Reimagining the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra’s Fall Season

n the absence of concerts and large events due to COVID-19, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) has remained dedicated to sharing the music with Atlanta and beyond on its Virtual Stage. This fall, the Orchestra will be returning to Symphony Hall for the first time since March for a reimagined season that prioritizes the safety and health of the performers and audiences. The fall 2020 concert programs will be performed without a live audience and will be distributed online as subscriber content on the ASO Virtual Stage. The new programs will be shorter in length, composed of smaller orchestral ensembles to meet social distancing requirements, and will feature most of the originally scheduled guest artists, such as Gil Shaham, Louis Lortie, and ASO Principal Bassoon Andrew Brady, plus new additions like ASO Principal Cello Rainer Eudeikis and double-bassist and Talent Development Program alumnus Xavier Foley.
“As musicians, our greatest joy is to share our love of music with our audiences, and we have missed them terribly,” said Robert Spano, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Music Director. “We’ve also missed gathering on stage to make music together. We can’t wait to connect with all of you again this fall, even if it’s done virtually. We look forward to welcoming music lovers not only from Atlanta, but from around the world, to our Virtual Stage this fall.” A new robotic camera system in Atlanta Symphony Hall will provide enhanced audio and video quality for an immersive at-home experience for viewers.
