PV Peninsula On January 28th, PV Peninsula Key Club helped out with cleaning the coast of Abalone Cove. The volunteers picked up pieces of trash that could cause damage to the beautiful beach. This event helped the members open up and notice the nature around them that could be damaged by a single bottle cap. Along with picking up trash and pulling weeds in the garden, the key clubbers were able to witness the beautiful sea life at the beach and meet other amazing volunteers who dedicated their time to this beach. This event was absolutely amazing and we encourage all the members to attend! Ashley Liang Historian

This month on January 29, North High Key Club helped in cleaning up our school campus. Volunteers met at our advisor’s classroom and went to different parts of the school and cleaned up the hallways, courts, etc. This event meant a lot to the members as they knew that trash was becoming a bit of a problem for our outdoor campus, especially after lunchtime. One of the members who attended, freshman Ameri Tachiiri, says that the event was “fun since [she] got to help the school while hanging out with [her] friends.” Considering the happy reaction our members had while cleaning up the school, we see this event as a true success and are looking forward to holding another afterschool cleanup again in the future. Mira Costa On January 27th, Mira Costa High School’s Key Club participated in a beach clean up, working together with Heal the Bay and LA Works. This was the club’s biggest volunteer event of the month with nine members participating. Heal the Bay and LA Works provided trash bags and gloves for the members to pick up trash. There was also a volleyball tournament happening at the same time, so members even cleaned up the sand courts. One volleyball players thanked the members for cleaning up the beach, saying it was awesome that we were keeping our beaches clean. We informed him what Key Club is and spread appreciation for the club. It was really nice for the members to clean up one of their local beaches. We hope to be doing an event like this soon.

This month, Narbonne Key Club volunteered to clean up our school garden. Multiple volunteers showed up since it was right after school, and helped our Plant Supervisor, Ms. Perry, clean up the garden. When we arrived at the garden, Ms. Perry split us up to do different gardening tasks. Some volunteers decided to take out weeds throughout the garden, others decided to rake dead leaves, and a couple of volunteers settled for cutting dead branches from trees. This entire event took up to 3 hours, and even though the entire garden isn’t completely cleaned up, the section of the garden that we did clean looked much more beautiful than when we first walked in.
