A
“It’s always at the back of my head, you know? We’ll just see the plans of those people handling my career. I’m not closing doors naman with that,” ani pa ni Michelle. Aniya, all out support pa sa kanya nag kanyang mommy Melanie pagdating sa advice. “Comparison is always there but my mom is making sure na hindi ako na pe-pressure ng ganon. Kasi siguro naman alam natin na the pressure will be on my shoulders kung mangyari na sumali ako sa pageant. So siya laging chill lang, enjoy daw ang journey and learn the process.”
E ako naman when I open my doors kapag nasa right age na siguro ako.
Nadine Lustre looks at the bright side of pregnancy rumors
N
BY MAUREEN MARIE BELMONTE
adine Lustre just laughed off rumors that she’s supposedly pregnant with boyfriend James Reid’s child. The rumor mill started churning after James’ tweet saying that “Today my world has changed.” Quite interestingly, many quickly associated that tweet to Nadine. “It’s funny na may mga ganung issue. At least, I know kahit medyo matagal akong nawala, napag-uusapan pa rin kahit papaano,” said Nadine in an interview with PEP. She added, “At least, may kaunti pa ring relevance.” What further fueled this rumor was the Lauren Reid, James’ sister’s Ins-
tagram story, featuring Nadine’s conversation with their father Malcolm. The It’s Showtime host likewise addressed that post. “Naglolokohan kami, kasi nagdidinner kami one time, ang sabi sa akin ng Daddy ni James, ‘So everybody thinks you’re pregnant,’” she recounted. What actually happened during that moment was Nadine joked that somebody else was probably pregnant. “Sabi ko, di ako pregnant, maybe James is pregnant,” she said. But what was James tweet all about?
“It’s another blessing for James, pero di na ako yung magkukuwento. Hayaan na natin siya,” said Nadine. Meanwhile, Nadine emphasized that she is now slowly recovering from her dengue ordeal. “Okay na, still on and off pa rin yung fever. Mayroon pa rin kaunting weakness, pero I think ganun naman yata talaga ang dengue, hindi kaagad nagre-recover,” she said. Nadine stressed that her platelets is slowly increasing these days. “Di ko talaga alam na may dengue ako until after three weeks na on and off ang lagnat ko. Sobrang thankful ako na yung body ko sobrang lakas ng resistance,” she said. Nadine reiterated that she could have contracted dengue during their trip to Sagada. “Di ko talaga alam
kung saan nanggaling. Basta ang alam ko lang, few days simula nang bumalik kami, nag-start na siya,” she said. She ended, “Uso rin naman kasi talaga.”

B
efore Joshua Garcia’s birthday ends, Julia Barretto surprised the online world with her special birthday greeting for him. The actress made a short clip of their bonding moments and wrote a long message which says how much she appreciates him for standing up for her despite the negative issues. “In the midst of all the judgments, the unkind words thrown at me, in the midst of all the hate and those who doubted me and my heart. There was you. You believed in me. You understood me. You embraced my soul. You saw the good in me and continue to bring out the best in me. You bravely and proudly call me your lucky charm despite the others who think otherwise. You protected me, cared for me and loved me for all that I am. You make me a better person baba, and I am so glad to have found my way to you. You are the real lucky charm. Today (and everyday), you deserve to be celebrated because there is absolutely no one like you. Thank you for being you. Happy birthday,” she said in her clip’s caption. A certain photo of Joshua and Julia made headlines online recently and many fans commented that they have similarities to Claudine and Rico’s team-up. Ako, ayaw ko talaga. Given the right projects lang, she’s doing very well. Magaling siyang umarte. Naniniwala ako na kaya niya. Kaya nila,” Claudine stated. Jessy Mendiola calls Vilma Santos “momskie” BY JOAN LEARY
J
essy Mendiola shocked her online followers after calling Luis Manzano’s mom Vilma Santos “momskie” in her Instagram story. The actress congratulated her boyfriend and the Star for All Seasons for receiving accolades at the 7th EdukCircle Awards. In the Batangas congresswoman’s previous interview, she had nothing but good words for Luis’ girlfriend. She has had a number of times to observe and talk to son Luis Manzano’s current girlfriend Jessy Mendiola. The Star for All Seasons shared that Jessy has been part of their bi-weekly family dinners. She even stressed that she appreciates that kind of gesture of her son. “Well, the mere fact na dinadala ng anak ko, that’s respect. ‘I want you to meet my family...’ And that’s respect, so dinadala niya, so we met,” she said. Does she consider the former Banana Sundae star high above the former girlfriends of her eldest son? “She’s very nice. No, no... hindi sa ganun. It’s just kung magugustuhan ng anak ko, then why not?” she reasoned. In the past, the I Can See Your Voice host has also introduced his previous girlfriends namely Angel Locsin, Jennylyn Mercado, and Nancy Castiglione to his mother. While the seasoned star confirmed it, she stressed a valuable
observation that she has about Jessy. “ Ye a h , that’s true. Kasi I… but one lang I noticed with J e s s y. . . K a s i puro ar-

Pero pag may dinner kami, wala, e, hindi nakikipag-compete, it’s just that: ‘I’m the girlfriend,’” she said. Meanwhile, reports have it that Vilma has been very vocal about wanting to have a grandchild. “Lambing lang yun kapag magdidinner kami. Ganito totoong istorya nun... ‘Dyusko, anak, 36 ka na,’ sabi ko. Ang baby namin, puro aso. Sabi ko, ‘Nak, baka ano… wala na tayong baby,’” she recalled. Vilma then shared how her son would usually respond to her playful request. “Sabi niya, ‘Mom, soon, soon, don’t worry. Mom, kung hindi pa ako, baka si Ryan can give you.’ “Sumagot yung anak ko [Ryan], ‘Mom, if Kuya cannot give you baby, you want me to give you na?’ Yung ganun ba, usapang pamilya?” she said, even hinting that she’s ready to be a grandmother.
“Hanggang ngayon, parang siyang out of body experience.
Pero part of me I wished it was more intimate but dati kasi sinabi ko sa kanya when the proposal happens I want my friends and family to be there.” 2011 nang nagkakilala si Iza at Ben at aminado ang aktres na hindi naging biro ang kanilang pinagdaan kung kaya thankful si Iza kung nasaan sila ngayon.
Parang mag-six years na din kami magkarelasyon and I’m like 30s na din so it’s not something I’m keeping to myself na din.” We had our family gathering yesterday, today I have work so parang hindi pa talaga namin napag-uusapan pero definitely it’s not this year. Next year, probably not even early next year. For us both, it’s work first for now. Maybe in the latter part pa of next year,” pagtatapos na pahayag ni Iza. ARTISTA WINNIPEG OCTOber 2017 ISSUE

And just like all of us, ako, nadapa, bumangon, hayaan mo siya,” she said. Nagulat pa ba siya sa mga nangyari? “Hindi. Iba naman itong ngayon siguro,” reaksyon pa niya. “Ay ako, it’s not for me to judge, he’s a friend, he’s a good friend, I’m sure may dahilan kung bakit nagkaganun and I’m sure he has the intelligence also para ayusin yan at bumangon. “At the end of the day, for me, John Lloyd is a good man. REFLECTIONS By Dr. Jun Vencer
CHOICE, COMMITMENT, CHANGE
C
hoice is becoming our highest value in life. We are conditioned by the advertising siren of consumerism. The choices of products and services that daily competes against each other simply overwhelmsus. What may be the best product today is outmoded tomorrow. We are never settled. We are in a flux always floatin. We remain increasingly discontented. Evangelicals, too, are making choices - choosing Christ as Savior and Lord, choosing our local churches, choosing our lifestyles. Without doubt, choice of faith is a critical personal decision. But because we put so much emphasis on making choices, we easily believe that we can change our choices just as easily as choosing the next model for our cars or appliances. We can change spouse, cars, church or employer. After all, as many erroneously believe, salvation is not God’s gift to us but our gift to Him. We are seduced by the spirit of our post-modern age where words mean what we want them to mean.
P 24
Choice, commitment and change are inseparable especially in Biblical faith. When we choose Christ as Savior we are committed to His teachings and to change to be more Christlike each day. Our choice becomes a covenant that we cannot change lightly. A covenant demands the commitment of our heart and will just as our marriage covenants demandexclusive fidelity the rest of our lives. In Biblical faith, repentance, baptism and salvation are inseparable. When we receive Christ as Lord, we are bound to obey His command- “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me” (Matt. 16:24). Today, we wish to follow Jesus but without His cross. He is ours but we are not really His. We decide the terms of followship. We make choices but no commitment, consequently, no change for Christ. We are disappointed and we doubt our choice for Him. Baptism is a public declaration of a private decision that one now belongs to
ARTISTA WINNIPEG OCTOber 2017 ISSUE
Christ. It is a solemn vow to follow Him and to serve Him in the fellowship of His church. Baptism is a sacrament. The Roman practice of “sacramentum” was far more important than a normal oath in a law court, “so help me God.”Os Guinness, a Christian Apologist, writes: “It was the solemn vow by which a person gave his or her word before an authority and put his or her life in forfeit as a guarantee of what had been sworn. Those who had given their sacramentum were then sacer. They were ‘given to the gods” if they violated the vow. They had given their sacred bond and they were no longer their own ….Choice today can always be casual, whereas the covenantal vow of faith is costly because we commit ourselves to Jesus and mortgage our very selves as we do so. We have chosen, and we are committed. We have picked our crosses, and there is no turning back. We are no longer our own.” Christiansneed to recover the sacredness of our vows, to keep ourpromises – whether in marriage, in church membership or in employment. The Bible says “If you make a vow to the Lord your God, you shall not delay fulfilling it, for the Lord your God will surely require it of you, and you will be guilty of sin” (Deut. 23:21). The search for a perfect marriage, family, church and work-place is illusory. We are not perfect. Change must begin with each of us. And God is helping in the process of our change. He begins with us to honor our choices as a sacrament to all around us. If we don’t, then we dishonor God before the
world. God’s will is not always in the direction of our comforts. We are called by God not to be happy but to be holy. Holiness is keeping our vows to God and to each other. Holiness is our happiness and where His glory is. Otherwise, our settled choice against our vows to God can be our own judgment.

I’m very happy for him!” sabi ni Shy.
