Mary Star Two major volunteer events that occurred for Mira Costa in the month of August was Conquer Our Run and a park clean up. Conquer Our Run was hosted on August 5th in north Manhattan Beach early in the morning. It was a small race to raise money for bread cancer foundations and lupus. Costa had five members volunteer to take pictures of the runners and hand them water and medals. Towards the end of August, Costa teamed up with Bishop Montgomery for a park clean up and dog toy making event at Wilson Park. New member Sloan Cooksey said that she enjoyed the event and can’t wait to see what Key Club has to offer. The six other volunteers cleaned up the park as much as they could and enjoyed making the dog toys. Costa will be sure to participate in these again in the promotion of foundations and environmental awareness.

Torrance Community  This Month on August 29, Torrance Community Key Club volunteered at the Club Info Day for the incoming freshmen. The officer board got together and made a tri-fold board explaining what Key Club is about and what Key Club does in preparation for this event. The shifts started at 2:20pm and ended at 2:45pm. The officer board ran the booth by promoting the club in ways like talking about fundraisers and how Key Club helps the community. This event was a fun experience and very beneficial for the Torrance Community Key Club Officer Board since the board had a chance to bond with each other while working together to recruit members. Andrew Loreto Torrance Community Historian
Narbonne This month of September, Narbonne Key Club volunteered at our school by helping our teacher, Ms. Perry, clean up the school garden. Multiple volunteers volunteered from 3:15 to 5:00 pm cleaning different parts of the garden. In the beginning, a couple of volunteers were assigned to remove the weeds from the cotton and roses and others were assigned to cut dead branches and leaves from trees. Afterwards, we did simpler tasks such as raking the leaves and watering the newly weeded out plants. We ended cleaning up the garden by throwing out all the dead leaves and making sure all the tools went back to its proper place in the shed. Ms. Perry was very thankful for having us volunteer at her garden, and how we made “everything easier for myself and my gardening students” by helping clean up. Aliya Llanes

North Torrance This month on August 12-13, North High Key Club volunteered at the Gardena Buddhist Church’s annual Obon Festival with shifts starting at 12:00pm and ending at 10:00pm. Volunteers were stationed at different sections of the festival, sometimes switching for different shifts. Some booths that volunteers were stationed at included the Spam Musubi booth, Dango booth, Craft Boutique, Games Booth, Teriyaki Booth, and Bingo Area. This event was a truly fun experience as volunteers from all over came to help out at the festival. When asked about the event, Kyle Abalos, one of the volunteers, states, “Even though I only took one shift, it was pretty fun all things considered.” Our club thinks that this event really helped strengthen our relationship with other service organizations in the area, as well as allowed us to learn a little bit more about Japanese culture. We have volunteered at the Obon Festival every year and we will definitely return again next summer! Celina Tiqui and Erica Yanagida

RTC is here! What is RTC?
Region Training Conference (RTC) is an annual event where key clubbers in their designated regions come together to attend presentations and meet other people from other divisions. You will learn about key club as a whole, how it operates, what you can do to contribute to your division and club, officer positions, member recognition, etc. It's an extremely fun event to go to and you'll make new connections and walk out understanding much more about Key Club!
When and where will it take place?
RTC will be on Saturday, October 14th, at 11:00am-2:00pm. It will be held at Stephen M. White Middle School, and the address is 22102 Figueroa St, Carson, California 90745.
Additional Information?
There is a google form on the Division 19 South Key Club Facebook Page that those who will be attending RTC need to submit. The form is called "Region 8 PoKEYmon Training Conference". It says to pick presentations but don't worry about that unless you are scheduled to present. The form is due by Saturday, September 3rd, before 6:00pm.
HOP to see you all there!
