chemistry on stage as ‘automatic’. “Pag magkasama kami ni Pops, napakadali, it’s so easy. It’s automatic already. I think the people see that. Nothing is forced, and we don’t try to enforce anything on the stage, that we cannot deliver honestly and sincerely,” he explained. The OPM tandem will be bringing back their US concert tour they did last year of the same title. This time, it will be held at Solaire Theater on February 14, 15, 17 until 21. Pops and Martin will have special guests like Rita Daniela, Ken Chan, and more surprise guests. Meanwhile, Pops also addressed issues made by some netizens who are accusing them of ‘pretending’ and ‘using’ their emotions for the sake of staging a concert. “We never pretend. We don’t pretend and we’re not saying and never we are saying that because we’re performing together there is a chance that we will get back together. No.

“We’re not playing with our emotions. Whatever it is that you see, is what you get. I think it’s just that we still discovered that we do enjoy performing together,” Pops explained. Martin dedicated the concert for their fans who have supported even before

the two became a couple. “If we did anything well together in the ‘80s, back then, its being had a team that seemed to work; the chemistry on stage, the songs that we sang. And because of this chemistry, marami rin kaming mga taong we used to call ‘fans’ and we wanted for these fans to keep the fandom alive. “We shouldn’t kill it just because we’re no longer together but before we started performing together we we’re still not together, the magic was in the performance. Pops and Martin have two sons, Robin and Ram, before their marriage was annulled in 1999. Martin had his second relationship with Katrina Ojeda, who is the mother of his youngest son, Santino. Martin and Katrina’s relationship eventually ended in 2003.

Job Search Vocabulary

‘Positive Employability Mindset’

I

would like to start year 2019 on a positive note and I’ve got just the perfect topic for it: ‘Positive Employability Mindset.’ Job search (JS) is already a hard enough project to embark on so one needs all the motivation and encouragement one can get. Motivation for job search is externally and internally generated: 1) externally given by ‘encouragers’ or ‘enhancers’, whether in an informal or professional capacity: family, relatives, friends, acquaintances, fellow job seekers, career counselors, job developers, mentors, social workers, etc.; and 2) internally created by the job seekers themselves. And this is where the importance a positive employability mindset comes in. What are the aspects of job search that one needs to be positive about? 1) That there are jobs out there for you. Rather than thinking that there are no jobs available in the labour market, try to redouble your efforts in looking for position openings. Try to go beyond applying directly to jobs online. As I have noted in previous writings, in job search, it is not enough that your fingers do the walking. You yourself must do the walking by connecting and networking with people. 2) That you focus on what you have, not what you don’t have in terms of knowledge, skills, experience, etc.. I’ve met countless clients who spend their time worrying about what they do not have and, in the process, forgetting what they do have. For example, a newcomer job seeker does not have the license to work as a professional engineer but has advanced project coordination skills and experience that qualify him/her to work in a construction site. 3) That your language level is enough for the job you are seeking. Rather than worrying that you might not pass an interview for your ideal position because your language proficiency is not high enough, why not look for an interim opportunity that you will likely succeed in finding? An entry-level job will not only create that proverbial “put your feet in the door’ opportunity, it will also allow some

time for you to gain more language proficiency in your field. 4) That progressive-minded employers out there want you and your qualifications. I have heard a lot of people talking about discrimination that employers prefer to not hire immigrants. True, there are employers who are discriminatory, we don’t live in a perfect world, but not all of them are. Rather than make this a disincentive to look for work, try to research companies that have a great track record in their employment & human resource policies. Also try to prepare for that time when you do actually meet and interview with an employer that discriminates. If you prepare well enough for an impressive interview, you just might be able to turn the interview meeting to your advantage. 5) That you do have what it takes to attain your ‘real job’. Rather than continue despairing that you will never be able to practice your profession, why not start planning your long-term goal now while looking for a survival job or an interim opportunity? Remember, earning a license as a professional engineer, accountant, teacher, etc. is a long process. You need to plan not only academically but financially as well. 6) That you can do something about what you lack and not focus on the lack itself. For example, instead of fussing over the fact that you only know two out of the three software programs Canadian employers generally require in your profession, why not enroll in a short-term course, or better still, self-learn it for free online? 7) That you can start building your professional network and not just accept and live with the fact of not having any. Rather that say “I don’t have any connections since I am new to the country so I can’t network with anyone”, why not go to an employment centre and meet with a counselor who in due time, will connect you with other career professionals, including job developers, whose main responsibility is to connect/match employment needs of job seekers to the employee demands of employers?

Judy Ann... from page 5 Piolo-Juday project. Everybody is looking forward to it. Habang tumatagal siyempre mas lalong nagiging kritikal –kritikal ang materyal. So yon lang, with the perfect project, right director and perfect timing, bakit naman hindi?”pahayag pa niya.

Ang daming kailangang ikonsider, so I’m just not being selfish because I just don’t want. Marami lang talagang kailangan pang ikonsider,” katwiran pa ni Judy Ann.

And tama siya, when I first saw him also, it felt familiar kumbaga. It’s a familiar place, it’s a comfortable place, a safe place,” she explained. Usually the quieter of the two, Joshua said he missed seeing his Block Z co-star. “Okay naman kami. Okay kami. Na-busy siya, na-busy ako,” he added.
