Editor's Message Happy January bunnies! I hope everyone had a wonderful winter break and a wonderful 2017. Through studies that didn't seem to end, hard work at service events, and making the most of last year, y'all have made it through yet another year! We as a division ended the year with a bang. Kiwanis held the annual Rose Float parade and preparation, which had 109 attendees join in for the two day event from D19S. It was an amazing event with so many smiling key clubbers dedicating to making this float possible. As our lovely LTG said, we will have an upcoming joint DCM with D19N on January 27th. Details are in his message and in the upcoming events page. Happy 2018! I hope you enjoy the newsletter :) Hopping to opportunities, Asumi Shuda Division News Editor

This month of January, Narbonne Key Club participated in the Winter Wonderland Event in Harbor City. Other than Key club, clubs such as Kiwins and groups such as the Public Service Academy also volunteered at this event. In the beginning, volunteers were sorted to do various tasks such as trash pickup as well as managing the refreshment stand. We sold drinks such as coffee and fresh hot chocolate, which was a huge hit with the crowd. Later on at night a couple of volunteers helped manage the sled ride near the entrance of the event. The volunteers helped manage the line, make sure kids didn’t get to rowdy, and gather sleds and transfer them back to the front of the line. - Aliya Llanes Narbonne Historian

On December 29, Division 19 South, accompanied by their sister division, Division 19 North, volunteered in the Kiwanis Rose Float Decorations. There was a variety of jobs available for every key clubber that was there. From going on top of the scaffoldings, nearly 1 or 2 levels off the ground to place flowers onto the float, being on ground floor to organize the flowers by color to its specific float, or trimming thorns off the stems of flowers and gluing them on the float. It was an all-day volunteering event that lasted until 12:00am. The event created some amazing and star stunning floats, which made everyone’s hard work and energy pay off at the end of the day. At the end of December, Mira Costa High School’s Key Club traveled to Pasadena to participate in the annual Rose Float event! It was a wonderful way for some of the 19 South club members to gather together during the winter break. The bus ride was a great way to bond, as was volunteering. Mira Costa had eleven members participate by bringing flowers in and out of the facility and prepping flowers as decorations on the floats. Even though the members waited in the cold in the evening, it was worth it to see all of the floats and be part of this event. Decorating the Rose Floats was an amazing way to end Costa’s first semester of Key Club, and we all look towards big division events like this for the remainder of the year. On December 6, North High had a Can Food Drive around the neighborhood of Torrance. We also had a second Can Food Drive the following monday. For this event, Members walked from house to house to collect cans from the area for about an hour. We decided to collect cans to give out to the families that were affected with AIDS/HIV. This would help families have food on the table for the holiday season. We believe this small act of kindness for the families would help make an impact.
