CONTRACT NEWS WORKING TOWARDS THE NET ZERO WORKPLACE British Land is investing £1.5 billion over 10 years to transform Broadgate into a world-class destination in London. The campus hosts many of the world’s leading financial, legal, technology, and media companies and some of London’s best restaurants, bars, and retail brands. 155 Bishopsgate is one of the largest buildings on the Broadgate campus. Initially completed in 1988, Fletcher Priest Architects has since redesigned it. Today 155 Bishopsgate has 160,000 sq ft of prime office workspace available across five levels of the building. The transformation includes a complete refurbishment and expansion of the double-level receptions with a new lounge. When it came to the lighting, TRILUX worked with M&E consultant and lighting designer, Hoare Lea, for the refurbished office spaces, and, later in the project, alongside contractors Michael J Lonsdale and Chapman BDSP to further develop the design to optimise space and meet the architect’s aesthetics. The final scheme included a custom product, based on the popular LC60 light channel, which later became known as LC80. The light lines were integrated into the ceiling’s acoustic raft to deliver a seamless, flawless effect, meeting all the lighting requirements with a clean aesthetic, and reducing the noise levels in the office. Additionally, the TRILUX comprehensive downlight range Sonnos, which performs all lighting tasks in a uniform design, was utilised throughout the five floors in white to blend into the interior design. SOLAREDGE PUTS RENEWABLE ENERGY ON THE CURRICULUM
PHILIPS LED SOLUTION ILLUMINATES THE SHEFFIELD TRAMLINE Signify has worked closely with Sheffield Stagecoach to upgrade the lighting for all platforms on the Sheffield Supertram, one of the UK’s busiest tramlines. The upgrade is a move from energy-intensive SON-T lamps to the new Philips TrueForce Core LED Road 40W lamps, which promise improved white light quality in customer-facing areas for increased safety and enhanced colour rendering for better visibility. In addition, with this replacement, it is estimated over 800,000kWh energy will be saved each year by using the Trueforce LED lamps, as the lighting installed uses 80% less energy. After several months of extensive research into the right lighting solutions, Sheffield Stagecoach found the Philips TrueForce Core LED Road LED lamp 40W to be the perfect fit that meets all necessary specifications and objectives for upgrading the lighting. This replacement to the new SON lighting dramatically reduces the maintenance costs of lamps and the ageing electromagnetic gear system by reducing the need for frequent replacements and maintenance visits. Philips TrueForce Core LED Road lamps are a tubular glass envelope LED retro-fit similar to that of SON-T lamps. They will fit in the existing luminaires and, importantly, work truly with the luminaire’s optic, making sure that light is photometrically positioned. SolarEdge has announced that its DC-optimised solar solution has been chosen to supply clean, renewable energy for 11 schools in Coventry and South Gloucestershire. Funded by grants from the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme, the rooftop PV systems are forecast to produce combined annual energy savings of more than £194,000 and reduce carbon emissions by 298 tonnes. The installations were completed in separate projects by Ineco Energy, as part of wide-sweeping initiatives by Coventry and South Gloucestershire Councils to improve the energy efficiency of their public buildings. With just a six-week window during the summer holidays to complete all 11 installs, Ineco opted to use SolarEdge’s Three Phase Inverters with Synergy technology at several of the schools. Synergy is a modular system that splits the functionality of traditional large-scale inverters into three smaller, lightweight units, enabling rapid and cost-effective installation. In addition to working with Coventry and South Gloucestershire councils to improve the energy efficiency of their school buildings, Ineco Energy will use the SolarEdge platform to teach the students about the importance of protecting the environment.
