Nagdirek ako for Maalaala Mo Kaya that’s were I started. Then I did Wansapanataym. Tapos I did Judy Ann Drama Special. “Masasabi ko pa nga, mas meron akong low point as an actor, eh. It was after Buddy En Sol (with Redford White). After Buddy En Sol I started doing soap operas na ang feeling ko kasi, parang when I was doing soap operas, nung time na yon, ang baba ng bayad sa artista.

So feeling ko lang, ba’t ako biglang… andito na yung talent fee ko, biglang all of a sudden parang bumaba. And then parang no matter what, parang kahit tatlong beses akong nagti-taping, parang mas maganda pa yung nagtatrabaho ka ng isang araw. Parang ganun yung katumbas ng time na yon. “Tapos I was doing this show with Richard (Gomez), yung Your Honor (sa ABS-CBN), which I thought was a really good show. Excited na excited akong gawin yung show tapos biglang pagbalik ko from the States pinutol na nila because hindi daw nagre-rate. “So for three months wala akong ginagawa. Nawalan ako ng ano, parang that was really for me the lowest point. “Kumbaga, parang I wasn’t directing anything, I wasn’t acting. Tapos everything in my life was not falling into place,” pagrerecall ni Eric. “Alam ko I’m not a star anymore. Wala na yon, eh, wala na yung matinee idol or whatever. I’d rather be called a reliable actor or a reliable director.

S
a ulat ng TV Patrol, masayang ibinalita ni Secretary of Tourism Bernadette Romulo-Puyat ang pangako ng ilang malalaking celebrity na tutulong sa bagong tourism campaign ng bansa ng walang bayad. “Nangako na sa akin sila Aga Muhlach, Sharon Cuneta, Armi Millari of Up Dharma Down, Rico Blanco, apl.de.ap. They’ve already signified that they want to help the Department of Tourism, the country for free, walang bayad.”

Tipid man sa pagbibigay detalye,
“Ang hirap niya i-categorize as of the moment, hindi naman siya melodramatic, but I guess medyo may pagka-light
drama. Pero sa feeling ko based as script it’s a light drama.
“Yes, nag-script reading kami, talagang binasa namin ang buong script at nagbatuhan kami ng lines together with the other cast, so kailangan ready kami bago kami sumabak sa Vancouver.” “Sobrang impressive the way he works, I mean talagang malalim siya mag isip.
Kasi I want to be different, I want her (character) to be charming and alam niyo naman ako pagdating sa haircut, gagawin ko yun for the character,” pahayag ni Bea.

REFLECTIONS By Dr. Jun Vencer
C
PEACE MAKING–PART I
onsider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance (Jas. 1:2,3). These trials come because we live in a fallen world of sinful men and the sinister presence of evil in it. Our Lord reminds us that in this world you will have troubles (John 16:33). These trials and troubles include conflicts among Christians in their marriage, at home, at work, and in the church. Even mature Christians have conflicts. Illustrative cases are the conflict between Paul and Barnabas over Mark (Acts 15:36-41) and that of Euodia and Syntychefor unknown reasons (Phil. 4:2-3). Of course, conflicts can have disastrous results such as violence, breakups of friendship, assassination of character, division in a church or an institution, and many others. But not all conflicts are bad for good can come out of it. In the New Testament, the early
P 24
Christian church experienced conflict because some people complained that they were shortchanged in the distribution of food (Acts 6). But a solution developed that resulted in the change of structure of delivery of services for the better. Crisis can result in new creations. God said, I will do something new. Conflict “begins when you are at odds with another person over what you think, want or do. It begins when you don’t get what you want” (Ken Sande & Kevin Johnson). This definition is consistent with what James, the brother of Jesus Christ, said: What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? You want something but don’t get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot get what you want. You quarrel and fight (Jas. 4:12). When two Christians are in conflict for whatever reason, how are they to resolve their conflict and restore peace between them? Of course, one can deny
ARTISTA WINNIPEG JUNE 2018 ISSUE
that there is a conflict or simply run away from it or go into depression. Often one simply quitsor resigns. Of course, one can just overlook the cause of the conflict and forgive. The Bible says, “The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger. And his glory is to overlook a transgression” (Prov. 19:11). This will be noble although but there are conflicts that one cannot simply ignore. These solutions do not solve the problem nor will it give lasting peace of mind. This is simply peace faking. Ken Sande and Kevin Johnson offer the Four Gs of conflict resolution which I find very helpful with some modifications. The first is GO HIGHER. Focus on God. What is God saying to me at this time? Can I hear God in the midst of conflict giving me a new commission, a new direction or a new way of doing things? God works through the events and structures of history. Our God is the God of newness. We are horizontal-focused during conflicts – between parties. We start with a vertical focus – God and His glory alone. Conflicts provide opportunities to glorify God. The Bible says, Whatever you do, do it all to the glory of God (1 Cor. 10:31).? The second G is GO INNER. Get real. Most conflicts, if not all, are products of contributory factors. Jesus said, How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when
all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye ….” (Matt. 7:3-5). Analyze the conflict thoroughly. Face the facts. Ask a mature Christian-friend to spot your failings. Listen to their advice and accept instruction, and in the end you will be wise (Prov. 19:20). The truth shall make you free (John 8:32). Avoid an over-reaction to the conflict and take an adversarial position immediately. Don’t prejudge the other person. Due process demands that we hear the other person’s side. Nicodimus asked during the almost ex parte hearing of Jesus before the Jewish leaders, Does our law condemns a man before it hears him (Jn. 7:52). Once you recognize our part in the conflict own the part one hundred percent. Even if your part may only be 10% of the conflict, own 100% of that 10%. Only then are you ready to initiate steps towards reconciliation and restoration of relationship. Peace is worth our greatest effort. The Bible says, Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace (Eph. 4:3). Why? Because Jesus Christ is the Prince of Peace. Nadine Lustre to play the role of Maria Makiling in “Pedro Penduko” movie
N
adine Lustre will play an important role in the upcoming “Pedro Penduko” movie and it will be more than just a cameo. The film’s producer Paul Alexei Basinillo confirmed with ABS-CBN News that the actress will play the role of “Maria Makiling.” According to Paul, Nadine’s character can summon elemental spirits from the earth and is close to Mother Nature. The movie will give a modern take on “Maria Makiling.” Director Treb Monteras II shared, “Tao siya, definitely. Kasi iyong Maria Makiling na nai-imagine natin lagi, diwata. Sa school, palaging itinuturo
sa atin na diwata siya. Pero for this one, mas relatable siya. Probably because si Maria Makiling, buhay siya --mayroon siyang Facebook and Twitter.” Apart from “Pedro Penduko”, “Maria Makiling” will also get its solo movie, which is slated to be released in 2020. The movie will be produced by Epik Studios, together with Viva Entertainment and Cignal.
